It's a beautiful restaurant don't get me wrong. Unfortunately, the service was a bit subpar. It's also too noisy and densely packed. We were so close to the table next to us that we might as well have just sat with them. It took forever for someone to take our order but finally, Chloe came over and assisted us. The drinking cups were dirty and trying to get anyone's attention to help grill was arduous. The cocktail menu was a disappointment. I got a drink with cotton candy on top and had to send it back. The drink tasted like melted candy. I guess that's my fault, seeing how cotton candy floating on top of a drink is a precursor to what it might taste like. The food was bland and overpriced. Have been to many Korean restaurants in K- town. This restaurant is one of the best. Great Korean staples, and barbecue was well done. In particular, The grill and venting system prevents any smoke from making the air smoky. In other restaurants the vents are far less effective, making the room feel like you're in a forest fire! Portions were healthy, and the final bill was reasonably priced, given NYC. Service was friendly, responsive and quick. Definitely a go to place. read more

The restaurant have modern approach to covid guidelines like they have a walk through thermal scanner at the entrance but I was looking for a hand sanitizer... I know its not the job of the restaurant to provide a hand sanitizer but I was kinda expecting cause even ($) restaurant could provide an alcohol pads lol but anyways as always the food here is always great! One of my new favorite restaurants in ktown hands down. The food is consistently delicious (I've loved almost everything I've tried) and there are 3 floors so great for last min or large parties. Of course you should try some BBQ. The signature meats are great (esp the galbi and ribeye), and the staff does all the grilling work for you. But honestly, I would be happy with just ordering a uni dup bap - their uni is amazingly fresh and generously portioned for the price. Or a bowl of budae jjigae for those cold nights, it's my favorite single-portioned budae jjigae in ktown with spam, hot dog, ramen, rice cakes, and delicious satisfying kimchi broth. I love the kimchi bokkeumbap for some carbs to pair with the meat, served on a hot castiron plate (let it sit for a few min to make the rice extra crispy). For anyone who loves beef tartare, the yuk hwe is super fresh high-quality beef. For anyone who loves egg souffle, theirs is the fluffliest and jiggliest of the land. read more

We also had a tripe stew - so delicious Tofu jigae was also on point - we asked for spicy but was not at all - but did not disappoint regardless of lack of spicy. What was kind of a miss? The bulgogi - looked like boiled pork, didn't have any carmelization or much flavor - prolly should have ordered the kalbi. The panchans were great - especially the kimchi. Would definitely go again. Beautiful clean and modern. The space is labyrinthine- we had to walk up two flights of stairs and down another to get to our dining room. The staff were pleasant, efficient, and accommodating. The banchan were happily replenished. They had a different spin on bulgogi. They used a grill that was convex with a moat around the edge. They put a liquid in, scallions and two raw eggs. As the meat grilled the eggs and scallions cooked in the peripheral well. Once the meat was fully cooked our waitress pushed it into the well. The result was reminiscent of sukiyaki. It was about the best bull go gi that I've ever had. The mung bean pancake with seafood was excellent. The bibimbap was very good. We really liked this place and would happily go back. read more

K-Town is THE destination spot in NYC for Korean BBQ, and I got to dine at Sam Won Artisanal Korean BBQ Restaurant recently. Although Sam Won is the newest Korean BBQ establishment on 32nd, this is not their first location as their history goes back 42 years with its beginnings in Seoul, South Korea. Sam Won is known as one of the oldest Korean BBQ restaurants in South Korea. It has been mentioned they spent over 5 million dollars to bring this luxury Korean BBQ experience to the Manhattan in a space that encompasses 10,000 square feet, 3 levels, and can seat 180 hungry BBQ patrons. If you have never had Korean BBQ, it is best served in larger groups of at least 3 or more. You will first pick your meat, and you will be provided with banchan which are sides that include veggies, pickled items, and white rice. I ordered Samwon Galbi which is the traditional marinated Korean beef short rib and the Pork Belly. This location does require you select 2 orders of meat for their barbecue options, and you should expect to spend at least $70 bucks on this portion of the meal. After eating the Pork Belly and Samwon Galbi, I was stuffed, and therefore I highly recommend ordering any additional foods or sides AFTER you have almost finished your BBQ. The menu at Sam Won includes other traditional items such as stir-fry glass noodles, egg souffle, and kimichi stew and they have incorporated more contemporary dishes such as house poke, kimchi poutine, and kimchi cheese fries. The waitstaff at Sam Won pays close attention to each table, and although you might have several people check in on your table during the BBQ portion of dining, they are all in sync of what is going on with the meal. Sam Won has been opened almost 8 months now and they will surely not disappoint you. I would recommend making reservations but walk-ins are welcomed as well for this dining experience. read more

KBQQ is good. Actually, it's great. But have you ever had it as take out? Me neither. While searching for some Korean food on Seamless, Samwon came up as an option that was pretty well rated. However, most people get the stews. Understandable. Who wants to eat grilled meats that's been sitting in a box for an hour. After all, KBBQ is best eaten there. I ordered the spicy short rib stew. Do not make the mistake that I did! This already comes with rice and a box of banchan! I probably missed it when ordering but I didn't think it came with anything and ordered it just to be safe. The stew itself had several chunks of short ribs that maybe made up one whole beef rib. As with any Korean stew, this had that pleasurable spice factor and good for the soul type taste. Made a Yelp reservation for 2 people on a Friday night at 6:45 p.m. It was slightly earlier than the dinner crowd but seats fill up real quick! I was impressed this place has three floors with semi-translucent blinds separating parties for an intimate feel. I arrived 15 mins early but I was seated right away to wait for my friend. It was our first time there so we ordered the meat combo for 2 (prime rib eye, sliced prime short ribs, and marinated cubed short ribs) to get a sample of the flavors, japchae noodles, egg souffle (regular) and octopus carpaccio. I checked in on Yelp and we got a $9 bottle of soju instead of $19.99 (bless you Yelp). Our server and waitress / grillmaster were quick on their feet and courteous without hovering. The meat selection was goooooood (imagine the word melting like the marbled fat on prime rib eye dripping off). I had apprehensions about the japchae noodles as my experiences have taught me they're heavily salted in restaurants, but I found them delicious and flavorful without being too salty. The egg souffle was sturdy and unlike any other egg souffles I've had - it was a pleasant experience. The octopus carpaccio was a bit oily and could use more acid to bring out the flavors more. Then again, I love sour so others might disagree here. All in all, a solid place for kbbq in Ktown. Sidenote: I'm from Orange County, CA so I'm so used to LA style ayce kbbq where we grill our own meats. I wonder if we can ask to cook our own? Or if it's just a ploy to get people out faster? I love Samson Garden. I have never had a bad meal here. I always start with the mixed veggies on the grill and then move on to pork belly and bulgogi. The service is always wonderful. Loved when it was Samwon garden but since the rebrand I've noticed a slight decline in the quality of food/service :( For one, the menu is definitely more minimum as it's one page and they took out quite a few items. Their banchan is quite lacking and I noticed now they serve less amounts in the banchan than in previous visits. Their food I still find decent but it's definitely not what it used to be. My boyfriend ordered the kkotsal (sliced prime short ribs) and I ordered the Dak Gui (boneless chicken) with the spicy sauce. We both enjoyed our meals with majority of the sides it came with. We order the Soju drink with a pitcher of beer (I hate beer that was all for my boyfriend lol). We left there FULFILLED. It was our first time having Korean BBQ and this place definitely left a good impression! The service was great and our server Lim was friendly and funny, making the experience more enjoyable! This was an... "OK" KBBQ place. But I probably wouldn't come back. So, I'll start with what I thought was good. The atmosphere was good. I enjoyed the flowery scenery going up the stairs to the 3rd floor. Felt bad for the dancing bill, but they did amuse us enough to check into the restaurant. The meats and the sides were delicious. They had a great drink menu. The bad... The wait staff seemed a bit small. I believe our waitress was waiting seven different tables. Feel like that's fine for a basic restaurant, but the waitress was running our grill the whole time. The next bad is I think the waitress was upset when we started doing our own grilling. We're used to it from where we're at. We're also used to getting "endless" meet for a set price. I think for three meats it was around $140ish. I guess that's at price. However I am used to being able to get several different meats (brisket, Bulgogi, chicken, pork, shrimp, etc.) for almost $40 per person. Overall, I still give it a decent rating. It's expensive, but it was still good time. I'd recommend they hire more, maybe bring down price if possible. Buts it NYC! Definitely one of the better Korean BBQ places in NYC. I highly recommend their marinated short ribs, which is by far my favorite thing on the menu (just incredibly juicy and bursting with flavor). Also worth mentioning is their bulgogi, which is very tender. They also have quite a few non-BBQ dishes which are also very nice, especially if you enjoy spicy food. If you're going out with friends and in the mood to splurge a little (my one reservation about this place is it's quite pricey), it's difficult to go wrong with this place. read more

We saw this in yelp with 4 star rating but I forgot to ask the staff as I didn't see the what grade was the restaurant?. For two persons we paid $78 cheaper than kang ho dong but I from my experience Next time I crave korean BBQ I'll visit Kang ho dong. Three of us ordered 2 BBQ dish, 3 entrees (Bibim Bap, Budapest Jjigae, Galbi Tang) Spent $55 per person including tip. Order was placed at 6:58pm (see my attached receipt) , server gave us the check at 7:45 pm when we were still working on the food. At that time, there were 2 empty BBQ tables beside us. We didn't touch the checkbook because we wanted to finish the food, but another server walked up to us, opened the checkbook and laid it right next to my friend's hand. Then the server decided to stand right next to our table, walked around a bit and circled back to our table and just stood there when we clearly were still working on our second BBQ dish. I don't understand why we were rushed when there clearly were empty BBQ tables beside us. So the restaurant wants a party of three to finish 2 BBQ dishes, 3 entrees within 45 minutes? And that includes waiting time for the food to be cooked and served. If we deduct the waiting time, let's say it took you 10 minutes to have all 5 dishes served and cooked, that left us with 35 minutes to eat. You expected three friends at a Sunday dinner time to finish your 5 dishes in 35 minutes, an average of 7 minutes per dish, while there were BBQ tables available for other customers. You can't treat customers like this. I quickly paid the check after seeing this kind of attitude. On our way out, I saw one BBQ table remained empty and there was no one waiting to be seated at the door. This type of service deserves zero star, I give 2 because the food was better than the service. read more

She was wonderfully kind and very helpful. We ordered Soju drinks based on her recommendations as well and were very happy. We probably ordered too much food. But would do exactly the same thing again. We ordered: beef platter for two, egg soufflé and the dumplings. And two bottles of soju. I think either the soufflé or the dumplings would have been fine but both was too much! Such good food though. The small apps they serve always hit the spot in Korean restaurants and this was no different. We got the egg souffle with mushrooms which is a must-have - I really don't know how they even cook eggs so well but it is the creamiest thing ever. For a main, I got the soondubu (hot tofu stew) which I've known to enjoy in the past. This one I would say was just fine - it was $17 and honestly would have liked more vegetables to balance out just tofu, stew, and rice. While the tofu was cooked well & the soup was very flavorful + adequately spicy, it didn't hit home like other soondubus I have had. I came here with a group of 15 people and we had a great time! We were able to sit in one of the private rooms they have. The staff handled the craziness of such a big group really well, it was super impressive. The waiters will cook the meat for you and they made sure that everyone around the table was able to get some every round. Our side of the table ordered a few of the beef sets and the chicken wing appetizer. Everything was freaking amazing. The meat in the beef set was reallyyyyy delicious and the chicken wings were a great starter. They also have a couple meatless options as well, which was nice since a few in our party were "vegan" . We also ordered a lot of soju for the table which everyone enjoyed. I'm not sure if this is really what happened, but at some point the waiters just brought us round after round of soju even though no one was ordering more. We caught on after a few rounds and were able to return the unopened bottles, but we definitely drank more than we initially ordered! Be wary of this as it may be a selling tactic... but again I'm not sure if this was really what they did or if someone on the other side of our huge table was ordering them and none of us noticed. Other than that, we had an awesome experience here. They have a really cool setup with a lot of pretty flowers inside and outside the restaurant, and a dancing bull outside that some of my friends vibed with after soju. I was visiting New York from Chicago and decided to try this Korean restaurant due to the reviews. We came in at night and were seated right away. The restaurant seemed very clean and workers were somewhat welcoming. We were not able to see all of it as we were sat right in the front. There were two of us, we ordered three dishes: beef brisket, marinated Kalbi and kimchi fried rice (not pictured). The presentation of the food was amazing as you can see in the photos. As other Korean bbq restaurants, the servers would come by and cook the meat for you. The two meat dishes were pretty small portion wise, but the kimchi fried rice is what really helped get us full. Although it is a bit pricey here, the taste of everything was phenomenal and I would definitely recommend coming here to try it. Overall, the food was good but the portions were a bit small. If it weren't for the kimchi fried rice that we got, I don't think that it would not have been enough food. read more
