We stopped by before checking out the cute downtown Cedarburg scene and grabbed lunch. It's a very cute vibe with the old anvils and bellows throughout as it used to be a blacksmith. The high vaulted ceilings and exposed beams were great. Our group we seated upstairs and it was pretty quiet. Everyone loved what they had. We all mostly got sandwiches/burgers and the various sides were delicious. We really liked the onion rings, potato salad and seasonal veggies. Our server was patient with us when we didn't know what we'd have with both drinks and meals. The team was quick to get our orders out and whisk away used plates/silverware. Would recommend if you're in the area. It was too cold for the patio to be opened yet but we will definitely come back for that in the summer. Great views. read more

The wife and I stopped by the Anvil Pub & Grille for dinner on Wednesday evening, and I was surprised by how busy they were. We loved the ambiance, and the service we received was excellent. For starters we ordered the cheese bites and the mushroom "soup of the day" For main course, she had the Short Rib Sandwich and I had the Cedarburg Cranberry Salad with blackened Salmon. For desert, the flourless chocolate cake. The Rib Sandwich and soup were good. (3.5 Stars). The Salad/Salmon were okay (3 stars), and the cake was awful. (Probably put in the microwave for two minutes and then brought to the table) It even looked ugly sitting there on the plate. My drink special was weak. All the customers seemed to be having a good time. The place was lively and it's probably worth a visit for the service and ambiance. However this is not a place to go for good/tasty food based on our experience. read more

Everything about this place is amazing, we happen to go on a perfect fall day. Sitting by the river surrounded by the breath taking scenery. We got the fried mozzarella and flat bread to start. I enjoyed the twist, of the mozzarella being wrapped in wonton wrappers. The flatbread was delicious, balsamic glaze, pecans, were a nice touch. The burger with bacon and jam was really good, it's pretty heavy and greasy I didn't finish it but it was tasty also loved the garlic mashed potatoes. Service was great! read more

One of my favorite spots in cedarburg! They have great menu options and a lot of diverse options to pick from. In addition, they have a stone fire oven so all of the bread they use (which is also made in house) is soooo good. I got their special flatbread the last time I went and it was delicious. It also has a great atmosphere as the inside feels like an old medieval pub which I like. The staff is friendly and provided a great experience to me and my friends. Visited Cedarburg on a girls trip and it was her birthday so we booked the outside igloo as a treat. It was so cute was heated and you could hook up your Bluetooth for music. It is right by the river and really nice setting. There was a booking fee but they let you choose who they donate the fee to. Loved that! You get 90 minutes and the food was good and reasonably priced. Did not try the inside restaurant but the igloo was such a fun experience! read more

I would have loved to sit outside on the patio if it weren't for the weather! The food was just okay. I would not recommend getting the anvil bites, they were nothing special. Nostalgia brought me back to my hometown, Cedarburg. I was taken by the effort that the neolocals have put into attracting the seekers of all things eclectic. The ambiance is that of a refurbished horse, cleaned up and not unpleasant; unique? No. The menu has some cleverly named and described offerings (eg: black and tan onion rings for $6.75 and a BLTC sandwich for $13.50) so for $20.25 + tax and tip, I got a BLT and onion rings that were no better than one might expect at any corner pub at half the cost. Well the Anvil chicken was awful. Dry as shoe leather. I could kick myself for not asking for something else, but my friend and I were on our way back to Milwaukee after raspberry picking in the Cedarburg area. A total waste of $21. Let's talk about meals in mini cast iron skillets....Shepard's pie. The atmosphere is cozy and very inviting similar to a European pub. The food was spectacular, the Shepards pie was served in a scorching hot cast iron skillet and was absolutely amazing. It doesn't look big when it's served but it is wayyyyy more than enough for one person. Ingredients were well prepared and the flavors were extremely complex. Appetizer of "ruben boat" was six small baked potato halves that were cold and had a few minced pieces of corned beef, Swiss cheese and sour kraut on top of each potato. Food was tasteless. Chicken and burger were good. I wouldn't recommend the appetizers. The artichoke dip was more like cottage cheese. The steak kebab had no seasoning. I like the space. Except the unsightly open kitchen. And the dust shelf above it (that had visible dust/crud when I was there last year and still does). The decor items on the wall could use cleaning, too. We've been here three or four times using a gift certificate, but I probably won't go back on my own dime, except maybe to sit on the patio by the river for a drink or dessert. The food has been ho-hum on every visit and the service lackluster. On the most recent visit, the waitress acknowledged we'd be sharing our order. The menu notes an additional split charge, so I expected better. The food wasn't divided (that's fine - some places do and dress it up a little - some don't - with a split charge, I expected they would, but oh well) then we had to wait for an extra bowl and spoon to divide the dish. The server didn't check back with us at all during the meal. She came by hurriedly as we were finishing, clearing a plate as she asked whether we were doing ok (the restaurant appeared to be well enough staffed and not too busy, so I'm not sure what that issue was). Our shrimp was overcooked, but well seasoned. This was all pretty typical, in my experience. read more

Had a reservation on a Thursday night. We got there, checked in, and it were told it would still be a little bit. We wait right outside on the bench. 2 groups come up to the front door, look at us, and say "looks like there will be a wait" (no res) but then we see that they get seated right away. We hear the hostess offer outside and bar seating (did not mention this to us). I went back in after 10 min to check and was told "we're cleaning off a table right now." 10 more minutes go by, a couple more groups go in and get seated. I go in and check again, this time told "there's a table paying their bill now." More groups come up, a 7-top and a 5-top, another couple, are told to wait, and then get seated within 1-2 minutes, all while we are still waiting. After 45 minutes total, and as the only people who have been waiting, I go back in and ask if the table is still being cleaned, and the hostess says "I don't know." We decided to leave. I'm thinking if I had just gone in after the first 15 minutes and said "just kidding about the reservation, we'd like to just check in without one" we might have had a better chance. I want to be clear that neither of the hostesses were being rude to our faces, I just think they must have a very bad reservation/seating system. We'll try again another night just as walk-ins and hopefully get to eat this time. read more

We have been here before and would say food was 'okay'. After our last experience I don't plan to go back. We each got a sandwich, I also got a cup of French onion soup. The sandwiches were made on a thick flatbread that had a smoky flavor that made it difficult to taste anything else. My husband had a cheesesteak sandwich and the few pieces of vegetables in it were raw and crunchy. The French onion soup did not come with any croutons, there was grated cheese sprinkled on top but it was not melted. We sat directly across from a half wall for the open kitchen. The staff had misc kitchen items stacked on top, looked sloppy. So disappointed - it is a really cool building in a nice location on the river. read more

Disappointing, 2 of the meals the Philly steak and the chicken club was good, But the steak kobabs was burn most of it, my sister said it was gross the steak was way overcooked, cheese was burnt, my other sister said her burger was burnt and both had said they wanted medium. I lived in cedarburg a couple decades ago before this place had been converted into a restaurant! Also cedarburg has gotten way busier since I moved, we were going to have a 45 minute wait so we left to see if any other restaurant had a shorter wait and they were all that long so we circled back around to Anvil and were seated right away! We were all hungry and started with brussel sprouts. They were crispy and delicious, but I wish I would've maybe asked for something else to dip on the side because the dip was bacon aioli and I'm not a vegetarian. My sister liked it though! For my meal I got a veggie sandwich. The pasta dishes looked delicious too but I wanted something lighter. I love that they make their bread in the oven there, the bread was definitely the best part! Two different chicken sandwiches on Pita (no choice of bread) were dry and tasteless...presentation didn't exist. The onion rings were good.
