My husband and I recently stopped by AP Rooftop for dinner while we were visiting Asbury Park for a few days. It's easy to see why this place is popular, considering the views of the beach are really beautiful. We were greeted warmly as soon as we came out of the elevator, and the service in general was great. They even accommodated us when we asked if we could move to a table with a better view. In terms of food, we shared the shrimp cocktail and fried calamari, both of which were delicious, and I had a special clam pizza with roasted garlic. My husband had the AP burger. The clam pizza was very good. I would've loved a bit more of noticeable roasted garlic flavor, but it was tasty in general and the clams were not chewy. My husband seemed happy with his burger as well as his upgraded truffle Parmesan fries (definitely worth the upcharge). Overall, it was a great experience and we would definitely return. read more

The view was spectacular. The atmosphere was great. I really wanted to love this place. Going up the elevator I felt like we were going to the VIP lounge- It's new so let me say- The drink selection could use some seasonal drinks and a few more beers on tap. The food has the right idea - just off to a slow start. I will come back in a month or two once they get their wings. Overall it was a nice experience for me. There is not a lot of places to eat and drink and look out over the Atlantic Ocean. I would say go check it out and stick to the basics and you will love it. read more

Just went for Mother's Day brunch and what a let down. I've had lunch here before they have decent food and menu so I was excited. However, for the brunch to be $72 each and have mid level options no included beverages and kinda a small buffet this was extremely disappointing. This place is a great addition to the Asbury boardwalk! Take the elevator or stairs up to the 3rd floor, and you're taken to an elegant (but not over done for being by the beach) dining room with seating options outside with beach and boardwalk views. Our waitress Abbey was super friendly and helpful when it came to asking her opinion on what food to get, and was very attentive to my nut allergy. For example, their dance party espresso martini has pistachio in it but I was able to get a regular espresso martini. Both great! Food was also tasty. I recommend the Mediterranean salad with a chicken cutlet. The bread appetizer is pricey but totally worth it. It comes with a sun dried tomato oil that's amazing. I feel bad writing a bad review but I feel like people really need to know. The atmosphere of this restaurant is really nice, but also misleading. After looking at the menu and vibes of this place, I was super hopeful for a great meal. First, I wanted to touch on the service. Our server was sweet, but she was slow and not attentive to details. Came back saying she forgot items, wrong food coming out, and to top it off, she introduced us very uncertain of her ability to do her job well. Now to the food, which lead me extremely disappointed. We split about 3 apps at the table, the oysters were probably the worst oysters I've ever had, and I've had them from everywhere. No flavor, gummy, really disappointing. The bread and dip came out cold and the warm dip tasted like stale cheese. As for my main dish, I was actually afraid to order dinner because the appetizers were so awful and my mother was treating us for my birthday, I did not want to have her spend another overpriced penny there because I knew it was going to disappoint. When I went to order, my friend and I both asked to remove mint and meat from our dishes we wanted. The kitchen could not do that because they "pre mix" their meals. That was the biggest red flag to me that their food was not fresh. I understand not being able to remove meat, but MINT? It's an herb. The first drink I had was great, the second one, the garnishes were soggy and sad. I hate to be this negative and normally can chalk up a bad meal once in awhile but especially for the jacked up prices, this was probably the worst experience/food I've ever had at a restaurant. read more

Have been here before & my first visit was phenomenal. The food, the atmosphere , the service & the drinks were perfect. Decided to try it again for a nice dinner. It was not what I expected based on my previous visit. As you can see in the photo, they're plenty of open tables. Our server Josh, took 10 mins to bring us water and then took another 15 mins to bring our drinks. I got a lychee martini and it was horrible, it tasted like a lemon drop. The waiter dropped off the drink and left and I could not find him or flag him down. 5 mins later our appetizers come out & still did not check in. We ordered the cheese plate which was a disgrace for the amount they charge for a couple pieces of cheese, olives, & crackers. My whole party was disappointed by the presentation and all called it pathetic. While we were picking at the cheese like they're rations, he still didn't come by. I flagged down another waitress who was nice enough to get him over to replace my drink. He came back with my drink and didn't even apologize. Working in the service industry before, this is not good customer service. Slow night, bad service. Needs some new training for a high class restaurant. Would only give 2 stars for the ambiance. I was super excited to try this place out. I lived in Asbury for 10 years and now just down the road. I have bartended at many of the most popular places in town. I ordered a $14 glass of rosè with ice. The server came out with the bottle and advised me there was a typo on the menu and it was actually $15 okaaaay... $1 whatever. He proceeded to pour me the smallest $15 glass of wine. My friend took it to the bartender and was like was this a mistake? The manager then came over and proceeded to explain to me and my friends (all experienced bartenders) how a 6oz glass of wine is properly poured. Okay girl.... Bye. They took the $1 typo off the bill for the inconvenience and I never got the ice. Needless I wont be back and I will be letting everyone I know not to go as well. Do better. read more

Rude!!! The hostess yesterday was not very kind . Yesterday my husband and I decided to spend the holiday in Asbury Park . I love the culture and atmosphere of the beach , the boardwalk, and the beautiful restaurants. I had asked a couple leaving the rooftop if they enjoyed and there reply was " Beautiful. Enjoyed the drinks and the view". So I was excited walking into the gorgeous lobby area . We encountered 2 hostess's, who were gracious and very kind as they directed us to the elevators. Well as we were coming off the elevator, we encountered patrons who raved , they had a great time as well . Welp walking to the hostess stand , I could see the rudeness from a mile away . The hostess was tall with brown hair and a slightly pale complexion. The hostess did not smile , was not welcoming actually was quite unsettling her facial expression. Welp I knew then this may go either way . We asked if we could have a table outside to order drinks . The hostess looked at myself and my husband and clearly stated , " Do you have a reservation ?". We were not aware of the reservation policy as we encountered the two hostess's downstairs in the lobby and either informed us of the reservation especially on July 4, 2024, when patrons and beach goers head to the Jersey Shore . We clearly were trying to have a cocktail or two , and enjoy the beautiful views of Asbury Park . I graciously looked at her replied , " No we do not . We were wondering if we may have drinks outside at one of the tables ". The agitated hostess's reply ", We are taking reservations at this time ." Now I'm sure she profiled my husband and I , due to her facial expression and bad attitude , which she displayed immediately. My husband and I , turned on our heels and left to enter another restaurant where we were treated much better . P.S. I will be writing a Google review as well in regards to the hostess on the rooftop . And also writing to whomever manages the rooftop . The food? Eh. Skirt steak tasted good, but was chewy. Salmon was ok. Typical McCloone's food. We realized there was no veggie with the steak, and no starch with the salmon. Ate here with 2 friends on a Saturday night in December. The ambiance is beautiful! You overlook the ocean, it's beautifully decorated and it was a cozy ambiance with Christmas lights and the fireplace. The food was ok. We had the cheese board and the olives- they were both very good. We also had the chicken Milanese and lobster roll. The lobster roll was good, but the Milanese was ok- chicken was a bit thick. Our waitress was not the friendliest, did not tell us what the specials were or offer to show us the dessert board. We only knew they existed due to seeing/ hearing other tables with a different server getting them. We enter off the boardwalk side and saw a sign saying the rooftop was upstairs. First time here and we had made a reservation and were seated right away. No problems at the host stand which several people had said. The restaurant inside was beautiful. They also have outdoor seating. Ordered the down and dirty martini to start which wasn't completely what i I expected. It had an ingredient (which I should have looked up) that definitely had a little kick. Got the oysters to start which were fine but quite pricey at $34. We ordered the lobster Caldo which was good but hard to eat without a smaller fork to get the rest of the lobster out. They did start it for us but it wasn't easy to get the meat out. They should definitely give an additional utensil to help. There was also a substantial amount of oil under the pasta in the dish. We also got the skirt steak medium rare, which came out medium well and the orzo was extremely salty. When going to the bathroom, the garbages were overflowing, the stalls had open toilet paper wrappers everywhere and there were no paper towels. They definitely need someone to stay on top of the bathrooms better. I think this place has potential but a few kinks need to be ironed out. read more

We had lunch today, we didn't know it was happy hour, apparently attracts a very adult, diverse bar crowd. We were so wowed ! Bartender Michael handled it with poise of an old pro. We really enjoyed our experience and he was a big part of it. We both have bar/restuarant experience for almost 5 decades. Came here in early July, a couple weeks after they opened. Ambiance is lovely. Service was friendly. Food & drinks are fine. It's another McLoone's restaurant on the Asbury Park Boardwalk so expect similar fare to Robinson's Ale House & The Iron Whale, meaning the food is okay. They try to elevate their menu but the quality is usually on par to catered wedding food (since that's what they usually do). I ordered the lobster caldo, which was a bit of a risk, but it was admittedly decent (although "caldo" means broth & this was basically just half a lobster over pasta). Lobster was a bit overcooked, but still tasted good. We also got a couple of dips to start. Again, fine. Seems like something I can whip up at home though (literally-- one was just whipped feta). The "accouterment" they use as dippers included store-bought pita bread & slices of bell pepper with the membranes intact, which was a little underwhelming. But at least the dips were tasty. Cocktails were a mixed bag. Some worked (Melon of Troy-- I liked the melon juice) better than others (Down & Dirty-- could barely taste the giardiniera, which was misspelled on the menu btw). I give the mixologist credit for trying something interesting though. I wouldn't suggest ordering too adventurously here. The table next to us got pizza & it looked & smelled great. I would probably stick to that next time. McLoone's excels in ambiance, since they're so used to hosting weddings. AP Rooftop is no exception. It's a beautiful space & a decent boardwalk offering, but don't expect a world class meal. Side note, I would really love to see better caliber restaurants on the Asbury Park Boardwalk. Instead we just get a load of McLoone's & BarCo Brand restaurants b/c they're in tight with the Madison Marquette people. I heard we could have gotten some STARR restaurants opening up but Madison Marquette didn't want them. Depressing. But again, the views are great here. read more

Went to AP Rooftop on a Thursday afternoon in June. My party of three were the only customers at the bar. The bartender was extremely slow as she seemed completely preoccupied by her 'prep' work. It took an inordinate amount of time for her to return to take our order. I ordered the $25.00 AP Burger medium rare. It arrived 30 minutes later WELL DONE with a stale bun. Of course the bartender was no where to be found. I ate it and will not return. read more
