I just wanted to take a moment to recognize the manager and staff here for the way they handle difficult situations. The manager, in particular, showed an impressive level of patience, professionalism, and composure while dealing with an extremely challenging customer. He remained calm, communicated clearly and respectfully, and never allowed the situation to escalate despite being treated poorly. It takes a lot of patience and emotional intelligence to handle a situation like that while still looking out for your staff and maintaining a professional environment. Great leadership deserves to be recognized, and I hope the company knows they have someone representing their business very well. So this place is just 'okay' food wise. Fantastic location which makes of with the mediocre meals they serve. Waterfront in Asbury Park is magical. We had brunch here last week. Our server, Alexandra, was simply superb so wanted to give credit where credit is due. Any great restaurant should have their very own version of Alexandra. I hope management gives her a shout out during one of the staff meetings. I guess you can overlook marginal food when the service and view are simply fabulous. read more

We dined here on a Saturday afternoon. The calamari appetizer was a fresh, crunchy start to our meal. We thoroughly enjoyed our cocktails from their speciality drink menu. Even though it was busy, service was prompt and the food & drinks came out extremely fast! For our entrees, we had the Greek salad with chicken, and the birria Cuban sandwich - both were delicious. We dined indoors, but there's also a large outdoor seating area with umbrellas right on the Asbury Park boardwalk - the ambience is perfect for a seaside meal. read more

The Robinson ale house is located right on the water in Asbury Park and is a great place to go for breakfast lunch or dinner when enjoying a day on the boardwalk. Stacked with a full bar, the margaritas and bloody Mary's here are great. Same goes for the bar food snacks and sandwiches (favorites including the crab cake sandwich and hot honey dipped fried chicken). I've never left disappointed. read more

Besides the good service and nice ambiance by the beach, there's not much else that's good here. The clam chowder was quite good but the lobster roll lacked meat and was off balance relative to the bread. Talk about prime location! Right on the boardwalk, solid food and good service. We decided to dine at The Robinson Ale House since it was so conveniently located across from the Convention Hall and at the heart of the boardwalk. After a few hours of beach time, we got to the restaurant at about 1PM and it was very busy by then, but there were still tables available outside. We decided to dine outdoors since it was such a beautiful day and it gave us an opportunity to just take in the beach breeze. Also, if you're a people watcher, it's the PERFECT spot for you. Some tables outdoors were not shaded though, but we were fortunate enough to grab one that was mostly shaded. We were very familiar with the menu since we went to a location of theirs in Long Branch, so we knew the menu was going to be pub-like. We got the kids the Kids Chicken Tenders and Kids Grilled Cheese. My better half ordered the Steak + Burrata Salad and I went with the Chi-Town burger. Our food came out fairly quickly. First, the kids. Unfortunately, the Kids Chicken Tenders was a bit disappointing and not what we remembered it to be when we went to the one in Long Branch. The tenders were more patty-like and didn't have much crunch or flavor. The Kids Grilled Cheese was very good though, according to my wife. I had a bite of it and thought it was just OK and fairly what is expected of a regular grilled cheese. As for the Steak + Burrata, my wife enjoyed the salad overall, but she felt that the steak needed more seasoning, which was disappointing. I thoroughly enjoyed my Chi-Town burger. Everything about it was perfect. It was cooked medium exactly the way I like it and those chips that come with it are always addictive. There are a few other restaurants on the boardwalk here, but none better situated than this one. It's hard to miss and has a perfect spot for people watching, if that's what you're into. The food here wasn't bad, but wasn't the greatest either, however, if you're just seeking a relatively quick meal that won't empty your pockets, Robinson would do. read more

Where do I start? Our server accidentally spilled water all over our table and onto one of our phones. While accidents happen, the rest of the experience was just as disappointing. We waited over an hour for our food, and my salad was completely forgotten. I didn't receive it until about 20 minutes after everyone else at the table had already been served. The food itself was average at best. I don't blame our server, who was clearly overwhelmed and trying his best while also handling a party of 20. The management team needs to reevaluate how they run the place, it's clear the restaurant was poorly managed. read more

The service here is great; very kind and welcoming to all guests. The food here is phenomenal with a vast selection of delicious foods. I personally page their fries for the crisp. A little mistake was made with our order and they went above and beyond to rectify the situation. Our server Amina was on point. It felt like she was our friend who should have been dining with us, but she let us know what's good and did not one disappoint. Jack, who I think was the manager, was so apologetic, but shit happens. He was so kind trying to make up for a mistake that was not even that serious. Now let's get to the food and drinks. More like 2.5 stars. I mean, it wasn't a Russian gulag, but the food was disappointingly mediocre, and the service is sporadic. I splurged on the halibut ($44.95) but it was overcooked and hard, nary any moisture to be found. The champagne cream sauce helped get it down but I should have asked for more since it was so tough (I should have sent it back but we were in a rush). The fish was supposed to be pistachio-encusted, but it was just dusted with some pistachio sprinkles. A Caesar salad appetizer came as my friend was finishing his steak. The waitress apologized and said two college kids who were new were running the kitchen that night (what). The baked goat cheese app was OK and the oysters from the raw bar were pretty good. POSITIVES: Ocean view from our table. Great location if you're seeing a show at WonderBar across the street. My cocktail, the On Island Time, was a fancy rum punch, very yum. TAKEAWAY: I wouldn't go here again and if I did, I'd just get regular bar food like some wings or a burger or salad, not worth the money for the "nicer" food, which is a big miss and at most aspirational. read more

We were visiting with family (I grew up here but moved away) and we actually came to Asbury to eat at the Iron Whale. The hostess and manager refused to push tables together for 9 people out back (it's "their policy") and said we could only sit inside. I could eat inside and look at walls in Ohio. We came to see the ocean... why eat here? Extremely rude and unprofessional with a touch of abrasion and aggression. So we walked down the boardwalk a bit and ended up here. What a great twist of fate. Everyone here has a totally different attitude. They want to please customers. They are friendly, professional and accommodating. They were busy but had an open table, and sat us right away! We did have a few slight issues with our order but all was handled swiftly, efficiently and effectively. They even credited us for one meal and gave us a drink on the house. THiS is the way!! The way to gain more repeat customers because we know you're applying good business practice, and trying to excel and make people happy. The food was very good! I got the strip steak- so juicy and delicious. Mashed potatoes and asparagus were perfection as well. Lots of gluten free options! They've won me over! Everyone was happy with their food. My family and I had a nice visit here and made a great memory, with photos of the convention center in the back, where Tony Soprano lost his mind haha. I'm not local so I won't be back for another 3-5 years but hopefully this place will still be around when I do come back. All of our favorite places seem to disappear around here. Been coming for years and am only seeing NOW that I've never made a review! Part of me wants to dig up old photos of delicious meals I've had here. In any case, today, I had aa banging grilled cheese. Granted, it could've used MORE cheese but the flavor was soooo good dipped in the tomato bisque. I've had the short rub grilled cheese but the mushrooms in this one was fantastic. I've never had a bad meal here. What brings them down for me is the service. And typically, I sit at the bar because it's faster but they're just always so hectic. It's like you have ONE window to ask for anything you want.
