If you are looking for a special meal in stunning Park City/Deer Valley, look anywhere else other than Apex at the Montage. The wagyu steak was an abomination to say the absolute least. The wine and the chicken were the only good part about the meal, and it is hard to mess up a chicken. The management comped the THREE wagyu steaks that they overcooked which were worse than Costco steaks. We soon realized that the Apex is passed off as the elegant restaurant at the Montage, but it shares the same kitchen as the sports bar next door. Clearly, the chefs are not able to cook a decent meal- much less a meal to compete with the rest of the wonderful dining establishments on this mountain. I am never one to leave a bad review nor send food back to the kitchen. The service was horrible and they almost seemed as if they were accustomed to having people say that it was not up to par. Absolutely first class--had breakfast there. Despite few people in the dining room (a time one often gets really poor service), our waiter was attentive and responsive without being obtrusive. I was hesitant to order huevos rancheros--I'm from CA--this is UT--but the dish was delicious! I would definitely go back; pricey but worth it! read more

Used to be great, but went downhill this year with a new chef and management that seems ok simply shuffling hotel guests with no return business. After many great meals over the years, it is disappointing that the food quality and presentation is no longer up to par with the price and expectations for the primary restaurant at a 5 star hotel. My advice, take the shuttle to Park City Main street and visit one of its many excellent restaurants. read more

MAJOR F.....I am a Park City local and enjoy trying the various cuisine choices our town has to offer. I am very careful when giving a negative review especially given it's potential negative impact on our local economy. That said Apex at the Montage was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. The tomato soup and chili we ordered for lunch was "ice cold" and had to be sent back. The service was VERY slow. A steak sandwich took an hour and was of low quality. Please save yourself the frustration and money and go somewhere else! read more

Excellent dining option in the Montage hotel! I was wary of this restaurant as I always am with expensive hotel restaurants. We dined here for dinner and breakfast while staying at the hotel. The service here was impeccable both times from the hostess to the server. Dinner - the filet was perfectly cooked. The halibut had a really great crust and was perfectly cooked. The comp bread is soooo good. I could have eaten loaves of it. No room for dessert. Breakfast - the truffled eggs Benedict were sooo good. It was a filling dish though. I thought the smoked trout Benedict was a little too fishy but my BF liked it. this restaurant is a little pricy so more of a splurge but if you're staying at this hotel I would highly recommend stopping by for a meal! read more

Stayed at the Montage for spring break. Had breakfast here everyday. Simple but delicious breakfast buffet offers breads and delicious pastries, hot foods: eggs, bacon, sausage both pork and chicken or turkey, amazing omelet bar as well as cereals, fresh fruits etc. Also dined in for dinner and was AMAZING. Staff was so friendly and food so incredibly delicious. Food is both homey and gourmet and to finish off we ordered dessert along with a trio of housemate ice creams that were to die for. Definitely recommending to anyone set to visit Park City. read more

Disappointing! The Waygu tomahawk was amazing, but not the Caesar salad or Maine lobster risotto! The Caesar salad was over drenched in dressing which caused the lettuce to be soggy. The risotto was extremely salty and soupy. Will not be back considering the prices and mediocre food.. read more

Has a chill lunch here with my bff on a day off from skiing. Was quoted an hour wait (not guests of the $1k night hotel) but after 15 mins Kara sat us at a choice 4-top by the window with a view of the skiers. So far, great. My bison burger was terrific, cooked to perfection and served on toasted marble rye with caramelized onions and aged Swiss cheese. So far, a 5 star lunch. Rob had a nice looking salad, but the added chicken was shockingly over-cooked and inedible. Salad was fine otherwise. When she finally came back to check on us, I asked our server to take the chicken off the bill (she did, but didn't comp the salad - which is fair but unusual for such a high end place). Then it took way too long to pay the check. I think 3 stars is about right for this visit, but I think they are capable of 5 stars if everything is firing properly. I'll certainly return for the atmosphere and Bison burger! read more

Great service. Ambiance okay. Gnocchi app great. Wine list decent. Overall food is basic and nothing amazing just solid alternative to going into town. The restaurant is beautiful. Contemporary Medieval architecture, high ceilings, etc. Food is great. I had lamb and it was one of the most tender lambs I've eaten in my life. They are having a summer special where they offer a 3 course meal (choice of exquisitely executed salads, choice of main entree, and dessert) for a fixed price of $30.00, which is a real bargain for a restaurant of this caliber. I gave it 4 and not 5 stars because although everything else is just beautifully done, the restaurant is a bit lacking in service. The waiters take a long time to approach the table initially, take a long time before they come again to take the order, and take a long time before they bring out the starting bread. We have dined twice here and both times we ordered champagne. Both times, the waiters would walk by the table, look at the table, and not refill the champagne glasses. read more

Once outside, the chair seat on position 16 (so Apex knows where I'm talking about) was filthy with food stains, napkin for one of us only, no wine list provided until requested, table cloth was filthy! They want $26 for a glass of an overly oaked Rombauer Chardonany that is sold for $30 a bottle at Total Wine! Welcome to Montage over pricing! Total disappointment. Food was excellent. Service was excellent. Two comments: 1) The hostess that took the reservation told me to come onto the hotel property and park on the second level. There is no self parking here - valet only. The restaurant needs to do a better job of training its personnel. 2) This restaurant is literally in a banquet room. The ambience is very underwhelming. Yes, you have a view of the mountain and the Empire Express lift, which is very beautiful, but the dining room itself is as welcoming as a convention of accountants. read more

My girlfriend's and I had a wonderful dinner this summer at Apex! The food was outstanding along with the service. Chris our server took great care of us, we like to enjoy our meal so he made sure to pace the food just right so we were really able to savor each bite. The Som Stephen made our meal that much better by suggesting some of the best wine I have had in awhile. We gave him a price limit and he paired a perfect wine to enjoy with our entree's. After trying 25+ restaurants in the Park City area over the past six months, I decided it was time to write some reviews. We discovered Apex as part of last month's Dine About event. In comparison to similar restaurants, Apex is merely adequate. The decor was pleasant, but not remarkable. The food was pretty evenly mixed between 'good' and 'excellent.' I'm pretty sure the chef is allergic to salt, because there sure wasn't any in the food. I'm not opposed to Apex, but it didn't give me a real reason to return. There are better options for either a foodie experience or a ski-lodge type of place. On a positive note, the service was impeccable. read more

As many frequent travelers, I often consider dining in a hotel to be "admitting defeat", but we sought our the Montage and Apex on a good recommendation and found the awesome surroundings enhanced the excellent dining experience, or vice versa. Kudos to the wine steward for a selection that won't break the bank, unless you want it to. And to the chef and kitchen staff that pleased our entire party. Decent place, it has so much potential. It took forever to get a drink, 1 round per hour. Big salads and small entrees. The biscuit muffins were killer good. I love wine and they have a great selection but you could tell they were really trying to push it. read more

Having spent a week enjoying the liveliness of the film festival my friends and I wanted to end our trip on a culinary high note. Now we didn't stay at the Montage but had heard from a few people we met at the festival that the restaurant was worth the trip. It definitely delivered in every way. From approaching the hostess for seating through finishing dessert (get the s'mores!) the service, ambiance, food and technique was just as we had hoped it would be, exceptional. Anytime I spend a legitimate amount of money on dinner I expect the experience of the evening to match the quality of the food/service. The service was engaging, something that surprised me a bit, the food was absolutely delicious and the lodge-y feel was exactly what you want in a setting like Park City. Bottom line, we were definitely disappointed to have discovered the restaurant our final night in town...although what a way to culminate the trip! It's on the list for next time. read more

In my multiple meals (3), I was able to try a number of new tastes/textures that I had never encountered before. The property is beautiful, the service was atrocious. My family has a place near Empire Pass and were so excited to check this place out. We went about a year ago and the service was awful, while the food wad decent. We decided to give it another chance thinking they had made adjustments, but astonishingly it was worse. The waiters walked around in clumps, and most just stood there looking into the distance while waters, and other drinks were empty. We had to track down our waiter 2 or 3 times for refills. On top of that, two of the waiters were pointing and whispering after we complained about the service. The food again was just average. DO NOT waste your money on this place. Lastly, It had rained the night before and they didn't bother to let us know that the cushions were wet on the patio until it was too late. All of our butts were soaked when we got up. The waiter proceeded to smile and say oh yeah it rained last night and they didn't have time to fully dry. Great. read more

They're on their way up! My wife and I have been to Montage Deer Valley multiple times since its opening a few years ago for the luxioruous appeal of a resort at the top of Deer Valley. We live in Park City and have been to most every restaurant once or twice over the years. We have dined in Apex numerous times and the food has always been consistent and exquisite. The only thing lacking seemed to be a support staff to really enhance the overall experience of the meal. In the past, structure, timing and overall attentivness seemed to not be on par with the quality of the food coming to our table, UNTIL NOW! We were greated as always by warm smiles a kind "good evening" and escorted to our table where the hostess pulled out my wifes chair as one other gentleman rushed over to pull mine out for me. This wasn't a special occassion by any means but by the end of the meal I felt and I think my wife would concure that we were on our honeymoon. Our server, Christopher was phenomenal. We had not had him in the past but his presence at the table was reassuring and put us at ease. We really settled into our seats as he briefly descriped some of the signature and most popular items on the menu. The food once again did not disappoint as I started with and Endive Salad that was nicely balanced and not too bitter. My wife loved her Tuna Tartar. We felt taken care of as a gentleman in a suit came by and asked if our first course was everything we expected. I believe we had four or five different people at our table throughout the evening but it never felt overbearing. Choreographed more like it! I had a lovely piece of Halibut with BBQ'd pulled pork on the side. An odd combination I thought at first but upon combining the fish and meat with the rest of the dish I was truly impressed. My wife had the Filet which might have been in the top 3 either of us have ever had. It was beyond succulent and literally "melted". I could have gotten by not chewing at all! I'd say Apex is finally on the right path to meet the rest of the hotel and its service. Thank you for a wonderful evening, we most certainly will be back soon. read more

Had lunch at the Apex today and once again I was not disappointed. Fantastic service and incredible food. We started with the prosciutto flatbread (which I will order as my meal the next time) and I then had the prime rib sandwich. Both wonderful, as we're my husband's and kid's meals. Everyone on staff dotted on us throughout our meal. We love this place and will definitely be back. read more

OMG. Could the service be any slower?? We should've been tipped off by the absence of any valets outside the hotel. We had to walk in to the front desk and ended up giving our keys to an apologetic staff member who said she would take care of it. I'm currently sitting at our table and it's been 70 minutes (and counting) and our entrees haven't arrived. We didn't order starters or even salads. It took about 15 minutes to get menus after we were seated, and we finally ordered after 25 minutes. After 40 minutes a busser brought us some bread - thank God!!! The table next to us, who arrived after us, already put in a lengthy and passionate complaint to the manager. They still haven't eaten either. It's unbelievable the lack of common sense with management. People come to a restaurant to eat. Feed us!! Considering the price of the food and the absolutely terrible service, no matter how good the food is (and I LOVE food), we will not come back here. You've been warned. read more

Order the aged wagyu. To die for. Only reason i give it 4 stars is they measure their drink portions to the T...like with scientific equipment to make sure you get literally only one shot. Ordered a gin martini and the glass came half full. When i asked why, they said, that's how they do it in Utah. Weird. APEX is a beautiful restaurant with excellent food and service. The views and proximity to Deer Valley's Empire ski area are remarkable. The food is fresh and the menu is quite varied. The wine list is incredible -- for Utah, particularly if you enjoy French Whites. I highly recommend APEX for your next lunch or dinner. You will not be disappointed. I had a great experience at Apex! The scallop appetizer has wonderful flavor and texture. I also enjoyed the white gazpacho which I found to be very refreshing. I was rather impressed by the extensive wine list, and I received attentive service from both the bar and wait staff. A manager also took the time to check up on me during my visit even though I was dining alone. Can't wait to come back the next time I am in Park City! read more

Resort has been open less than 3 weeks and the restaurant is still working out the kinks (still trying to get to know their own credit card and billing systems, for example), but we had a great meal here. Service is excellent. Really enjoyed the popovers and duck tortellini appetizer. The trout, sea bass and steak entrees were superb. Churro smores dessert was clever and good, and apple streudel was delicious. Foie gras and chocolate suffle were just ok. Sommelier was pleasant but not as knowledgeable as we've experienced elsewhere. Elegant atmosphere but kid-friendly. The kids enjoyed specialty sodas. Downstairs from the restaurant is a fabulous game room complete with shuffleboard table, wii stations, darts, video games and bowling alley. read more

After numerous visits during the ski days, I tried Apex for a dinner one evening. It was Sundance Film Festival, and I thought the chances of me getting a dinner reservation were slim. The host, was able to accomodate not only my preliminary reservation for 2, but was able to switch it to 4 and back to 2 as plans changed. Very accomodating. The food was spectacular with every course and the alpine setting was just as striking after dark as it is during the day. I was greeted at the restaurant and along the whole way by name, adding a personalized touch. No attention to detail was missed and the service was over the top. I would plan to make this a "must do" for dinner, even if you are not staying at the Montage Hotel. Thanks for a great dining experience!! read more

Back in early March, before Covid started creeping in en mass, my friend and I meandered into the front desk of this establishment for lunch - we had just ski'd up an appetite. We sensed that it was more formal, but we also noticed there were other patrons there, dressed in ski garb, so we thought we were OK. We asked for a table - they asked for a first name, no problem. Then they asked for a last name...which gave me pause. I said no thanks, I don't give that out for this situation. They said they need it in order to text me...which still didn't make sense...so I still said sorry. Then she asked for my phone number, which I gladly gave. She said she'll text me when our table is ready. Then...she said it would be a 30 minute wait. My friend & I said "Why so long??? There are far more empty chairs & table than there are other diners!?" She then gave me the-incredibly-typical-restaurant-b/s-rebuttal, "We have many other reservations". It would've been easier if they put up a sign saying "No middle age skiers allowed!" read more
