Visited Apna Chulha to try out the lunch buffet and it was a good experience. The restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived, but by the time we left, it was busier and had a number of occupied tables. The restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating and a separate bar area. The lunch buffet is $19.99 before tax & tip and seemed to be a pretty fair price. Now for the lunch buffet, there was a good variety of both meat and veggie curries along with basmati rice and a few appetizers (pakoras, etc). I enjoyed the tandoori chicken, butter chicken, dal and a veggie curry with spiced potatoes and peas. The dal had a nice flavor and a little kick and was a bit spicy, but paired well with the rice. The staff also brought over fresh naan, which was pretty good. The pakoras weren't too good, a little too salty, but the chutney helped. Customer service was friendly and attentive, with staff checking in occasionally on if we needed anything or wanted a refill of naan. I will say I assumed the chai was included with the buffet, and totally missed the signage that it was an extra cost. So, it was a slight surprise when we got the check. Otherwise, it was a pleasant dining experience and I was glad to find a Indian restaurant with a lunch buffet available on a Sunday, as most places only offer a lunch buffet during the workweek (Monday to Friday). Recommend trying out Apna Chulha if you're in the area.

Tikka masala, chicken coconut curry, and naan

3.5 rounding up because they are so nice. I came for the buffet 11 to 2 pm, $19.99. There was good variety, not spicy at all. I will stick with chicken marsala, spinach, boiled egg, rice, egg roll, and naan (cooked to order). I like the coconut rice dessert. The tandoori chicken was a tiny salty but tender. There's salad. Im estimating about 8 different dishes to eat. Lentils and garbonzo beans. No free drink. It's worth the variety.

Such a great price for an AYCE lunch buffet for only $19.99! The restaurant itself wasn't that busy when we went for a weekend lunch, but the food was so great I really hope they get more customers in the future! The tables are big and the space is very clean. The server was super friendly and checked back with us regularly. I absolutely loved their fish dish and chicken curries. The curry was very buttery and the fish was a bit crispy. I also enjoyed the chai which the sweetness went well with the savory entrees. It would be nicer if they put labels for each dish. A lot of them had me guessing but you really can't go wrong - they're all delicious! The servers will patiently explain to you what each dish is if you ask though. However, I think labels would be especially important for those with dietary restrictions. Overall, I would love to be back again since this place is so worth it!

Bright and airy inside.

This giant restaurant used to be a Tex Mex type of place, but with some minor adjustments it's now Indian. It's pretty bright and airy inside with high ceilings. I stopped by to ask about the buffet price and the manager(?) gave a warm welcome and encouraged us to stay. The place was mostly empty (unfortunately for him), but $25 for a buffet lunch? In this economy? Sure! There was a good variety of the Indian buffet classics and freshly-baked naan served at the table. Overall the food was fresh and pretty good, but not that punchy. I think they can up their spice level significantly and not scare anyone away. But overall, a decent and affordable lunch option among vanishing Indian buffet offerings in SF.

Buffet plate #1!!! Goat, butter chicken, paneer, daal, rice

$19.99 for lunch buffet on Sunday!! Goat curry, butter chicken, shredded chicken curry, fish/veg pakora, saag paneer, lentils/daal, rice/carrot pudding, and chai! Naan and rice too of course! I wish the dishes were labeled (though I guessed somewhat correctly lol), but the owner came around and let us know we could ask any questions if we had any. He was so kind and helped take a polaroid pic of us and kept offering us naan. The place was well-lit (ceiling window things), and they provided hand sanitizer too. Awesome experience and budget-friendly!!! Situated near a bunch fun cafes and trinket shops and vintage secondhand stores too. Recipe for a really nice afternoon.

Tried their buffet . The place is huge . All you can eat for 19.99 $ is a deal !! The lady working there was nice . Try it !!

My sister wanted to try this place after reading some good reviews and the food was solid. I will say that the service was really slow (maybe because the place is newer or it's understaffed?), so we had to constantly flag down a waiter to help us. Some of the items were also forgotten about, but they all eventually made it to our table after a few reminders. My favorite was the Punjabi fried rice since it was super fragrant and it went well with both the curries. The fish pakora was hot and fresh, but I was expecting it to be more crispy. We also tried the goat cheese naan since we hadn't had one before, but it really didn't taste like goat cheese and the flavor was very subtle in general. The restaurant did give us some complimentary desserts of gulab jamun and kheer, which was a nice way to end the night. I heard there's a lunch buffet on the weekends, so I'll be back in the future to try that!

First time coming here and I asked if they had something similar to shahi paneer (favorite dish) since it wasn't on the menu and one of the cooks said that they didn't mint making it for me! I can't eat foods that are too spicy so they were also able to make it even less spicy than mild which was so sweet of them ;) Will come again soon but if you haven't already, COME RIGHT NOW!! :):):)

OMG! Just amazing authentic Indian/Punjabi food. Team is so friendly and inviting. Chef's know their Indian dishes well, than making cocktail of spices and serving for name sake. Every dish came out well made and served. We tried butter chicken, garlic and butter naan, pakora, kheer, chicken kabab- yum! Must try place!!!!!!

The themeing is so on point inside! Some of their drinks are interactive which adds on to the themes. My friend thought the wands were available for show and borrow and got charged $20 for the wand xD I gotta say the night we went, bartender was pretty slow... it almost felt like he forgot our order bc it would take a while and when finished making drinks it was actually another groups order. The bartender wasn't super busy either. The drinks were hit or miss, espresso martini they had on the menu is probably premade bc I asked to change the liquor and he said I wouldn't be getting the one that's on the menu. Tried the one on the menu and lowkey hated it, tastes watered down and bitter. Although I tried my friends "butterbeer" cocktail and omfg if you have to order something get that. It was so good. Drink costs were about $16-$18. For me, it was nice to try and a fun experience! But probably one and done ToT

There's also some outside patio seating in the front. - My wife and I split a flight of beer, which they provide in three 6 ounce pours. We especially liked their Hazy IPA, but the Oktoberfest was very good too. The bartender said their Kolsch is a bit of a classic, and we liked it too, but it wasn't a stand out to us. I later got a 10 ounce pour of their IPA and felt like that was the best of all. The best part is that you couldn't go wrong with any of the beers. - We got chips and guacamole from the taco truck guy located inside next to the bar...You pay by cash, and we got a big container of chips and a humongous couple of scoops of guac for $9. It was just what we needed to go with our beers! Bottom line: if we lived in the area, we'd go back to Standard Deviant for sure!

From the outside, The Beer Hall almost blended into its surroundings - I almost walked right by if it hadn't been for the neon "The Beer Hall" sign. The taproom is quite spacious and could accommodate several large groups; however, the night of our visit was relatively quiet, perhaps due to the cold weather. Since there weren't any large tables, our group spread out over three smaller tables. As people came and went throughout the evening, it was convenient that we could each order our own beer and food at the bar. I selected an IPA from Fieldwork, a local favorite, and the beer stayed cold and refreshing throughout the evening. The food menu was limited, but I was craving something warm and salty to pair with my beer. For nearly $10, the fries weren't cheap, but the plate was piled high with some of the best fries I've had in a while. They were served piping-hot alongside two dipping sauces - aioli and ketchup. My friends sitting around me couldn't resist them either, and the mountain of fries disappeared in record time. The servers at the bar were very friendly and checked in on our group often. We spent a few hours enjoying our conversation and beer, overall having a fun, laid-back evening.
