I decided to try this spot for takeout last week. I had already had them once a few years back. The food is good, and decently priced. My favorite is the chicken tikka masala, although they forgot it (Grubhub delivery), but I called and they were really apologetic and sent me two servings priority delivery to make things better!! It pains me to give any place only 1 star (which is rare for me), but this was by far the worst food I've eaten in the last year. I was originally very intrigued by the chicken tikka pizza because I have a favorite Indian pizza spot in the East Bay (Oakland) and was hoping to find a similar spot closer to me in SF. However, the chicken tikka pizza here was such a disappointment and super bland! First of all, the chicken was inedible. It had a chalky texture and was way too overcooked or rotten that I couldn't eat it and ended up picking out all the chicken pieces. Also...where is the flavor? Where is the spice?? I hate wasting food, but we had no choice but to throw out the rest of this pizza because we really couldn't stomach it at all, especially the chicken that was nauseating. I don't remember the last time I had to throw out food like this. I also added the daal tadka to my order because of a BOGO free deal on UberEats. This was so disappointing too! This was so watered down that it was more like flavorless soup. My partner compared it to a worse version of a Trader Joe's soup (which is an insult to TJ's). I came here on a Monday night while waiting for an Indian pizza at a restaurant half a block away. I noticed the vibe here was a little bit more upbeat than the other Indian place. I went in, walked up to the counter and looked around while I waited. I mainly looked at their snack offerings near the register and watched the NFL game on there TV. I wasn't quite ready to order, but a man approached the cashier to take my order. I believe I had the menu in my hand already and ordered some naan and a side of rice. I felt like the man was rushing me a little bit. I asked how long it would be and he said 10-15 mins. I replied, just for a side of rice and one naan. He said yes. The restaurant has 3 small tables with two ppl each sitting at it. He then asked me if it would be for here or to go. I said for here. I paid for my stuff and told, him that I would return cause I was waiting for food elsewhere. I came back 10-15 later with a mango laser from the another place and waited another 5 minutes. The man then came to me with a bag filled with my order. Upon reaching me at the far end of the restaurant, he tied the plastic bag really tight before handing it to me. I kind felt like he was trying to get me to leave, he also stared at me in a aggressive/threatening manor. I then opened my tightly tied bag and started eating. I then looked at the kitchen staff of 5-6 men and they were all staring at me. One even appeared to be staring at me angrily and appeared to begin to walk over to me before the cashier stopped him and said something to him. It made me feel unwanted. I don't know why. My newest favorite Indian place. After losing our all time favorite due to closure, we have been trying multiple different Indian restaurants. This place is tasty with a generous biryani portion size, larger than any of the other places we've been to, deserving of a good review! Ok here's the deal the rating is for the fact that it's a late night joint that actually tastes like someone cooked your meal! We were hungry after watching a show in the neighborhood and found this restaurant online. The food was delicious and service was excellent. Wanted to order appetizers but on checking found out they use same oil for frying veg/non veg. Then just ordered main dishes. From daal , kadahi panir , veg korma ( suggested by the owner) to chappatti everything was piping hot and well made. Its a decent location but good luck with parking as expected in the city . Was really excited for "Indian pizza" as I've had good experiences with places in the South Bay and had seen Tadka's menu while walking around the Mission a few weeks ago. Sad to report that the pizza is not great - I got the Tandoori Chicken pizza and there isn't a lot of flavor other than a slightly off cheese taste. Veg was crunchy and the sauces that came with helped, but overall pretty bland with a soggy crust (which could be due to delivery). My partner got medium chicken tikka masala (comes with rice which is nice!) and garlic naan...and said there was also no flavor! I love that this dish was super flavorful with chunks of chicken in it. The chicken is tender and break apart easily. We also ordered two types of naan: garlic naan and Peshawari Naan. I would love to highlight how great the food is here. Just that my stomach couldn't handle any of it the night I went. Got pretty sick, not thinking of coming anytime soon. Prayers to Momma India in the moment of Now with the intense Pandemic situation there. Tadka Indian Restaurant is clean. The staff is friendly. The cuisine is authentic, flavorful, healthy, and tasty. Our server said she is from the Punjab region in the north where I have been. Tadka means a mixture of spices. Since it was just the three of us we decided would be best to order family style to get a good mixture sampling of the menu. We ordered: one aloo palak aka potato spinach dish one chana masala aka chickpea curry dish two samosa for four pieces total since they come in a 2Pac quantity two roti aka whole wheat bread, baked in a clay oven one mixed vegetable aka fresh potato, peas, cauliflower, sweet corn, and carrots all mixed in a blend of spice one basmati rice one Heineken for my friend since I got the straight edge sXe We all enjoyed the meal and our time here. We look forward to future meals here. The SF Giants vs San Diego Padres game was on the television. I don't follow baseball too much as basketball is my jam yet interesting to have the game on as we enjoyed our meal, company, and conversation. Go Giants! TLDR: Flavorful North Indian food made with love I love Indian food, but the fare in the Bay Area often disappoints more than delights. I didn't have a go-to place in San Francisco. All the best food is in South Bay in restaurants and food trucks. So imagine my surprise when a new 'North Indian' restaurant pops up in the Mission. Instead of ordering on an app, I decided to ride my bike to the restaurant and find out what they recommend. I was greeted warmly by Dhillon, owner who hails from Punjab, and is passionate about his food. The staff communicate in Punjabi and you know this is legit, and a family affair. I ask Dhillon for his vegetarian recommendation. He immediately hones in on his favorite, Kadai Paneer. I order the spicy version. Next I am torn between the dal tadka and chana masala, Dhillon recommends dal tadka. Spicy please. Garlic naan is a classic. But I am feeling greedy. I love a good veggie biryani to soak up the beautiful cries and daal. But I don't want a full order, so Dhillon offers me a half order, and throws it in! I also noticed they have a pizza oven. And whats better than an Indian pizza, an Indian pizza with paneer. So I order the spicy paneer pizza. I ride my bike and food is ready as promised in 15 minutes (pizza takes longer to bake, or it can be ready faster). Since I have a bike panier that is small, Dhillon spends 5 minutes repackaging the pizza to survive a vertical journey. Now the food. Holy &&&&. Flavor bomb. The paneer kadai is a huge hit. Paneer is fresh and soft, and my partner who wanted a bite, wants more. I reheated the garlic naan, and it's perfect. I add some lemon to open up the daal that is perfectly spiced, with garlic, ginger and the right amount of heat. So much flavor. It dances with the veggie biryani, where the veggies are crisp. I also noticed some freebies that Dhillon has thrown in, raita (spiced yoghurt) and kheer (rice Pudding). Overall a 5 on 5 experience. I will be back to try more dishes and I can see Tadka becoming a neighborhood favorite for all things Indian, and pizza! Since this cannot all be rosy. The only feedback I would give to Dhillon, is to go easy on the oil for my orders. It's a personal preference. If you want excellent service, authentic North Indian food made with love, at very reasonable prices (perhaps the best in SF for quality Indian food), I would recommend calling Tadka and asking them for recommendations on your preferences.
