Finally tried these bagels. We went there around like 1 Pm. Still some people in line but maybe the line is more in the morning time. So we waited like 10-15 minutes. Okay I get the hype now - the bagels are so delicious. Of course we had to get the classic salmon bagel and tomato bagel on an everything and both were excellent. Perfect amount of cream cheese, flavors were balanced, the bread was toasted but not too crunchy. I loved them! Only reason for the 4 stars is there are no seats inside so you have to take it to go and because it's busy, the inside can get pretty crowded with people waiting. Service was average so it's pretty much an in and out situation. We finally got to try Apollo's bagels in Greenwich. Their sour, tangy sourdough flavor really sets them apart from many traditional New York bagels. They only offer plain, sesame, and everything bagels. I ordered both sesame and everything, each with lox, red onions, capers, dill, a splash of olive oil, and a freshly squeezed orange juice on the side. I love that the bagel was toasted, but I didn't like how hard it was to bite into especially the sesame one, which was a bit too chewy for my liking. I'm not sure if I could've requested it to be just warmed instead of toasted. Early risers won't have an issue with waiting, but by midday on weekends, there's a long, snaking line in front of the store. Luckily, it moved pretty quickly when we were there. There's very limited seating inside, so we took our bagels to Hudson River Park and enjoyed the view with our bagel. The staff were helpful, and overall, it's definitely worth a try. My favorite bagels in NYC. Sourdough bagels I'm convinced are just better, with a beautiful CRUNCH as you bite it into it, subtle sour flavor with a slight fluffiness. The cream cheese and toppings are wonderfully proportioned, with a fresh, delicious salmon (no fishy flavor, great quality), delicately crunchy and fresh onions, and smooth cream cheese. The tomatoes for the tomato and cream cheese sandwich are juicy, tasty, and not bland. I would recommend coming here for breakfast or lunch; if you go towards closing you definitely will notice that the bagels may not be as fresh, which is understandable. Not your typical bagel shop in the sense that they're focused on sandwiches rather than pumping out a variety of cream cheeses/bagels and breakfast sandwiches, so know that going in. I've been eating the prototype of these bagels at Leo for quite some years (the exact relationship between the two remains unclear to me, other than that the owners of Apollo got their start at Leo, and that the products are strikingly similar). Some people think that Apollo Bagels is overhyped and not traditional. There is some merit to the second claim, but I would counter that Apollo is an improvement on the classic. Despite the long lines (15-20 min on an off peak day), this is still worth the hype. I prefer the West Village location to the OG East Village one mainly because it is newer, so less well known. The prices are acceptable, although a dozen or half dozen with a container of cream cheese will be a better deal than a single bagel. I got half dozen in a mix plain and everything and both were very good with scallion cream cheese. I marginally prefer the plain (less messy) but I appreciate how the everything had topping on both the top and bottom side of the bagel, so even if you were to eat half, you will always get a side with topping. Apollo Bagels has become one of the most hyped bagel spots deriving from a sourdough pizza shop. You can expect a long line here, which took me an hour on a Sunday afternoon. There is also no seating, but many people took their bagels across the street at the local park, which also has tables. I ordered the Bagel with Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese, Caper, Red Onion, and Dill ($15) and Bagel with Cream Cheese and Tomato ($7). I also upgraded the salmon one with Scallion Cream Cheese (+$1) although I don't think I noticed much difference, so skip that extra charge. First impression, the open face bagels are very aesthetically pleasing and presented beautifully. The balance in flavors of all the toppings is great and the bagels were light. I ended up eating both bagels by myself without feeling super heavy, but they also don't overload the bagel with cream cheese like most NY bagel spots. The bagel is also toasted, which can be seen as a sin to most New Yorkers. While I enjoyed the crunch from the toast, the bagel became too chewy and tough after an hour or so. So if you're looking for a pretty and light bagel, Apollo is for you. If I'm craving a good NY loc bagel, I probably would skip coming here though. The one item that I was impressed with was their tomato. As someone who isn't a huge fan of raw tomatoes, I was so impressed with his huge and juicy the tomato slices were that made this bagel so refreshing. Loved this spot! I was visiting NY from LA and this place reminded me of Courage Bagel which is my all time fav spot. The bagels were perfectly toasted and alot of places in the city do not toast them unless asked. The freshness of the bagel made it an even more enjoyable experience. My friend loved her whitefish bagel, stating it was fresh, and not fishy. My salmon was fresh and not fishy and the stand out on the bagel was the fresh dill.
