Moonrise Bagels has become my favorite bagel spot lately. I've tried their stuffed bagels from their regular menu and specials, and they somehow keep coming up with such creative combos! They just launched another super creative collab with Peter Som, inspired by his cookbook Family Style, which features recipes from his Chinese American upbringing. Service is also very fast as my bagels are always ready in 5 minutes. Everyone there is so sweet. It feels like going to a neighborhood shop where everyone knows you by name. Shoutout to Andrea! ＊Hoisin Honey Chicken Stuffed Bagel $13 Inspired by Peter Som's hoisin honey roast chicken recipe, this has the chicken stuffed right into the center and comes with ginger scallion aioli on the side. The honey and hoisin seasoning gave similar vibes to a Canto roast meat honey glaze. The bagel itself was already so flavorful with the furikake sprinkled on the crust. The ginger scallion dip was like blending 薑蓉 (the scallion ginger sauce that comes with cantonese roasted meat) into a creamy dip. I wanted to dunk the entire bagel straight into the sauce. Loaded Bagels! Beware one of these bagels can definitely wreck your summer waistline! LOL. To be honest it does seem as if the inside of the bagel has been scooped some to allow for it to be stuffed so some carbs are taken away. These bagels are definitely delicious with something for every taste bud. There are many varieties of bagels each stuffed with egg, protein and cheesy goodness in each one. I've had several protein varieties including sausage and bacon, sausage being my favorite. My only deduction has to be the fact that these bagels are frozen and flash heated when ordered. There's no option to "have it your way" which may be by design. I'd rate it higher if there was an option without cheese. I came here on a weekend morning. There was a line but I only waited 8 minutes total to get my food. They had a lot of workers and kept things moving. The AC is nowhere near strong enough in here for the summer. People both before and after me on line commented on the heat in the store. There are 2 seats inside and 2 seats outside. The bagels come out extremely hot. I could not pick up the bagel without burning my hands for at least 5 minutes after I was given it. It is nice, and it's a good size. They had the items I wanted but they told two other people on line they did not have the items they wanted that day. I have been wanting to try Moonrise Bagels since they opened. Stopped by on a Monday morning when they were not busy. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese everything bagel and bottle of water. I have to say this didn't wow me. The filling was fine except that I didn't like how the bacon was chopped up into bits. The bagel dough was the issue for me. I didn't find it chewy and bagel like. SO GOOD. Might be my all time favorite bagel in NYC. The eggs were so fluffy on the inside and the bagel was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The only thing I wish is that you could customize them a little more. I wanted to add vegetarian sausage to one with real egg & cheese, but the beyond sausage was only offered in the fully vegan option which was a bummer. Walked in on a Saturday morning before noon and was delightfully surprised there was no line. It's a small shop with 2 small two-person tables inside and 2 small two-person tables outside. The service is friendly and they do provide plastic knifes if you ask for people that want to split their bagels with friends. The bagels themselves were disappointing, and all 3 bagels we had were surprisingly dry. The bacon, egg and cheese had a lot of bacon, but there was no cheese to be found. The pastrami was dry. I would have liked the pastrami and sauerkraut to be a bit more mixed together. The pastrami ended up on the inner ring and the sauerkraut on the outer ring of the bagel. The buffalo chicken stuffed was the biggest disappointment. The bagel really didn't have much buffalo flavor or detectable sauce. I think the issue baking a fried cutlet inside a bagel is that the bagel already provides the bread and the additional breading just soaks up all the sauce and the breading loses it's crispiness. Finally was in the area to try Moonrise Bagels and I definitely enjoyed every bite of it. The space is a bit small with minimal seating indoor and outdoor. The vibes inside were so fun! We were dancing while in line, waiting for our order, and when we were eating. I ordered the egg and cheese stuffed bagel with a dipping sauce on the side which is extra. The sauce complimented the bagel well and they gave a pretty good portion of it too. The bagel was pretty pricey; I think after tip I spent about $15. I love the idea of a stuffed bagel as it is unique and think it's something to say you've tried before. If you just want to pick up and go, I definitely suggest ordering for pickup. I wanted to try some of the specialty ones I've seen on Instagram, but those didn't seem to be on offer when I visited. That being said, you can't go wrong with a bacon, egg and cheese! I visited because of a video I saw on social media. Online it looked good, in person... a little underwhelming. I don't know why I tried this. After trying Moonrise Bagels at Bagel Fest last year and then seeing them featured on an ABC News - Neighborhood Eats segment, I made it my mission to get some of those stuffed bagels. Their newly opened store is conveniently located in the Village on W 8th St, east of 6th Ave, easily accessible from the A,B,C,D,E & F trains. When I arrive around 11am, I see that tons of people also saw it on the news because there is a line of about 20 people on the sidewalk and about a dozen inside waiting to order or pick-up. The gentleman ahead of me kindly shared his menu with me, so I could figure out what to order. The line moved pretty fast as people came out with their hauls. There is a simple procedure hung above the register: 1) Choose your stuff (BEC, SEC, VSEC, PatRueb, BuffChick or Pizza) 2) Choose your seeds (plain, everything, sesame, poppy or onion) 3) Choose your sauce (house moonie, ranch, chili aioli) +$1 ea or +$2 for all 3 4) Get stuffed I was excited when I got to the front, but was dejected that they had sold out of the 2 popular flavors, Pastrami Reuben and Cheese Pizza. So I ended up with a Bacon, Egg & Cheese (Everything), a Sausage, Egg & Cheese (Sesame) & a Buffalo Chicken (Onion). Each stuffed bagel is individually clamshell boxed. Even with walking in the cold back to the office, the bagels were still warm and the cheese was still gooey. They tasted just like a sandwich that was mashed together, which is novel, but I think I'd rather have them as a traditional sandwich instead. I didn't get any of the dipping sauces, so that might have enhanced the experience. Their dough is mixed and rolled up in Poughkeepsie, trucked down to the Village in the wee hours of the night (hence their name) and boiled & baked on the premises. That good ol' NYC tap water is what makes NYC bagels the best. Yes, they are pricey ($11/bagel). Yes, there will be a line (but it moves fast). Yes, they are unique, gimmicky & delicious, so they're worth a try. Yes, get there early because once they sell out, you'll have to come back the next day. As a native New Yorker, weaned on echt Kosher bagels and Kossar's bialys, wanted to try it out on my next daytime trip downtown. Noted they closed early based on whether they were sold out, however arrived at around 10:30 but still had a short, slow line that extended outdoors - it's a small storefront with hardly any seating. In fact, the Pizza bagel was barely filled! (See pic - a real, rip-off!) While best of the three was the Reuben, it was nothing to write home about or post online (except to complain). As others have mentioned, you're paying an arm and a leg for the New York novelty aspect of it-kind of odd that they deem themselves the "original stuffed bagel" would need the substantiation to prove it forreal. At least in line, we were given a menu to look through-the menu is quite condensed so it's pretty easy to figure out what you do / don't want. We ordered: 1x Buffalo Chicken, Everything bagel 1x 100% Vegan, Everything bagel The bagel quality is nothing to write home about, the eggs are really overcooked since the bagel is premade. Because everything is premade, the distribution of ingredients are inconsistent and I got more egg / cheese vs. vegan meat, so it felt like I was eating an egg / cheese bagel. Seating is limited to tight, so it's truly common courtesy to eat and then go your way out however somehow we sat next to a group of three who ate and then eventually sat around using their phone. I mean it's a New Yorker thing, but you need to read the room-if you wanna use your phone post meal go to the library or elsewhere where space isn't a luxury. I would either wait for the hype of this place to die down, or bear waiting in line one time for the one time. Would still prefer Apollo or Pop Up over this though... I love a bacon, egg, and cheese so that was my natural choice. It was piping hot when I got it, so took a few minutes to let it cool. Really unique addition to NYC's bagel scene. I got the pizza stuffed bagel in everything and plain bagel, no sauce. I was pleasantly surprised by how non overwhelming the bagel was. It had the taste of a pizza slice without the sluggish, oily aftertaste of one while also preserving the essence of a bagel.
