I go to TS Bagels because it's what I've known living in the area for 9 years. Staff are usually pretty cold, even when empty, but whatever. I like to go early on a Sunday before they get busy. The place is empty when I get there (read: no line) with 5-6 people working. I order a Pastrami lox w/ capers, tomato, onion ($20) with a drip coffee with (as usual) the least generous splash of oat milk which they charge a dollar extra for ($5.50). To spend almost $26 on a grab and go breakfast, even if it has lox, is not a small amount. The first time they get the order wrong even after I say pastrami lox multiple times and they remake it (it takes way too long considering what happens). The second time, they make the pastrami lox but forget all the toppings - which of course you py extra for. I trust they did it right this time and realize when I am sitting down to eat in Tompkins Square Park I go back and ask for a refund since they already made it incorrectly once. Feels sloppy and disrespectful at this point. They're not apologetic for the multiple attempts at making my order at all. I just bought my first home nearby so was hoping to continue to patron them weekly as a local but they objectively ride on reputation alone. Overpriced with little consideration for customers. Will be finding a new bagel spot and update this post when I find it! In response to owner reply: It is overpriced when you are providing one drop of oat milk every time and charging $1 for it. Stopped by for bagels with a friend on a Saturday at 1pm and waited around 25 mins which wasn't too bad. There's a couple small tables inside and we snagged one and sat there to eat. I got the el chapo sandwich bagel and couldn't taste any chipotle mayo, it was pretty dry I wouldn't get it again. My friend's bacon egg and cheese looked great! Wish I ordered something else. A truly huge bagel that will keep you filled up throughout the day! I came to this location on a Thursday morning, and even though there were a lot of folks waiting, the line wasn't too bad compared to its competitors. Similarly to others, this is designed to be a quick grab and go but there are a couple of tables if you need a place to eat your food. When you come in, you'll need to go to the back to order with their employee, who will write down your order and name on a slip. Once you get the slip, you go to the register to pay. In total, I paid $16 for a Koch on an everything bagel and waited around 10 minutes with about 8 people ahead of me. The bagel itself, as I mentioned, was gigantic and packed. The Koch is filled with two eggs, scallion cream cheese, and pastrami. The bagel itself was a typical NYC bagel but didn't really have any interesting textures or profiles that made it unique. After a few days of ordering that godlike bagel and schmear, I was truly feeling like a New Yorker at this point. Day 3 of having bagels till I say enough is enough! Onto the bagel, you already should know by now. Toasted everything bagel, smoked salmon, capers, scallion cream cheese, tomato and onions to seal the deal. And just a heads up, this is a massive bagel. It's YUGE! Out of all the bagels I had, this one was a football. I mean massive. Super healthy portion of fillings and the flavor top tier! I've already had the Pumpernickel Everything Bagel and Espresso Cream Cheese. Today I am having a Sourdough Bagel that I took home for breakfast. I saved it in the freezer. Today I toasted it and added cream cheese. It's so delicious moist inside and a light crunch outside! Tompkins Square Bagel is one of the friendliest and most efficient bagel shops I've ever visited! They have a crazy amount of unique cream cheese flavor which can be a little overwhelming but it's super fun to be able to try so many new things! Service is fairly quick. Tompkins Square Bagels is popular for good reason. When I arrived on a Saturday afternoon, there was a line out the door. It went by pretty quickly until I realized that the line stretched even further inside the shop. I ended up waiting half an hour until I reached the cash register to pay for my bagel. The good thing is that your bagel is all packed and ready for you by the time you get to the register because they have people taking down your order while you're in line, so they're already preparing your bagels. This was a smart logistical move, which I appreciated. I ended up adding an extra bagel order when I was paying, but I didn't have to wait since it was a simple order with no cooking nor toasting. Since it's located near Tompkins Square Park, many people walk over to enjoy their bagels there. I ordered one Bacon, Egg & Cheese on French Toast Bagel ($10) and one Bacon Scallion Cream Cheese on Everything Bagel ($6). The bagels are so fluffy and chewy on the inside but crispy and well flavored on the outside. There are huge chunks of bacon and scallions on the cream cheese, which gave it a nice texture to the smooth cream cheese. What really won me over here is the BEC on French toast bagel --it's the perfect combination of a sweet and savory breakfast bagel. I loved everything about this from the melty cheese, fluffy eggs, crunchy bacon, and cinnamon swirls inside the bagel. Trust me, get this combo. Update: the owner reached out and was incredibly professional in response to my experience. I added another star simply because of said prompt response. The only reason there are 2 stars, is for the hardworking staff making the sandwiches. As for the folks you actually interact with.... zero stars if it was possible.
