Top shelf cocktails and craft beers with a view, we met friends here for a few drinks before dinner being we had previously made dinner reservations at a different restaurant. This is a very upscale restaurant and bar set high above Lake Lure, I was told the original structure was built in the 1940's so there's lots of history here and the owner's stick to the historic culture that may seem pretentious to some. There are no can or bottled beers, only crafted beers on tap, they are served in chilled glassware and are ice cold and delicious, the alcohol pours are very generous but are limited to the higher end brands no Jim Beam or Jack Daniel's here the lower end would be Buffalo Trace hey I'm not complaining just saying. Tonight our Bartender was Jenn friendly and a professional mixologist watching her work creating cocktails was pretty amazing. No one in our group had any complaints and probably would of stayed for a few more if time had allowed. The only challenge I experienced was getting here, the narrow drive is somewhat hidden and it was daylight when we arrived, I can't imagine after the sun sets behind the mountains. All I can say is WOW. The food at Appalachia left me speechless! We arrived with a reservation, and our server was friendly and efficient. She offered the daily specials and made some excellent recommendations for our group. We ordered: -Little Gem "Wedge" Salad (pickled shallot, applewood slab bacon, herb oil, "everything bagel" crunchy stuff, confit tomato, house blue cheese dressing.) -Toasted Ciabatta for the Table (garlic confit, whipped butter, garden herbs, balsamic reduction) -Charcuterie (Chef's selection of two cured meats and two local cheeses, pepper jelly, mustard butter, grilled sourdough + accompaniments) -Chicken Liver & Black Truffle Pâté (cherry mostarda, cornichon, crostini, smoked Maldon salt, whole grain mustard) -Braised Beef Short Rib (grilled wild mushrooms, natural jus, orange gremolata, creamy couscous) -Gemelli (duck confit, toasted pecan, balsamic-brown butter, local apple, Calabrian chili-whipped ricotta, chive) -Steak Du Jour (Chef's daily preparation. charred broccolini, duck-fat fried fingerling potatoes, roasted garlic aioli) The standouts were the charcuterie and the braised beef short rib. We never miss the chance to dine at Applachia and they never fail to impress us. Absolutely one of the most talented chefs in the state oversees the kitchen and the wait staff is most professional. We try not to eat until dinner and then without fail I've ordered the same dish at least 10 times - blackened shrimp with jambalaya. A new gem!!!! Ok let me rephrase an existing restaurant has a new owner. So this beautiful location has new owners and a completely new vibe! First of all the view.......wow swoon! If your looking to enjoy the views with company, for a girls trip or date night here is your location. Second the cocktails, an extremely sophisticated menu with lots of craft cocktails with fresh fruits and homemade bitters. Also an extensive and well thought out wine list! Third, the food. We came with a large party of 10 very hungry! We ordered to start foie gras butter with strawberry jam and toast points, focaccia with butter, beet salad, tomato soup, all were delish! For dinner we ordered the ribeye with mushroom risotto and green beans. Large portion delicious flavor. We also ordered cacio e Pepe gnocchi, the duck, with a blueberry sauce, the jambalaya with fresh local shrimp and the wedge salad. Everyone was over the moon excited with their options. We had a later reservation. We were still able to see the Lakeview. We were early so we had to wait to touch for our table, but we told staff it was not an issue. We were not on schedule. Staff was attentive. Dinner was fabulous. My daughter loves to get the charcuterie board. It was quite large. Two meats and at least two cheeses with some fruit and peppers. My young daughter ordered a pork belly appetizer for her main. The portions size was adequate for a main. She loved it. My wife had the tenderloin with potatoes and morels and she said it was perfect. I enjoyed my lamb chops. I didn't have room for dessert, but sometimes you have to say what the heck. My daughter had crème brûlée which she loves. She says it was the best ever. I had the chocolate moose trifle and it was yummy. Will be back in the area to come again. read more

By far the best restaurant in the region for delicious food, beautiful views, and great service. Even the salads have a chef-inspired innovation flavors and textures. The food and service was amazing...until 12 hours later when the food poisoning kicked in. My wife and I both had scallops, and let's just say we were regretting that decision exactly 12 hours later. Everything was so well prepared! But wait.....Dessert was on the Horizon :-) The Creme Brulee was perfected with some homemade whipped crème and sliced almonds.
