Great food all around they have a lot of fish dishes but one negative their coleslaw has no taste whatsoever just cabbage and mayonnaise not very lemony or no salt pepper on it. So we just left Appalachian Grill after one of the worst dinners ever! We've been there before and had a wonderul experience. So we thought we would treat our son and his wife (new parents of a 2 month old) for a nice dinner out as a family (sans baby). Service was slower than normal, but that wasn't the real issue. Our entrees were delivered before our soup and salads. They offered to take our entrees away and "keep them warm" until after our soup and salads came out. So we agreed. Our son's French onion soup was delivered just luke warm - not even hot. The salads were fine, though. Our daughter-in-law's steak was ordered medium rare, but it came out rare so it had to be sent back. Our son's chicken fingers were also undercooked and had to be sent back, but only after our son had already eaten some of the undercooked chicken. I ordered the signature "Appalachian Grill" dish and the potatoes were burnt. At this point there were so many issues that we asked to talk to the manager and he offered to remove the signature dish from the bill. Our son and his wife were so turned off that they couldn't even eat their "corrected" entrees. The bill came and it was over $150. The only food that we actually ate was the Pickles and Pups appetizer and 3 salads. I asked for the servers and managers names and made it clear that I was going to write a review and that we would not be coming back. After we placed our credit card on the check, the owner came out to our table and began to cuss us out. When I told him I would be writing a reivew, his response was "I am the king of 1 star reviews" and asked us to leave. So we grabbed our credit card and proceeded to leave. After we left the restaurant he approached us at our car and proceeded to threaten us and even called me a "punk ass bitch." I should've called the police becasue we were already outside at our car and it looked like he was going to physically attack us. Our son and his wife were waiting for us outside and witnessed his tirade. Our daughter-in-law was terrified that the ower was going to get physically violent. There was no reason for him to follow us outside and continue to berate us at our vehicle as we were in the process of leaving. Either the owner was intoxicated or he needs to go to anger management. The staff were very friendly and since the main dining area was booths, I asked for a high top in the bar area. There are no fountain drinks and later, when I asked for a refill, I thought I'd been forgotten. But it turned out the waitress was diligently seeking another can, but apologized as I'd been served the last can of Diet Pepsi in stock. For a starter I had the Jan's Miracle Mushroom Soup that was topped with a puff. Despite it's airiness, I had to carefully workaround the puff until I'd consumed half of the soup, since it was too tough to cut with a fork. And cutting with a knife meant I risked spilling the soup over the edge. The flavor was great and I'd definitely order it again. For my entree I had the rib eye and a baked potato as the side. It had a wonderful color and had a nice seasoning. It was a quality cut and was cooked to order, and had a touch of au jus that helped flavor the potato. Visited for the first time. We were favorably impressed. Greeted immediately and taken to a table right then and there. Bust Knight we just happen to walk in at the right time I guess because all the tables were filled. Our server came to the table within a minute and took her drink order came back served. The drinks took our generator. I mean at this point everything was perfect. You couldn't have asked for anything more. I don't think. I had the house salad for an appetizer and we ordered the filet mignon and the ribeye steak for dinner. Both were very good.. It was a generous size ribeye for $46 and that's middle range these days for steak certainly not expensive. The restaurant is small. It's not very large and people are sitting very close to each other but the very high ceilings kept the noise at a minimum and talking to your dinner, companion was easy. He didn't have to strain to hear or yell for them to hear you. Overall, I'd say it was a very enjoyable experience. The food was good (not great but good) , Service was very good and the meal went off without a hitch. I would ignore all the negative views and give it a shot and decide for yourself. walked in for a lunch meeting on a tight clock, starving with low blood sugar needing to eat, they refused to seat me because "my entire party wasn't present" the place was practically empty. I won't ever return. the food was just adequate and the service was not any better. Sitting in the lobby for 20 minutes listening to the waitstaff gossip about each other was not exactly pleasant either. After never having a bad experience over many years at Appalachian Grill, last night was a swing & a miss. To be fair, the food was actually mostly good and the ambiance is still nice, except for some odd smells from the kitchen at times. Anyway, it was a 30-min wait - not surprising given the popularity of the place, but we did notice some tables sitting empty for a while. Staffing maybe? Anyway, we were seated & "M" promptly arrived asking about drinks & specials. We said we'd need just a minute but would start with water. She disappeared for a solid 10-12 min. We almost left but she returned & took orders. I got shrimp bisque (good but no shrimp pieces noticed or really no real shrimp flavor). Wife got the miracle mushroom soup with a beautiful puff pastry on top & loved it. We split the Gouda bacon burger with fries. We'd have each ordered full entrees but to sub a different vegetable on the fish dinner was going to cost another $2, putting fried haddock at over $30. No thanks. Mercifully, the soups came quickly but burger took another 20 min. as we saw food delivered to new arrivals all around us. Burger was good but the plank fries were ugly (with a big brown spot on top) & nothing to write home about. Looked on yelp to find a place for lunch and one particular photo brought me in. I found the place no problem and was warmly greeted by the staff and Miranda was an excellent server. it was OK. My partner brought me here as this is a spot. He swore down the burgers were good. Service was a little slow, even though someone did greet us. They may have been 10 minutes after we sat down. Relay to find out they close at nine. Anyway, I got the shrimp gumbo. It was not good. I'm really not sure what that was about but there was no shrimp in it whatsoever appears more of this a cream soup with barely a shrimp taste to it. Very disappointed. After being seated, we asked for a high chair and were told the restaurant doesn't have any at all. Not that they were all in use...none. For a casual restaurant in downtown Cartersville that regularly serves families, this is baffling. We had a toddler with us and had no choice but to leave and eat elsewhere. I've visited many times over the years, including countless times while pregnant with my child but this was an incredibly frustrating experience and not something I would have expected from a family-friendly restaurant. I am mixed on this review, while I enjoyed the restaurant my steak had so much fat throughout it was difficult to eat. I know some fat is enjoyable but this was just too much. Nice historic space, dim and quiet. But the experience does not live up to the visual promise. The stir-fry was watery and undercooked and the chili was bland. The servers were pleasant enough but they seemed distracted, even though it wasn't busy. Some customers may also be put off by the far-right wing television shows conspicuously playing in the bar and the signs that deliberately insult "Democrats." I don't mind that restaurant owners have political beliefs that may differ from mine, but I would wonder why they would want to make people feel unwelcome. read more

My husband and I went to the Telles Museum yesterday for my birthday and stopped at this restaurant for lunch first. I have to say if it wasn't 1 hour and 45 minutes from our house we would be regulars. The atmosphere is rustic, unique and warm. Our server was Kim and she was lovely. Attentive without being intrusive. The food was DELICIOUS! I had the pecan crusted trout and my husband had the scallops and shrimp pasta. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area. I was there when Wayne, who recently posted a review, was there. I heard him doing the yelling. Yelling "Raw Chicken" as he was walking out of the restaurant. And he made his waitress cry, berating her and saying he was going to name her in his review because he thought his food was not worth eating. Some people get a thrill from being a bully. Our entire dining experience here has been nothing but great. The muscles app was outstanding, as was all of our food. The only exception was hearing Wayne yell "Raw Chicken" on his way out, leaving a young waitress crying. Bravo for the owner for protecting his people. The music and lighting was fine when we arrived. Half way through our meal, the lights dimmed slightly (in an already dim room) and the music volume nearly doubled. The lighting was as annoying as the music, the music volume was honestly absurd. I would suggest some sort of earplugs to soften/dull the music. It's my second time here and it is just as disappointing as the first. I have tried the fried pickles, calamari, and crawfish for appetizers and they were all VERY salty. They were served with a good sauce. The entrees I have tried are the shrimp and grits and the pan roasted shrimp and scallops. The shrimp and grits was so-so maybe a 6/10. The pan roasted shrimp and sea scallops was okay, maybe a 4/10. The "spicy" Alfredo sauce was regular subpar Alfredo, could have been from a jar and would taste better. When they say a dish has onions and peppers, like the pan roasted shrimp and sea scallops, the dish has TONS of peppers and onions. I could not even see pasta for the peppers and onions, and I only got 3 shrimp and 3 scallops so definitely not worth the price. The service was great, our waitress was fantastic. The service does not make up for the terrible ambience and subpar food. My boyfriend and I came about 10 months ago and it was the same. He will not come back. I gave it a second chance. I came back with my parents and grandmother this time because we had a gift card. It was just as terrible. I do not know how this place has such a high average star rating. read more

I had the Grouper with a Crab Cake. Others had Catfish & 1 had the Appalachian Grill Special. For Dessert we had Key Lime Pie & Creme Brulee. Our amazing server was Ally. Great place to have a Saturday lunch. We had the crabcakes which were good. My wife had the catfish which was great. The Brussels spouts and collard greens were awesome. So the food here is above par. I've lived in Georgia since 1986 and let me tell you that this is a come up for Cartersville. It's a lot to overcome a stigma, but this is definitely a start. My date got chicken fingers (basically) served grilled Normally he asked for it fried but all the healthy outside of it. I took the special asking for rice over potatoes. They totally delivered. There is plenty of parking in the back where gps takes you and parking in the street or across it. The bar was closed to seating due to short staffing but the main and rear dining areas were open for lunch. Enjoy the change wear people make life better. This was a mill converted. I had high hopes for this place, and in terms of food, it absolutely delivered. Every dish that came out of the kitchen was outstanding--fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and beautiful presentation. The ribeye was a standout, and the mashed potatoes were a perfect pairing. Unfortunately, the experience was let down by the bar service. While the drinks themselves were decent, the bartender was inattentive and dismissive. It took far too long to get anyone's attention, and when we finally did, we were met with few words and nothing close to a "Have a good night" as we were leaving despite being one of two customers left at the bar. The bar staff was cleaning up the area around us as we were eating - water from the bar was splashed on my face absentmindedly as someone cleaned the area without thought. I heard two bartenders complaining about other people right in front of me and rather than providing service snapchats were made. If you're going for the food--and I highly recommend you do--you're in for a treat. Just don't expect a smooth or pleasant experience at the bar. This restaurant will receive a one star review from me until they get high chairs. How do you not have a single highchair for families with babies or toddlers? I spoke to the manager and her excuse was "we haven't been able to get a high chair since before lockdown" THREE YEARS?!! Amazon has multiple restaurant quality high chairs that can be delivered in one day. Apparently, they also own Ate Track across the street who does not have high chairs. My wife and I visited the Appalachian Grill for our anniversary after hearing great things, and it absolutely lived up to the hype! The experience including the service was fantastic from start to finish. I ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich, and it was amazing--like a delightful mix of a meal and dessert!
