got in late on a business trip and saw this place...thought to myself Thai food from out here, in WI? I was unsure about this since the bay area (CA) is loaded with Thai restaurants, most of them all good. When I sat down, the ambiance didn't seem like a Thai restaurant feel (I heard later that this placed just opened); the staff was very nice and my water glass was always full :) onto the food; I ordered the Larb and was expecting a salad type but these came in as fried balls; not sure if it was suppose to be like this or if I mis-ordered; it was tasty a bit on the salty side but the sweet sauced balanced the flavor. the main dish was the best and star of the night; I ordered the Chicken basil. It was not the kind that I was use to; it was a darker sauce and full of veggies. Chicken basil that I order out here in the west don't have that much veggie and the flavor is ok; typical flavor sauce that they use as a base. But the one here at Appethai was full of flavor and the chicken was tender. It was the perfect balance of veggies, 'sauciness', flavor (sweet, spicy salty) and it was probably the best chicken basil I have ever eaten; definitely top 3 :) i wanted to post pictures but seems like i can't; I will definitely come here again when I am in town; either go for the sure thing or try something new. read more

As a solo diner most of the time I am thrilled to find a place that is as accommodating to one as it is to a group without being dismissive. AppeThai has done this and more on every visit, every server, bartender and host. This starts a meal out right, but the food then just makes it better and better. My go-to lunch has become the green papaya salad (perfect balance of vinegar and heat), chicken wings (crisp and amazingly salted) and the basket of sticky rice. I don't even like rice, but I could enjoy this by itself and not be disappointed. Amazing what they did to the interior from the Mexican restaurant it was before, a beautiful space. Don't be leery of the strip mall restaurants if they can be as good as this one! read more

Really decent Thai attempt in the middle of nowhere. The place was simply decorated but cozy. I tried the pad thai which is a safe bet and also tried their signature volcano dish. Extremely tasty but not warm enough. Guess it was sitting there waiting for the pad thai. read more

Love this place! The more I come here the more it's becoming my favorite Thai place. I especially like the drunken noodle dish here (pad kee mo). it never disappoints,It's one of the best dishes in my opinion. I usually order it with chicken. You can choose between pork and steak and also choose how spicy you want the dish to be. As of lately, per a recommendation by one of the waitresses, I have tried the kang gary kai, which is a yellow curry sauce with chicken. It pretty good, perfectly seasoned, it's a little spicy but no too much so you can eat it without taking breaks (-: The restaurant also offers Thai tea which I always find to be very good with unique taste. My husband and I found this place right before Christmas and have already eaten there a handful of times since then. We love it. We really love spicy food and this place delivers with great heat without losing any flavor. The Pad Kee Mao is our go to (husband always goes with beef and I always get tofu), but I've also tried the Pad Thai, which was good. However, my go to after the Pad Kee Mao is the Yellow Curry. Dinner portions are a good size (especially if you order take away) and service is always fast and efficient. Their crab Rangoon is my favorite in the area. Highly recommend! read more

Went to this restaurant to celebrate our son's birthday. We had reservations, but we're about 20 minutes early. The hostess made a special effort to seat us the restaurant was very full. People coming in all evening. The food was delicious. If you like Asian food, especially Thai, I encourage you to eat at this restaurant. The food is from original Thai recipes. This restaurant is such a great new addition in the Brown Deer area. My husband and I came in for lunch and just made it in time before lunch hours ended. I had been in this restaurant space before when it was Habanero's and all I have to say is, the renovation was amazing! They opened it up and definitely gave it an asian feel. The food was even better. It was probably the best pad see ewe I've ever had. The hubby had soup equivalent to "chicken pho" and we also had the papaya salad. Best curry I have ever tried!! At other Thai restaurants, they all taste the same. But at Appethai, you can actually taste the uniqueness in each one!! My favorite is the green curry! They also have the best pad kee mow I've ever tried!! At other restaurants, I personally feel theirs all taste like pad see eew! I love that they actually want the restaurant to be full of color and decor. I love that they actually have Thai music playing! I can go on and on about all the things I love about this place! Absolutely the worst service I have ever experienced. The food is average. We arrived at 6:00, party of 2, plenty of tables for 2. Wed night , only 4 other tables with customers and we are seated at a table for 4? After a small wait we place a order for 1 app , 2 drinks and dinner. We receive the drinks , strangely the app and dinners come out together. About 25 minutes after being seated. The waitress asks if we would like another drink and we order 2 more drinks , she brings back the drinks and the bill? My colleague and I laughed, but I place my credit card on the bill and we start to drink what is apparently our last drink , desert is not an option haha. 2 sips into a drink and the "owners" wife comes across the dinning room wielding a spray bottle of cleaner, loudly proclaiming she booked that table for a party of 4 and we need to leave because they have arrived??? I questioned "Karen" and she stated "You have been here for 45 minutes" we have the right to make you leave , we limit seating to 45 minutes? When I responded you just charged me for drinks less then 5 minutes ago? Where does it state I have to consume everything I purchase within 45 minutes regardless of when you serve it to me ??? "Karen's Policy" seemed to take affect as soon as I paid the bill. She then decided to continue to disrespect me and my guest by shouting , you need to leave and you can no longer return to "Her" restaurant as everyone watched in amazement around us. Please note the 4 tables that were occupied prior to our arrival are all still seated. Just for clarification the choice to not return to your restaurant is not yours , its mine. If I could give the owners wife less than 1 star I would. I would recommend you just turn "Your" restaurant into a drive thru, that way no stop watch will be needed and hopefully "Karen's" customer interaction is limited. Yum! I was so excited for the opening of this place! I ordered Pad Thai to go and was not disappointed at all. It was a little bit strange because at first they told me I couldn't take my food to go. So I sat at a table alone, got a glass of wine and ordered my meal. It all worked out and I'll chalk it up to just opened up kinks. Can't wait to try more of the menu. I love this place. Everything I've had here is awesome. Granted I've never been to Thailand, I'm not even that familiar with the food or whether or not this is authentic, but honestly I don't care because it is stupendously delicious. I may be prejudiced because the owners are incredibly nice and friendly and happy to talk to whomever comes in, or because after my second visit they treated me like a regular, or because they suggested dishes that were exactly what I wanted even if I didn't know it. When I moved to Milwaukee, I found it hard to find good decent Asian food. Sometimes the food is too bland, too expensive, too salty, etc ... but AppeThai is the place that I've been looking for. Came in on a Friday night, place was almost full but we were seated right away! Nice atmosphere for a Thai restaurant. We got the pad see ewe with pork which was by far the best I've ever had. Noodles were perfect and meat and veggies had a nice crisp to them to balance the noodle texture. We also got the massaman curry with chicken which had great flavor and a big portion! I tried carry out of their yellow chicken Kang Kari Gai and their Pad Thai. The yellow chicken is as good as it would be at most local Thai places. Neither amazing or bad. It was just fine. Their pad thai was the same.. but frankly, I think Pad Thai would taste better, while piping hot, dine in. The appetizers and service were great, though the two main dishes that we ordered "mild" very VERY spicy! We inquired about whether they'd made an error- we couldn't finish it was so hot- but they said it was their "mild". And apparently there was no way to get "no spice", so sadly we won't be returning. Me and my wife love Thai food and live in Brown Deer, so we were very excited when we noticed they were open. We ordered absolutely delicious appetizers of pork skewers and crab rangoon, which is the best I've had in 20 years. Our main course did not come out quickly, and our waitress was very apologetic. I told her that it was no problem as, it's Friday night, we're enjoying our appetizers, were having a great conversation and we don't have to be anywhere! Hot delicious food thats being cooked from scratch plated and presented in an eye catching way should take time (also they are new). Years ago there was a place in Thiensville called Little Bangkok. The food was amazing. The chefs name was Ka, She took the time to make everything fresh. Circumstances beyond her control caused her to close down. Well she's back, cooking at Appethai. I go for the Volcano chicken. Her sauce is to die for. I have not tried anything else yet. Several of my favs from her old place are not on Bangs menu, but if what's on the menu is anything like the VC there's a lot to look forward to. read more

Love, love, love this restaurant! The food is absolutely delicious, the service is impeccable, the atmosphere is cozy,and the drinks are spot on :-). The first time I eat here with a friend for lunch and heavy chicken basil curry. YUM! Portion size was perfect. Didn't think I could eat it all but as we chatted through lunch I devoured the whole plate. I loved it so much I brought my husband for dinner there a few days later and had the volcano chicken. Scrumptious! The crispy coding on the chicken was just excellent and I can't say enough about the sauce on the cabbage and veggies it was nestled in. My friend always orders the Pad Thai and loves it so much she won't venture off her norm. My husband and an awesome dish I can't remember the name of but said we'll have to go back again soon. The decor of AppeThai is phenomenal. We love everything about it from the tables to the chairs to the wall hangs! The food was excellent! We ordered spring rolls, chicken satay and crab Rangoon for appetizers. They were all very delicious....especially the spring rolls. The spring rolls were one of the best that I have ever had! For the main course we ordered the Pad Thai and the Salmon. Both dishes were amazing. The Pad Thai (medium spice) had a great kick and the favors were excellent and tasted very fresh. Took my dad here for lunch. Price is comparable to other Thai restaurants, but the portions were so tiny. Not worth it. Ordered their red curry dish for $9 something and it came out in a bowl the size of a teacup. WTH? You could get a serving plate size of this somewhere else. Their calamari appetizer was around $8 and when it came out, there were only a few tiny pieces. Same with the beef larb. Was around $10 and it was enough for one person only. You can go elsewhere and pay the same amount for better quality and quantity. Super disappointed on how stingy they are. This place is more like a small plates restaurant. read more
