Love this place, first time trying their food. I tried the chicken panang curry lunch entree that came with an egg roll and soup. Pretty yummy. Since they were takeout only I called them in advance with no luck after calling a few times so I ordered in person and did not take them long to have my order ready, maybe 10 mins max. Food was great. It came out fresh and hot. Careful With the eggroll when fresh out of the fryer. It was pretty good. I would try their other dish next time, maybe the pads see Ew or we'll see what I'm feeling for next time! Street parking. I've lived in the area for 3 years and finally checked out this place for a light lunch. I got an order of their fresh spring rolls which were GINORMOUS for the price and fresh, however the amount of lettuce packed inside overcrowded the other fillings. The Thai tea was refreshing and a bit on the sweet side, but it did dilute perfectly with the ice over time. It wasn't bad, just not a pad thai. - laab with beef - still right on. I got the heat 4 (from 1 to 4) and it was too spicy. Still good. But I'd tone it down a bit next time. I've had it at other places and I could always take the heat for this dish but this place takes their heat seriously! - whole fried fish with garlic sauce. The fish came wrapped in foil, with sauce on the side. The sauce was good. Hubby liked it. I think I will try the ginger sauce next time. The fish was cooked perfectly. I asked for their smallest sized fish, and it was $22. It also came with a tie of stir fried cabbage+carrots. it looked bland, but surprised me with how good it tasted. Nothing special, but quite good on its own. I do cook a pretty good yellow curry myself, though, so this is not a dish I would get next time. - pad thai - after asking the server what the difference between the regular and the "new" pad Thai, we were told that the "new" pad Thai was more flavorful and that the regular one, which is more traditional and sweet. We got the original, but it really wasn't quite the traditional pad Thai I'm used to. It certainly was sweet, but it was also kinda soupy with ketchup flavors... I've never had a pad Thai with so much sauce. Just from pictures of other yelpers, it looks like the "new" pad Thai doesn't have as much sauce... and I'd love to try that next time. As of 3/24/24, this place is still only open for carry-out! I've heard great things about this place and have been wanting to try it for so long but my craving schedule never aligned with their times! We ordered (all with level 3 spice) panang curry, pad see ew, and their new pad thai. Although we all did level 3, we did notice some dishes leaned more spicy than others, so be careful if you're pretty sensitive to spice. I really enjoyed everything we ordered and definitely had enough for multiple meals. My favorite was the new pad thai because it reminded me of my favorite thai restaurant back home. They are takeout only still, and the only part of the place that is open for customers to enter is a little vestibule area. It is a little tight if other customers are inside waiting their food. The man working the front that brought me the food was super upbeat and cheery. which brightened my day! The red curry and pad thai came as very generous portions. I got a spice level of 3 and it was delicious, spicy, but not too spicy to be enjoyable. My friend's pad thai was not that spicy at a spice level of 2. I also got a cup of tom kha soup was smaller than I had expected and looked pretty oily. It tasted decent although it wasn't the best that I've had. I would try their tom yum next time or just stick to the main dishes. Other than the fact that it's quite expensive and the pepper steak was mostly vegetables and sauce, it's a good Thai food spot! Around 4 years later and visiting almost all of Milwaukee's Thai restaurants Thai A Kitchen is still my favorite Thai spot in Milwaukee! My go to now is the green curry with shrimp or the shrimp pho. Once again they have the best prices you can find with matching quality (even with inflation). I have went to way more fancy Thai spots that have the same dishes but always find myself wanting the flavor and spice of Thai Kitchen. Also the staff is absolutely amazing. Every time I call to pick-up im greeted with enthusiasm and joy, it makes it feel like I really matter to them. The name on the awning out front is actually "Thai A Kitchen", and if you didn't know what you were looking for (purple awning!), you might miss it as its tucked into the businesses along Oakland Ave. The staff are so nice and courteous, and the food is excellent. We've never tried a dish we didn't like! Some of the favorites and go-to orders in our household are the Thai spring rolls and the fresh rolls for appetizers. The Thai spring rolls are always crispy, and the dipping sauce isn't too sweet. Entree favorites are the Ram Long Song (that peanut sauce though!!) and the Thai Connection. Noodle dishes that are a must-try are the New Pad Thai and the Pad See Euw. You will always get asked the "spicy" level that you want, so it's nice to be able to customize if you like it hot or not! Everything is always fresh, and the price for what you receive is spot on. We almost always get a second meal with the leftovers too! Have we had to wait 1.5 hours for our food recently? Yes. Quaint place with friendly staff. Interior is dimly lighted, but lit enough to read the menu. Ambiance was very casual and laid back. Service was a tad slow for the amount of people in the restaurant. We ordered crab rangoons as an appetizer...I think the crab was missing because it strictly was eating cream cheese that was deep fried in a wonton wrapper. In a nutshell, the food was salty for every dish. I ordered the Nua Nam Tok, which I can truly appreciate that they have here because most places offer the laab/larp which is ground up meat. The flavor is spot on, minus the overkill on the salt. The pad thai was a disappointment. It reminded me of ramen noodles I'd cook at home without liquid. Something was off about the flavor. If they ask you about the spice, it's REAL here. I ordered medium and the spice lingered on my lips for a bit. Portion sizes are fairly large so there's enough to take home. Customer service was TOP NOTCH. So friendly! Finally tried the "new" chicken pad Thai and it absolutely exceeded expectations. These expectations were high, thanks to Reddit. So so flavorful (a bit rich for me, perfect according to my bf)! The white meat chicken was really good, in size and flavor. Lots of it. Anything positive you hear about this place, FACTS. They're hidden as heck (not really but took a google street view + passing by on foot to find it, ha.) The food was plentiful! I'd skip the overly greasy crab rangoons that didn't have much to offer for flavor but sometimes they're a must! The pad thai's came w a greasy but very tasty egg roll w some delicious sauce! Would highly recommend if you want awesome customer service, support local, and have legit Thai dishes (so I read, as I'm limited to chicken pad Thai). We got spice level 2&3 and 3 was so hot. Update: now with more pictures! I have had slightly better Thai food in Milwaukee but I still come back to Thai Kitchen at least every now and then. I like that they're nearby and the service is always good. The staff is low-key, not over-the-top friendly, but they're always good about keeping your water glass refilled and bringing things like extra napkins. They're true to their hole-in-the-wall vibe but you don't feel ignored as a customer. I have tried several things. My opinion is that they excel most at curries and noodles. The red curry might be my favorite dish--creamy, spicy, full of bell peppers and bamboo shoots and your choice of meat, veggies or tofu. It's perfect for soaking up with white rice. I'm also partial to the "new" pad Thai, as mentioned previously. I've had the pho and it's decent if maybe not a highlight. The fried rice is just right for a budget carb fix and not lacking in flavor. The Tom yum goong and Tom kha gai soups are perfect as an appetizer course--though I've seen people order full hot pots. The neighborhood seems to be increasingly filling up with national chain restaurants as tenants vacate, so I'm happy to see spots like this one still representing. Pretty good food for a great price and fairly fast to order and receive our food. Been here a couple times and all the food I've tried has been pretty tasty for the price. Can't really complain with how big the portions are too! Usually I get the curry based dish with green beans, carrots and beef which has good thick hearty spicy sauce. I tried the cashew dish this time and it was a much lighter Thai sort of sweet sauce that didn't have the kick I was looking for. Wish I could have gotten a spicier dish. I really wanted to love this place, but unfortunately I did not. It's pretty small and they definitely were short staffed, but that wasn't a big deal. I really wanted Pad Thai, but this place had two different versions; a sweet one and a savory one. The sweet one was awful. It wasn't good at all and I wouldn't recommend it. I did also get some curry, which I did enjoy. The spring rolls were fine too. My friend got this savory peanut butter stir fry, which she enjoyed, but I did not like it. Wow- This Thai Food has to be the best in Milwaukee. Authentic, flavorful and spicey! While both the outside and inside of this place look a little "hole in the wall," the food is incredible. We went with 8 people and ordered 2 helpings of crab Rangoon's, 2 satays, and 2 papaya salads (one spice level 2 which was manageable, and one was spice level 3 which people struggled with here!) All of the food came out quickly and tasted delicious. While we were already feeling full each person also ordered an individual meal, and let me tell you- the portions are LARGE. There were nearly 6 take home boxes at the end of this!! Important things to note- 1. You add spice levels too all of your meals, 2 is manageable but I would say 3 had me in tears.. though I'm never the person ordering THE HOTTEST of hot food. 2. They serve beer and wine and its CHEAP! $3.75 for a glass of wine! 3. They typically have a wait during the week. It's a very small spot, so be ready to get there a little early before you're starving. This place is closed the rest of the month (august 2023) because they are on vacation, but this place is hands down the best Thai food you can find in Milwaukee. This is authentic in a way that is hard to find. They have had a very old woman coming for a long time who is the chef and she really knows what she is doing. You won't find pad Thai that tastes like theirs anywhere around the city. There is something they are using in the sauce that other places just don't have and once you taste it other pad Thai is really bad lol. They have an original pad Thai which is the one in an v referring to and then they have a "new pad Thai" which is more savory and not sweet.- that one I have not tried. The portions are extremely large. When I order take out at this place, whatever I end up getting i can eat three times and I'm not a a tiny eater . The curry is excellent and the mussamun is spot on. They use excellent curry paste and pound the chicken out until it is extremely tender and thin. Their Thai cold salads like beef larb, som tum, and namsod are REALLY GOOD and people new to Thai food world absolutely take the plunge and order one of those salads to try you will love it. The prices are not too bad, and right now because they only have take out, but the man who runs the restraint and takes the orders is always very happy, friendly, and the food comes really fast. Anytime I find someone asking about Thai food I tell them to go there. My husband never thought he liked any Asian type food he thought it was gross and all vegetables and weird spices but once I actually had him try some mussamun curry he fell in love to the point we learned to make this at home and went to the Thai grocery to get the same curry paste for it . First of all, very very nice and professional staff. I love that when you first walk in! They are very busy, however they seem to always keep a happy smile that you are there to dine with them. Also, they do give you the disclaimer early on, that your food wait time will be about 30-35mins, which to me, is quite the norm. I like that my food is prepared fresh and hot right out of the wok, when it's served, it does make a difference in taste. I ordered the Jungle Curry with Pork, and spring rolls with white rice. I dont know what they put in that Jungle Curry, but it does make me feel like climbing a tree and swinging from it, yelling out BOSSSSS CURRY! (Like Tarzarn did) That flavor profile of that curry lit my taste buds up and you wont be sorry. There was a hint of coconut that gives it a very nutty and smooth taste to compliment the spices from the curry. Even their sweet and sour sauce is delicious, it's made with real ingredients and not just a thick pink syrup. I've had 4 things off of their menu, and I was blown away.
