    Whole fish garlic sauce
    Viv P.

Got take out from here for an easy dinner and am very pleased. One aside, their current menu is on their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ThaiAKitchen/ ). The website link from the google page is very old and not accurate. - new pad thai - definitely more savory than sweet, but still not a traditional pad Thai that I expected. it was very soy sauce and sesame oil heavy. It wasn't bad, just not a pad thai. - laab with beef - still right on. I got the heat 4 (from 1 to 4) and it was too spicy. Still good. But I'd tone it down a bit next time. I've had it at other places and I could always take the heat for this dish but this place takes their heat seriously! - whole fried fish with garlic sauce. The fish came wrapped in foil, with sauce on the side. The sauce was good. Hubby liked it. I think I will try the ginger sauce next time. The fish was cooked perfectly. I asked for their smallest sized fish, and it was $22. It also came with a tie of stir fried cabbage+carrots. it looked bland, but surprised me with how good it tasted. It went really well with the fish. It really went well with the laab too. Totally doing this again! Minus the pad thai. previous review: - laab with beef - so full of flavor! it's in the salad section of the menu. I'm totally coming back here for some more, rather than venturing out to Kim's Thai in South Milwaukee, hoping that the owner is in a good mood there. - chicken wings - comes with volcano sauce on the side. The chicken was perfectly crispy inside and tender inside, but did not seem to have any seasoning. It was too bland to have by itself - hence the volcano sauce. I will ask for some hot sauce to go with it next time. I've also tried to dunk it in the pad Thai sauce and that helped a little too. - yellow curry - just a yellow curry. Nothing special, but quite good on its own. I do cook a pretty good yellow curry myself, though, so this is not a dish I would get next time. - pad thai - after asking the server what the difference between the regular and the "new" pad Thai, we were told that the "new" pad Thai was more flavorful and that the regular one, which is more traditional and sweet. We got the original, but it really wasn't quite the traditional pad Thai I'm used to. It certainly was sweet, but it was also kinda soupy with ketchup flavors... I've never had a pad Thai with so much sauce. Just from pictures of other yelpers, it looks like the "new" pad Thai doesn't have as much sauce... and I'd love to try that next time. Overall, very pleased and happy to find a new Thai joint. Hubby remembers the tomyongoong being good. I have no memories, but will try next time. With the Laab.

Some of the best Thai food I have ever had! Service was friendly and the food came out very fast. Only thing I would say is I couldn't get a hold of anyone to place a pickup order over the phone. Had meals for 3 days for a good price! Definitely going back soon!!

Ordered food for takeout over the phone, service was fast and the time estimate of ~30 minutes was accurate as the food was still hot when I picked it up. Portions are generous: my pad thai lasted me for three meals. It was a little saucier than I prefer but had good flavor with plenty of peanuts on top. The egg was in one big clump that was hard to discern from the chicken. The prices and hours online are not accurate, the prices have gone up in the past few years and are around $14 per noodle/curry dish which I find reasonable for the large portions.

If you are looking for take out for a girls night in, date night, or just are too lazy to make yourself look put together enough to go out to eat, look no further. Thai A Kitchen's take-out hit the spot! The portions are huge, the pad thai was 3 meals for me. All of the appetizers were delicious and the prices were very reasonable for all of the food that we got. The staff was very friendly over the phone and we received our food in a very timely manner with it being a friday night! I will definitely be ordering from here again soon.

Heard great things about Thai A Kitchen and have been wanting to try them forever. Ordered takeout over the phone on a Wednesday evening and had about a 35 minute wait. They are takeout only still, and the only part of the place that is open for customers to enter is a little vestibule area. It is a little tight if other customers are inside waiting their food. The man working the front that brought me the food was super upbeat and cheery. which brightened my day! The red curry and pad thai came as very generous portions. I got a spice level of 3 and it was delicious, spicy, but not too spicy to be enjoyable. My friend's pad thai was not that spicy at a spice level of 2. I also got a cup of tom kha soup was smaller than I had expected and looked pretty oily. It tasted decent although it wasn't the best that I've had. I would try their tom yum next time or just stick to the main dishes. Even though they seem to have increased their prices according to other reviews, I think you still get pretty good value with their giant portions -- my leftover red curry lasted me for 2 whole additional meals.

The red curry is some of the best I've ever had and the pad Thai noodles were cooked perfectly - no gummy, overcooked clump like you get at other takeout places. Can't wait to eat here again!

Good food but only takeout and I was not aware. he was able to rush an order for me. Neighborhood is fairly sketchy also. Lots of shops closed including restaurants but I was there on a Monday evening. I wouldn't feel comfortable there after dark. I had the red curry chicken which was delicious. Decent helping but I told him I was in a hotel and would need utensils. Would I be able to eat it out of the container... the response was yes but maybe something missed in translation. Tough to eat out of a tall container with a take-out spoon. Overall, a hole-in-the-wall place but good very good curry.

Ram Long Song! Sauteed veggies and cabbage with chicken and a peanut sauce. This is half of what was in the container!

Absolutely love this place, and so glad they are open again post-COVID! The name on the awning out front is actually "Thai A Kitchen", and if you didn't know what you were looking for (purple awning!), you might miss it as its tucked into the businesses along Oakland Ave. The staff are so nice and courteous, and the food is excellent. We've never tried a dish we didn't like! Some of the favorites and go-to orders in our household are the Thai spring rolls and the fresh rolls for appetizers. The Thai spring rolls are always crispy, and the dipping sauce isn't too sweet. Entree favorites are the Ram Long Song (that peanut sauce though!!) and the Thai Connection. Noodle dishes that are a must-try are the New Pad Thai and the Pad See Euw. You will always get asked the "spicy" level that you want, so it's nice to be able to customize if you like it hot or not! Everything is always fresh, and the price for what you receive is spot on. We almost always get a second meal with the leftovers too! Have we had to wait 1.5 hours for our food recently? Yes. Did they let us know that before we placed an order? Yes. Was it worth it? ABSOLUTELY! Call in your order in advance, they will always be honest about timing. Can't wait to keep ordering from Thai A Kitchen and trying their entire menu and supporting this awesome local, family run business!

Quaint place with friendly staff. Interior is dimly lighted, but lit enough to read the menu. Ambiance was very casual and laid back. Service was a tad slow for the amount of people in the restaurant. We ordered crab rangoons as an appetizer...I think the crab was missing because it strictly was eating cream cheese that was deep fried in a wonton wrapper. In a nutshell, the food was salty for every dish. I ordered the Nua Nam Tok, which I can truly appreciate that they have here because most places offer the laab/larp which is ground up meat. The flavor is spot on, minus the overkill on the salt. The pad thai was a disappointment. It reminded me of ramen noodles I'd cook at home without liquid. Something was off about the flavor. If they ask you about the spice, it's REAL here. I ordered medium and the spice lingered on my lips for a bit. Portion sizes are fairly large so there's enough to take home. I probably would not return.

    Thai Spring Rolls. Cool plate.

The greeting from the hostess was warm and friendly; she is an asset and really makes you feel welcome. Once we were seated and finally finished our struggle with what to order, we got our drinks. I had to go with the One Night in Bangkok again because it's just a really nuanced and complex mix of tangy, spicy and a hint of sweet. The smoke show also is impressive. My cousin tried the Berry-cation from the summer menu and it was perfect for her - very fresh and a little sweeter. Cousin-in-law got the Thai Goddess, with tomato, and it was very interesting - not quite fruity and not overly vegetal - very cool. Our food was amazing. The first several minutes were just a series of different people saying "Oh my God" as we tried different things. There was no weak dish. We enjoyed a good mix of seafood and meat dishes, that included Golden Fungi, Phuket Jor Pu, Namya Pu, Kurobuta Pork in Panang Curry Sauce, Hung Lay Short Ribs, the Samurai Signature Set, Kinnic Crisp Shell, Nam Prik Aon, Waygu A Rockfire, Mango Sticky Rice and a complementary birthday Yuzu Cheesecake. But luckily my husband quickly checked well before we were served and saw there were reservations available online, so he booked us one on the spot. We were then given two excuses, one by the bartender and a different one by the host as to why they couldn't honor the reservation: (1) there were no tables available for us (note the place was half empty, but we supposed maybe there were lots of reservations coming later--nope, the place was still half full by the time we left); (2) we had to make the reservations 30-40 minutes in advance and we didn't do that so even though we did have a reservation, they couldn't honor it because we made it too soon to the reservation time (WOW--complete BS). We were peeved but decided we should just enjoy our dinner. BUT as we were finishing up, about 5 couples came in WITHOUT a reservation and both the host and the bartender gave each couple the option to either sit at the bar or at a table. When I confronted the bartender about it, she claimed "they weren't supposed to do that." WHAT?! She literally just offered a couple a table without a reservation. What do you mean?! It was insulting. Anyway, we will absolutely NEVER come back here. The tip we left was solely for the kitchen staff who were hard at work and doing an honest job. Bartender and hosts are discriminatory and awful. Do NOT recommend if you are looking to be treated with respect. Would give zero stars if that were an option.

If you are celiac or gluten-free, I don't recommend ever eating here. While they have a dedicated gluten-free menu with options for changing things out, on two separate occasions (of the 4 times I've been there) they've made a mistake. It puts you in a challenging and uncomfortable situation when you are curious about something actually being gluten-free. I know for myself, you don't want to insinuate that you don't trust your server! My most recent visit there I had the shittake/vegetable Ramen with rice noodles. I explained that I can't have soy sauce because it contains wheat. I explained that if they have tamari that they could check if it is wheat free because I often can have tamari instead of soy sauce. I explained that I can't have anything that contains wheat. My server informed me that she would make sure that this was gluten-free, that the rice noodles would be replacing the Ramen noodles. While eating I was curious if the noodles were not gluten-free, and I was informed that they do seem to be rice noodles. We were also sure to order the tofu as steamed rather than fried so that it would not have cross-contamination. (Due to first glutened experience) Later that night and the following day I can report that what I ate was not in fact, rice noodles or gluten free, and I have been glutened. On a previous occasion, I ordered the fresh spring rolls with a sauce that I was informed was gluten-free with tofu. While already eating this, the server came over and informed me that the tofu was not gluten-free, and had been fried. I think that there may be some lack of understanding what gluten-free means and how it impacts people generally in most of the food service industry. I believe they did their best to try to accommodate. That being said if you are celiac or gluten intolerant, please steer clear! Very unfortunate because it was tasty. I understand that as someone who needs to eat gluten-free that I am taking a risk by eating at a restaurant that is not gluten-free forward. Although they have a dedicated allergy menu, two out of the four times I've eaten there it hasn't made a difference. Great restaurant, not great for celiac.

I completely agree that this isn't authentic chinese food, but approachable fusion that tries to keep it truthful to the flavors and presentation. The highlight of the meal was the peking duck, which they only have about 2 orders of a night. We snagged it immediately when we sat down and it can easily feed 4 people with the sides. The duck was juicy and cut into thick pieces, so it was more of a steak rather than a bao style that I am used to. Nevertheless, it was delicious and even warmed up well the next day. The green onion wraps were...strange in my opinion. They fell apart easily and didn't have the best flavor that complemented the duck. Overall, I would come back for the duck itself, but everything else was average or extra salty. Service was great and the staff are very attentive. Happy eating!

The vibe: It was packed at 7:15 PM on a Sunday, and they held firmly to our reservation time--which is understandable given the crowd. We took a nice stroll while waiting, so no harm done. Once seated, the service was excellent--attentive, prompt, and professional. The food: This is clearly high-end Americanized Chinese food, not authentic regional cuisine. If you go in expecting that, you'll have a better experience. The menu reads like a "greatest hits" collection--familiar dishes done with nicer ingredients and presentation. What worked well: Smashed Cucumber - A strong start. The cilantro and bean sprouts were exceptionally fresh, and the peanut finish added nice depth, though the sauce leaned a bit salty for my taste. Service and atmosphere - polished and efficient. What fell short for me: Wonton Soup - The wrappers were thicker than I prefer; I like a more delicate, translucent skin. The leek-based broth was pleasant, though. Salt & Pepper Cod - The seasoning was good, but the cod pieces were too thick, so the center remained bland. Halving the thickness would improve the texture. Mongolian Beef - Tender meat, but I wanted thicker cuts and larger onion pieces for more bite. It leaned a bit soggy for my preference. Rice Cake with Pork Belly - Pork belly was well-executed, but too many rice cakes overwhelmed the dish. The flavor leaned Korean (almost kimchi-like), which felt like a departure from the rest of the menu. Beef Chow Fun - Felt repetitive, using the same thin-sliced beef and bean sprouts as other dishes. I'd prefer charred broad rice noodlesthat are thin. These rice sticks were wide and thick,so like the cod, the center of the rice sticks were bland. I also preferred more eggs in this dish for variety. The overall pattern: Many dishes share similar ingredients and sauce profiles, which makes sense for a busy kitchen but does reduce variety across the meal. Bottom line: If you're looking for authentic, nuanced Chinese cooking, this probably isn't your spot. But if you want a polished, upscale version of familiar Chinese-American favorites in a great location, with reliable service, Dan Dan delivers that well. I personally wouldn't return, but I can see why it's popular--especially for the crowd that wants comfort food in a nicer setting.
