We needed an early start to our day, and this restaurant was open at 7am sharp as indicated on their website. We were seated immediatley and given the table of our choice. Coffee and water were served immediatley, and our waitress was cheery and attentive. We ordered the chef's special of chicken fried steak with hash browns, and it was cooked perfectly, including the extra crispy hash browns. Definitely recommend, and will return next time we are in town. read more

Oh my geez. So much to unpack regarding my most recent experience for Mother's Day Brunch. I don't live in the area. But came for a weekend getaway for Mother's Day. I haven't eaten at The Apple Farm in years. But its a SLO landmark right? I wish I had read the most recent reviews. Apparently it has changed ownership. My last visit, maybe 5 years ago, was for lunch with girlfriends and it was delicious. Remember Pea Soup Anderson's? And what it looked and felt like near the end? This one's feels, looks AND tastes alot like that. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Empty bakery cases. Maybe because of this event? Perhaps.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]No toilet paper or paper towels in bathroom. And I mean none. At the restaurant opening time![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Understandable near the end of the day or even midday. But this was right as they were opening. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Dirty carpets, baseboards and fixtures.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The issues at this place are not just food related. But management too. There's no quality control going on there. You would expect more from a new owner trying to make his name. Maybe understaffed for the amount of work that needs to be done? Brunch-We were some of the first ones through the door. Since it started at 11. I had to go back and check my ticket that I was required to purchase in advance to make sure I had my times right. It was fine. We planned ahead and had a snack before. It would have been nice, had it started at 9 although I don't think anytime this brunch had started would have helped. Clearly, this restaurant was not prepared for this event. Even as far as not even knowing where you were supposed to sit. Noone took you to your table.You just had to wander around looking for the number that was on your ticket. If you were one of the lucky ones, there was silverware on your table. Otherwise, you had to go hunting for it. There were no plates out at the buffet area. Until there were 35 people out there standing. Asking the same question. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everything was packed into a small patio area. Half of the food wasn't out yet.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The things that were out shouldn't have been... like the salads and fruit sitting in the direct sun. Or the gravy, that had no biscuits to go with it. They didn't hide the fact that they weren't baking their own desserts and just served the individually packaged ones from US Foods right on the tray. Come on now? In fairness the coffee cake was delicious! If you do happen to see it in the future, in the bakery case, just know, chances are, it wasn't baked from scratch. It's good though. The only breakfast meat was sliced ham. No bacon. No Sausage. The chicken dish was so dry. If you were even able to cut through it. We did manage to get a decent piece of salmon. The berries were good. Self served with a GIANT industrial size kitchen spoon. Smart move! People can't control themselves. So, you know that they were gone by the third person in line. The creme filled pancakes? Yah, no. Freezer boxed ones. No filling. Unfortunately you could see that they had gotten a late start. Time management or management in general was not there. It's like there was no direction on what staff was supposed to do. Staff were running back and forth, trying to manage the chaos. While carrying food. By 1130...all the food had been placed. The manager spent a lot of time walking around. Doing a lot of nothing and delegating to a already overwhelmed staff. Things he could have done himself. When he was told there was no toilet paper or paper towels in the bathroom he told the lady at the front desk, checking in people, to refresh the bathrooms. What? Seriously? Mother's Day brunch was a bust. I hope they can pull themselves back from this one since its a landmark restaurant in the area. But all things change with time. This might have to be another restaurant that goes down in flames. Or at the very least, stay away from the special brunches and focus on their daily food and management style. read more

It was cooked to perfection (medium) and served on a bed of green salsa that was flavorful without being overly spicy. This place was near our hotel in Saint Louis Obispo so we went and had some breakfasts. Quality/Quantity - Not sure why this place is so special for my daughter (and wife). I am assuming they both have had some GREAT memories here...? I know my wife used to come with her girl friends, etc. Anyways, another one of our traditions is to stop by and get some pies, pastries, etc. Sadly not today as they were closed for renovations. Atmosphere - Prior to the renovation, this was always a busy business. But good thing they have a separate area for to-go pies and pastries. As that was our go-to, pun intended. Plenty of parking. Actually today, like almost all the businesses we frequented, we were the only customers?!?! Note to self - A good time of the year for me to visit. Service - N/A. He said it was under new ownership so I guess we had assumed it could get any worst that it had prior. This is so sad Apple farm people wood rave about it in the 90's... Don't go- The new owners ripped the community off today. So many locals came to support them and enjoy mother day brunch only to be let down. My first visit to Apple Farm Restaurant left me with one main impression: this is a place that reopened before it was ready. Arrival & First Impressions The main entrance was blocked off with chairs and wood--no signage, no direction--so we ended up entering through the pastry shop. Once inside, we stood there for about five minutes waiting to be acknowledged because the only employee in sight was helping pastry customers. No host, no greeting--just confusion. That pretty much set the tone. Service Our server was actually kind and clearly trying, but he's working in a system that isn't functioning. Seated with no silverware, napkins, or place settings Coffee came with creamer... but no spoon Had to get up and ask for utensils Still waited after asking This wasn't a service issue--it felt like a process issue. Food Everything was edible. Nothing was good. Sourdough toast: one slice, dry, lukewarm, and honestly a little... tired Country fried steak: arrived already cut in half, which was odd and not very appetizing Flavor overall fell short. The one standout? The coffee. Full-bodied, classic diner style--the only thing that felt like it had a pulse. Cleanliness This is where it started to slip from disappointing into concerning. Dead flies in the window sill Cobwebs between the booth and window Bar towels stuffed under a door (never a great sign) Pastry case wasn't lit, so you could barely see what you were ordering These aren't small misses--they point to bigger issues. Décor & Atmosphere There are some genuinely beautiful elements here, like the Tiffany-style lamps. But they're competing with random farmhouse décor and then suddenly 90s-style pendant lights in the pastry area. It feels like three different design directions happening at once--and none of them finished. Odd Extras A tiny popcorn station covered in foil with a handwritten "ask your server" note A dachshund dining nearby (adorable, honestly one of the highlights) Overall Nothing was terrible. Nothing was good. Everything just felt... unfinished. My sister remembers this place being great years ago, and I believe her. But right now, it feels like a restaurant in limbo--charging full price for a half-complete experience. I'd consider coming back once the remodel is actually done. Garden Tea Experience - The setting was lovely, out on the patio on a beautiful spring day on the Central Coast. From what I understand the place is under new management/maybe ownership. I really do wish them success but I don't think they are quite ready to offer a tea experience, especially when BredaSLO offers the a tea experience for roughly the same price and have their tea time dialed in. My guess is Apple Farm is trying to offer something that they are not quite prepared for or have enough knowledge of it to make it a success. Following some tradition while offering something unique can be done but too many tea time stapled were a big miss and not so many hits. Our server, was very nice, but she seemed overwhelmed, maybe she is new, I can't hold that against anyone because it can take a little getting used to working in the service industry for some. My first suggestion for a better experience will start off with the tea offering, not a single traditional tea was offered; no Earl Grey, English Breakfast or Darjeeling. Which was not a deal breaker for me. But the break from tradition continued, none of the tea sandwiches had the crust cut off, the presentation was a little messy and we ended up missing one of the options that was part of the menu (I won't even mention that the traditional cucumber sandwich was nowhere to be seen, I just happen to enjoy that in my afternoon tea experiences). The scone course is traditionally the middle tier and pretty much the star of the show if you ask me. However, the scones were the size of a half dollar, placed on the sweets tier without clotted cream. The sweets tier had the baby scones, some banana bread but the middle tier again was all sweets. The tiers felt unbalanced, the presentation was messy and the serving tray was plastic to give insult to injury. I wish this place success in trying to offer a tea experience but there is much room for improvement. If you are in SLO, visit Breda for tea time. But if you are looking for fantastic, in my opinion, a better afternoon tea than Breda, try One Room Coffee in Lompoc. read more

Thanksgiving buffet 2025 was fine but nothing special. We're over 70, and it was the kind of old school restaurant food we would have gotten as children. Nothing really wrong with the food. Turkey was tender, mashed potatoes seemed fresh (the currently lumpy style), gravy was flavorful, dressing sort of gooey but tasted good, green beans crisp-tender. The apple pie filling was good, though the crust was tough. It was just not innovative. Then again, it was a traditional holiday meal, which may be just what many people want. To be fair, they were feeding a lot of people on a holiday via two block seatings and probably needed to to keep things simple, as seen in the three simple dessert choices of apple, cherry and pumpkin pie. They were a bit behind schedule in seating our second group but were considerate about it. The staff looked a little frazzled, struggling to keep the food stocked. They buffet line was very long with the entire seating group arriving at once. It would have been better to stagger arrivals and/or have two or more buffet areas. So, fine for what it is. If you're looking for a traditional Thanksgiving buffet, it could be just what you want. If you want more adventuresome or contemporary options, probably not your thing. That my honest review, but I can't conclude writing it on Thanksgiving Day without saying thank you to the staff for working so tirelessly on a holiday. My mom was so excited that we were going to the Apple Farm after she had a wonderful experience in the 1990's. Our experience was horrible. The coffee was weak and cold. The creamer was fake. We waited 30 minutes for cold breakfast. The bacon seemed like it had been previously cooked. The server forgot our silverware. The food did not come out together. The room was so cold I had to on my hood of my sweatshirt. When asked for one meal to be heated up the server did not come back for 5 or more Minutes with the microwaved burrito. My son moved back to Cal Poly this week & we decided to try something new for breakfast before I headed home. Can't say I would likely come back. We were seated in the back of the restaurant, which appeared to be pretty empty, and after looking at the sparse menu for 10 minutes we finally had a server greet us. The menu is not exciting & the food arrives looking like it came from a cafeteria & after breakfast was delivered it was impossible to find out server again. Not in the least worth the money paid. Ok- so I read through the most recent reviews and knew I was in for an interesting experience. Seems this place is under new management/ ownership and they are still trying to figure things out. 1- not enough staff to support busy times ( mornings, holidays, weekends) 2- there was only one server able to take orders on the iPad or device. This equates to multiple tables having to wait longer to be greeted, received and to place their order. 3. Welcome and warmth- the one waiter tried to do it all for every table - she needed help, and she needs to smile and express more pleasantries. 4. Repeat customers- I observed a lot of older customers who probably have been coming here for years because that's what they know and love and crave familiar and warmth. Please get to know them by name and ask about their life and family and greet them with familiarity when they return. 5) Food- not sure why but the food did come out like warm- Boarder line cold- please consider making sure everything brought out is hot and at the appropriate temperature. I ordered eggs over medium and apple sausages. Eggs were essentially cold and runny, sausages were hard and I only received 3/4 of one sausage. I recommend they prepare the sausages whole- not cut i to half of half which dries out the sausages whole. Good luck to the business and hope they get it right read more

We came hungry, we left hungry. My boyfriend and I were staying at the Apple Farm Inn for the long weekend and went to the restaurant for lunch yesterday afternoon. We were hoping for an easy, relaxing Saturday and planned to head to the pool afterward. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. No one came to our table at all. No greeting, no water, no drink order, nothing. By 12:43 PM, after waiting over 20 minutes without any acknowledgment, we decided to leave. During that time, we had already looked over the menu and were ready to order, we also had plenty of time to pick what restaurant we ended up at. I understand I could have gotten up to ask for service, but I didn't feel like I should have to. We also started to wonder: if it took this long just to be greeted, how long would it take to actually receive our food? This place was not busy, so maybe they just have a staffing issue. We ended up wasting time, but thankfully we were in San Luis Obispo, where there are plenty of phenomenal restaurants with much better service and better ratings. Anyways, the hotel receptionist told us the restaurant is under new management and no longer affiliated with the hotel. I had high hopes for Apple Farm's Mother's Day Buffet based on its longtime reputation, but it was a major disappointment. We paid a premium for tickets and left feeling embarrassed and ripped off--especially knowing we could have eaten far better for less money almost anywhere else in SLO. The service was essentially nonexistent. After being seated (in a different area than the one I selected when purchasing tickets), no server ever came to our table. Staff members stood together chatting and giggling loudly while guests helped themselves. No one cleared used plates, refilled drinks, or checked if we needed anything. The food quality matched the poor service. Items that should have been cold were warm, and hot dishes were barely room temperature. The short ribs were so overcooked they were impossible to cut with the provided plastic utensils. Even basic items like fruit were bland and warm. Overall, very little was appetizing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere didn't help. Two different music stations played simultaneously, with the louder one blasting depressing Muzak that perfectly fit the dated, tacky decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Despite being told tickets were selling out quickly, the dining room was nearly empty--only about five families total.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This experience was a complete letdown for our family on Mother's Day. Today I'm here with my good friends sawyer and Garret. We camped in morro bay and decided to go to slo for breakfast and this place did not disappoint. The service was impeccable. My friend sawyer is actually tipping 1k. Mr beast ahh. The ambiance is pretty cool. Lots of old people adds to the scenery. I got the coffee which was not the best but it got the job done. I also got the waffles and chicken. Solid 9.67 out of ten. I got some bad vibes driving through cal poly as a reminisced on my many sleepless nights. However, it was a nice trip. It's been quite a few years since we've been to Apple Farm, but it was always a stop when driving to So Cal. This was such a disappointment. You can tell the management has changed. Hardly anyone in the restaurant at peak lunch time. It used to be hard to get a table in there. The gift-shop is no longer there, now a small display of goods in the lobby. The menu has shrunk and the cornbread with honey butter is no longer a thing (and that's what we went there for). I don't see this place surviving. Gotta love the sign on the coffee maker saying Don't make coffee past 11:30. Shows how slow it is. read more
