OCCASION: Boyfriend and I just got to Denver, Colorado for vacation. Our place was close to this specific restaurant so we decided to try this place out because we were starving! ENVIRONMENT: Located at the corner next to Sprouts, Starbucks, and a gas station. There is not a lot of parking but there is enough. We went here when it was extremely empty. There was maybe 2 other parties in there? Seats and decorations are very old-school and country-like. Bathroom is a little disgusting and dirty. It is located outside in the back of the restaurant. FOOD: I got blueberry pancakes and my boyfriend got the tacos. Everything was eh. It was alright. Wasn't the best but it was good enough because we were starving. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great customer service. Immediately got seated and she noticed us when we first entered. Everyone is friendly! PRICE: Best thing about this place is the price. But you get what you paid for. Medicore food. OVERALL: Good enough if you're starving and have no other option because you can't survive without food for any longer. My brother and I really wanted a hamburger other than a fast food variety for a change.. we ended up at Apple ridge. The wait staff is friendly and helpful and we were immediately seated and given water. The orders took a few to get to us but that's fine since we weren't in a hurry and don't mind waiting for a good meal. The hamburgers were what we wanted, not overcooked and flavorful. The issue we had was with the French fries. The fries were plentiful but must of been old. They were tough and tasted like they had been around some time, as in old. Homemade pie sounded good so we split a banana cream slice. What a downer. This was one of the worst pies we ever had. So bland and the filling nearly opaque as if the pudding was nothing but water. I have always loved Apple Ridge and the employees are wonderful. A few of the waitresses are top notch. However I'm going to have to say goodbye to this old favorite as the last 3 times I was there, the food was less than satisfactory. Great green chili , but the bacon has come out very cold and tastes like it had been sitting all day and the potatoes taste funky. But again 5 stars to some of the waitresses that have been there for years. Some of the newer ones are a bit ehhh. But anyways, 3 strikes I'm outta here. read more

What a great view nooked right before the foothills in this charming corner stop with home made goodness. I was recommended to get the cinnamon roll and will be glad to compare it to some of my favorites! Got a piece of cherry pie to go for my husband so I hope that homemade slice puts a smile on his face too. It looks to stay pretty busy as it's a Wednesday 11am stop for me with a few minute wait. It's got an old school feel when you put your own name on a wait list. The mature crowd is always a good sign of knowing that the food is good so I'm glad I found this spot. read more

Less than one star. Used to be our go-to place for many years, but no longer. Today we were told to be seated at any clean table that we could find. My wife ordered eggs, bacon and biscuits and gravy. The bacon was burned black and inedible. The eggs were tepid, the biscuits tasted of bread mold and l am sure wallpaper paste would have had more flavor than the "gravy." When we politely approached the waitperson with our concerns, she informed us that "this is what you get when you order the bacon crispy." She then bare handedly removed the offending bacon, dropped some on the floor and returned to the kitchen. The edible bacon was returned several minutes after the meal was finished. My wife was feeling ill shortly after leaving the restaurant. I suffered food illness about six months ago after eating a green chili smothered burrito. I thought at the time the chili tasted "off." I just assumed that it was that my taste was "off" . . . guess not! read more

I've been eating at the Apple Ridge for many years. I suppose that makes me a 'regular.' I keep going back, not only from habit, but it is consistently good food at lower than average price, with good-sized portions. Lower than average price? I think that's achieved by a few measures, one being that they don't take credit cards- avoiding the 3% transaction fee the CC companies charge vendors. Another way: you have to sign yourself in (only when it's busy) instead of having a hostess/greeter on the payroll. And if you're new, and don't sign in when you walk in the door, any one of several people waiting will remind you. Good food. Consistently good food. Cooked to order and adjustments made when asked for something to be different... Crispy on the hash browns? No problem. Bread toasted lightly. Got it. Don't have to say it twice. Portion size: i've never left hungry. Actually, I have left wishing I could eat mrs... Try the breakfast burrito with chorizo. I've not watched them make the gravy, but I asked (because of someone else's review) and was assured that they make it on premises, fresh. I can believe that: it tastes like it. Boxed potatoes? No way! Honestly: I eat there at least 4 times a week - breakfast - as well as an occasional dinner. I could eat anywhere, and I have tried several of the local places over the past years. But after experiencing problems at other places, I've returned to Apple Ridge over and again. It's a diner, locally owned and run, that employs real people with real personalities. Perhaps some people prefer a big-box kind of place whose employees have pasted-on smiles with 15 pieces of flair.... That's okay. This is just a good place to get a meal. No frills, good food. Criticizing a place because its reality doesn't align with an expectation isn't real nice. I give Apple Ridge a good score because that's what I think of the place. You may think differently. That's okay. Hell, I may think differently some day. But for now... Well, I'll just keep going back. read more

I hesitate to even give this place the one star!!! Have driven by this place daily for almost a year now and finally decided to give it a try! Local business helps the local economy, right?? As I walked in the door with my family the first thing we notice is the hand written sign taped on the door that says they ONLY take checks and cash....as I scramble to see if I even have either of these items of currency on me, I am relieved to find one check in my purse as who in a debit card world carries cash anymore??? Once in the door we look around and you would think we were the elephant in the room as just about everyone there stopped eating long enough to glare at us! Sorry, we were not "regulars" and as two thirty-something adults with a 9 and 4 year old in tow we were clearly the youngest whipper snappers in the room!!! Apparently this puts everyone there in a bad mood... One waitress walking to another table basically snaps at us to find a seat on the other side of the room. So we find our booth in the corner by a window. The original waitress snapping at us comes over with two waters and some menus. (Two waters to share???) she makes some comment about the booth may not be big enough for us (as if the other ones were bigger). We assured her we were fine where we were! She takes our drink order and snaps at my son when he asked for EITHER a Coke or Pepsi "You mean Coke?". C'mon lady he is only 9 and didn't deserve that!! After she leaves another waitress comes over to assist us and brings our drinks! She was much nicer at least and probably the only nice thing about the whole experience! Now for the food... Hubby got a chicken fried steak that he apparently enjoyed! Our 4 year old son got pancakes that were alarmingly large for a child's size serving ....but he still managed to make his way through half the stack as if we starve him otherwise! I ordered a basic farmers breakfast which had bacon, eggs over easy, and French toast and some sort of potato. This shouldn't be a hard breakfast to make yet I ended up with what looked like half a package of very very crispy (aka BURNT) bacon and two eggs that were the equivalent of hard boiled flattened eggs!!! The potatoes had a lot of burnt crud on them and were sorta mashed blobs heated in a pan!!! My 9 year old son got the baked cod! What he got looked like frozen fish patties and tasted like they'd been in the freezer for about as long as the building has been standing at the corner! He could barely choke down one of those frozen slabs before deciding he was done!!! Paying by check was equally as weird as the rest of the experience as the lady at the cash register (the crabby lady that ordered us to a booth with a finger snap in the beginning) seemed annoyed that I was writing a check. Uh, your rule lady ... not mine!!! My overall impression of this local place was nonetheless a bad one! I am pretty tolerant about a lot of stuff but when just walking into a room makes your entire family feel uneasy and uncomfortable that's a bad sign!!! So many reasons for the deduction of stars from Apple Ridge Cafe. I had been going there for years and always really enjoyed it. Times have changed. The menu has also been changed and prices have doubled. Mashed potatoes are now coming out of a box with some strange yellow colored gravy also from a box. Apple Ridge up until 2011 would never have used junk from boxes. The food was always fresh and known for being homemade. They are now watering down the blue cheese salad dressing - ALOT! I almost threw up a little in my mouth when the waitress brought me this salad (which went from about $1.75 to about $3.75 since the last time I visited a couple of months earlier) - just iceberg lettuce with dressing that looked like water with a hue of white in it. Trust me - it tasted no better than it looked. On my next visit I experienced the menu change from hell and could find nothing I wanted to eat on the menu which went from 5 pages to 2. I asked for an egg sandwich that wasn't on the menu but something that they always made. I did receive it, but it was soaked in disgusting mayonaise also heavily watered down and I took literally 2 bites of it. The thing was oozing white water when I bit into it. I actually had to go into the ladies room because the sandwhich was really THAT unappetizing and grossed me out. BAD MISTAKE! The restroom (which you have to go outside and then back in the building to get to) was filthy, filthy and did I say FILTHY! I have never witnessed it looking or smelling like this before. That restroom has not seen a mop in a good 3-4 months and Crown Hill's Tower of Memories down the road would smell much better. The waitress which has waited on me for about 12 years or so decided she was not going to wait on me or ANYONE else that particular day. She slammed down my check the minute after the food was served (Something else they would never do here - they always want to try and sell you a piece of their incredible homemade coconut or apple pie) and forget about refills on your iced tea at Apple Ridge now with the new horrible rules, menu and service in place. The usually very friendly waitress walked by and turned her face when she saw I did not go for the horrible sandwich from hell! Crappy food, crappy service = crap tip - $2.00. I overheard the elderly couple talking in the next booth and the wife yelled at the husband "That waitress did not do shit this is ALL she is getting." Yes, it was the same 60 something, super, lazy and grumpy waitress that waited on me and they left her a dollar. This place used to be great - what are you guys thinking to ruin it as you have. You can just tell that they don't give a damn anymore. Food outta cans and boxes, watered down ice tea and salad dressing, lots of flies milling around, putrid bathroom, worn down, crabby, lazy waitresses - Apple Ridge Cafe has turned into a complete dump. I informed the also usually peppy and nice hostess at the register that I had been coming there for years and years and would never come back. Do you think she cared - NOOOOOOO - she just clacked on her gum like a total Flo and handed me back my change. I think it is very clear that she has been told this 100 times before since the menu change, the muck and grime have moved in and prices have doubled. Oh yeah, they also will bring you toast that looks like a burnt offering and if you ask them for non-burned toast that cheap, cheap owner has the waitress bark at you "that's just how our toaster is, nothing I can do about it." Well guess what - there are plenty of other places to eat in town and there is PLENTY I can do about that! (; Note to attractive, 30 something blond I see there waitressing sometimes - YOU are pretty, you are young, get outta that life sapping diner before they you end up one of them mean, jealous, old bitties you work with! Apple Ridge Cafe is my husband & I's favorite little restaurant. They have the best Chicken Fried Steak around. Almost everything I have ever eaten here has been good. I love to get their fresh cut fries and dip them in brown gravy! The waitresses are sassy and will joke and tease with you if it's not to crazy busy. It can get really crowded at lunch and breakfast on the weekends, but it's worth the wait. read more

I was not impressed with the service; in fact, I found it really unfriendly regardless if you're alone, with a partner, or in a family situation. This place even lacks the charm of a divey greasy spoon. If your Mom was a mediocre cook, you're just in no mood to make yourself a sandwich at home and/or if you're looking for a place that heaps up the Thousand Island on an iceberg mound like its 1972, then this is the place for you. read more

Can not say enough good things about the Apple Ridge Cafe, a classic Americian-style diner. Arguably the best pancakes I've ever had. Try the farmer's breakfast for $10 and you will never visit a blue-roofed diner again. Service is friendly, Renee our waitress was extremely accommodating and the food comes out really fast and piping hot. Prices are fair and the diner fare is excellent - the building is a bit dated and worn, but don't let that fool you for a moment. I'll take aged decor over jacked-up prices any day. Finally ventured off the breakfast menu (after eating there 2x in a week) and I can swear by the burgers too. read more

I had lunch here so I decided to try the breakfast and I am sad to say that me and my girlfriends biscuits and gravy were pretty gross!! She said the coffee was even bad. Sausage was ok and potatoes were bland. They charged me to substitute my eggs for a sausage Patty on top of it all. 21.00 bucks for one cup of coffee and two plates of nasty biscuits and gravy. Absolutely atrocious. My boyfriend and I went into Apple Ridge during breakfast and the service was beyond us. The woman who seated us just told us to go to the back and she'd be right with us. The waitress didn't come over for another ten minutes after that and was completely rude when she finally did take our orders. there's really nothing special about the food. Eggs are extremely slimy. Our waitress had neglected to write our total on our check so we figured it out on our own. When we went up to pay they overcharged us and the cashier was yelling over people and trying to count money at the same time. It was a mad house. Safe to say I won't be returning. read more

We've eaten here for years for their breakfast burritos; they're the best I've had (larger with lots of green chili on top). I sub the hamburger meat for sausage or chorizo. Be aware, this place has a culture to it; you go in and write your name on a piece of notebook paper, then wait to get your name called for seating. You can grab some coffee while you wait as it's always a 5-20 minute wait time. The waitresses are quick and to the point, so don't expect much talking. Then you pay up front- I think they only take cash. The restaurant is small & busy, and the bathrooms are around the corner on the SE side of the outside of the building and a bit older (it would be great if they updated them). The staff have been there a while and there are lots of regulars from the Wheat Ridge area. read more
