I appreciate the work that Laura and Gregg provided with my stove. Gregg came to my home in mid-June to remove the chrome pieces and burner elements and burner tops. Laura sent my burner tops to an outside vender to have the porcelain refinished. They told me it would take 4-6 weeks to have them re-finished, but it only took 5 weeks. They came back perfect. Excellent service! Have had our Wedgewood stove serviced a couple of times over the last 15 years and Greg is by far the best ever. Arrived on time - got right to work - and solved our problems efficiently. He offered lots of great (do-it-yourself) advise on maintenance and did lots of extra "tweaks" during the one hour service call. Walked us through a reset sequence over the phone. These people know their product (an antique O'Keefe and Merritt stove) so well, they were able to say, we think it might be this, let's try to reset it first. I called and or emailed several other places first and no one else had this diagnosis. So, in other words, they were the only ones that were correct. Super fantabulous job. Apple Stoves repairs and adjusts antique stoves - like my old Wedgewood. They have reasonable rates and REALLY know these stoves inside and out. I called another company out of the yellow pages initially and got ripped off, of course, then found these guys and BOY WAS I HAPPY!!! I was able to get an appointment the very next day, they had whatever parts I needed in stock, they explained everything about the stove to me and made sure I knew how to properly maintain it to avoid costly repairs. read more

If they had an amount of stars for being yelled at by the owner I would certainly choose that. I purchased a "restored" stove from Apple only to need repairs on it almost immediately. Subsequent repairmen have said that the stove was not restored at all and that interior items were corroded and never replaced. When I asked Apple about this the owner said, and I quote..."I'm selling the business so I really don't give a s**t". Customer service at its best. Do not use this business. read more

Unless you are wealthy and enjoy making it obvious just how well-off you are/flaunting a money- being- no- object attitude so that persons like Greg from Apple Stoves can use your display to their (his) advantage I caution you not to use this business...after many repeat visits/incomplete and inefficient repairs/adjustments/a lot of BS/lying and finally somewhat of a truth-telling "session" on his part the oven is mainly functioning at the proper temperature...but other reasons to avoid this business continue to manifest themselves, and had been mentioned to Greg some time ago...with feeble excuses/lies/BS excuses as his responses.... the enamel on the stove was obviously not refurbished, as it chips away at a mere glance, having particular problem areas ....the broiler tray's finish of a silvery metal is falling away and rusting as well...Greg said they all do that...another piece of nonsense as he knew there was no more money to be drained from me.....the finish on the stovetop burners look rusty as opposed to having been refurbished...and when i mentioned that to Greg he said they all look that way when they are not brand new......another lie.....I am disgusted with his lack of good business ethics and abundance of greed.....so, only very wealthy people should buy from Apple Stoves, and be prepared to be charged a great deal of money to (hopefully) have anything done properly...... do not trust this place of business.....under any circumstances.... read more

I haven't actually yet bought anything from Apple Stoves (but I'm going to). But I can attest to their personal, quick and honest attention to their business. I mistakenly ordered a part using PayPal. When I discovered this (my error) I contacted Apple Stoves, Laura in particular. She was most gracious and helpful, and refunded the payment immediately. I am very impressed. I own a huge 60" Garland commercial stove made for residential use. Two ovens, six burners, broiler, griddle and plate warmer. It was installed in my home brand new in November of 1992 by someone else. For 24 years, this stove has been fabulous while I watched of all my other appliances break down and have to be replaced and fixed over and over again. Well, after all of these years, first my left oven went out and then my right oven went out, ugh. Thanksgiving is almost here. Recognizing that not everyone can work on this stove, I did a search of the internet and found these people. They came out on Tuesday and fixed both ovens, calibrated them and fixed one of my stove top burners which was slow to light. The bill: $404.25. Very reasonable and I couldn't be happier. I am now ready for the Holidays. I will definitely call them again. read more

So far as I know, this is the only antique stove outfit in the Bay Area, so I guess it's a good thing that they're knowledgeable & reliable. Greg came by and repaired the 50s Occidental stove at my new house just today. He showed up on time, fixed the problem with the oven that I originally called him about, and serviced all of the basic parts (greased the knobs, cleaned out the burners, etc). He even showed me how to fix the problem with the oven myself should it happen again in the future, to save me the cost of another repair visit. It cost just over $200. I did have to wait several days until they were available, which is a bummer when your oven isn't working, but hopefully that's a sign that they're doing good business. read more

If these are the same people we bought our Wedgewood from some years ago, we love them. Business owner at the time was John Knott and they were located on MLK in Oakland. They refurbished the Wedgewood I chose. They added an automatic pilot light and switched the storage and heating side so the oven would not be next to my refrigerator. They hauled away the ugly old brown electric Kenmore stove and installed the white and chrome Wedgewood that I had chosen, doing all the gas work. It has been over 25 years. They came out once to fix the pilot light and another time referred someone who was great. So two repairs in 25 years. I fed a family of five, cooked Thanksgiving turkeys and baked many birthday cakes in that stove. It is a marvel and it makes me happy every time I look at it. read more

Apple Stoves literally saved me when I thought all hope was lost. Mice got inside our 1950's Wedgewood stove and peed in the stove insulation, meaning the whole house reeked of mouse pee when I turned the oven on. So gross! We got rid of the mice but the horrible smell in the stove remained. I called tons of stove repair companies in the Bay Area, and most of them refused to even try to re-insulate the stove, or quoted insane prices like $1k+ to do the job. I called Apple Stoves and within a week they sent someone to my house and did the job for an incredibly reasonable price, only a few hundred dollars plus the price of the (cheap) insulation. What a lifesaver. The technician was super nice and respectful, and these guys saved my stove. Call them today if you're in doubt! read more

Greg, Laura & Lamar were great to deal with. We acquired a double oven glass door vintage Wedgewood stove that was too big for our intended use. We traded it in on a completely refurbished 21.5 inch wide vintage Wedgewood! They removed a chipped side panel & replaced because it would have shown in our intended place. My wife happened to spy a black topped 21.5 inch and Laura suggested she could include that on our stove without charge! Great servicew as it was delivered as promised and they took away the trade-in as well. We love them! read more

Wow. I am so happy with the refurbished stove I just got from Apple Stoves. It took some time to get it refurbished, but well worth the wait. It is beautiful and I highly recommend anyone looking for a stove that will last a lifetime or more to go to Apple. Hauling it up my to my 3rd floor Victorian and taking away the old one was a Herculean task, but they did it with humor and clearly, they love what they are doing. I own 3 antique stoves and as you know, finding people to work on them and parts can be a challenge. I called apple and explained what was wrong with my stove. I asked their thoughts on which part they thought might be bad. I was not asking for an instruction manual or anything more than some basic trouble shooting so I could order the correct part. I was told by Apple Stoves they could not answer my questions because they made money doing repairs. The lady I spoke with was flat our rude. How dare I try to order the correct part the first time around. Well, since there are not many other repair facilities around and they wouldn't answer questions I thought I need the stove repaired and sent them photos and asked for a couple of different dates they could come out. I called a couple of days later to follow up. I left a message at 6:30 AM not expecting anyone to answer. I got a call back scolding me for leaving a message at 6:30. The call this time was from what I will assume was the original customer service queens husband. Really, scold me for following up and leaving a message!! He said they did not come into the office until 8:00 - okay by me. What surprised me was how he sounded. Either he had no sleep or was hung over. Certainly not the image I wanted to have present in my house. But again, not many places around so I kept my mouth shut and asked for a couple of days they were available. He said he would get back to me and never did. After not hearing back, I realized I had no confidence in their ability to stand behind their repairs - by the way, it was going to be an $1,100 repair (which includes a $110 hourly rate - wow the hourly rate for a stove is now more than my car repair!!). I wouldn't imagine most savvy business people would typically walk away from and $1,100 repair. Stay away from Apple stove. Well, I am glad they provided poor service because I looked again and found Buckeye Appliance. They charge $60 hr and traveled to Sacramento. They have been in business for 35 years. I met the owner Tom at my home and he was very genuine and professional. Nice guy and it cost me $733 for the same repair. Call Tom and Buckeye and stay away from the crusty people at Apple. Gabe totally repaired our 1930 Occidental stove and broiler in an hour. Fantastic work. If you are in the Bay Area and have a seriously older stove you want to keep working, keep out of a landfill, and with a look you want to keep in your vintage kitchen, these are the go-to folks to call. Greg, the service repairman, showed up at my house 15min before the 1hr appointment window. He tuned up my 1951 Wedgewood stove, calibrated the oven, greased the valves and checked for leaks in 2 hrs. Very prompt and professional. He was also instructional about lighting pilots, cleaning other parts, etc. on my own. I would definitely call Apple Stoves in the future!!! read more

! I too wish I'd read the filtered reviews before sending our 1950s Crown American to Apple. That was more than 4 months ago. We hoped to have our beloved six burner double oven workhorse reconditioned and overhauled after a fire almost gutted our house. Greg said he could do it and charged us $1500 up front. He told us it would be several weeks before our stove would be finished. When we called to see if the stove was ready as we are very close to moving back into our house (big sigh of relief) Greg informed my husband that our stove wouldn't be ready for at least another month, probably longer as he was backlogged and had not yet started on her.. We decided to retrieve our baby and figure out something else. When my husband went to get her Greg told him he should have charged us for SIX months rent but didn't" because he is not that kind of person." Wow. We had taken the stove out of a secure storeroom that we are still, as of this moment, paying rent on. I hope she still has all the parts she had when she went to Apple stoves read more

With little experience understanding how to repair and find parts for our stove, we called on Greg at Apple Stoves. Although their website seemed quite professional, I have to say I was extremely disappointed. Greg was nice enough. After a thorough discussion about our concerns, he said he could have our stove in full operation in 2 1/2 hours. Within 10 minutes, Greg nearly blew his face off (and my house) after I warned him there was a gas leak and that was our biggest concern....and you call yourself an expert?? To fix a chip in the porclain, he simply rubbed on some flat paint in a fat dent--gee thanks Greg. We certainly couldn't have done that ourselves. The broiler and oven were not fixed as he ran out of time ("fixing" the chip for 2 1/2 hours??). To put icing on the cake, he had the audacity to ask for only cash ($360 in cash) because "with the economy, it's been tough". WTF? So three hours later, the oven and broiler are not working but apparently we can use the 4 burners on top. Uhh...what about that funny smell?? I am reassured by Greg the gas leak is no longer an issue--as long as I don't use the oven. Long story short, I call PG & E the next day because I didn't believe Greg. I'm told by PG&E that any professional would have NEVER left our stove attached to a gas line and the pilots were left WAY too high and we could have seriously injured ourselves and our home. The gas line was capped then and there. I called Greg and explained the issue hoping he would redeem himself. He acknowledged his mistakes and said he would come back to correct the problem and finish the job. Then called a few days beforehand and cancelled. Thank god for PG&E's great service and we later found someone else in the Bay Area that was a true, honest professional! I DO NOT recommend this business...if you want to call it that. My advice is to call Reliable Stoves and ask for Mack--an O'Keefe Merritt genius! read more

I am a "Customer For Life". Greg has been to our home twice over the last 8 years to adjust and repair our 1940's Wedgewood Stove. Last time was to repair an oven door spring that just wore out. Greg and an associate of his came to our home, replaced the spring, and gave the stove and oven a general tune up, for a very reasonable price. Not only does Greg know what he is doing, charges a fair price, but his customer service sets the Bench Mark for all repair companies. At this service Greg was going to arrive late and called us well in advance to say that his appointment before us was going to take longer than planned, and would it still WORK FOR US for him to arrive later than scheduled. When has a repair company called at all or well in advance of a schedule appointment to forewarn you about an arrival delay and see if it will still work for YOU. Knowledgeable repair service, fair price, honesty and very customer service oriented, that is why we are a "Customer For Life" with Apple Stoves. read more
