This is the biggest Apple Store I've been to. Super high ceilings and two stories connected by the famous glass staircase. Downstairs appears to be device purchase related while upstairs is Genius Bar mostly. I went in with an iPhone 6s with touch disease. Checked in at the top of the stairs and directed to sit at the first tree. Yes, they have circular seating around several indoor trees. I had made a reservation the day before. After about 5-10 minutes Brett came to help me. His accurate and fast finger swiping on the iPad is demonstrative of his knowledge of Apple products and procedures. After explaining the phone issues, he immediately stated he could replace the phone with a brand new equal replacement phone for $149. This is the same cost as a screen he explained. Not a bad deal for a whole new phone with a 90 day warrantee. But bad on Apple for releasing a flawed product and still making the consumer pay. I inquired about trade in and costs of iPhone models to review my options, all of which he knew from the top of his head or was quick to look up. I ended up taking the replacement deal and now I have a working phone. Overall, great experience. read more

Even though we'd made an appointment and we live hundreds of miles away, the manager wouldn't let us in to get help from the Genius Bar because they claimed the appointment was for shopping! He didn't care that there is no Genius Bar within hundreds of miles from where I live, or that we'd tried to make a Genius Bar appointment and believed we'd had one. The only good part of the experience was a guy named "Klause". Klause tried to intercede with his boss. When that didn't work, he helped us by filing a report for the need of a repair and making sure that we have the reference number. I had explained that I can't get anyone at Apple in any location to answer the phone in under 2 hours on hold, and he said that that reference number would help curtail the wait time. He actually went out of his way to find a solution to a problem, which I have not found to be the case with the manager or other employees. I could tell that Klause wished he could help us more because he could see that we were between a rock and a hard place and that none of it was fair to us. Klause seemed to be the only person with integrity and compassion employed at Apple. He should be made manager of a Genius Bar store. I still wish that I had never bought an Apple product in the first place, but I'd hire Klause to run a buisness or to do customer service; he deserves commendation. read more

Not sure why there are so many poor reviews about this store. I went yesterday and had a pretty good experience. My first trip to the Apple store in Union Square was right after the grand opening a few months back. I was walking around the area and head some live music playing so decided to come check it out. First off, this place is beautiful. Like most Apple locations there are bright walls, clean lines and just a nice open/airy feel. This store in particular has a beautiful garden outback with lush greenery to look over while waiting at the 'genius bar.' I came in yesterday because my phone was having some audio issues. With about 500 staff members working at any given time I had no problem checking in with a guy downstairs who told me I could put down my number as a 'walk-in' appointment. You just give them your number and then can walk around a bit while waiting. I grabbed a coffee around the corner and by the time I was done I got a text saying I could check in for my appointment. Also, a great feature of this wait list is that you can request more time, for example if you decide to go grab food and you're not done yet you can text back with I need 30-60 more minutes, so it is very flexible. I quickly checked in to the genius bar and sat to wait for some assistance. I only waited about 5 minutes before an employee came to check on me and grab some info. A few more minutes later another employee came to check out the issues with my phone. Unfortunately, my phone was in pretty bad shape but the employee gave me an honest opinion and even said I could trade in my old phone to have credit towards buying a new one. So, a quick and painless trip to the apple store, a few hundred bucks later, and this girl got herself a new iPhone 7 (it was time for an upgrade - and this girl needs the camera quality for all those Yelp pics, right??) This is the first time to use apple store. My phone was having issues. After downloading the latest update, it seemed to fix one of the problems. The issue with my phone not being backed up for 24 weeks was not solved after 2 hours in the store! I will be getting a phone call from a TechPerson on Wednesday! I was really happy to get into the store i went to the new one in Cow Hollow district and they couldn't see me, so at Union Square I only waited 30 minutes. I sorta felt the young lady helping me was fairly new. Wished I could have corrected the back up issue. read more

I recently found a partial set of AirPods (case and just one AirPod) at work. I work at a bar and things get left all the time. After they failed to be picked up, I called in to ask about buying just one and made an appointment. The initial employee I spoke with was in process of helping me out and while explaining my situation, another employee who "overheard" our conversation came over and said they wouldn't be able to sell me an AirPod because I potentially stole it from a coworker. After feeling embarrassed and accused of theft I left and as much as I dislike the marina, I'll from now on be using that location and never returning to this one. I had some problems with an iMac purchase, 100% caused by me, and Keith was extremely helpful. His colleague was too, but I didn't get his name. Super nice guys who understood the problem right away, came up with a plan, and executed it as quickly as could be hoped for. They weren't even upset that I was late for my appointment because of yet another SF protest blocking the streets. The store was being constantly cleaned when I was there, so if you're paranoid about the virus, the store is upholding its promised cleaning procedures. read more

Got my laptop screen replaced here and everything went very smoothly. They said the repair would only take 48 hours but I got an email later that day that it was already done (total of just 7 hours). The one thing I wish they would provide is loaner laptops, but it's not Apple's policy to do that. The staff did everything they could to accommodate my laptop attachment syndrome: they suggested I buy an identical laptop while mine gets repaired. They showed me how to transfer all my data and I was able to keep working without missing a beat. When I pick up my laptop everything was fixed perfectly, it was covered under apple care, and I was able to return the other laptop for a full refund. Also, the store is probably the nicest store I've ever been in - huge windows facing the square, and i mean HUGE. 10/10 to the designer read more

Pro tip: if they tell you to come back in an hour to pick up your repaired phone, you might want to tack on an extra couple of hours to that. I came in to get my cracked iPhone screen repaired. They said to come back in an hour. I came back in 2 hours (I didn't want to do any waiting around in the store) and it was still not fixed. They were unsure why, they said they were still doing testing for some reason. I had to wait an additional 30 minutes. For what it's worth, the employees were very nice, and the space is pretty cool. read more

Half the staff at this store was unprofessional and rude. The other half was nice and helpful. I had ordered and paid for a new iPhone, had scheduled in store pickup and received confirmation that it was ready. I walk into the story and every apple person is busy. I see about 7 of them standing in a corner waiting for back room stock people to hand them a phone. I walk over to ask for direction and some prick staff member ignores me for 5 minutes while he has a convo with other staff members about nothing relevant. I single him out because he looks over at me several times with me trying to ask him a question and just continues ignoring. Finally he asks me what I need and I explain that I am there to pickup an iPhone. He looks annoyed and asks me why I am not waiting in line like everyone else. I had not seen a line and asked him to point me in the right direction. The line was on the side of the building away from the doors and was not visible when entering through the front of the building. I get in line and another apple person asks to see my confirmation email. After showing him, he tells me that I don't have to wait in that line since I have already made the purchase and I can just go inside and pick it up.... Back inside I go. Spend another 5 min trying to get the attention of another apple employee. Explain why I am there for a third time. They direct me to a new in store queue, this one seems to be the right one. I finally pick up the iPhone after waiting for another 20 min. I don't mind the waiting, it was busy, but the snarky attitudes from some of these employees and the all out unhelpful quick directions as though I am wasting their time is not appreciated. When I decided that I deserved, nay NEEDED, an iPod Touch, I hopped on the N and headed to ye old Apple Store. I don't like Union Square so much. It reminds me of a city, and I didn't move to San Francisco to live in a city. I moved here because it was close to Alcatraz. But I digress... I went on a Saturday night, thinking that the store would be less busy then. What I failed to consider is that there is no way a Mac-geek would rather spend his/her Saturday night than shooting the shit with Apple Store employees. The place was packed to the robotic gills with aforementioned geeks and Japanese tourists. Luckily being a female with no obvious physical deformities goes a long way at the Apple Store -- finding a helpful salesman was no prob. Finding two more was equally easy. I was actually asked for my "card" (which doesn't exist) before leaving the store -- which, I think, is a Mac-geek's way of asking a lady for her digits. Or maybe just her email. Anyway, I like the Apple Store despite the crowd and the geeks (I hope, by the way, that all of my geek-name-calling has thoroughly persuaded you that I am NOT a geek. I am AWEsome! I even wrote a computer program that calculated my awesomeness and the result was REALLY AWESOME). I am a sucker for aesthetics and Mac has that angle DOWN. I pity the fools who carry around their 300 pound Dells with internal fans blaring. My Mac is slick, sexy, and burns my lap because it has no internal fans. But it's worth it. And how! read more

I learned all about iTunes today! This year I am celebrating an accomplishment every day, and this is one of them. The other is that, if you wear enough layers, you actually can be warm in 45-degree weather. It turns out that the Apple Store has classes for customers. We all knew that, but listen to this: They are open to everyone now, and free! After working with a frustrating issue for a while, My Lady decided to go to a class and find out the official story about iTunes. We walked in, sat down in the theater, and were treated to an hour of the most entertaining lecture I have seen in months. Zack, while walking through the features, kept us entertained every minute. He let enough of his personal life, tastes, and passions out, that at the end of the lecture we felt as though we might call him a friend. Along the way, he let us know what was cool and new, which iPods could use which features, how to do interesting things easily and effortlessly, and of course we could buy anything we needed in the store. iTunes rents movies! This could blow Redbox right out of the water. OK, the problem My Lady was trying to solve stumped the Genius, too, but he gave us enough theory and pointers that we had some new ideas to tackle it. She also upgraded iTunes to the current version to gain access to some of the features we saw today. There is a funny phenomenon in high tech -- sometimes, if you know enough about a system, the problems that you thought you had just plain disappear. You know, when your system administrator is sitting at his desk in the morning, saying "Problem fixed," and you ask him how, and he doesn't know? "Things just started working sometime, and we really don't know what fixed it. Oh, well!" Thank you, Zack! I like this store, although I rarely buy anything here. I like Zack, and as a lecturer he is First Class. So the fifth star for Apple goes to the teacher. Kudos for hiring a real genius to be an Apple Genius. read more

The customer service at this Apple store is still the worse I've had the displeasure of experiencing! I had to take my fairly new iPhone in for diagnosis because of complaints of poor call quality from people I have been speaking with on my iPhone. I had already gone through Apple Care folks on the telephone and they advised that I take my iPhone to a Genus Bar at an Apple store. I got to this Apple store about 5 pm and the person who registered me said the only available appointment left for today was at 8:50 pm, the last appointment before the Genus Bar closes. I said I'd take it; the person said you'll have to wait nearly three (3) hours and discouraged me from taking that appointment. I took the appointment and asked if I could wait around in the off chance another appointment came up earlier. The person said no and to come back at 7:50 pm. The employees here must hate their jobs and customers!!!!!! I've encountered a rude product sale representative on prior visits asking about the specs on various iMacs and MBP! I hate the people who work here! Apple needs to send "professional" to this Bay Area flag ship store to help improve employee morale and responsiveness to customers, from the world over! So, I made another appoint at the Apple Chestnut store from my iPhone. I got an appointment for within an hour!!! The employees there are the coolest and nicest! I got to my appointment there a few minutes late; no problem -/ they helped me quickly and resolved my problem. This place is amazing. Great customer service, fast, prompt, good wifi, fantastic ambiance, and is something you should go see if you are in the area. Apple's over the phone tech support is also second to none along with their online chat. One of the best experiences I have had in a while and overall the best that I have had with technology which is quite the statement considering that I manage software development. Going to this place is like experiencing a bad date. Not that I go out on dates, but this is what a bad date would be like. It looks very bright, colorful and always packed with energy from outside but once you step inside, you hear the bad news. For instance, the sales people are NOT omnipresent like they appear to be. I asked a dude with glasses once about installing adobe indesign in my mac, and he told me all about indesign except how to install it. Most of the people you see from outside are NOT buying shit. They are either checking craigslist m4m on the computers, or listening to myspace bands on the ones that have speakers attached. The fucking Mozilla browser keeps crashing on my powerbook so I took the computer in to have it diagnosed. I was directed upstairs to a "genius bar" where beauty is deciphered by the size of the frontal lube of the brain. After coming back for three consecutive days and threatening a hunger strike, I eventually met with one of the genius bartenders: me: "I installed the new version of Mozilla, but it still keeps crashing everytime I open more than 5 tabs. What do you think is going on?" Genius : "Umm... let's see... your screen is dirty" me: "yea, sorry. I've been carrying it around too much. You can still see fine" Genius : "Do you live here in the city? I can't fucking afford rent in here man" me : "yea, I live in Hayes Valley. Do you think I should re-install the program? I can't lose all the information though" Genius : "Do you have a cigarette? I could really use one" Me : "yea, I guess. But, can you look at this thing first?" Genius : "Dude, these photos in this folder are hot. Is that your girlfriend?" I slowly start packing up. Genius : "Hey, you're that guy from Yelp. Who looks like Kumar. That's right. I'm an A.G. stalker. That girl is the salve on my paranoid thoughts regarding getting shanked, and listens to me when I cry about how people are so mean to me. She also grabs my ass when she's drunk, which is the highest compliment I've ever received because she's seen a LOT of ass. So when she said that her iPod went to wherever it is that iPods go to die, and that she needed to adopt a new one, I came with. We chatted about all you people for awhile, and then set about heckling the adorable geek named Wes who was assigned to help her. The poor child had no idea what he was getting into, but soon realized that it wouldn't be his usual trick when we started talking about iPod condoms and how her iPod's pee burned. Wes played with her thingy for awhile, deemed it to be inoperable (surprise, surprise), and gave her a new one. We then heckled him some more, and went on our merry little way. I finally joined the rest of the world and got myself an iPhone. I went over MLK weekend, and the store wasn't too busy. I was able to get to an associate right away, told him what I wanted, and he went to get it for me. Since I was already an AT&T customer, they were able to transfer all the contacts from my old phone to my new iPhone. I was super happy that I didn't have to sit there for hours and enter everything myself. The associate was very knowledgeable and friendly. The setup only took about 10-15 minutes, so I was able to get out of there and play with my new toy. I love my iPhone! Thanks, Apple!!!!! read more

I'm going to keep this simple like how Apple products claim to be... I'm in the market to buy a new laptop. Naturally the new 13 inch MacBook Pro is in the running (bigger doesn't always mean better folks)! Wanted to test drive one during my midday frolic around the city. Observations: 1. So uber crowded. At one point my head was spinning, like "Ahhh....get me out of here!!!" type of spinning. So many people oogling at my new soon to be toy. It grew to be a semi turnoff for me. Prepare to elbow your way past all the tourists checking their email to claim a computer. 2. Sales tax is sky high in the city than it is in other places in the bay. It's worth saving a couple benjamins by trekking out to other less crowded Apple stores in other parts of the the bay. 3. Expect to wait looooong for a purchase unless you already know what you want. To make things even faster, make a one-on-one appointment with an Apple associate on their website. Mission purchase MBP postponed. read more

So, the man that shares my bed these days is my macbook, Frank (yes I name my computer). For the most part, he is amazing and awesome and brings me everything I need, all while looking hot (much harder for boyfriends of the human variety) with one glaring exception: the godamn motherfucking MagSafe Adapter. Over the entire two months of my relationship with this machine, the power adapter is incredibly temperamental and will sometimes only charge if I play with it (totally like a dude, so I expect this) and then finally a few days ago, just stopped charging at all. I had no internet at home for two whole days. Do you understand this? Thankfully, I had the Nobel Prize Laureates/Real Housewives of Orange County and the brain surgeons at "The Hills" to keep me company but it was pretty devastating nonetheless. So, off I went to the much-hated genius bar. Super easy to get an online appointment and then you show up and you see your name on the screen, which was strangely, in Yelp-speak (#4: maria d.!). I tried to be cute with my tech support guy ("so, are you my genius for the evening?") and as usual with these geeks, they don't respond well to actual interaction. He communicated with me in grunts and monosyllabylles and then got me a new adapter, free of charge. While standing there waiting for him to come back, I got to listen to the woman next to me go on and on about her itunes woes, to have the "geniuses" shoot her down by telling her they don't support itunes. And then she re-phrased the question and asked again. And again. And again. You'd think that this woman's podcasts were akin to her getting a new organ. Come on, lady. She would not let up. She needed her books on tape. Anyway. Yes. Apple Store. Great. I love my macbook. I think I just need to buy 5 extra batteries. Another self indulgent review. Go ahead. De-fan me. read more

Always back up your files, your phone, your iPad, your laptop, and anything important that you can think of. Why do I always forget that? My phone died out of nowhere and of course I didn't back it up through my iTunes. Insurance will replace my phone...but...but...but...I need a back up of my phone. After few days of hoping my phone will come back to life, I decided for this store to take a look at it and perhaps they can do something about it. At first, I booked a one on one training to regain my knowledge and refresh stuff about iTunes. The five stars here goes to Janelle who really listened attentively and pay attention to my problems. She keeps on looking for solutions and keep on finding ways about my phone and back up issues. I learned a lot of new tricks from her. I felt so technologically-savvy now when it comes to iTunes, phone, and my Mac....right. (I hate to say that especially that my husband is a geeky guy). But Janelle wasn't able to bring back my phone from black of fame. Genius Bar did though to the tune of $110.00. Ouch! Oh well, I learned my lesson...again. Back up, back up, back up. BIG shout out to Branigan & Patrick for turning a 1-Star day into a 5-Star experience Not-So-Brief recap: Ordered 3GS online, to be *delivered to me* b/c I'm not a line-waiter. Apple cancelled the order w/ no forewarning or troubleshooting - Hmmmm Called Apple Cust Svc & was advised no one knew why the order was cancelled & best guess is that the systems timed out (Apple couldn't connect w/ AT&T to finalize the order) Then told they can't reinstate my order (i.e., get my phone this week as promised) & I need to place it all over again. Well, I don't want to wait another 2 weeks so it's off to the Apple Store.....not happy After my expected 1.5 hrs in line, the completely adorable Branigan takes me into the store, for my long awaited iPhone .......but the online order snafu effed up my "upgrade eligibility" & now there's an error message that won't allow the transaction to go through Branigan stayed w/ me for 2 HOURS while we called AT&T ( useless! ); Apple Support, his management, & many, many others. He remained happy & cheerful the entire time & was determined to get the issue resolved. Patrick joined in at this point & hooked us up w/ an internal AT&T contact they knew, to fix my upgrade eligibility as AT&T cust svc told us it would take 3+ days to process .....ah hem I had to go over to AT&T to fix it - Branigan offered to walk w/ me ( ! ) but I felt so badly for taking up so much of his time already that I declined his kind offer. Advised when I came back, to seek them out (no waiting in line all over again) and holding true to their word, Patrick grabbed me soon as he finished w/ his current person & took me through the phone setup, made sure I was activated, could place a call, receive email & nothing was left out! Soooooo after all these shenanigans, why would I consider this a 5-Star experience? It's all b/c of Branigan & Patrick! They didn't take "no" or "can't do" as an answer & now I'm the happy owner of my very 1st iPhone. I can only imagine what chaos & frustration I would *still* be going through w/ AT&T if they hadn't stepped in. Branigan & Patrick - you are rock stars! read more

This review is based on my 50+ visits to this store and the lack of customer service. I have never utilized the "Genius Bar" or anything like that. ***Note...if you want to do a social experiment, this would be the perfect place*** As stated, I have visited this store well over 50 times ever since it's grand opening in downtown San Francisco. During those 50 visits, I can honestly say, I've been asked whether I needed assistance only twice. I have purchased 5 IPODs, 1 Iphone, and various accessories from this particular store and ALL those purchases took my initiative to find the elusive sales associate to help me out. Case in point...during one visit, I had one mission, and that was to purchase a Macbook Pro, no questions asked. All I needed was someone to grab one for me. But guess whaaaaaaaaaaat?!? As I stood at the Macbook section for well over 25 minutes looking around to wave down a sales associate, all of them decided to help other people instead. Let me put some background into this story as well. I'm an Asian guy wearing a hoody. I would say I did not look stereotypically well off or perhaps I looked like I had no money. Nonetheless, after watching a few sales associates pass me by and chat with other "better dressed" individuals, I walked out. Unfortunately, this is one of the few all so similar stories for me in this particular store. I have walked into the Apple store at Stonestown and 90% of the time, they ask me whether I need help OR when I look at one of them, they come to me right away to ask me what's up. Words and phrases bandied about in this glass house of technology: agnosticism, turnkey, long pole in the tent, irons in the fire, deep dive and, my personal favorite, meatspace. Meatspace: the real, bleeding heart universe. It's like Muhammad Ali taking on Ray Kurzweil's MakerBot version of Ray Kurzweil when it comes to the question: what the hell is wrong with my iphone battery? Pardon the phrasing here... the ghost in the machine seems to really gum up the pipes of my mind, focusing myself more on efficiency and lifecycles than just trying to put the proverbial pen to page. So we read all the life hacking (yet another phrase (it's a poisonous python that cannot prevent their use!) columns on how to save battery life: my favourite... don't look at it. Second favourite: turn down the brightness so low you can't see it. Third runner-up: don't listen to anything on it. But then there are those deeper dive ones... don't update it to 7.0.1 ios, don't let any apps "background refresh," don't let any apps unnecessarily use "location services," and absolutely do not allow push notifications (thus, making yourself focus on what's going on in each app land to check in on your own). Well geniuses, none of that matters when you have a molehill of lint to be uncoiled from your charger port not allowing your phone to charge fully and unknowingly made the human "error" of putting the do not disturb sign on your phone which was maddeningly confusing situation of phone calls and messages being missed thinking the 3D Kurzweil is about to TKO Ali. But! As long as the ingenious geniuses behind the genius bar are the meatspace boxer paper clip-plucking out the lint pile, turning off the do not disturb setting and saying, yeah, just turn off all the location services... the new york times doesn't really need to know where you are, I have a good feeling I'm placing bets on the meatspace to win-place-and show. read more

I don't really care that much about the help i did or did not receive here or the torrential cascading rush of words that i did not understand about hard drive giga wiga and backupa macupa dotcomma call-a-genius. oh and then if you ask anything about *the genius* - apparently their tech repair people at some hellish constantly exposed to the-public-with-broken-computers counter are called *geniuses*- the salespeople get to coyly say "i wouldn't know, i'm not a genius". ugh you di'int jus say that, m'kay. oh and it's not a counter, it's a *genius bar*. i don't blame the salespeople for some marketing guy's cuteness seizure. i did develop a slight tic every time the salesperson who knew i was buying the computer looked at the guy with me and talked about what *she* needs. For the past 8 years or so I've been a huge fan of Apple and it's great products. I use them at work, in the shower, while I'm running, etc. Just recently my iphone cord was not responding for the 5TH TIME so I decided to take it in like the four other times and switch it out for a new cord. No employee walked up to me to ask me if I needed help and they instantly send me to the Genius Bar with such a minor issue. The past four times at the chestnut location I have been helped almost instantaneously without being escorted to the Genius Bar. So at the Genius Bar the attendant asked what the issue was and if they would be expecting me. Of course they weren't expecting me because I can't wait till Thursday for an appointment on a switch for a damn cord. He then says "Well I'm sorry but I can't help you tonight, you should have made an appointment online" I couldn't believe how rude he was and how they allowed me to just walk out without solving such a small issue. So here I am with 63% left of battery until Thursday because of unhelpful employees. This has changed a lot with my relationship with apple and I really did not appreciate it. read more

I just needed a loose connection fixed for my iphone screen. The genius told me it was broken and I needed to pay $140 dollars to replace my screen. I have officially been converted into a Mac user. And, I couldn't be happier! My experience buying my new MacBook Pro today at the Apple Store couldn't have been more relaxed, at ease and effective. I can identify with why some people might not like this particular Mac store since it is right in the heart of downtown and its ALWAYS crowded, but anyone who is dogging Mac in general is just plain WRONG! Even though it was very busy at the store today, I was able to get the attention of a store employee who assisted me in the buying process very quickly. He was educated, patient, very down to earth and was eager to help as well, offering useful tidbits of information as to how to get my rebate faster and how to utilize my student discount to its fullest. I was in and out of there with MacBook in hand after only about an hour. Highly recommended! Not to mention the great, sleek design and all the cool features of the store-including free tutorial sessions, free workshops on how to use your computer and of course the genius bar. I had a very terrible experience at the Union Square Apple Store in San Francisco. The sales department manager, a woman of European descent and curly hair was especially rude. She does not care about the customer. She also failed to accurately portray the situation to her colleagues, twisting several important details. I pre-ordered the iPhone 12 Pro and within about a week of receiving it, there was supposedly liquid damage inside even though I had never placed it anywhere near water. I explained the situation to Apple Support on the phone, and they said that I was still eligible to go exchange it, as I was still in the 14 day return policy. However, I was not met with the same response when I arrived at this store. The sales department manager (as mentioned above) claimed that they started counting the date by the order date. How is this fair if the phone had not come out yet and if the shipping itself takes 2-3 weeks? The technical support in the Genius Bar told us that the reason for the notification this was the phone, not me. But the manager had told her coworker that was not the case and that it was supposedly my fault, labeling it as "accidental water damage". Finally, there was a better manger, a man on the second floor who handled the situation and gave me a return. Employees such as the woman mentioned should be not allowed to work in such environments. She handled the situation poorly and did not seem to genuinely want to help fix the issue. I am very disappointed in this particular Apple store's customer service/sales departments. read more

Prepare to enter the Baptist Church of Apple. The free classes on how to use your apple computer (funny because it's supposed to be so much more "user friendly" than a PC and that's why you bought it) they actually ask you not to follow along on your computer because they're going to go too fast for that. The Q&A is brief and totally scripted and a question off the script will give you a referral back to the "Genius Bar" (the people who suggested this class to begin with) or a $99 fee for a year's worth of classes where they might or might not have time to answer your questions with or without condescension. Basically speaking, prepare to be condescended to if you have any problems at all using your Mac--you are the bigger problem definitely not the glorious heavenly Apple machine. There will be more than a whiff of sexism in said condescension and if you're an older female get ready for eye rolling. When a young genius suggests in addition to the $99 for classes, you pay to double your ram on a newish computer (that came with all the bells and whistles when you bought it) added ram NOT to run a new program - but simply to open file folders on your desktop without epic delays loading - and you yelp in surprise - you will be treated like an idiot. When you say that the same amount of ram and memory on a PC provides better engineering performance, prepare yourself for epic sarcastic eye rolling. "Ma'am I wouldn't know about that." Apple employees who don't really know about how PCs perform will still insist you're comparing Walmart to Gucci in complaining about your mac's performance. Apple has made a fortune turning computers into fashion accessories, and good for them. But why pay too dollar if your $2000 plus machine doesn't also perform well? If Gucci purses came with holes in them where your money fell out would you still buy one? If factory workers in china are still being treated badly (the best argument against Walmart is the way it treats its people) where is all that money for a Mac laptop going? These smug fanboy evangelists won't be able to tell you that. The sad thing is that I bought my first Mac in college and have almost cultishly loved apple products for years. My iphone is nearly my best friend. I'm typing this review on it now. And I would have even paid money to learn more about my computer. I just don't want to pay another hundred dollars to be preached to by people who don't seem to be either aware of or honest about the shortcomings (not only high price but comparative design flaws--flaws in user friendliness once promised and no longer delivered) of their own products. My experience with this Apple location has been bitter sweet. I first stopped at this Apple location, after making an appointment 2 days before, to have my battery replaced in my iPhone 5. Upon arrival, I was immediately told that they [this Apple store] did not have any of the iPhone 5 batteries in stock just yet and that I would be notified once they were in. The two employees helping me were very friendly and made the situation a little smoother, but I still feel like someone could've called or e-mailed me with this information. It would have saved me an hour drive to this store, since I live far from this Apple location. When I finally received an e-mail notification stating that the battery part was now in, they did not specify whether I needed to make an appointment or not to have my battery replaced. I called the number they provided me, allegedly for this same Apple location, but it took me straight to their phone system. The woman that helped me over the phone stated that I for sure needed to make an appointment instead of walking in and having it done. I went ahead and made another appointment to have my iPhone 5 battery replaced, at this same location, to hopefully avoid a long, unnecessary wait. The day of my appointment, which was a weekday, the Apple store was packed. I waited in line, just to be checked in at the genius bar. When I was finally checked in, I was told to sit at the desk, then was briefly told to wait else where. 15 minutes elapsed, after my scheduled appointment time, and no one was helping me or giving me the time of day. I was being flat out ignored. The first chance I got, I flagged down an employee and asked why I was re-directed elsewhere and was told to wait when I had a scheduled appointment time. I was again re-directed to another line and had to wait there. Apparently for the iPhone 5 battery replacement program, you do not need to make an appointment, according to the guy that helped me. I was pissed at that time, since I waited over 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment time only to find this out. The wait time was 3-4 hours to have my battery replaced, but since the guy saw I was upset from getting the run around and incorrect information over Apple's phone service, the manager went ahead and replaced my battery for me right then and there. After it was done, the guy practically threw my phone at me and told me that it was done. Once I walked out of the door, my iPhone froze. It wouldn't even let me turn it off, so I walked right back into the store and complained. Again, I had to wait in line, but they took me directly to the manager this time (after the workers clearly didn't know how to handle the situation and assumed that I lied about having an appointment time and the hassle I just went through). The manager fixed the problem for me and handled the manner in a professional way, unlike other employees working here. The moral to the story is, in regards to Apple, the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. I've been a fan and owner of Apple products for well over 10 years now. I hate to say it, but I've noticed the decline in quality through the years, including their repair service. My experience with this location has shown me that their organization system is in need of repair of it's own. Their phone system service are not aware of the standard procedures conducted in the store, which unfortunately for me, turned out to be a frustrating waste of time. I do not plan on returning to this Apple location for service anymore. read more

Unfortunately, I found out that the program I need to use for my law school exams requires--shudders--Windows. I mean come on, this is San Francisco, home of Apple products and all things that are shiny, glossy, and modern!! You'd think that of all places, schools out here would use programs that are compatible with Apple products. Anyway, my bitterness aside, I shelled out $200 for a copy of Windows Vista but once I got home, I couldn't figure out how to partition the hard drive to install it. Not wanting to screw up my aluminum macbook, I made an appointment with the Genius Bar to get some help. Once I got there, I found out that there must have been a glitch in my online reservation because my name wasn't showing up in the queue list. However, the guys there were very understanding and took my appointment anyway. Despite getting practically laughed out of the store and punched in the face for having a copy of Windows, the staff at the Genius Bar walked me step by step through the formatting and installation process. Although I didn't have a major computer problem like many of the people around me, the guys still took their time in helping me. Thank you for making my Snow Leopard purchase take 4 minutes and for emailing me the receipt. Thank you for giving me the Genius Bar service as a walk-in. Thank you for the AppleCare contract making my button dropped off after more than a year of use into a simple exchange for a new phone.
