My new pair of Beats Pro Wireless Earphones. I really like them.
    Michael G.

I've been having some bad juju with Customer Service, especially with the City, and looking at some of the Yelp reviews for Apple Walnut Street was not expecting anything great to happen. But today I came out on top and felt great. I got to the store about 15 minutes prior to my scheduled appointment which I completed online. First good sign was they had an appointment opening today and I didn't have to wait a few days. I was checked in rather quickly and advised to sit at the open table in the front. After an eight minute wait (I timed it) I was seen by my helper who was friendly and bubbly. I'm sorry I did not catch her name because she and most other staff were wearing masks. I gave her the lowdown on my earphones and she said that for Beats they send them out so this is what I was expecting. But upon a check of their system, for a second good thing for me, a pair was actually in the store which she said they usually don't carry. They got the new pair and was going to swap my bad one for the good one. Their computer said it was good to go. Then an evil turn of events...the computer changed its mind and said I had to send out the bad ones for repair. My helper checked with a couple of others including the Manager, and got approval to continue on. Unfortunately, the computer said, "Nope," and we were stuck. I asked if it was possible to do a full exchange since I did have AppleCare. After a new check (of course I was two days past the "official" last day to do this due to the warranty) with the Manager, approval was again given. This time, the computer said, "You may pass," and I received a brand new pair of Beats Pro Wireless Earphones and a new one-year AppleCare starting today. No charge for anything except my time in the god awful heat to get to the store. Thanks to my helpful staffer and Manager making my day a good one.

I had a few hours in between jobs so I popped in the Apple store on Walnut St to see if there were any classes. Lucky for me there was a photography class called Taking Selfies Worth Sharing. Even better I was the only the participant and Terry was an excellent presenter! Terry focused on my particular phone (an older model) He also gave me some tips on making my phone run better. He was patient and helpful. He also compared newer phones and refurbished models. There was absolutely no sales pressure. This store is spacious and well lit with lots of staff. Sometimes the waits are long if you need very specific assistance with problems. They'll text you when they're ready for you. The classes available are amazing. There was a photo walk happening where an Apple staff member actually takes you on a walk to learn how to take photos! If you're paying lots of money for an iPhone, check out these classes. Most are FREE!!

These folks are rude and destructive. They ruined my computer and expected me to pay for the damage. Don't go there!

Rob is simply the best--knowledgeable, patient, and reliable. He's been my go-to person for a quarter century, and there's a reason I keep coming back: he knows his stuff and genuinely cares about solving problems. Francis Cioffi, who was Rob's manager for many years, has also been incredibly helpful throughout the years. Both Rob and Francis have an encyclopedic knowledge of products and always take the time to find the right solution. This past Sunday really showcased what makes this team exceptional. I brought a friend in who was having issues with her two-month-old Acer Aspire. David Merritt was able to push through a replacement and arrange for the hard drive transfer. Francis made sure the hard drive got to tech support quickly so we wouldn't have to make multiple trips. Then Rob worked through the hard drive replacement and did extensive troubleshooting--nothing about this repair was straightforward, but he stuck with it until everything was working properly. The level of expertise, dedication, and customer care from Rob, Francis, and David is why the St. Davids Micro Center stands out. They don't just sell products--they build lasting relationships and truly support their customers. Highly recommend asking for any of these folks when you visit!

The wait was short, and the staff member who checked me in was incredibly kind and patient. I'll admit--I went in expecting the stereotypical grumpy tech experience, but that couldn't have been further from the truth. Even an older couple ahead of me was treated with care and patience as they asked questions about setting up their new device. It was genuinely impressive. After taking in my laptop, they let me know they'd need to order parts from Apple before proceeding. Since parts only ship on weekdays, they offered to keep me updated via my preferred method--text--which I really appreciated. Throughout the week, their communication was prompt and clear. I was notified as soon as the parts arrived and when new issues came up. That's how I learned that, in addition to my cracked screen, my battery also needed replacement. Via text, I was quoted around $426 for both repairs, which I agreed to, assuming it reflected the total cost for parts and labor. However, when I picked up my laptop yesterday, the final bill came out to over $800. The original ~$426 quote didn't seem to correspond to any of the line items on the receipt. Had I known the total would be nearly double, I likely wouldn't have moved forward with the repair. All that said, I truly appreciated the professionalism and attentiveness of the staff. I just wish the pricing had been more transparent and consistent. Here's hoping my now very expensive (and not-so-new) laptop lasts another 10 years to make it all feel worth it.

An external lightscribe DVD burner stopped working after a month, and a USB adapter to read hard drives externally never worked properly at all. The final straw for me was a visit a week ago when I needed a small wire from inside my laptop soldered, and they wanted $25 for the service. I said no way and I bought a soldering iron from Wal*Mart for $8 and did it myself. So, they seem to have gone downhill unfortunately. :(

The place I went to before was one of those places where it seemed like one guy had a very good idea on how to make money and all his friends were hanging out with him to see if they can get rich off of loitering around the owner. I remember standing outside of that location for a very long time just observing how business was done and in that hot summer afternoon the lights were off and there were about six people in that location but none of them were working they were laughing and joking around the lights were off probably to preserve power and it looked anything but inviting. I could have been wrong about this place but it didn't appear like a place of business but more like a social club. I then called a guy advertised on Yelp that made in-home visits on a Wednesday he said that he was out of town wouldn't be back until Saturday. I've told him I would wait. Eventually he ended up contacting me the following Wednesday which I didn't reply to and he proceeded to contact me again on Friday to which I responded and said that I know longer needed his help. So here I am at University Micro Center computers and laptops. My first impression of this place was that well the lights were on so that was a good sign. I then thought this place is highly cluttered but I'm sure the people that work here know where everything is. I needed my hard drive replaced and was told that first they needed to check my old hard drive to see if it was functioning and after checking it the same day they confirmed that it was dead. After agreeing on the price for a new hard drive installation I received my computer the next day. I installed the operating system myself and was happy to have my computer working again how it used to. I wasn't even charged for labor because I was a new customer. After that they I've taken several people here in search of computers and various parts no longer carried buy big chain stores. When I went there were three people working there there was an Asian man that appeared to be the owner that had the stereotypical owner look up sitting behind a desk looking to see that everyone was doing what they were supposed to. There was a very impressive Asian woman behind the counter that seemed that she can handle any repair and a black man in the back really focused on fixing computers. I liked seeing all of this. Pros: Fair price. I was admitted entrance past their hours of operation on a Friday evening. Diligent workers. It feels like it's a garage for computer parts. The woman that works there comes dressed professionally in a business suit, and takes her job very seriously. Cons: that they are not bigger. The name on Yelp is not the same name on there awning.
