I haven't been to an Applebees in more than 25 years. There's a reason why; the food is average at best, usually below average. It's your typical Americana restaurant with a decent menu to choose from, endless fountain drinks or tea, a bar with plenty to watch on the tvs, and you're going knowing what you're getting. We were in town for a funeral and wanted to get dinner with some family that also came into town. They quickly seated us, although we told them 13 and they gave us two booths. Once my brother and family arrived they did accommodate them with some small tables nearby. The service was the best part. The waitstaff were friendly and helpful. A couple of orders were either incorrectly entered or not made correctly (chicken quesadillas were missing the chicken) but they were fast to apologize and adjust the bill. I ordered the 8oz sirloin which came with 2 sides. Broccoli and mashed potatoes. It was actually better than I expected. My son ordered a bacon cheeseburger and it was severely lacking in bacon. The waitress brought back drinks regularly and overall it was a decent experience. There are somewhat limited choices in Alamogordo and this was not disappointing. read more

Bruh!! We came to enjoy a great time eating out and sadly we were extremely disappointed!!! We arrived and got seated around 6:10pm, had a selection to eat around 6:18pm, got passed by 2 waitresses 2 separate times, at 6:38pm we asked for assistance from the hostess to see if there was a waitress on duty in our area? She said yes I'll go ask, then went to the restroom and never returned to verify we would be expecting a server or anything. We sat down for almost 40 minutes wondering what we were supposed to do, we even wondered if we did something wrong to be neglected. I wondered if it was what we were wearing, or maybe if we smelled, or perhaps it was just the way I was looking but, my wife and son both confirmed we smelled great, looked great and were extremely pleasant. And so this is something that the staff and manager on duty truly need to be more mindful of customers needs in a customer first occupation. Do better Sunday evening staff!! On to Chilis we went!! We went here for lunch while visiting Alamogordo. The host & waitress were both so nice. We were seated quickly & the food arrived quickly . The restaurant was clean. We ordered the chicken wonton tacos for an appetizer this was delicious . It has an Asian chicken with a cabbage slaw that is very flavorful the sauce is really good The wonton shell is crispy . I recommend it . I got the Asian chicken salad with crispy chicken . This is really good & the serving size is big . It comes with a breadstick . The salad was fresh & crisp . My daughter got the quesadilla burger . This was really good . The burger was cooked perfect . It came with fries & is really filling . The have Pepsi products . Don't even bother stopping here, the service is terrible!! The Bartender staff acts as if she's doing you a favor. I sat at the bar for about five minutes before being approached only to be told to me and she standby. Proceeded to serve other people then begin cleaning all the countertops, picking up glasses and stuff, all the while I'm looking at her like...lady I'm right here. The bartender then proceeds to ask the patron if they need anything and an older couple who was also sitting at the bar tells her, "go ahead and serve him he's been here for a while" and she says I'll get him in a minute so I got up and left. I went next-door to Chili's was and I was greeted at door, and I placed my order with a bartender before I even sat down. That's how good their service was compared to Applebee's. My husband ordered 12 oz Ribeye which was excellent! Looked bigger than 12oz so I asked my husband to cut in the center to see how doneness was, and that was perfectly cooked and no much fat and delicious! I ordered Oriental Chicken Salad as many reviews said good. That was good, though menu didn't have choice of fried or grilled chicken so I got fried. On the menu, wine got prices but beer didn't. Isn't it funny? So I asked our server if all beer were same price, she said "I have no idea!" as she was 2nd day of training. When we were leaving manager lady (I assume) asked how the food was, and I said I wish you had grilled chicken for Oriental Chicken. She said "Oh we have grilled chicken." Yo. COVID has made things SUPER weird for businesses and being in public in general! Take this next scenario, for example. As I walk into the ever-so-humble and quaintly familiar domicile that is known as Applebee's, I am promptly grilled by the hostess for my name, phone number, email address, last time I traveled outside this state, whether or not I'm displaying flu-like symptoms, blood and urine samples. I made those last two things up, but it gives you some idea of the current state of things. Thing is...I can genuinely applaud this establishment for taking the proper precautions during these difficult and turbulent times and putting most people's mind at ease. I am also additionally pleased to report that I did not see any cases of customers sporting that ever-so-annoying "chin diaper". Yeah. You all know what I'm talking about. Look, if you've been to one Applebee's, you've been to them all. The food is almost always the same. The question is: how good was the service? Splendid. Ol' girl was on her game. I only wish she weren't wearing a mask (briefly) so I could see how pretty her smile must have been. But...no matter. I still left her a good tip. If only the food had been as stellar. I decided to give the bourbon street steak another chance. But since I knew this was a lower quality cut of steak, I decided to break personal protocol and ordered it mid-rare as opposed to my usual medium. Eh...I'm not sure these "chefs" know what mid-rare is. This thing came out looking (and tasting) more like medium. Which is not to say that it was totally inedible. But it WAS kinda chewy like beef jerky. If you ask me now, I couldn't tell you what I was even expecting. They do a different thing with sides now. They let you choose any two, apparently. I probably could have tried their mac n' cheese thing. But....then I came to my senses, remembered where I was eating, and stuck with the mashed potatoes. They were okay. At the end of the day, it's an Applebee's, ladies and gentlemen. Nothing worth writing home about. I don't think I've ever rated a single one of these places above 3 stars. They blamed another group for taking out table. Said the group had been there for fours hours already with no intentions of leaving soon. I tried the curb side pick up tonight for a stay in date night. I was so desperately disappointed!!!! We also bought a gallon of sweet tea and a gallon of lemonade, they apparently were out of the bags and chose to give us 4 large ICED sweet teas and 4 large ICED lemonades!!!!! That is absolutely ridiculous. My drinks are completely watered down and disgusting!!!! Why was I not called??? Consulted or at least given an option???? Singularly the worst meals we've had in a long time. Ordered the Bourbon Street chicken and shrimp duo for $32. Three chicken strips covered in a sickly sweet sauce and an Alfredo sauce over noodles that was supposed to contain shrimp. None were found. The duo was a steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli - steak was dry and lukewarm while the potatoes and broccoli were cold. So we're fairly regular at this store in Alamogordo. A lot of the time, food and service is pretty good. But without fail, if C#*"e is the server, both are subpar. Today we showed up at 3:15. There were exactly 7 tables filled. Right off the bat we were greeted with attitude. "It's gonna be a while folks!" We were the only two at the bar. It took nearly 49 minutes to get our food, it was luke-warm and fries were limp-cold. Service was not good except for her friends, where she spent all of her time. Now I'm not blaming her fully. This is half a$$ management! Zero operational oversight. I was told by another server that they had been working 16 hours hours on Saturdays. Try Chili's or BBQ for better service. read more

Friday evening with special friend, She loved her Asian Chicken Salad, I had the very delish Cheesburger with friens, Appitizer of the Spinach Cheese dip and chips. all for 25.75..This price included two non alcohol drinks. Shout out to our server Jose for being super attentive being our server. Definitely makes the dining experience a lot more enjoyable when you have a great server. Jose made sure to touch all the tables around in our area including ours multiple times and made sure everyone was taken care of. My wife and I got the 4-cheese pasta with honey pepper chicken and it was pretty good. The honey pepper sauce was a little too sweet for me but the 4-cheese sauce tasted just right. Pasta was cooked al-dente the way pasta should be cooked. Overall not bad of a dish. For desert, we had the chocolate molten lava cake with vanilla ice-cream. Fire. Our server dressed it up to where it looked better than the menu picture. Definitely recommend applebees to change it to the way he made it. We came in at a somewhat busy time, wasn't too loud, and was able to have conversation without projecting as much. If I could give them less then one star I would. I ordered a corona margarita and they didn't have it, and that was no problem. Then, I ordered a jack and coke with lime instead and it came out flat. I tasted it to make sure but I knew because there were no bubbles at all. It was completely flat for sure. But I'm not that impatient, so I thought no biggie, I'll send it back and get another and let them know it's flat. Guess what another one came back exactly the same. I'm almost certain they gave me the same drink. Finally I ordered a lager because I knew it was good since my gf had one. For dinner I ordered the Parmesan steak and shrimp. After about an hour of hanging around waiting for the food. The steak came out with no shrimp and it was cold. They told me that the shrimp was out after cooking the meal. By now I've lost my patience. Between the horrible drinks the waisted time, and the entree being served poorly and missing ingredients I have decided I am never coming here again and I'd suggest never wasting your time here. Normally a decent place to go for fresh steaks, everything else is frozen and put in a microwave. Ordered a steak a classic medium rare. Came back medium well. I returned it asking again for a medium rare. They brought me back the fattiest pice of steak they could find. They asked me to cut open the steak while they stood there watching, which they should have done the first time. I had to walk my first steak to the kitchen because no one checked on me. The second steak was better, closer to medium than medium rare. But I didn't want to sit around for round three and risk someone spit in my food. Of the 12oz. It was empty so we were greeted and seated promptly. Everything started great with our server promptly taking our drink orders and bringing them quickly. Then it all fell off the rails. 20 minutes after our drinks were served, no refills. When we finally got our food, they brought it all out "family" style and so we had to divvy up whose wings were whose. Manager gave a slight attitude when asked for plates but no big deal.....still NO REFILLS! I was facing the other way at the table but one of my guys saw our server constantly hanging around the bar watching trivia since it was trivia night. I drink slow so by the most of our group had finally got refills but I had to flag down on of the other servers to get our server to get me a refill. We all only got two refills in the two hours we were there. Also, the wings were cold and dry but we had a long day so we just ate it with no complaints. Here's the icing on the cake. Our server never asked and just assumed we would be on one ticket so we asked him to separate it and one of my guys brought up military discount. He comes back with the tickets and say he can't give us military discount on separate tickets!!! Never in my entire military career have I been anywhere that will not put military discount or any other discount on separate tickets. I can't even remember the last time I haven't left a tip but that night was the most pitiful service I've had in years!! I remind you that this was a Tuesday night and very few people were there and our server only had two tables. We ate at the Applebees in El Paso a few days before and I can't count how many times our server was at our table refilling our drinks and asking us how we were doing. Basic stuff here folks. I hate not leaving a tip and it took everything in me to not do it but lying about the discount was crazy and I most likely would've left him 20% BEFORE the discount like I always do anyway. My wife and I just arrived in town and decided to eat at Applebee's. Our waitress was very nice but poorly trailed. We asked for a house wine and they were out. We asked for bread sticks with our salad they were out, the table next to us asked for boneless wings, they were out. If you plan on eating hear the food is good but plan on not getting everything on the menu. The Manager/Owner has no excuse for not paying attention to this other then they can charge the same amount for a entree with less food Suggestions bring your own bread, own boneless wings and your own wine read more

This is (seriously) one of the BEST restaurants in Alamogordo & the only good restaurant that serves drinks too! For a chain restaurant this is unheard of, but Alamogordo is pretty small. I am gobsmacked that Chili's has a higher rating!!! I have been to this Chili's several times & even wrote a good review for them when I first got to town, and while my service (at the bar only) has always been pretty good-the food pales in comparison to Applebee's & it often smells of garbage in there-for some reason. Back to Applebee's-the service (again at the bar) is good with Abriana being OUTSTANDING! Always in a good mood, more than efficient-she truly shines & is exceptional at what she does. My drinks are spot on & she handles any request, no matter how big or small, with a genuine, dazzling smile. She makes you feel like a member of her family. I see this in all her interactions with other patrons. She also has lots of great food suggestions-she never steers me wrong. Cannot say enough good things about her. On to the food-brew pub pretzels are really good. As are the wonton tacos-I have never tried the chicken but the steak ones are SO good-I don't know what they marinate the steak in, but I could drink it. They are crunchy, crisp fried wonton shells so they tend to fall apart, but I don't mind because the flavor is so amazing-just have a fork ready! I also have also enjoyed the chips and salsa, the crispy brewhouse chicken (if you are in the mood for comfort food), the chicken fajita rollup, the all-in triple bacon burger, their fries (both regular & sweet potato-get a side of blue cheese with the regular or a side of the maple flavored cream cheese sauce with the sweet potato) & the butter pecan blondie. I am sure they have other great items, but this is what I have tried personally and liked. If you are in Alamogordo, do not wait as long as I did to give it a chance, because it is a chain.
