We had a long day on I-25. We were exhausted but from the instant we were seated at Applebee's our server, Sandy R, put a smile on our faces! What a breath of fresh air. She was delightful and efficient. We got our beverages very quickly and ordered our food when she brought them. The food was served quickly, and it was hot and tasty. Me and my family came here for my moms birthday and I will never return to another Applebee's. The service was absolutely horrible, we had to wait 10+ minutes for refills on drinks. The food was mediocre, pictures made all the food look better then it did when it came out. Ordered the 4 cheese pasta and there was no cheese on it at all and the sauce was runny. My husband is retired military, he asked for a military discount and they took off $1 from our bill. Got a late night dinner order to go here on a event road trip. Menu, prices, and service were on par with what you expect from this chain, but location was cleaner and friendlier than expected. Bf went in and placed order to go, and was invited to sit at the bar and enjoy a beer during the wait, which he did. Order was packed up well with all necessary condiments as well as extra cutlery and napkins. Ordered the fiesta lime chicken and a bacon cheese burger with fries- two of the few items not made in a microwave here. The chicken was great and the burger was just okay- it was actually slightly overlooked, but the bacon was plentiful. The chicken dish though, was flavorful and I would definitely order it again. The accompanying sauce was super tasty and the chicken itself was moist and flavorful, even though the tortilla strips were soggy due to the steam trapped in the to go box. read more

Applebee's is an average institution and this location is particular middling. The décor lacks any semblance of authenticity or originality; you walk in the door and this could be any Applebee's, anywhere. I came here late last night with my friends after the Snoop Dogg concert to get food and drinks. The drinks listed on the table Rolodex initially seemed affordable, until we learned that the $2 mugs of beer were 10 oz. glasses, and that the $1 house margaritas were essentially shots of sour mix. Not much going on in the drinks department here. We ordered some appetizers to take advantage of the late night 2 for 1 deals. The sampler plate was on the small side, given its price, but the dip was well received. The pretzels were a highlight, served with a tasty cheese sauce and tastier honey mustard sauce. The chicken quesadilla was small, so small as to almost disappear, with none of the contents that a New Mexican would expect. The nachos were similar neutered, neither traditional nor particularly exciting. So the food and drinks weren't great, and we chose not to pay the $1.99 for access to the games on our table's tablet. Still, our waitress Jennifer was terrific. She clearly had a lot of work to do but still ensured that we received great service. At least one of those three stars is just for her. read more

The urinal has been out of service for a week, there's yellow piss in it. Floors wet with piss, it's obvious they have No bath room maintenance. We come here daily to have a beer or 2. A good balanced meal at a reasonable price in a comfortable place. I don't always eat a balanced diet while traveling, but I've been to this Applebee's near ABQ twice now and both times got a healthy balanced meal, with plenty of vegetables. It's not haute cuisine and they're not going to appear in any foodie magazines, but it's a good meal, no surprises or weird ingredients, and the salad and vegetables are fresh. I'm docking them a star because my steak was awfully tough and chewy. I'm not sure it's really "top sirloin" as the menu promised. On my previous visit I had the ribs, which were better, so perhaps they deserve 4.5 stars. read more

Come in for the Express menu if you come in for lunch and you want to be in and out in 12 minutes what a nice many to choose from it will work for you. Wow, I can't remember when I've had such an all-around horrible dining experience. My flight had been cancelled and I was stuck at a little hotel, and the front desk guy suggested Applebee's as a restaurant that the shuttle would drop us off that was open and had a bar. I made friends with two of my fellow passengers and we decided to dine together. We ordered drinks and they wouldn't serve one of the people in our party. The reason? He had a vertical ID card. In Louisiana, they issue horizontal driver's licenses and vertical ID cards for those that don't drive. The manager came over and said he was bound by state law on this, and it was to cut down on DUIs. New Mexico state law actually says that an ID card or driver's license issued by another state is a valid form of identification, regardless if it is vertical or horizontal. Also, how is not accepting an ID going to cut down on DUIs? This would make sense if it was a driver's license, but clearly this guy doesn't drive sober much less drunk. We then ordered appetizers since they were 1/2 off for reverse happy hour. My taste buds still have not forgiven me. We ordered the sliders, steak quesadilla towers, and honey bbq wings. Each one was competing for which would offend my mouth the most. I started out with the quesadilla tower. It was chock full of raw red onions, and some sort of meatish like product, and cheese food product, wrapped in a gummy tortilla. The next thing I tried was the slider. This was covered in raw white onions, which I was fine with scraping off. This left me with a soggy bun and the saltiest piece of dried out ground beef I've ever encountered. I think that tiny little slider had enough sodium to last a month at least. Finally, I tried a wing. It didn't look very appetizing, sulking there in a congealed pool of sauce. It was cold, it was sticky, it was gross. If you love yourself, or even just like yourself a little, don't go here. Even if you hate yourself, don't go here. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. You are better than this and deserve more. read more

I don't get the appeal of places like Applebee's, although I'm trying to understand. I can see that the food is attractive, tastes relatively good, the service is usually fast, and it's easy to figure out what you want, but ... it is also loaded with calories and tons of salt, has no character or inspiration, is something you could make just as easily at home and pay half as much for ... so what is it? What keeps people coming back? Familiarity? Predictability? I was a hostage in Applebee's, no not literally, to the work lunch crew from my office. They all wanted to go there. I didn't want to go there, but I also didn't want to be left out. I settled on the tomato basil soup and the grilled cheese sandwich (680 calories). It was okay. I could have made it better at home. Everything was just okay. The sweet potato fries (340 calories), the onion soup (370 calories), the clubhouse grill sandwich (1120 calories! OMFG!), it was all just okay. If you made this stuff at home, or went to a more concerned restaurant, you could get the same sort of food, but in a healthier style and at less cost. And it's Applebee's. Let's talk for just a minute. Did you know that at Applebee's almost no cooking is done? Premade food in plastic baggies is heated in microwaves and dumped onto plates (Tracie McMillan, The American Way of Eating; Undercover at Walmart, Applebee's, Farm Fields and the Dinner Table, Scribener, 2012). And what are you getting from your plastic bag? Chicken quesadilla Grande - 1330 calories, 76 grams of fat. Cheeseburger sliders - 1690 calories, 103 grams of fat. We've all been there. Out of town, alone, finding dismal dinning options in that small chain hotel your company recommended you stay at, which is miles away from civilization. Sure, you could roll the dice and take a stroll through the surrounding unfamiliar streets, dodge a few gun shots, witness an early evening knife fight, perhaps get introduced to a few local ladies of the night or have Chinese food delivered to your room. (Oh, do we not travel in the same circles?) Then again, there always seems to be an Applebee's close by. Hmm, maybe that's why they call it "Your Neighborhood Grill & Bar," even if it isn't your neighborhood. Every time I've walked into an Applebee's, I get courteous service; a clean-fun place serving fresh eats, cold drinks and friendly banter from the staff. I can't always say Applebee's is my first option when traveling, (or when I'm at home), but when I really think about it, I'm never disappointed, and more often than not, I'm always very pleased. They have a great two-for-$20 menu (not implying you take your new lady of the night there), great lunch combo meals and an array of meals under 550 calories (in case you took a cab the 1/2 block). Their menu offers so many choices; you'll be able to fulfill those crazy traveling hunger pangs, courtesy of (insert any name) airlines. Now, if you do prefer Chinese delivered to your room after a good knife fight, you'll probably want the oriental chicken salad to go. read more

I came in for half price appetizers and ordered the trio cause I wanted to try a few different things to see if they were any good. Unfortunately they were only worth the half price they were asking, the hot wings were bland the tacos were ok but the chicken was overpoweringly salty and the quesadilla was kinda gross. And here is the kicker, the "trio" (and the sampler) for some bullshit reason are not half off. WTF!? First time I've been to an Applebees. I try to avoid chain food restaurants but this was quick and nearby the ABQ airport. Atmosphere was decent and the food was okay. We ordered the Chinese Chicken Salad, Hamburger with Jalapenos, and the Club Grille Sandwich. The Pomegranate Ice Tea was tart at first sip but with a little sugar, stir of my finger (jk), some Splenda, and it turned out just fine. Although when I requested some hot sauce our waiter took a bit longer than usual ... french fries went cold and stale quickly which told me they were frozen. Fresh fresh fries don't go cold and stale quickly. All in all ... will I be back ... don't think so. read more

It is a chain restaurant with a menu designed in a corporate kitchen. It was also the restaurant that was open that served alcohol and was within walking distance of the hotel I stayed at. Arriving at 11:30 PM, there were about 15 people in the restaurant. On entering, I stopped at the sign that said "Please wait to be seated." There was no one behind the bar...and after waiting for about 3 minutes, I saw someone with a nametag come through a door on the left side of the restaurant and behind the bar, cross behind to the right side of the restaurant and engage in conversation with someone else wearing a nametag. I approached and asked if I was to seat myself. Chickie said I was welcome to do so. I sat down at the bar and picked up a menu. The menu touted that appetizers are half-priced late-night. The bartender appeared and checked on the patrons at the bar to see they were good. He came and asked if I was ordering food along with my beverage. When I said I was, he went back to the register and picked up his order pad. I ordered chicken wings and a garden salad along with a Jumping Jesus on a Pogo-stick. The bartender, to his credit, knew how to make the drink. It is 1 shot of Bacardi 151, 1 shot of Rumplemintz, 1/2 shot of Jagermeister and a half-shot of Rose's Lime Juice. I enjoyed the beverage while waiting for food...and got into an interesting conversation with folks who were sitting next to me. I looked at my watch to realize that 15 minutes had passed since I ordered, my drink was nearly empty and there was no food in sight. I asked the bartender about my order and he said he would go check. He returned 2 minutes later with my wings and salad and asked if he could refill my drink. I had a second beverage and ate. The wings...what can you say about wings that are baked and coated in something that a corporate chef considers to be spicy? The 8 wings were respectably sized...not the smallest or largest I ever had. The salad...iceberg lettuce, red cabbage and tomato. The italian dressing was very much Seven Seas, from a bottle, not made fresh. For what was open, it was adequate. read more

Four Stars for Applebees? Yes, for this particular one! Met at the door by the manager? I like that! Applebees always has somebody meet you at the door but I think it's classy when it's the manager. Much better to be out front watching everything and greeting customers than hiding in the back in the office. Typical Applebees fare. I tried one of their seasonal pastas/chicken/veggies and it was good. A lot of food for $9.99! Almost enough for two. I ate the bar as I was alone on business travel. This particular Applebees is near the airport and numerous local Airport Hotels. The bartneder/waiter was very pleasant and it seems he's been there a while as some locals were in talking to him. I was staying at the Hawthorn Suites just down the road and wanted something quick and familiar before passing out after a long day of driving. We were promptly seated with a smile by a lovely hostess and were able to order drinks and appetizers right away. The drinks came and apps came out quickly and we were assured our food would be right out. Fifty minutes later, our waitress said there was a new cook being trained and she couldn't apologize enough. "We are just waiting on the steak," she said. I thought, "Great, that means my chicken dish has been under the heat lamp for 30+ minutes..." Once our food was delivered and I burnt my hands on my plate, my heat lamp suspicions were confirmed. However, the portion was double what I have seen at other Applebees and still tasted pretty good. I wanted to give this place four stars because the customer service was awesome--our waitress was really pretty and her tip reflected her service, not the cook in training's failures. I was just confused as to why they would train someone new on a Friday night during half price appetizer time when the place was absolutely packed?! The parking lot is shared by a hotel so it actually took a good 10 minutes to find a spot after someone left. As far as quality goes, this place was all right. Nothing extraordinarily special about this Applebee's, besides the fact that it's close to many hotels, the airport and almost the only option aside from Fudruckers and IHOP in the area. it's a typical chain restaurant that you can count on consistent food for. Our server was great and drinks were good. 2/$20 option is great for sharing. I had the Oriental Chicken Salad and it was huge. My son had the Cajun Shrimp pasta and it was a bit spicy for him. Spinach & Artichoke dip for an appetizer...wasn't the best, but edible. Appetizers could use a revamp, but it is a chain and typical happy hour food. Overall we were happy. Would we come back? Sure. But if you're willing to drive, there are other places in Albuquerque that I'd recommend. read more

I came here last night for happy hour. I always come here either after a long day at work or a late night study session with my friends, we love the Applebee's late night happy hour from 9-close. This particular time the waitress was extremely lovely. I believe her name might have been Dora but she was a kind blonde women with glasses and was an amazing waitress and had great suggestions on food. And if she didn't know about a drink or food she would ask someone who did know and I respect and appreciate an honest person. Service was quick and she constantly checked up on us as well. Great service. Seated promptly. Server was very friendly and food was served quickly. I would recommend the Sirloin Stir Fry. I found it very tasty with just a slight bit (spicy) taste. I also had a whiskey and coke and they did not skimp on the whiskey. Restaurant nice and clean. Only reason I did not give 5 stars cause I did not go into the kitchen. Waitress name was Colleen. 15 years ago, I never would have gone to Applebee's at all. It was a sports bar that served greasy pub grub, as it's called in the UK. Things had changed. They'd built this location. I tried it. The food had changed drastically and was far more diverse and healthy and good. I've been a regular - they're one of the only places that's open with decent food past 10pm in this entire idiotic city. I have even been willing to overlook somewhat rude service at times and their not appropriately accommodating a disabled person (I have PTSD and really kind of insist on dark, quiet corner booths with my back to a wall and facing the door, not around the bar, kiddies - big reason I come here late and I've told you). Last night, I went in, and discovered to my horror that all the good stuff on the menu, grilled squash, sweet potato fries, garden salads, had ALL been taken off - and replaced with the exact same greasy chicken strips and riblets from McDonald's and gross burgers they used to have. Everything is heavy meat and bacon and grease now. Even their one grilled chicken sandwich comes with bacon and even a chicken salad is FRIED chicken. I guess they never want anyone who remotely cares about eating well to ever eat there again? Just let's deliberately serve nothing but junk and make people fat and sick? I was told, "Well, we still have some healthy options..." Yep, one with Alfredo sauce (very healthy) and one that used to be good salmon, but... did I mention this? Not yet... The food quality has absolutely dropped off a cliff over just the past few months. I've been served 2 inedible steaks (literally inedible, burnt hunks of fat and gristle) and a portion of that salmon that was probably unwise of me to actually place in my mouth, but I survived. EXTREMELY disappointed by this restaurant's precipitous fall from grace, and will likely not be back. To any location - until they get their corporate act together and return to the pretty decent menu they had just last week when I went in and stop serving pure garbage like they used to. I chose the 8pm pickup time and promptly arrived at 7:50. I didn't mind waiting for 10 minutes, assuming the food would be hot and ready right at 8pm. Instead, I ended up waiting almost 15 minutes past my pickup time because the employee thought someone just parked in the carside to go parking. I told them when I ordered what my car's make, model, and color is. By the time I got my food it was lukewarm. I ordered my steak to be done medium, and what I got was a rare/medium rare steak. I guess better undercooked than overcooked. And then the employee asked me to pay, even though I'd already prepaid. Headed to Applebee's Thanksgiving night while we were in town. It was one of the few restaurants nearby and still open. Why 2 stars? Service was slow and our waitress seemed to need to be elsewhere in the restaurant the entire time we were there. She would drop something off and be gone rapidly. Had to call her back a couple times because she turned to leave before waiting or asking if we needed anything else. My wife ordered the Quesadilla Burger - said it was good. I ordered the Cheese and bacon chicken. The chicken was tender and moist. The broccoli and garlic potatoes were good. However - there seemed to be residual carbon on the iron plate and after three or four bites I looked more closely at my order (I had to go elsewhere in the restaurant to find brighter lighting by-the-way) only to verify there was no bacon. When I showed the plate to our waitress she did offer to have bacon put on for me - but did not apologize for the mistake. Also - we ordered side salads thinking they would be $1.99 as listed in the add to your order area of the menu. Nope - $3.99 each. We were told pretty matter-of-fact that we misunderstood the menu. It has been a while since we have gone to an Applebee's restaurant. Now I remember why. read more
