I quit coming here all together awhile back because of the poor service and quality of food inside but decided since I had a gift card to give them a chance and ordered carside. I placed my order online through the app which was easy to use and convenient. Showed up when they said it'd be ready. We waited about 5 min and then Erica brought out my receipt for me to sign and quickly brought out our order. So the service was prompt and friendly and all around ready when they quoted. We got home and dug into our meals. They were accurate, fresh, and nicely packaged so that they held up to "to go" status. Everything tasted great and everyone was happy! Ariel was absolutely amazing. I came in with my family of 4, was seated immediately, and she took the time to make sure the kids got the "best" crayons. Since we all couldn't decide what to eat, Ariel recommended we share the bourbon st chicken & shrimp, the creamy penne pasta, while the kids shared a brisket quesadilla. I came here with my family and friends on Saturday. Long story short, EVERYTHING was drenched with salt. Fries, chips & salsa, chicken, wrap sandwich, chicken tenders, etc. I had to "wipe" my fries with a napkin before eating it to remove unnecessary amounts of salt. I don't mind a little bit of salt but half our food wasn't edible. Our bill was discounted and we were not charged for my daughters plate. Stars are for the really nice manager. Probably the worst Applebee's I've been to.... Had dinner with my friend. The option we had was either Mikasa or Applebee's, which we ended up going to the latter. We were greeted as normally but we're told that there's no booth available, the store was half full when we came in, so we ended up taking the seats next to the bar. Sat down and everything, got our server and such. Our order was taken. About 30 minutes had passed and our appetizer wasn't served yet, which was the boneless chicken wings dressed with the spicy sweet asian child. And so it came, it was actually quite good, the only complaint I had was the sauce was super cold, in contrast to the warm chicken nuggets (less wings, more like nuggets). 10 minutes has passed, we were clearly done with our appetizer and our server was busy serving more customers. Another 15 minutes had passed and out main course has finally arrived, way after when the ones next to us got theirs (and they came in 30 minutes after us). I got my favorite which is the Crispy Brewhouse Chicken. The utensils weren't clean as I expected. My plate was sloppy, it was presented nicely but the side of the plate has drippings of sauce on it and I clearly saw fingerprints on it as well, like it was just reused and never been washed. The food was good, always consistent. Mashed potato was not too salty, very silky and smooth. Onion rings were a tad oily - wasn't put on a strainer. Chicken was cooked done. I have no complaints on the food only the server was killing me, and the sloppy presentation. I love it when the server passed by our table and asked the table next to us if they were doing okay, but not us two. When the food was all set and done, we were just waiting for our receipt. And the server was busy going back in forth onto those two machines at the back and both sides of the bar. Passed by our table a couple times and never bothered checking my friend's water, which was gone.... What pissed me off the most is that when he just took our plates without asking if he can take or if we are done, which was obvious, gave us the bill ($44.40 for 3 plates -- my guy had a stake with two sides). So we finally paid and all, all he said was "sorry about that" and nothing else. The server needs to remember the basics (last time I recall, he never introduced himself). You may have great food but inferior service will bring you down. Applebee's is only good, when it comes to great food, I've had way better ones. And as far I'm concern, it wasn't worth it paying $44 to have a dinner at a place with such horrible service. Most likely won't give this place another chance. Super spontaneous dinner date with Jessica. I randomly texted her I'm in town and said let's go out to eat. I wanted to eat at a sit down restaurant. Applebee's was the nearest! We came around 8:00P was seating in about 10 minutes and the lady told us our server will be with us shortly. SHORTLY. I stop a different person who works there and say, "We've been waiting for almost 30 minutes now and still no server???" Again, another lame ass apology and a "I'll get your server right now" Now we finally have our server. Got our drinks down and ordered the food. Another 25-30 minute wait for the food. We're over here starving like uh.. Why did we get here at 8:00P and didn't get our food until about 9:15P? Hmm... doesn't seem right to me. We should've left at 9:15P if anything. Ordered 2 for $20! I can't believe I'm actually giving an Applebee's a 3.5 star rating (rounded up to 4) but I had two good experiences there while out in exotic Manteca. After trawling up the main industrial strip, there looked like there were some great local Mexican restaurants. There was one right across the street from the infamous "Inn" where Wild Child and I stayed. After we checked in our room, WC and I went by the front desk and I asked the front desk clerk if she knew of any good places within walking distance (since I needed a stiff drink after trying to find our hotel). This clerk was very polite but didn't get my visual cues that my eyes and head were tilting towards the Taqueria across the street when I asked her that question. Much to my disappointment, she said, "Oh, there's an Applebee's two blocks down across the street." "Sh*t! Sh*t! Sh*t!!" I am thinking. I should have covered WC's ears when I asked the question since he was the one who needed fueling before a grueling set of three games of soccer the next day. He immediately perked up and said "Applebee's, Mom!" Note: much to the chagrin of my older two foodie kids, WC is my "picky" eater who loves places like Applebee's, which is incomprehensible to them since they love my cooking and eating at good local restaurants. It was a mystery to me why the Taqueria across the street wasn't recommended. However, I have a couple of theories why the white front desk clerk recommended Applebee's even though, after the fact, I checked out the Taqueria on Yelp and it had some very positive reviews. *sigh* Here are just a couple of theories on what the clerk was thinking: 1. A redhead and a blonde would stand out at such a local hangout like a couple of albinos in Spanish Harlem. One would notice! I personally could have cared less. 2. The parking lot was one of those big ones very close to the highway where serious sh*t could go down after hours and cars can speed away. 3. Being a Manteca resident, she was tired of great local Mexican food. What a spoiled brat! So, what was great about having to go to this Applebee's? Well, even though it was packed with people waiting, they sat WC and I right away since WC loves those high bar tables with the grownup highchairs! They also make no bones on the kids' menu that they serve "Kraft Mac and Cheese" rather then acting like they make it from scratch. Just guess what WC ordered? My "cracked pepper and bleu cheese" steak and the rest of the meal was just okay but they did get the medium-rare part right. I have a theory that Applebee's steaks come from cattle raised in a bizarre Applebee's biosphere somewhere...maybe it's just me but you be the judge.. However, their featured margarita served in a martini shaker was surprisingly good, not at all watered down like so many Applebee's do to their cocktails. I had a sense that there is some stiff (pardon the pun) margarita competition amongst bartenders in Manteca! AND, the best part is we got this waitress, with an unusual name that ran in her family..and I'm kicking myself for not remembering it but she was genuinely perky in a good way and super speedy and we never had to flag her down. We even returned for a harried lunch the next day between soccer matches and happened to be lucky enough to get her again. Sensing that we were in a hurry, she went in and must have charmed the lunch cooks into expediting our order to go amongst absolute chaos. Service: 5 lucky stars in our case. Serendipity can be a wonderful thing. Food: 3 stars for me. 4 for WC *me trying not be look embarrassed here* Ambiance: It's a frigging Applebee's. What do you expect? read more

I don't like to post negative Yelp reviews. I'm a hotelier and restaurateur. Negative reviews are damaging. But this is a chain and at a chain, I expect the sort of neighborhood service that Applebee's advertises. On 12/22 at around 2:15pm, I walked in with my mother. There was another couple of ladies waiting and apparently they had been standing there for quite some time. No one had greeted them. No host to be seen. We stood there for another 5-8 minutes. I know that 5 minutes doesn't seem like a long time, but when you're a customer ANYWHERE, being ignored for more than 30 seconds is not a good feeling. A server walked by and didn't say hello. The shift manager walked up to the desk and instead if saying "Hi, have you been helped yet?" or "I'm sorry for the wait, can I help you?" He simply looked at his clipboard and said "Did she get your name yet?" ...who?! There hasn't been anyone at the door! Poor leadership skills, there! Own your areas! And you could have seated the two ladies who had been waiting for over 20 minutes instead of saying "Okay, she'll get you seated," take ownership and do it yourself! And to the hostess, I believe your name was Dayana (yeah, that's what name tags are for), usually the first thing you say to waiting people is "hello" or "sorry for the wait" and you know what? If you're having a bad day or someone's pissed you off or you hate your job, the guests can see it. Don't walk guests to the table as if it was the most deplorable thing you've been asked to do. There's other people in Manteca who need jobs and will probably do it with a lot more respect for the operation than you do. And I got a dirty plate. Lovely. No food on the table (we were waiting) but the share plate was dirty. Nice water soaked melted cheese attached to it. Manteca Applebee's, you're currently sitting at 2.5 stars. I've been coming here a few times with my family recently. I think the only reason why we love coming here is the 2 for $20 deal which is great. My sister and I usually get that deal with the spinach dip as our appetizer and 7 oz sirlon with mash potatoes and vegetables as our entrees. I take back what my previous review said about rarely having good servers. The last few times I've been here, the waitresses were great. They kept coming to our table to ask if we need anything, refilling our drinks, and giving us extra napkins even if we didn't need it. We started coming to this Applebee's back in 2001,2002. It was our go to place. Food was good, prices reasonable, service really good. That all changed over the years. We would give it a break figuring new cooks and managers would be hired and we would try again and then kick ourselves and say "why did we go"? The last time, my wife ordered their riblet basket. They came out with just a handful of riblets and they were so burnt you could not eat them. I ordered their meat loaf and it came with one skinny piece and tasted like dog food. Called the manager over and this 25yo pimply "kid" comes over and says the meal is on him. I ask him if he would eat those riblets or would he pay $12 for this crappy meatloaf. To begin with, the place was empty, you could see all the empty tables inside and the hosts were telling people the wait time would be 1 HOUR!!!!!! The waiter took a while to greet us when we first arrived. The food we ordered took too long to come out, it was only appetizers. The waiter checked in ONCE and at that point we asked for a cup of water which took another 15 minutes. She asked if I wanted another Margarita which I said NO to. On today's date May 3rd 2022 I had the worst experience at Applebees I was profiled based on my appearance & it escalated when I ordered an alcoholic beverage for myself in which my girlfriend decided to try because she forgot her ID & they wouldn't allow her to order one for herself & I was not aware because I had gotten up to use the restroom I then walk back up to our table & asked my girlfriend about the drink & she told me a manager had came by & took it I then talk to our waiter about it & the manager by the name of Jeff walks up & tells me "yes I threw away the drink" & he explained the situation I then tell him I understand & to comp the drink because I had not gotten the chance to drink any & I also explain that nothing should have been removed from the table without consulting me especially if I had already paid that's when he became hostile & told me that he could comp the drink but he's calling the police. I then explained that saying your going to call the police when no one is being hostile isn't ok. Especially profiling a guest who just spent $130 dollars on food. It was so embarrassing given that he did this in front of other guest wasn't ok. I explained that I also work in the same profession and instead of escalating the situation he should of defused the situation. At this point I will never go back because I felt this manager was totally racist especially to say he was calling the police and for what reason. Because I told he to never remove anything I've paid for away from my table without consulting me. After I should him me business card he then says I only said that because you said don't you ever remove anything from my table without talking to me first. PROFILING AT ITS FINEST. Especially in the world we live in today this isn't ok at all. Apple bees doesn't need managers like this because they ruin business and customers experiences.
