Place is great, location, staff and food. I would suggest getting the wagyu steak and the mushroom ravioli!

We were driving down the 5 and stopped for dinner. This was one of the fee restaurants that came up in the area. We ordered the Jack Daniel's burger and the Boathouse Club, both with a side of coleslaw. Both dishes were surprisingly good. Coleslaw was fresh, bread was perfectly grilled. Meat was tasty. The burger had a great taste. We got the Salted Crunch Cake. Not my favorite, because I like cakes that are more spongy and one was a bit too dense for me. Service was good - attentive and quick. I'll def come back when I'm back in the area to try out more dishes! read more

My husband and I have been here a quite a few times now. It's a nice change of scenery and a quick drive over from Manteca. FOOD: Unfortunately both the Philly cheesesteak and mac n cheese lacked in flavor. For entrees, I recommend ordering the pizza (only available Wed-Sun) and burgers -- they're solid! We enjoyed the Boathouse Nachos and appreciated that the chips came separately from the hot nacho toppings. SERVICE: The service was great, and our waitress even walked out to us in the parking lot with our to-go box after we forgot it inside. So sweet! AMBIANCE: The best time to come here is on a sunny day when you can enjoy the deck and view of the water. There's a park right out front, so it's very family-friendly! We also brought our puppy with us twice and sat outside. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!! If you want horrible food and the most awful service ever then go otherwise save your time and money and go somewhere else. I'd recommend going for a walk around the lake but do not go to this despicable restaurant!!!!! The manager is AWFUL!!!!! He was so incompetent and incredibly rude to his staff. Ok let me say this is the first time I have ever been to this place this whole area with all the new houses and everything around. It is very nice. The ambience at this place was really good. Nice outside area and inside area with water around it Service was really good this place busy and I can see why very nice food. It was very tasty. They give you a great amount and it's not too expensive overall pretty good. I will be back to try it again so I can give it the next star, but if you were in this area come and check it out play some volleyball outside just relaxing and look at the water. We have been to the Boathouse several times over the past couple years. The overall atmosphere is hard to beat in this area. Inside bar and seating area is good, but the expansive outdoor covered dining area overlooking the 'lake' is the best part of being here. Service has always been good. The food itself is rather straight forward and unmemorable. Consider this place to be a pub grub with outdoor games to play, and a great outdoor dining space. read more

I would give a 5 star for the location alone. Literally looks like a boat house nestled next to a lake surrounded by a nice landscaped park and beach volleyball area in front of the entrance. We sat on what looks like the deck of the restaurant. Lots of flies. Service was okay. Took my kids here to eat after a soccer game. Felt a little out of place with all of the stares but we still wanted to give their food an unbiased review. My chicken pesto was good but not extraordinary. My husband said his burger was decent but the potato salad was no good. My kids enjoyed their Mac and cheese though. We've dined here numerous times and have had different experiences each visit. Unfortunately, the food hasn't been very consistent, and the staff hasn't always been the friendliest. That said, the wood fire pizzas are the one standout item and the main reason we continue to come back. When they're good, they're really good. Pizzas are only available Wednesday-Sunday. Just fyi, if you dine here during the summer, there tend to be a lot of bugs. even inside the restaurant which can be distracting. read more

We met our daughter and her boyfriend at The Boathouse for lunch on Sunday. We decided to meet at 11:00, right at opening time. There was a large graduation party setting up on 1/2 of the patio area, and we requested to sit outside as it was a nice day. The hostess did let us know about the party, and that it was starting at 12:00. The party did not bother us at all, just a bunch of people celebrating a graduate, and they were not beyond what a normal lunch party would be. Our server was very attentive, and came over multiple times to check on us, once our meal was served. My husband had the fish tacos, which he loved. I had the pear flatbread pizza, which was also really good. Our daughter had the salmon, and her bf had the seafood pasta. All of our food was fantastic. Overall a mixed review. Enjoyed our bottle of wine (in fact had two it was so good ) my Maui Waui was nice and cold, and the ladies enjoyed their drinks. Ambiance was nice as the waterfront theme with anchors and various other knickknacks and TVs everywhere to watch college football games was cool too. We didn't like that every table had those fly helicopter devices to keep the flies away. Definitely was a distraction and odd to say the least. You need to figure out the fly problem better than that! Service was okay and the waitress was friendly. The menu has stayed the same for years, with exception of them raising prices. I mean c'mon... when you order chips as a side they LITERALLY (I saw them do this, they don't even TRY to hide it) OPEN A LUNCHBOX SIZE BAG OF VICKI's KETTLE CHIPS; if you ask for just a side of chips, they charge you $5.00!! Extremely Disappointed and Deeply Concerned About Discriminatory Treatment My recent experience at The Boathouse at River Island was not only disappointing but deeply concerning. As an African American patron, I felt unwelcome and singled out from the moment my family and i walked in. Upon entering, my presence was immediately met with prolonged stares from several staff members. After waiting several minutes, the bartender looked over and casually stated that someone would be with us shortly. It took another five minutes before we were finally seated by Sarah, who identified herself as the manager on shift. However, instead of seating us right away, Sarah appeared more preoccupied with conversing and interacting with other staff than attending to us in a timely and respectful manner. Once seated, our server, Tevene, brought us a water pitcher with plastic cups. As someone who pays attention to detail, I noticed that every other table around us was served in proper glassware. When our drinks arrived--again, in plastic cups--I looked around and saw that another African American customer seated outside also had a plastic cup, while every other guest had glass. This pattern was alarming and deeply upsetting. We originally came with intentions of inquiring about renting the venue for a future event and attempted to speak with Marcus, the owner. Unfortunately, he was unavailable and, after three separate attempts to speak with him by phone, he either hung up or the calls were abruptly disconnected--without any follow-up or accountability. To be made to feel like an outsider, to be served differently, and to witness what appeared to be discriminatory behavior based on race is unacceptable. Racism, whether subtle or overt, has no place in hospitality or anywhere else. As an African American, I will choose to spend my time and money where I am valued and respected. I strongly encourage others in the Black community--and anyone who believes in equality--to think carefully before supporting this establishment. read more

Sunday afternoon we were able to get seated inside right away, which was great as it was hot outside. We still had a lot of flies as the door was open. Ask for a table fan as they have a few. They need to put one on every table. I had the pasta carbonara and it was really tasty. Hubby had crab cakes with fried eggs on top. First eggs came out way over done, so they took it back to recook. It took about half an hour to get the new eggs (I think they forgot us) and the rest of us were almost done eating by the time they came so the manager was nice and took it off the bill. Our friends had salad with shrimp, firehouse burger and their son had a kids burger with mac and cheese. All food was good, no complaints. We found the restaurant to be very unsanitary (between the cooks wiping their noses and clothing attire with their hands and gloves on resuming food placement and preparations, to the bartender bare handedly touching straws reusing cups and replacing the same straws that customers now place their mouths on after being handled, to the wait staff slapping the mosquitoes bare handed off of their bodies table side and then placing straws in our drinks and touching our plates immediately afterwards to the over abundance of flies and mosquitoes that make it impossible to enjoy a meal or atmosphere. We were visiting our friends and they took us here to eat lunch. The ambiance and views from here are nice! It's on a man made lake in a housing community. I would have never known this place was here! The servers were really nice and our food came out really quick! I ordered the ceaser salad wrap with the pasta salad as my side. It was ok. Nothing special. But my partner got the Thai chicken lettuce wraps, and those were good!! Not authentic lettuce wraps that you'd think of, but still super yummy! The atmosphere is unbeatable -- right on the water with beautiful views that make it the perfect spot to relax. It's also dog-friendly, which was a huge plus for us! We came here to surprise my dad and celebrate his birthday. We showed up as a party of 8+3 babies and immediately the waitresses got to work putting a couple of tables together to accompany all of us. We were given the option to sit indoors or outdoors, ultimately we decided to sit inside because it was pretty hot. I've been to the Boathouse at least half a dozen times. I would love to say it the food, but it's not. I love sitting on their patio. It's the best one for miles and with its shade and water view, almost always a very pleasant experience. The food is average. Some things are excellent, and some are not. I've had some really good salads, sandwiches, and fish tacos. The blueberry white chocolate cheesecake is a standout dessert. But the burgers and sides disappoint. Things like the potato salad (generous portion) and macaroni and cheese are bland. Plus, they don't serve French fries. The burgers are small. Even though they are supposed to be Waygu, I didn't find mine particularly satisfying. I have been hesitant to explore further. Maybe a smaller menu would allow for more consistency. Some of the staff are friendly and the barn- like main dining room is airy and bright. I've never played the games, but they do have bocce and cornhole. There is also a sand volleyball court out front. I haven't seen it in action in quite a while but is a unique feature that somehow adds to the ambience. Parking can be dicey on a really nice day, but the is more parking around the other side. Long drive, relatively speaking, but short walk. Go for the experience. Just have modest expectations. BTW, I would say this place is closer to 2.5. Three is a tad generous. read more

I finally got to try this restaurant and it was for a dual birthday celebration. The restaurant doesn't do reservations but we got there as they opened at 11:30 am on Sunday. We sat outside and it was a windy day but we were seated closer to the restaurant wall, which was perfect. I wish they had moved their tables before they opened. Staff were moving round tables and setting up their rectangle tables and chairs. It was loud and a bit disruptive as we waited for our meal. Our server was great, unfortunately I don't recall her name. She brought out the drinks and the kids' meals first. She provided updates when the pizza would come out. The pizza oven was outside and no smoke came our way. The pretzel was delicious, not too salted, it was soft and fluffy. The cheese dip was warm and not too runny. It had too much green onion garnish for my liking. The pesto pappardelle was delicious, fresh pasta and I wish it came with more bread to soak up the sauce. The chicken wasn't dry and there were plenty of chicken servings. The cocktails were also strong. The boathouse punch was refreshing. Old fashioned was very strong. Strawberry margarita was sweet. The grilled pineapple punch was a bit tart. The restaurant do not sing happy birthday which was perfectly fine. They brought out two warm brownies with a caramel drizzle and whipped cream. The brownie was warm and gooey and was a decent size. The size is enough for 11 of us to share. Walk around before or after your meal at the dock, park or sand area. I was in town visiting my cousin she lives in River Islands this location was so convenient since it's in River Islands neighborhood. Inside there is a bar area seating tables and some TVs . We decided to seat outside which is a big patio area over looking the river it was really relaxing . Our waiter was super nice and attentive . She was always checking out us and made sure we had everything we needed . I ordered the Wagyu Jack Daniels burger with their loaded Mashed Potatoes. They were both delicious the mashed potato for the side is the way to go ! My cousin got the Cobb salad that thing was huge and it looked really good . I wanted a wood fire pizza but it was to early the oven was not ready yet . I will have to come back to try the pizza . Inside it looked clean and organized. For the parents with small kiddos they have a changing table in restroom. Overall my cousin and I had a great lunch date. My daughter went there and she was obviously profiled for being younger. They did not pay attention to her and basically ignored her and her friend the whole time. The restaurant was not busy and they saw other people getting better service all around them. Food took long, drinks took long, service was terrible. They had to wait to pay. TO TOP IT OFF THEY WALKED ON A LOWER WALKWAY AND THE STAFF WERE THROWING DRINKS OVER THE EDGE AND IT SPLASHED ALL OVER MY DAUGHTER AND HER FRIENDS. Everyone there saw it and they were so embarrassed. They were sent there with their parents money and just wanted to have a nice time instead they said they were mistreated. We are from the area and we also are in the restaurant industry. I think it's messed up because regardless of age you don't know anything about the people going to your establishment so you should treat them all fairly and with respect.
