AVOID A.R.E. at all costs!!! They are unprofessional, unresponsive and will give you the runaround while you're stuck with a non-functioning appliance. Anyone that has lived in Chicago long enough knows what a nightmare it is to not have a working AC in the summer. Robert and Jose wasted nearly a month of my time while pushing off the repair appointment, giving me the distinct impression that they forgot to order the materials needed to get the job done; and when they finally did order the materials - ooooops it's the wrong ones!!! I wasted hours of my time on repeat phone calls and follow up (follow up they promised to do but NEVER did). I ultimately DUMPED A.R.E. and scheduled with a real professional. I needed someone to come out quickly (24-48 hours) as my washer was making a lot of noise. ARE came out the next morning within their timeslot - you can track the engineer - and did a very thorough diagnostics job. The washer could have been repaired at a high cost but the engineer recommended replacement, rather than just cashing in, so a really fair and honest appraisal. NOTHING!! Doesn't really even deserve one star. Set up appointment. Got emails and text saying appt was confirmed for 11:00-1:00pm 1:15pm I tried calling 2-3 times (voice mailbox was full) tried another number that led nowhere... just said it would send an SMS message. Did that at least twice. No response. Clicked on the texts and email links to reschedule, rebook, cancel... nothing worked. Don't know if "Square up" contributed to this problem? Links in the texts led me to Square up websites, which of course... led to nothing but most blank web pages with very little info. VERY disappointed I wasted an entire day waiting. Delays happen completely understand but NO CALL and now 4:15pm and just going to flat out NOT SHOW?? Just terrible.... avoid at all costs. I'll go with someone more reliable now. read more

I had ARE Chicago do a repair on our washer. They scheduled me for an 8:30am appointment. Robert the service technician called me that morning to let me know he was on his way. Robert showed up on time and got to work on the repair. He was very knowledgeable and had the new part with him. He had the repair done in no time at all. Sometimes old habbits do not die, as I read some of these older reviews now. Back in May I put out an FB post looking for recommendations for vending machine repair. I was sent Robert's information and opted to go with him. Well, he came in to check out the machine that wasn't accepting money. I honestly think the issue was there was not enough cash in the machine to give change. He played around with it for a bit and ultimately thought the same. Service charge was a bit much for really not doing anything but he did make a drive and it was his time so I let it go. While I did have him there I addressed another issue with the machine, he said he would need to order a part. Later that day he sent a message on what the cost would be and seemed like he was expecting full payment before the job was even scheduled or done. I told him I'd send the cost for the part and the balance would be paid upon completion of the install. That was May 15th when I sent the payment. There was 1 follow up on May 29th showing ETA for delivery of the part to be June 7th. I feel like that is the day the part was actually ordered not 5/15 when I sent the money. After that day, nothing. No follow up nor update. On June 27th, 20 days after the part should have been delivered I sent Robert a message requesting a refund. Because who let's that amount of time pass without any update to a customer?? I get no response. I messaged him again on July 1st and nothing. AND again via FB messenger July 2nd, where you can see when someone reads their message(s). He did that same day and still nothing back!!! COMPLETELY IGNORED ME! I let it go for a bit because I had a vacation and other things going on. Then finally yesterday, August 12th- almost 3 months to the day that I sent him money for a part that was supposely due to deliver June 7th. And after 3 attempts to reach this guy. I have a co worker call from his cell. This guy answers and plays so dumb like yeah, the vending machine. And starts giving the excuse that the part didn't come in and he was waiting for a refund- At this point I believe nothing he is saying. So, I told him send back the money we sent in May immediately- he then says he is on vacation and will send it over when he gets back to the office. Like WHAT!! With some back and forth he did indeed send the money. Moral of the story, if you don't mind getting ignored and horrible customer service when you do get this guy on the phone. Go somewhere else! I needed a repair on a very squeaky dryer that made an unbearable shrieking noise. Robert was available same-day, and gave me several options of times he could come. He was professional, courteous, and on time. He took pictures of the damage along the way and explained to me the problem. My dryer did not require a replacement of a part, which I thought was very honest and straightforward-- he could have charged me for a part but only did what was required to fix the problem. While he was inspecting the dryer, he noted that there was a problem with the way the dryer was connected, which was causing damage to the dryer. He explained this all to me and when I asked if he could send me the pictures and an email documenting the issue so I could take it to my condo association, he followed up with a very detailed and professional email within 24 hours. I asked for about 7 quotes from services in the area, and this was the most affordable. I can't recommend them enough! read more

Said the part wasn't made anymore, but found an aftermarket one online. Delivery was delayed so he took it upon himself to look elsewhere. So my 10 year old refrigerator stopped working Saturday night spoiling a bunch of food and was on the verge of spending thousands of dollars to buy a new unit when I decided to call out a appliance repairman.
