I asked the sales person what model I should buy and told him that I wanted the very best there was to offer as we did not usually change out our washer and dryer's but every 15 to 20 years. He stated that Kenmore with the very best and we would be absolutely pleased with the set. He also said that it would easily last us for 15 to 20 years that we were accustomed to. Well... that was a straight up lie! After spending $3000 for the set and spending another $7-800 for the extended warranty, the washing machine rusted out!! YES! It's a washing machine that's allergic to water! Believe it! The warranty does not cover corrosion or rust. Even though this unit was recalled like crazy and is no longer being used by the Kenmore brand because of its issues. Sears failed to take care of the problem and remedy the situation on multiple occasions. They left my family with a rusty tub to wash clothes in! No wonder Sears is about to permanently close their doors!

They sent Astro Appliances to fix my oven. The first visit was on Dec. 10th. There have been four visits since, four parts replaced, and my oven is still not working! Akai inspected the entire unit and indicated the issue was the defroster in the freezer wasn't working and needed to be replaced. He quoted me what I thought was a very fair price but before I could say "Shut up and take my money!" he added that when he had unplugged the unit & plugged it back in, when starting up again the compressor sounded a bit suspicious. Thus he indicated I could go ahead and pay him to install a new defroster in the freezer, but it is only a matter of time before the compressor craps out and then replacing it would be over $1,000 and not worth it. So get this....he proposes that I defrost it the old school way by unplugging it, opening both the freezer & fridge doors, placing towels in front of the unit, and allowing all of the ice to melt and then just mop up all the water with towels and my wet vac and that would solve the problem for now. And in a few months when the issue occurs again I can just repeat the old school defrosting method until the compressor finally goes kaput, and then get a brand new refrigerator. Sure enough, I proceeded to do exactly what he recommended and lo and behold the fridge & freezer started working properly again. And I am all too happy to repeat every few months to squeeze every last bit of life from this old fridge until I have to get a new one. Akai could have very easily kept quiet about the compressor sounding sketchy and that it could fail in 3 weeks, 3 months, or 3 years and gotten a nice service order for replacing the defroster since he had already devoted the valuable time & effort to come to my house. However, he instead chose to be completely honest and forthcoming which is not as common as it should be and is very appreciated. I have saved his contact info and the next time I have any issues with any appliances he will be the technician I call. Knowledge and experience is great and there are a lot of qualified & knowledgeable appliance repair companies out there. However, also possessing honesty and integrity is why I strongly recommend Akai for any appliance repair issues.

He stated "wait an hour or so" for it to start working. He was also unable to use diagnostic codes to force a manual water fill for ice maker. I had to show him how to do this. After he left I did an internet search for common problems with this model. I found a broken wire is a common issue and found this was the case. He returned and when I SHOWED him the broken wire he repaired them. The ice maker started to work right away. I requested at least a reimbursment for the part that was unnecessarily replaced excluding labor and was denied. I would expect a tech to use all available tools to find a reason an appliance was not working. I would also expect a company to stand by their work.

As you can see, I spent four Saturday's waiting on Home Depot and finally taking a half-day off work to once again wait on Home Depot.
