Weeks later my system leaks and I called them back to look at it. The man entered my house (no greeting) angry and raising his voice telling me he installed the dampers correct, extremely defensive and angry before I could even say a word. When I called the office to report his behavior, they told me "Chris is just an excited man" and justified his demeanor. They told me this was expected and should have known that my ducts weren't insulated. They never warned me about the downside to adding dampers to my system. They were extremely rude. Don't give them your time or money.

This was the second HVAC installation at our home in less than three weeks…read more So dissatisfied were we with the first company, that we had the system pulled back out and we went almost a week without a system. Air Specialty Heating and Air, installed another system, yesterday. From the get go things were done in a more professional manner. Rather than jumping to and only offering the most expensive solution($16,000) --which clearly wasn't working-- our Sales Solution and Information Advisor T. Mulè addressed our issues and offered us three possible solutions. Upon further discussion and suggestions, we scaled back and went with the tried and true, 2-stage RUUD solution, an upgrade from our original system(Goodman). With the first new system(the one we had removed), a variable stage 3t York system, our upstairs became almost uninhabitable, with the temperature never coming down to the set point (73), and humidity above 50%. The system struggled to reach 73 degrees! (Our old downstairs system holds easily at 72 degrees and 36% humidity, and old upstairs was matching those numbers until it finally died...) Adding that the York ran continuously and while whisper quiet outside, ran like a jet engine overhead inside the home where, I really didn't want to hear it! It never stopped, it rarely hit 73 degrees and the humidity was always higher than comfort level. The first day of install, it took 8-hours to cool from 88 degrees inside down to 78 degrees, with humidity in the mid-50s to mid-60s! This new RUUD almost immediately hit the set point of 73 and the humidity dropped to 43%! (Less than 4-hours) And the installation process itself was far more professionally done. Upon going into the attic after the three installers left, I was amazed to find just how neatly the job had been completed.. The previous installers left a real mess behind. Loose screws on the floor holes in the sheathing, the overflow wasn't even over the pan. The three installers (Matt's team) with "Air Specialty," left the attic in beautiful condition. All of the mess was cleaned up. Everything was tied and in place. Access to the system is easy to reach. Moreover, they even left the manual in a hanging folder within reach of the system. Honestly, there was a night and day difference in the install process and the system solution match for the home. I would, without reservation, recommend Air Specialty Heating and Air for any HVAC needs!

We are very disappointed, especially since the system was very expensive and not even a year old.

I called Pride Mechanical on Sunday and left a message on their non emergency voicemail. They called me first thing Monday morning, and we set up an appointment for a timeframe that worked with my fairly busy schedule for that day. Really convenient. Got a text saying they were on their way about 5 minutes after the 3 hour appointment window started. They were at my home in like 20 minutes after receiving the text. The inside of my house was kind of messy, but they didn't even need to come inside. They were able to go straight to my units and start their diagnostics less than 3 minutes after arriving at my home. Within about 15 minutes they had successfully figured out and fixed the problem. I could not have asked for a better experience. I was very grateful and impressed. The technicians were polite, friendly (and not aggressively friendly if you know what I mean), and did a great job discussing my HVAC system and answering my questions without getting overly technical or insulting my intelligence by being overly basic. As AC repair experiences go, this was the best I've ever had. The speed of service and professionalism was first class all the way.

Brian walked in, took a look at the unit and said he knew EXACTLY what the problem was five seconds later. He saw the float valve was popped up on the drainage tube (which I didn't even realize was something I needed to be on the lookout for ). He cleaned out the drainage tube and the rest of the unit for good measure, and I appreciated both the quick assessment, resolution, and education he gave me on maintenance during that visit. I signed up for their twice-yearly maintenance package that day, and I've been a happy subscriber ever since. Jorge has come to do the maintenance the last couple of times, and he is thorough and equally as knowledgeable as Brian. When he had a concern about the air flow coming out of one of the vents, he was quick to volunteer to crawl under the house to take a look at the duct work, and I really appreciated his honest assessment of it. The insulation is starting to fall down and wear out, but I was pleasantly surprised to hear that I could save up a few more years before the ductwork would probably actually need full replacing, and he gave me a ballpark figure based on the square footage and number of vents in my house, so I can plan accordingly. Much appreciated!! A company that employs people with such knowledge and integrity is a company that will have my business for decades to come. Their twice-yearly maintenance for heating and air conditioning is easily one of the best (and surprisingly affordable!) investments I make each year. Worth every penny!

You'd think that having to blow (no pun intended) that much money these companies would be falling all over each other to get my business? Am I right or am I crazy? Anyhoo out of the 5, only two actually called me with estimates and explained the process...only two. Oh Hampton Roads c'mon you're better that that! Now remember, they all went to my home to see what needed to be done, but only 2 called me back with information. Anyway company #2 gave me a written estimate, and when I called with follow up questions they were less than helpful. Enter company #1 White Goods Services. Rusty (yep) called me and emailed me a lot of information, and even sweetened the pot a bit for me since I was on a tight time schedule. He was patient (I am stationed overseas and was flying home to oversee the install) with all my internet phone calls with more than likely dumb questions. But he wanted my business and explained it all in great detail to me. Even though at points during his phone calls my eyes did glaze over a bit, I mean explaining HVAC systems isn't exactly riveting like watching an Avengers movie...but I digress. Once at the home he came out with his crew (who by the way were the utmost professionals, going out of their way to make sure everything was perfect) and began the install. It took two days as this was a rather big job. Once it was done the house was cool, (pun intended) and all the new equipment was given a thorough inspection along with follow up visits to come. They taught us how to use the state of the art panels and climate controls, and bonus hey I can set the ac to freezing though an app on my cell phone just to mess with my tenants heads now..lol! They might think the house is haunted...But I wont. Out of all the companies Rusty and his team were not the least expensive, but they offered more bang for the buck in terms of service agreements and warranties. I have to say after dealing with this company I will always recommend them to anyone looking for honest HVAC repair or install. It was a quick turnaround and every bit of it went according to a plan Rusty laid out for me. No surprises, no added costs, I got exactly what I paid for. I just wanted to speak over the phone with the technician who was last in our house and ask him some questions directly, but I guess that was an unreasonable request! Unreal. It seems every time they come for some kind of maintenance something goes wrong with our system. The billing is very disorganized and we were over charged, which I had to discover by looking through bank statements. The billing was refunded, but that should never have happened in the first place. Time to move on. Unfortunate.
