Discovered at 6am that our heater had been out for a couple days, as it got a little cold last night. Crisis averted when Troy TALKED me through it from PENNSYLVANIA. Wowee. we traced the problem to a loose electrical lead on the safety switch at the heater access door. You will NOT get better customer service or professionalism from these guys out there with their fancy vans and annoying TV commercials. After leaving a message I received a call back from someone who didn't identify himself other than to say "you left a message about a new HVAC system". When I asked if he was from Hares, he said yes. He said that he could come out a week later at 8AM. Well, he never showed up and my husband was over an hour late for work because he waited around. No phone call, no nothing. Worst experience with a company ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew immediately something wasn't right with them when the technician Paul lied to my face about not removing a couple screws I left securing the cover for my outside unit the night before. The cover was partially off and screws were missing but he said he didn't mess with it. Not sweating a couple screws, I allowed them to continue troubleshooting. Once the leak was found on the coil, I asked for an estimate for the repairs and he looked at me confused. He later said, "lets throw a number at it, $1800". I then said, lets not just throw a number at it and tell me actual cost. There was zero customer service, he became frustrated because I wanted to know what I was paying for. With attitude he said, fine I will write it up. His estimate included an extra 2 hours ($125 per hr) from the poorly put together verbal quote. And the coil had insane markup, $800!!! Needless to say I kicked him out and got another company to do the repairs for $1200, including 2 free service checks. Coil was $500 vice $800 and labor was $60 vice $125! Do not use Hare's Heating and Cooling. RUN AWAY!!! read more

Terrible experience. The tech (Paul) came out, spent two hours conducting diagnostics. Quoted me a price for the diagnostics at double the cost most other companies as well as parts mark up being double. The customer service was awful, and the tech was extremely rude when asked any questions as if he couldn't be bothered to explain pricing or services... so I decided to go with another company that charged half the cost. When sent the invoice the following day they had tacked on additional charges for diagnostics despite having been told the cost the night before. When asked what the additional charges were for excuses were made with no real answers. Finally after a little rebuttal I paid the price I had originally been told. I will never use them again, and suggest you don't as well. read more

Troy and his team are courteous professionals that will not leave you in a spot - they will get your A/C back up and running even though it is July 4th weekend or will work to replace your hot water heater with just a days notice. I called and spoke with Troy to get an estimate for a new HVAC system after hearing about him from another customer. I told him another company had recommended replacement of my R-22 HVAC system because my system stopped working and was depleted of the costly refrigerant. The outdoor unit had stopped running and at minimum a bad capacitor. The other company said to replace the capacitor and possibly fan motor, and fill with refrigerant would be anywhere from $1,200 to $2,000; and recommended replacement quoting $7,000. When Eric from Hares HVAC arrived to quote a new system, he did an inspection of my 10 year old system and told me I didn't need a new system. He believed it would be a simple repair and that the system was still fully charged with refridgerant. He replaced the capacitor, and it came online. The fan motor was almost seizing, so he replaced the motor, checked the R-22 and it was nearly fully charged, but he topped it off for me. The repair cost was minimal compared to the cost of a new system or the repair estimate of the other company. I appreciate their honesty and integrity. They could have just sold me a new system for $5-6k. Instead, I paid less than $500. I would recommend Hares HVAC to my best friend and I plan to use them exclusively in the future. read more

Called the owner and asked for a rough idea of how much he'd charge to install a new heat exchanger in my outside furnace pack, stating I already had the parts. He said $500-$600, which to me was intended to just be a ballpark. Then he then subbed it to a contractor in Moyock, who came out and completed the job in under an hour with a two man crew, but still charged me $500. Granted, I had already disassembled some of the unit while troubleshooting, so it really was down to a simple job, and in hindsight I should have finished it myself if I had more time. Most dissappointing was the text replying to my protest stating that he was sorry I was unhappy and that was cheaper than most other companies would have charged. I'm going to need two new AC units in the next few years, and neither contractor will be on my list of considerations. read more

We couldn't have had a better experience with this company. I am in the process of selling my home and of course my AC goes out. I had a bad experience in the past of someone installing the inside unit wrong which voided my American Home Shield warranty, so needless to say I was a little hesitant choosing a new company to come replace my inside and outside unit. Troy was referred to us through a military contact and we are so thankful. He made the process as smooth and inexpensive as he could and the customer service provided to us really couldn't have been any better. I called Hare's on a few days ago because my lower level AC unit was not working. It was an extremely hot day. I had visitors staying with me and 9 kids 12 and under here. I looked up reviews and called 2 companies hoping for the best. One company said they would come out the next day. I called Hare's, left a message and Troy called me back immediately. He was incredibly kind and apologetic without me volunteering any information about my situation. He said he had 14 calls ahead of me but would try his best to get to our house as soon as possible. I assumed I would not hear back from him. At 5:30pm, he called to inform me he was on his way, again apologizing for not getting to me sooner. Once here, he greeted us all, looked at the unit, deduced the problem, fixed it and chatted. He was gone in 15-20 minutes. We tried to feed him, hydrate him (it was so hot) and give him a tip. He finally accepted a gatorade only mostly because I was forcing it on him. It was so hot and humid out and he had clearly been working all day. Among other things, Troy mentioned he teaches his trade in the evenings. He really blew me away with his positive attitude after a FULL day on the job - I wish I could be that friendly at the end of a long day. The best part was his fee was absolutely affordable/reasonable! And, just like that, he was off to his next call. I don't usually write reviews but I cannot recommend Hare's more! read more
