Went there Saturday night with my husband. Very pretty view , but not the food. One small crab cake was $12. There were 8 large scallops on platter with mushy French fries, scallops were tasteless for $24.We asked waitress if we could substitute or add to the platter she said no everything was counted out and they wouldn't do it. Waitress said no nachos or bread bowl left, She explained this was due to menu changing next day, What your not going to offer bread or nachos with the new menu? Son asked about raw oysters. $3.00 per oyster. Really? Apps came and then entrees 1 minute later. Where do you want us to put all this food? When we told waitress there was no room she gave us the eye roll. Bus boy came out a minute later and asked if he could clear any dishes. What do you want to clear , We just got our food. Wow. I had such a great experience here last night with my husband. We're picky about value. Yes, pricey, but when you want a quality meal, they need to pay for good quality ingredients. I had the very best seafood linguini with spicy marinar that I have ever had. Bar none. And I have been to hundreds of seafood restaurants around teh country over the last several years. It's definitely comfortable for the 40's, 50's and 60's set.. (is that old??). I didn't think there was an over abundance of blue heads as the reviewer above mentioned the older crowd bit. My boyfriend and I were shopping all day at the outlets and had plans to go somewhere else for dinner but on a limb chose this place instead. From the beginning, all the staff were super friendly. We got seated and the server, kayla, took our order very quickly. It was busy so the food did take quite some time but she made sure our drinks were always filled and ended up comping our apps for the wait. The food was unbelievable and so fresh, we were beyond pleased. Kayla was awesome and made our experience even better. I was meeting a friend from home tonight and looked for a restaurant halfway between here and there. I picked Rocky's Aqua based on the website. My first impression of the place was that it is a townie hangout with an overpriced and confused menu, like sooo many on the CT shore with an amazing location and outdoor bar on the water. Being very cautious of this, we ordered an app (the PEI Mussels) before ordering anything else. My first impression could not have been more wrong. Growing up in CT, I can honestly say that these were some of the best prepared mussels I have ever had (with white bean and chorizo), so we went nuts and ordered 3 more apps and an entree to split. When the manager (I think) arrived with our apps and entree, he looked a bit confused until he figured out we were there to try everything..then he seemed kinda psyched about it. We got a gluten-free (necessary for my friend) crab cake (how is that even possible?) which was delicious, buffalo wings (sounds simple, I know, but they were some of the meatiest wings Ive seen this side of CT), aptly named 'best bar fries you've ever had' and the broiled Seafood platter, which consisted of 2 beautifully grilled shrimp (12-16 count?), 2 scallops, a piece of haddock (I think), scalloped potatoes and sauteed green beans for like $24. Our server was on top of things and I have a new favorite restaurant..I just wish I lived closer than 45 minutes away, but I will make the trip again! read more

Have been visiting this restaurant over the summer and recently visited after season. What a hidden gem, did not realize this summer restaurant could so easily transition for the fall season. The food is superb, fresh and creative. The service and entire staff is friendly and helpful. Highly recommend you visit if in the area and if not make the trip, very good. read more

We are new to the Westbrook area and last night my wife and I had dinner at Rocky's Aqua. We had a terrific time. The staff was fantastic and the food was delicious. I had the blackened salmon and it was nice and blackened on the outside and moist on the inside. My wife had the blackened scallops. She is a scallops expert and they met (and surpassed) her high standard. We will be sure to make this a regular "go to" restaurant. read more

My husband and I ate here for the first time, we had delicious Fried Fish Sandwiches with house made French Fries! Both the owner and staff are so friendly. We also had Cedar Island Iced Teas, yum! Going to go there for New Years Eve. We are so fortunate to have just purchased a house right down the street. Keep up the good work. Our new favorite restaurant. It will be quite a while before I return here. I understand things now are different with the new regulations and restaurants are learning to run different. This evening I was there with a few friends and my friends mom. There were a lot of people there and the hostesses were ignoring people, not coming back to acknowledge new people and SEVERAL times we saw one look at a person standing there, say nothing to them and walk away even turning some away saying they weren't taking anymore customers for the night (this was at 7:30). When my friend went to find the manager she came out she immediately cut my friend off who was calmly trying to explain why the villagers were restless. She clearly wanted nothing to do with anything my friend had to say. She informs us that she had told the hostess to hold off seating people. This is something that requires some simple communication. Instead of making us wait longer with no communication someone should have come out and said the kitchen is crazy right now so we're going to slow seating down for a minute we appreciate you waiting. Seems simple enough. Even the wait staff were walking by apologizing repeatedly and saying how they really hope we still have a great meal. We waited for almost 2 hours some parties for longer only to be seated after the manager had been spoken to and by the time we get to ordering they were out of everything we wanted. I usually really enjoy this place but nope. This was the worst experience I've had at a restaurant in a really long time. read more

As I'm in the location quite often in the summer, I go a few times each season. This season they are having specials on the menu which is good. They used to be very traditional with only the menu. The owner is often in the restaurant, he walks around to make sure things are ok. I wonder how often people will really say something negative? For the most part, the food is good. I had a problem with a meal 2 weeks ago (the sauce on the pasta tasted burned. They replaced it with another entree without any hassle which I appreciated. 1) Prices are have increased the past couple of years. I know inflation has affected things. Fresh and quality food does cost. You don't get the side salad anymore with entree. That is another $4. It's a "double whammy." 2) food is good. The size of the tomato/mozzarella appetizer was tiny. 2 slices of tomato (each cut in half) plus 4 semi-decent slices of mozzarella with a dab of basil (like one leaf chopped up). I guess they were running out of food? 3) Service is always friendly, a bit slow. I've had this on holiday weekends which I can be understanding. However, have had this situation even on quieter evenings. 4) Drinks are well made. They are actually quite reasonably priced, whether it's a mixed drink, wine, or beer. I'm not a seafood fan, they have about 5 non-fish items on the menu. For those of you on a budget, they offer sandwiches even in the evening. The filet mignon sandwich I had 2 weeks ago as a substitute turned out to be very good. It's a small steak (4 oz) yet it was filing and properly cooked. My friend had prime rib one evening, I had a taste of it and didn't really care for it. On the plus side, their seafood entrees are always good. Lobster, swordfish that my friends order are always very tasty and fresh. Clams casino as an appetizer are always a good choice. The views are wonderful. If you enjoy entertainment, they have a band nearly every weekend performing...they post that on their facebook page, etc. so you can enjoy music, dance, have a drink, or enjoy a meal....or all of the above! read more

My wife and I keep coming back to this place, willing to pay up for a wonderful seaside ambience despite an unexceptional and fully-priced menu. To be fair, we've only done lunch there, and our exposure has been limited pretty much to the sandwiches and sides, the chowders and salads. You will get standard fare across the board -- no culinary surprises. But everything does seem a little tastier in the soft breeze coming off the Sound. Very few places like it on the CT shore. We live next door so we go here every so often for drinks or a meal. Very nice atmosphere and good staff. The food is very good, although the portions are generally terribly small, especially for what you pay. If you are not that hungry or aren't a big eater, I can't imagine not enjoying the Aqua, great place! read more

I've tried all the restaurants on the CT Shoreline and Aqua if by far the best I've had! The food is fresh and delicious! Every dish myself and my family have had has been excellent. The prime rib was tender and seasoned perfectly. The seafood very fresh and creatively prepared. Even the salads were fresh and crisp. Nice to go to a restaurant and be pleasantly surprised. The new deck and bar area are very clean and cosey! The waitstaff is friendly and efficient. Would go here every night! Highly recommend! read more

Great restaurant with great food. Rocky's is quickly becoming one of the iconic shoreline restaurants. I often come by sea, and the parking for boats is not very clear. The kids at the Clinton gas dock usually have no idea where one should park either. They may be trying to get too many customers in the restaurant. Some of the tables feel very close when the place gets busy, that is my only complaint. read more

A little too big for their britches...we called ahead for a table on Father's day and were told that they were booked, but that seating in the outside bar was on a first-come, first-served basis. When we got there, no one was at the hostess stand, and there was no crowd waiting to be seated. In the bar we noticed two empty tables, so we went ahead and sat down. After waiting 15 minutes for service, the hostess finally came over and said that the table we were sitting at was reserved for the owner's family, and indicated that we should move; no reserved sign was on the table. A nice couple to our left said they were leaving and we could take their table, but the hostess said "no," that we would have to put our names on the waiting list and wait another 20-minutes. That doesn't sound like first come, first served. And if there was a list, we should have been told that on the phone, or at the very least there should have been staff present at the hostess station. No attempt was made to offer a solution or even a good faith gesture, e.g. "please wait in the inside bar until we can find you another table and please enjoy this appetizer with our compliments," etc. Nothing was done and they allowed us to leave without any effort on their part to keep us as happy customers. Its not like this is Manhattan and we're waiting for a table at Nobu. The food at Aqua is mediocre at best and the main thing they have going for them is their waterfront location. Service is borderline and slow. In short, they aren't in a position to let paying customers walk out the door unhappy. And as a restaurant owner in the business of customer service, I certainly wouldn't let paying customers walk out the door upset because I was saving a table for my relatives - totally absurd. Just a word to the wise - great for drinks or apps, but be prepared for average service and a long wait, assuming you actually get to stay at your table! read more

Rocky's Aqua is a fun, casual waterside destination. It seems a little more than casual but don't let the cherry wood furniture fool you. We went to dinner there the other night. The menu has allot of your usual items and a few interesting ones. I had the Eggplant and Lentil w/ Mango dish. I am trying to lose a few pounds so i am trying some food way out of my comfort zone. It was delicious. It was served on a bed of Boston Bib lettuce and i could not put my fork down. What a great vegetarian option. My wife and daughter had the steak with a Gorgonzola crust in a bordelaise sauce sauce and Au gratin potatoes. the steak was cooked to perfect, both taste and temperature, the sauce was a very good addition. We have eaten in the finest steak houses and Rocky's steak is right up there. So, as if the meal couldn't get better, we ordered dessert (never do, and of course i just tasted but it did test my diet resolve). My daughter got the caramel ice cream and my God, the buttery caramel taste brought me back to my days of getting ice cream at the farm in Northford. Rocky makes all of his ice cream at the restaurant. My wife got the apple tart which was also divine and perfectly prepared. I know i must sound very excited about this place been you usually can't get all three things in one place, Great service, Great Food, and Food served on time and correct! I did leave out a few things. We did order the sweet potato fries and garlic bread for an appetizer. They both came with their house made dressings which when Rocky was visiting our table I told to start selling them! If dinner is not what your looking for they have a great bar and a heated deck to eat and/or drink "outside" on the water. I don't think i can say enough good things about this great place! This is a great ANY night, any excuse place and don't dress up or dress up, you'll have a great time! read more

The location is awesome but , and yes, I'm picky with FSE that charge above average prices and have a stellar reputation. Scallops where very good but green beans not cleaned properly and awful scallop potatoes which where promptly replaced by owner with oven roasted potatoes. And even though this may sound petty and basket of upscale flatbread with herb butter or dipping oil would have been a nice touch escp. For $90.00 for one drink two entrees and a dish of ice cream. The only thing good about this spot IS the spot (on the water) and the iced tea. I had a crab cake that was the mushiest I have ever encountered and I'm assuming it was due to the horrible sauce that it was smothered in which I can't even describe. My friend had the lobster sliders which she said were barely edible but, because she was so hungry, she ate most of them. Those too were smothered in some greasy sauce and she said the lobster had no taste whatsoever and was tough. The 'bar fries' had some tasteless ranch sauce and were so salty I could barely get 2 down. We won't be back. read more

First time at this restaurant. It's deceptive from the outside. The lot was full of cars but despite that, we got a table right away. It's much larger inside than it looks! We were seated in the back right, on the water. Our waitress Megan showed up within a couple of minutes, didn't rush us, and made a great recommendation for drinks. I ordered the John Daly and it was perfect. My wife couldn't decide between a couple of different drinks; she went with the Island Girl Martini and was very happy with her selection. We started with the fried calamari and weren't disappointed. It was lightly battered, fresh, and not over cooked. I had the fish sandwich with a generous helping of sweet potato fries. They certainly didn't skimp on the fish either! My wife ordered the BBQ shrimp wrap. She asked for no tomatoes and ranch instead of mayo. It came out just as she ordered it - perfect! Instead of dessert we ordered another round of drinks and hung out to enjoy the atmosphere. We never felt rushed and had a very nice meal. We would definitely go back and recommend it to friends and family. read more
