Great food. Waitress Rachel was attentive and amazing. My party tipped extremely well - probably 25%. Just as we were finishing our drinks the Hostess, an older lady, informed us that parties were waiting to be seated and we needed to leave. We were shocked! One of our party members grew up in the area and said that had never happened to her before. The next night some of our friends were there, and the very same thing happened to them, by the very same woman! However, our friends informed the Hostess that they would not be leaving yet. It is a nice, clean fancy restaurant to take your date to at night if you have good money, but there's a few flaws. I don't know about the craft beer selection here as I don't drink, but the food here is really expensive. I guess if you like food that you can't really get up here in the Northwoods, this is great! Service was busy on 6/30/2015, but I shouldn't say "bad". The servers and cooks seem to be doing a great job. But here's the big ripoff; it's $2 for a soft drink and it comes in a can, so it's $2 for a can of Coke. What a bummer! I had a walleye fish sandwich, served with kettle chips. All was good food, but for $12, I think I would get much bigger portions for less over at the bars across the street. I'll go with 3 stars because of the friendly ambiance and because I'm on vacation. Great atmosphere: northern Wisconsin meets classy. Come casual and watch the game! Very, very good service - everything was fast, especially the drinks and kids food. However, the food was completely unremarkable. Limited menu, which I personally appreciate most of the time. But I'll admit that today I was wishing for more options. All the food was very blah. Another downside, beer and wine only. I can only assume they are trying to get that full liquor license. I'm a Wisconsin girl, but several things on the menu were too cheesy, even for me. I had the Buffalo Chicken pizza. I most certainly ate it with gusto but it was way too cheesy, as was the kids cheese pizza and the the spinach artichoke dip. Top notch north woods restaurant, I haven't been anywhere like it north of Green Bay. Great beer selection and a good selection of sandwiches and appetizers, for a decent price. This place is expensive but very high quality. I was very surprised to see the quality and diversity of draft and bottled beers. The food is excellent. My son said the philly cheesesteak pizza was 'ridiculous', which is a good thing;) I had the prime rib sandwich. The only thing that would have made it better is if the horseradish sauce had a bit more bite. If you like high quality draft beer and high quality gastropub food, you won't be disappointed. I feel like my original review was unfair. I was just traveling through the area and wasn't aware of the restaurant's situation. Looking back it was mostly my own bad mood that made the experience unpleasant. Old review: Panini sandwiches seem to be the main feature of this restaurant. While decent, none of them are very good and they don't even have some of the more basic options for a panini. The beer selection was indeed quite good, and if I was rating this establishment solely on that, this would have been a four star review. If you like pork on everything and consider potato chips from a bag an acceptable side dish, I suppose this would be a good place for you. If you want a good panini sandwich and a side of something good and made by the restaurant, you're out of luck. The wait staff was painfully slow and woefully incompetent. My table of three waited about thirty minutes after asking for the check before the waitress returned with our checks (and of course they were all messed up and needed to be reworked). Great place to eat at while in Boulder Junction! My husband and I split the pretzel appetizer and loved how doughy (and hot!) the pretzels were. We each also got a beer (him, a sour, me the Blueberry Wheat) and both were really good. I ordered the Walleye sandwich for dinner and it was the best fish sandwich I've ever had. My husband got the prime rib sandwich and I only got to try it because he got full--it was so delicious he didn't want to put it down! Both were served with kettle chips and a pickle, and were huge portions. We noticed how good the other food options (maybe 20 total menu options) were as we were leaving, but will definitely be back! read more

The owner contacted me via Yelp to offer a complimentary meal... And that's fine I suppose. But really? I'd have to be asking for a "booger sandwich" at that point. And I'd expect that from any restaurant. He also said that half off is the customary way customers are "dealt with". Never in my 20 plus years of dining out have I heard of that. We go out to eat on average 2 times a week. I've returned maybe 4 dishes in that time. Never have I had to argue with people about the food. Never have I been asked to pay half for food that was improperly prepared. He mentioned that the panini maker was malfunctioning. Frankly, I don't care if it was because the bus boy turned off the oven, or if a sudden draft extinguished the flames... Sending over two men to intimidate myself and two women is ridiculous. And yes, that's what it was- a complete shake down. Half off? Really? McDonalds doesn't even do that. We are talking about 5$ at this point. Hardly life changing for anyone. If it happens frequently enough for it to be problem, or for there to actually be a "policy" on the matter, well, it must be a sign. Essentially forcing a patron to pay for half of a mistake is absurd. I don't care if it's five cents, it's not my fault the panini maker didn't work right or whatever. Almost everywhere else we went in BJ we were greeted happily and left at least generally satisfied. This place needs a serious attitude adjustment. The last thing I would ever do from any restaurant is ask for "a different dish" after attempting to send the first back. And at this joint? Ha! What if I don't like the second one? Oops, another half price meal I can't eat. Hmmm... No thanks. But again, it warrants repeating. The beer here was great. The locals we chatted with at the nearby bar confirmed that it is their go to beer tap. To be fair, they also mentioned never having a problem with the food. Course they couldn't tell me why they weren't eating there at that time, or why they can't remember the last thing they had to eat at AAH... Long story short ish, all three of us left feeling bullied. For 5 bucks. Cmon. We certainly didn't feel welcome. And we felt bad for the teenager that had to deal with this ridiculous situation through no fault of her own. Two of us left hungry. The chop was great, juicy and flavorful, and the sides were also executed properly and well seasoned. Great beer list, filling sandwiches. Best place to visit in Boulder Junction, take that back... BEST Place place to visit in Villa County! They go above and beyond in customer service (which is very important to me and my family). But on top of that they have a great beer selection and really tasty food. My family and I have tried everything from their pretzel appetizer to their prime rib sandwich to a BLT pizza, everything was outstanding! The owners are super attentive and are willing to answer any questions you may have. (Which is funny because we didn't even realize we were talking to one of the owners until later in the conversation). Just give it a try you will not regret it. read more

Love everything about this place. Food was amazing, waiter was hilarious and friendly, good ambiance and vibe. They had a couple playing violin and guitar for a few hours while you ate. After two years, Aqualand Ale House still rates as one of the top eateries in this quaint town. We stopped in for lunch this past weekend. The place was very busy, with several 'regulars' having their food and beer at the spacious bar. We started with the Boulder Bakery pretzels. They were very good...soft and fresh. The three dipping sauces they came with were also exceptional. We then shared two wood-fired pizzas. The BLT pizza was amazing and the Apple-Onion pizza was a close second. Do not pass up dessert. The house-made desserts we tried were exceptional. Over 20-beers on tap. The ones we tried were all very good, including one of their house beers, 'Musky Spit.' Service by Taylor was very friendly and efficient! This place is a must to stop at if you're in this beautiful neck-of-the-woods. read more

Wish I could say this place lives up to the way it looks. Atmosphere is fantastic- still northwoodsy but clean, new and modern. They have an excellent beer list as well. Food: half of our party got pizzas, which the menu boasts are "wood fired". They came out looking (and tasting) like frozen pizzas. The crust was far too uniformly circular to be fresh and didn't have that crispy crunch that a fresh, wood fired crust has. They were also pretty small in portion size for $10 a pop. We ordered spinach artichoke dip and jalapeño popper dip for starters and while the dips were good, they served them with a very small amount of bread/veggies to dip. The one thing that was really tasty was the salads. The chicken Caesar was really good- especially since a good salad in this neck of the woods is like finding a unicorn. Service was pretty bad. It wasn't because the girl was bad, but more that they should have had more staff working. It appeared that there were only 2 servers working the whole dining room which resulted in us waiting much longer than we should have for our drinks and much longer than that for our bill. We are always looking for a great place for dinner in BJ, sad to find out that this isn't it. The place has so much potential but sadly missed the mark. read more

We went here with some friends the other night and we are planning our second trip there already! It's a beautiful building and the owners seem to have a rich history- shown through fascinating pictures and wall art. We can with a large group during a busy time, but were treated well. We got drinks while we waited and were seated within 30 minutes. The service was very friendly and attentive! And the food was excellent. Most of us ordered pizzas. Not a big deal in my book but may be for some folk since fish fry on Friday is a staple in Wisconsin. We also tried the pretzel appetizer which was good. I can also recommend the musky spit beer. Aqualand is an awesome place! Great craft beer selection and some good wines, though a limited selection. Their food choices are excellent- something for everyone. I love that there is no deep fried foods. Baked walleye sandwich, prime rib sandwich and pizza is our favorite. Neat up north atmosphere. They expanded and now have a nice outdoor patio complete with camp fire and sometimes live music. read more

We ate at Agualand as part of a wedding dinner for 50 folks. The venue is really nice, the food and beverages excellent, and the staff wonderfully attentive. Selection of beers included some of Aqualand's own. I had their brown ale and milk stout - both excellent. Also, Sprecher Root Beer on draft - a real treat for a root beer fan. Salmon cooked in parchment was succulent. And the best coleslaw I've ever tasted. Way to go Aqualand! read more

We visited this establishment on a cold, Thursday evening and were surprised to see quite a few others there as well. It's a well constructed building with a contemporary northwood look - new rustic, if there is such a thing! The four of us ordered shaved prime rib sandwiches and two different individual pizza's - one with BBQ pulled pork and one with chicken, spinach cranberry. All entrees were delicious! We finished up with raspberry chocolate cheesecake and french press coffee! All was rich and satisfying! Our waitress was great and the owners are very friendly! We chatted with them for at least 10 minutes before leaving. All in all, a very nice experience! I highly recommend visiting the restaurant, noting they are closed Sun, Mon and Tuesday. The atmosphere is quaint and the homebrewed beers were good. The food was okay and the service was a little pokey. Not to say that the service wasn't friendly but they could have picked up the pace. Great beer selection. They have Toppling Goliath from Decorah, IA which has been consistently voted has one of the best brews in the world. Some of the best wait staff I have seen for a moderately priced pub. The walleye sandwich is terrific. The pizza is average due to the sugary pizza sauce and sub par dough. Overall, a fantastic place. Ambience, staff, and brew selection are it's best qualities. read more

We went to Aqualand on New Years Eve. The place is very warm and cozy and the host and server were friendly. We were seated and handed a menu... And the only option was a $50 4-course meal that included a drink. To me, it is a little ridiculous to include a drink in the price when not everyone drinks. Also, to charge $50 for a meal in the tiny town of Boulder Junction was a little silly. The food was pretty good; the steak was very tender and flavorful. I forget what appetizer we had but it was a little greasy. The restaurant had live music the night we were there. The band was far too loud for the small restaurant and it was hard to talk to people at your table. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant on a night where there was not live band or special menus. read more

A great addition to the north woods of Wisconsin! A friend and I drove over from Eagle River last night and enjoyed a great meal. The place was hopping when we arrived, and we were immediately offered a seat at the bar while we waited for our table. A very nice bar menu of beers on tap, wine and others. Everyone was really attentive during our short wait (about 10 minutes) and we were seated. The atmosphere of this place is great. Nice lighting, plenty of windows to look out into the woods, and the place was lively but not so loud that my friend and I couldn't have a conversation. The hostess and the waitress both were friendly and prompt. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip which was flavorful and full of spinach and artichokes...probably the best version of this dip I have had It was served with pita chips AND veggies which was a nice touch. We split a Philly Steak sandwich and the Onion and Apple Flatbread Pizza both of which were flavorful and done well. At the end of our meal the owners came over and introduced themselves and checked to make sure that everything was to our liking which it was! I always look forward to a trip to the north woods and Aqualand Ale House is another great reason to come back! read more

Stopped by for a late lunch, and we were more than happy we did. Started with the mushroom rice soup and the sausage stuffed mushrooms. Both very tasty, particularly the stuffed mushrooms. We then had the prime rib and pulled pork sandwiches. So so good!! The prime rib was tender and full of flavor. Even better, the pulled pork sandwich - consisting of pork, cheddar, Granny Smith apples with a caramel dipping sauce - is not to be missed. We've travelled to many places and this sandwich ranks as one of the best. The whole grain bread and ciabatta were also exceptional. Aqualand has well over a dozen (if not two dozen) beers on tap, the atmosphere is great, and the service is welcoming and friendly. We will definitely stop back. Highly recommended. read more

4.5 stars if I could. What a refreshing change of pace from typical Northwoods fare! We had the shrimp appetizer, the Cuban Pannini and, a grilled flat Iron steak. Wow!! The grilled Shrimp were perfectly cooked, served hot, with a small loaf with 3 dipping flavors tucked inside. Just enough of a bright taste to complement the fresh shrimp. The Cuban Pannini was crisp and flavorful. The steak was seared to an exact medium-rare, served with piping hot roasted reds, and a ramekin of (very) tasty homemade baked beans. Tired of the deep-fried, Sysco-sourced, microwaved meals that are common in the Northwoods? Go here for a real meal. The chef is a genius. Service a bit distracted but they're still new at it, so I'm givin 'em a break. read more
