We went for a belated anniversary dinner and got the chef's tasting menu. Before anything else I just can't wait to talk about the dessert - the bird's nest. This rating may as well be for just that because it was so so standout. I've never eaten anything so beautiful. And it was one of the most delicious desserts I could ever dream of eating. After the fact it feels like the entire meal was leading up to it. Everything else was of course good, and beautiful, but the birds nest was really just in a league of it's own. Definitely one of my most memorable bites of the year. I love that the kitchen is just beyond some huge glass panes so I could see the movement and mastery (at a distance) before me. Our meal was maybe 3 hours which was perfect because we were able to amble here after watching a taping of the late show with stephen colbert and then run out to meet some friends at midtown. The little containers of sea salt they left us with were also so cute. Unfortunately my bf was still a little hungry but i was feeling great after the meal. We celebrated Valentine's with the Chef Tasting Menu at Aquavit and it was one of the best meals we have this year. The service was Michelin level which includes very knowledgeable staff that are friendly and polite. The menu is very seafood forward which we absolutely love. The langoustine was extremely tasty and the combination of sauces, seafood and the visuals are on point. The bird's nest is such a wonderful delight which includes dessert eggs that has shells that you can crack with your utensil with yolk that flows out. The first two-star Michelin star restaurant I ever went to. The service and presentation of the food definitely stood out. As well as the alcohol list they had on iPads. But the food didn't impress me aside from dessert. The environment and some of the food felt sterile too. I made a reservation for lunch a day before because I wanted to try the tasting menu. The restaurant was surprisingly empty and all the people inside were seated far away from each other. The cost was surprisingly reasonable. None of the entrees impressed me other than the Béchamel sauce with fish. No fancy restaurant worth its salt would screw up a classic mother sauce like Béchamel sauce though. The bird's nest dessert was so impressive that it deserves its own paragraph on this review: It was worth the extra twenty dollars. We opted for the 3 course prix fixe menu to sample more variety, which may be only available during lunch (?) Butternut squash soup - exactly what you'd expect, creamy and subtle Matches herring - a bite including everything savory herring, creamy potato and rye crisp is heavenly Swedish meatball - tender meatballs with a good bouncy texture, the creamy puree goes well with the slightly acidic lingonberry sauce and pickled cucumber Wagyu short rib - a miss for us, short rib had a tough exterior and a tad bit stringy interior. We were expecting tender and melt in your mouth bites. These cubes definitely give you a good chew. Wanted to try somewhere nice to spend our anniversary and the holidays so grabbed a weekend dinner reservation right at open. We were greeted on entry for coat check and led to our table. The service was great and as you'd expect from a fine dining experience. All the folks that helped us at our table were prompt, friendly, and present without being overbearing. We don't often have Scandinavian cuisine so the food itself was a pleasant surprise. Delicious all around with great flavors across the board. Even the desserts were very nice. One of my childhood friends was in town so naturally he wanted to check out a Michelin restaurant since our hometown doesn't really have many. We did the chef's tasting menu and from the first bite, it was SO good. Everything had such creative flavor profiles and unique combinations. The cocktails were also really good, we're not usually a fan of mescal but they had a mescal cocktail that was out of this world! Probably the best mescal cocktail we ever had. Highly recommend getting that. My friend at one point ordered the Dirty Monk and it was hard for us to drink cause it was so strong. We could tell it was good for what it was so if you enjoy martinis, that is your drink. Service was very attentive and not try too hard like how some fancy establishments can be sometimes. Overall, it is definitely worth two michelin stars and would recommend to anyone who wants to feel transported back to Scandinavia. This is more of a 4.5 star review and it is for their bar seating since it was a last minute dinner plan. We've dined at their main dining room previously and throughly enjoyed it and was thrilled to find out they also offer a la carte service in their bar area. We came on a Sunday night at 7pm and the bar area was quiet; we were seating right away. Their menu was still expansive and offers many choices for you to choose from. My husband and I decided to each order a 3 course meal of different dishes so we can share and the following are what we ordered and my thoughts on each dish: CHILEAN SEA BASS CROQUETTES: comes with 5 little bite size croquettes, perfectly fried and crispy without being too oily. It was piping hot when it came out and there were a good amount of sea bass chunks inside. The citrus onion aioli helped bring out the freshness of the fish and also balanced out the greasiness. CHILLED CORN SOUP: creamy yet refreshing. A very strong con flavor with corn puree with an added texture. It was paired with a danish which was warm, buttery and flaky. It's the perfect soup for a hot summer day. SHRIMP SKAGEN: this was something we ate a lot while we were in Copenhagen and I'm so glad this one is just as good. The shrimps were fresh and sweet, refreshing and citrusy and paired well with their brioche, which was buttery and crunchy. SOFT SHELL CRAB: unfortunately, this was my least favorite dish for the night. it was crispy but I found it a little too oily. The sauerkraut wasn't sour enough for me to balance out the grease. I would skip this dish next time. ATLANTIC COD: this dish is not the most aesthetically pleasing to the eye but it was very aromatic when it was brought out to our table. The fish itself was extremely moist, tender and flaky; something that's difficult to achieve with cod. The greens gave it some crunch and the yuzu broth was flavorful and refreshing. This was one of our favorite dish. LOBSTER: presented beautifully. The lobster itself was succulent and buttery. The bisque was rich, smooth and creamy without being too heavy. This is also a very solid dish. RHUBARB MILLE FEUILLE: refreshing built with various ingredients offering different texture within a bite. The Mille feuille was crunchy and buttery uniquely paired with a rhubarb gelato which provided a subtle hint of sweetness. We enjoyed this dessert very much. STRAWBERRY PROFITEROLE: I loved the combination of this dish. The profiterole was light and airy, filled with strawberry sorbet which was refreshing and sweet. It was also topped with oolong tea cream and candied ginger which balanced out the sweetness of the other ingredients. When you eat everything together, it was the perfect harmony of flavor and texture. I would come back for this dessert. Overall, this was a solid meal. Our server was very friendly and attentive price is also very reasonable. At the risk of sounding pretentious: this is a great starter to your fine dining journey! The staff is super accommodating and friendly. I had the distinct pleasure of being the rare few customers who did not show up on in the reservations system despite having a confirmation email and the staff was flummoxed, but also nice in handling the error. I did the three course prix fixe and it was surprisingly enough food to keep me filled for hours. To start there was a roll with an onion forward butter. The Matjes Herring was briny and salty. The Ora King Salmon was so tender! Yet yielded a crispy skin. And the veggies surrounding it gave it a nice, fresh component. I ordered a fig and cardamom aquavit to accompany my lunch and...boy oh boy I can see how the Icelanders survive the winter. The aquavit leaves such a warmth in your chest after every sip. Would recommend if you're looking for a unique drink. To be honest; I was a little disappointed with the flavoring of both dishes. And maybe it's my high expectations but, I wanted more complex flavors. Something to wow me. Both dishes gave off primarily salt, dill and butter. Which are not bad! But I craved more. The absolute favorite moment of my day was the artic birds nest dessert. Not only is it absolutely gorgeous but it hits every single dessert flavor note you can dream of: creamy, crispy, sweet, tart, floral and chocolately. This dish has it all and it all compliments each other perfectly. If every dish were as complex as that dessert, I would've been a happy camper! With a drink, dessert, and tip, my lunch ran about $130, which was not bad for Michelin rated fine dining. Overall, I think if you want to test the fine dining waters, give Aquavit a try! The service is fantastic. Each bite makes you roll your eyes to the back of your head and scream "oh my goodness," because you think it's the best bite of food you have ever had, and then you have another one and it just keeps getting better. I love how unique it is relative to everything else you can find in the city, in terms of the type of cuisine it is and the way they fuse each ingredient together. I love the little goodie bag they give you with the fancy finishing smoked salt and the meal's menu. I love how carefully crafted each dish is. It's not often that you find yourself experiencing exquisite Swedish fine dining. Being Swedish, this was an absolute treat. Cocktail wise, please delight in the Depeche Mode. It's a bourbon based cocktail with a sweet counterpart of pineapple. We enjoyed the chefs tasting menu- starting off with the most interesting melange of elk tartar and a pumpkin spiced gummy. What an awesome experience here. We tried the seven course meal and loved every bite. There was a nice mix of lighter and heavier dishes ranging from fish to meat and other things. The Scandinavian touch was very interesting. The restaurant is very nice but comfortable. The dining space is relatively small. For as small as some of the courses appeared, we were pretty full at the end of the meal. I can't remember the exact dishes but everything was amazing. We particularly liked the mussel and other fish we were served. As for drink, I tried a Boulevardier and found it to be really good. The Aquavit gin tasting was also very interesting. They had a horseradish flavor and a lingonberry flavor alongside two others. Overall, I'd recommend Aquavit as it provides one of the nicest meals in New York. read more

Never had fancy Scandinavian food! Haven't really had that much exposure to Scandinavian food at all! Besides ikea, and whatever they served on Icelandic air. I was quite pleasantly surprised by aquavit! The interior feels modern, upscale, and very calm. I like the open kitchen where you can see the chefs hard at work. I was thoroughly impressed by how smooth their operations were, both in the kitchen, and on the floor. My friends and I got the 5 course tasting menu, which I felt like was a sufficient amount of food. The price point was also fair. Standout dishes were that tartar tart that was served as an amuse bouche. It was a burst of flavors and textures that were soo delightful. The Chilean sea bass was also really well done. The tomato and other fermented vegetables as well as the broth were perfect accompaniments to the delicate fish. The iberico pork was also soo good. The meat was so tender, and perfectly cooked. I was disappointed by the scallop and cauliflower dish. Overall, it was good, but the cauliflower foam it came with, as well as the other fermented vegetables overpowered the scallop :c it kinda felt like the scallops were just added as an afterthought for a different texture. Service was immaculate, which was to be expected. Everything was so smooth, and we felt very well taken care of throughout the whole meal. I like Scandinavian food. With that said, it's not exactly my first pick when it comes to burgers. I thought I was a burger purist. I lurvv beef. So when I realized there was a SHRIMP BURGER - I immediately questioned it. I genuinely don't know what it's called on the menu. All I know is it's something that I couldn't pronounce and doesn't specifically say "burger" - I just heard the word from our waiter and at first I thought he was mistaken. I probably asked him to describe it 2-3 times, because my brain wasn't accepting it. I wasn't in the mood for teeny scandanavian snack food & I was hangry; so I leaned into it. I was being a brat that night and I thought it would just be ooookay. I ordered it out of spite if I'm being honest. I wanted to be proven right -- beef is required for a good burger isn't it!!!? Spoiler alert!! I was very wrong. How do I describe this burger?? ... Smoky, incredibly savory, perfect accompaniments, amazing bun, texturally superior. In short : good shit. The patty is ridiculous. It's molten spiced shrimp covered in an amazingly crunchy breading. The sauce is chaotic good. It's so saucy that it exploded in my mouth in the good way. I'm not being salacious. It's incredibly moist and ridiculously satisfying. The salad on the side had me chewing greens like a little Billy goat. This restaurant is Michelin rated - clearly high quality. Amazing service. Cocktails fire. But the star of the show was this burger. I won't ever forget it. And you need to taste it. read more

Delicious meal at Aquavit! Visited 9/2025 with some menu changes - I did the signature tasting menu. Dining room is expansive with very comfortable seating, large tables with ample spacing and intimate vibes. Staff all performed like choreographed and very attentive and nice without being overbearing. The initial dishes started off good with amuse that were savory and whetted the appetite. The fluke and cucumber had an interesting taste - the cucumber came through strongly but in a pleasant way as a paste that I really enjoyed. The scallop was flavorful and cooked nicely and tasted great with the foam. The caviar and apple dish paired well with the saltiness contrasting sweeter apple taste. The langoustine and lemon was beautifully presented and tasted fantastic - tender/soft, with mixed tastes of sweet and some bitter. Chilean seabass had wonderful texture, perfectly cooked and the broth just tasted great The Elysian lamb was the highlight - wish it was bigger! The sauces were so flavorful and built the savoriness of the lamb which was cooked perfectly. There was some crunchy textures to offset the softness, it was all just so delicious The bread was a miss for me - it just tasted off and the butter was a bit bitter. Finally the Arctic bird's nest - lives up to the reputation with a gorgeous presentation and complex flavors and textures that all came together amazingly. There was sweetness, some bitterness to offset, the white chocolate and eggs were so yummy together. I can't remember having a dessert looking that tasted just as amazing as it looks. What a stunning way to end a great meal. Overall had a fantastic dinner and such a privilege to experience it and have chef Emma's signature dessert, but her other courses tasted fantastic. Had been wanting to try this place out for quite some time, but hadn't ever been able to work it in. We were staying fairly nearby this trip, so we decided to make it a Friday lunch destination. Absolutely everything was stellar, from the knowledgeable service that was very welcoming and friendly without becoming too casual for such a place to the spare but appropriate decor to the wonderful food. We did the three-course prix fixe (which at $85 is not cheap, but you could certainly spend as much or more for something not as good in NYC). I had the scallop starter (only one scallop, but with the pea puree, fava beans, and other accompaniments, it didn't seem skimpy) and the cod entree. The fish portion was perfect for lunch and the presentation and flavors of both were impeccable. Dessert is a particular specialty here. I had the princess cake, covered in that incredible marzipan, and it was truly impressive. My friend had the arctic bird's nest, which topped even my cake in presentation, and apparently it takes three days to make all the elements (no wonder there's a $20 supplement for that one). But it was truly memorable. Our servers were kind and chatted just the appropriate amount, making sure that we were fully pleased with the entire experience. The decor is Scandinavian-sparse, but the light woods with just enough color to accent make it feel crisp and clean and provide a pleasant environment while letting the cuisine be the star. I don't have a bad thing to say about it and plan to return next time I visit Manhattan. read more

Some of the flavors in this meal were remarkable, the butternut squash soup had an amazing smoky flavor which made it the best version I've ever had. The scallop was truly excellent and the desserts (especially the Arctic bird's nest) were memorable. The service was impeccable and on par with what was expected from a two star. Overall, there was beautiful presentation, exceptional preparation and fantastic service. However, I'm not quite at a 5 because there are just some aspects of the menu I've seen before and seem to lack the originality (the salmon in particular) that can make a dining experience like this truly exciting. Service was phenomenal and the food was incredible. For the lunch menu you can order a 2 course, 3 course, or full tasting menu. What we didn't know is that if you order the 2 course, you can order mix-match your two courses (i.e. 2 desserts OR 1 appetizer and 1 dessert OR 1 entrée and 1 dessert, etc.). We got appetizers and entrees for our two course which fluke crudo & shrimp toast skagen and both got the cod entrée. We also ordered lattes and I got a lingonberry aquavit. For my birthday they were gracious enough to provide a complimentary princess cake which was delectable. Not to mention lunch is at a great and approachable price point. What an over-the-top terrific dining experience at Aquavit! Simple, and elegant Norwegian decor adorned the space with fur-ensured comfort at table side chairs. Tastefully Scandinavian. The associates were warm, professional and very knowledgeable about menu and beverage options. Upon presentation, every course was explained in delicious detail. The offerings off their Signature Cocktail list were exquisite. I personally recommend the lovely "Misty Mountain Hop" with mezcal, green chartreuse and sambuca. The fresh, warm rolls with herbed tomato butter were a good starter. I chose the Matjes Herring appetizer with rye crisp and tiny dollops of sour cream - excellent. My entree was the Swedish Meatballs with lingonberry, and cucumber on a creamy potato purée. It was to die for! I finished with a terrific cup of fresh brewed coffee and Princess cake with marzipan and raspberry. What a fine ending! Aquavit is a beautiful restaurant. The decor is traditional Scandinavian- wonderful light woodwork & traditional artwork. The service demonstrates why they are Michelin star rated- very professional but very friendly as well. They have a very good selection of liquor but the cost of the cocktails is not justified by the small size of the drinks. A server should always find it challenging to get a martini from the bar to the table without spilling any of the drink. Sadly, the martini's here are in small glasses that are not filled to the rim. Regarding the food, if you are Scandinavian, you will be very familiar with the menu. While we truly liked all of the dishes we tried because they represented food that we have enjoyed all of our lives, the portion sizes were unusually small (even for Scandinavian food) which in turn, made the cost of dinner disappointing. Came to celebrate my husband's birthday and it didn't disappoint. Loved the minimalistic vibes and how you can see the chefs through the glass partition. Their Christmas lunch was the perfect holiday treat - we started with a buffet style assortment of small bites. Really fun, something that I've never seen at a Michelin star restaurant, and you got to try a bit of everything. Entrees were the stars for me - every item was cooked perfectly, great flavors. Ended with their gingerbread cake rolled into a Yule log - so cute! Food, service, ambiance ALL excellent! We order the ala cart for mother-daughter outing. Everything was so good.. once again the over order so have to take one desert home (make sure we ate all the icecream) The Cod is so so good w everything came w it. My daughter Swedish meatball plate, she still dreaming about it. Appetizers were en point and the deserts are to die for.. the cappuccino is EXCELLENT and tea IS DELICIOUS. Definitely we'll be back again when we r visit NY again. Can't find any fault w this place!!! read more
