It's not your photogenic place or Instagram worthy food, just a classic French spot. Not a lot of options on the menu , its seasonal menu and keeps things simple. The aesthetic is basic and classic, but the taste is awesome. Everything has that very classic French flavor. All the dishes we ordered were extremely well done. You won't find many places in the city that take basic ingredients and turn them into something this amazing. That's probably why Michelin notable chefs were talking about this place ever since they open. The filet mignon is a must-order. it melts in your mouth, and the sauce is incredible. The trout was also excellent if you're going for a lighter meal. However, if you're looking for a lot of textures and mixed flavors like in Asian cuisine, this probably isn't the place for you. It's a small, cozy restaurant with only 12 tables. Most of the tables for two are very close to each other. It's good for dates if you don't mind having someone overhear your conversation. I was looking for a nice place with good food and a quiet/ intimate ambiance to celebrate my first month anniversary with my husband since our wedding. Luckily, I was able to snag at 10:15pm reservation on a Saturday night at Chez Fifi! The restaurant is in a quiet residential street of the UES, and it's inside a townhouse. The dim lights, white tablecloths, mahogany paneling, velvet banquettes, and uniformed staff really elevate the ambiance and make it feel like the perfect spot for a special occasion. There are splashes of color here (wall art, patterned curtains) which give it a bit of personality without feeling over-the-top. Our waiter was great, he was very attentive to our table and able to anticipate our needs. We got some complimentary bread while we waited for our food with the best butter I've had in a while-- it was so salty and smooth and creamy--as well as two French 75s which were not on the menu but were excellent. For food we shared: - Bluefin tuna: I was expecting to be disappointed by this appetizer but I actually really enjoyed it. The price is steep but the quality of the ingredients and culinary experience made it worth it for me! The lean and fresh tuna was perfectly cubed, and paired with a creamy and tangy Hollandaise sauce which was perfection. Small bits of chives and finely diced red onion added an extra punch. The Osetra caviar was high quality and the portion was generous-- it added a very smooth and rich saltiness that really tied the dish together. Would get again! - Txangurro: or Basque deviled crab-- this was also amazing. It really reminded me of the flavor profile of a Cioppino with the acidity of tomato and tanginess of the wine. The crab meat was sweet and abundant, perfectly pairing with the very subtle flavors of the sauce. It came with perfectly crispy and thin crostini. Another hit, would order again! Perfect balance of flavors and textures. - Steelhead trout: fresh, bright, and a nice seafood spring dish. It was a perfect transition before our next dish. It came with fava beans, artichokes, trout roe, and this delicious citrusy but buttery sauce. The fillets were perfectly cut and so tender. Very delicious and surprisingly complex. A very good option if you are craving a lighter fish dish, especially if you order it with another side. - Filet mignon au poivre: now to the star of the show-- I will say I'm not a huge connoisseur of steak frites and only really seek them out when I am in a celebratory mood, but these were amazing! The filet mignon was so tender, easy to cut, and cooked perfectly medium rare. The pepper sauce was creamy, and had the right amount of pepper in it to highlight the umami of the meat without being overpowering. The fries were very good. They had a nice crisp and weren't overdone inside. The bite of steak+fries+ sauce was heavenly! Would add to my death row meal. - Chocolate mousse: beautiful presentation, very rich and not super sweet. This is definitely a dessert you want to share. The chantilly was light and creamy which balanced out the decadent mousse. The consistency was runnier, more like a pudding which, for me, did not personally feel thick enough to be a mousse. Would probably not order again and try another dessert like the creme brulee or baba rum. - Fromage blanc ice cream: now this was amazing. Probably quite underrated but the flavors were perfect: a bit sweet but not overpowering. The ice cream is generously sized, tastes very subtly of fresh white cheese and it's paired with a sweet and a bit acidic blueberry compote.... Divine! Highly recommend. It's light, refreshing, interesting, and very pleasant on the palate. Overall, we had a very lovely dinner here. The food and ambiance were really nice and certainly allow for that "special occasion" feel. I was mildly disappointed though since I explicitly said in my reservation we were celebrating an anniversary but there was no acknowledgment of the occasion whatsoever (no candle with dessert, no congratulations) which I would have expected from a place that is so highly regarded. Need to lose their Michelin status. Terrible service. Son became French citizen June 25, 2026 and wanted to celebrate with his French in laws who came in from Paris. 1.5 hours for dinner. Tables nearby seated after us finished dinner before we got our food. Manager blamed mother in law for lateness because she "wanted her steak well done". Will never go back. Food was NOT Michelin quality. Plenty of other French tests who deserve the recognition. Disappointed isn't enough. read more

My friend invited me to dine at one of the hardest neighborhood restaurants to get into. We arrived early with the hopes of an early dinner but we were not seated until after the reservation time. We were escorted to the bar and had drinks. My friend initially ordered the Bleu Cheese Martini but it was too strong and replaced it with the Moscow Mule and I got the hot toddy, which hit the spot. Staff was welcoming and accommodating despite patrons treating us as if we are outsiders. Note to self: dress to fit in. I came straight from work but should have worn all black or neutrals. Place was small, festive and designed for locals in the neighborhood. In the mean time we were seated with a good group of girls, another foodie influencer with her mom and a local who dines at least once a week. Now to the food. We started off with the escargots and it was pretty good. Sauce was great and the snails easily came off the shell. I had to order the Txangurro and it was to die for and one of the best dishes consumed in 2025. I would definitely go back just for the crab. Now to the entrees: we ordered the poulet roti and filet Mignon au poivre. Both dishes were great and definitely worth ordering. The poulet roti was a huge dish meant for sharing for two people. This dish came with garlic roasted potatoes and salad. The chicken was a half chicken, we ate the dark meat and I took the rest home where my other half consumed it for lunch the next day. The filet Mignon au poivre was really good. The filet was cooked medium and the sauce was great. The fries was ok but the filet with sauce is definitely worth going back for. My friend took the steak home. For dessert we shared the chocolate mousse. The mousse was really good, the chocolate shavings adds another layer of flavor. I was able to get a reservation at 8:30pm for 2ppl on a Tuesday evening. My friend and I came in a little early and were able to have drinks at the bar upstairs. Small space but still lovely. Bartender was friendly and provided recommendations. I ordered the blue cheese martini, it wasn't what I thought and the bartender was nice to change it to my usual drink which is a Moscow mule. My friend had the hot toddy and enjoyed it. We were seated downstairs in the main dining area. Tables were very close to each other, but luckily we were seated next to these lovely ladies that were so friendly and provided on recommendations to order. The food was insanely spectacular. This place is my new go to spot for escargots. The txangurro was also very tasty. The escargots and crab are definitely a must order for appetizers. My friend and I shared everything, we ordered the filet mignon and frites and the poulet roti that came with potatoes and salad. The portions were generous. The filet mignon was my favorite, it was so juicy and cooked perfectly. The chicken was my least favorite, it was good but it did not wow me, would definitely try other dishes. Started off with two cocktails - one was the paloma and one was a sour with egg white. the paloma one was a bit stronger. the sour with egg white was my fav!! They also started us off with complimentary fresh and warm baguette and french butter, it was so delicious we got two rounds of it :) For apps, we got: - tuna tartare (5/5): small but mighty. the tuna was so fresh and the caviar was definitely of higher quality. - beet salad (4/5): this was really delicious and refreshing. It just wasn't out of this world and I'm not the hottest fan of blue cheese. - devil crab (5/5): heavier but perfect portion. the bread crisps it came with were a bit too hard but the crab tasted so good with the crab. perfectly savory and the crab was so thin. delicious for the main, we got: - half chicken (4.5/5): we were already feeling full at this point but this chicken was so good!! especially the chicken thigh, wing, and drumstick was so tender and the sauce was savory and complemented perfectly! the potatoes were also perfectly cooked - crisp and not too heavy. Loved the smaller pieces more since they were more crispy and less starchy. and the salad that came with the chicken absolutely perfect - light, simple, and refreshing. I even made chicken wraps out of them. then we got dessert! we were so full at this point, but you CANNOT skip out on the chocolate mousse. it's so light and melts in your mouth, basically tastes like elevated whipped chocolate and whipped cream, and the thin curls of chocolate on the top was the perfect touch. excellent meal. so happy I was able to snag a last minute reservation. read more

I absolutely adore French cuisine. So I was very excited to get dinner off of a random walk in reservation on a Tuesday. The restaurant was beautiful, bustling, and full of life. Chatty tables, attentive staff, and an overall high end vibe which is how a place like this should be. The upstairs cocktail bar is a great vibe if you have some time before you reservation. The food was solid. The complementary bread at the beginning was a win as it was served with some amazing French butter. The tuna appetizer was alright, but wouldn't order again. The crab was delectable with a unique flavor different from other crab dishes I have tried. A must try if you can get it. Same with the steak frites, the sauce was incredible and the meat was perfectly cooked. 2nd best dish of the night. The chicken is a skip for me, this place hypes up their use of "golden chickens" which they claimed was the wagyu of poultry. However, I downright thought it was bad, the flavor of the sauce was not for me. The foie gras flavor was too overpowering, but if you love it you might enjoy it. The side salad and potatoes that come with the chicken were both good as well. But nothing major For dessert we got the creme Brûlée. It was my favorite on the menu and is something I actively think and dream about. Great vanilla flavor and the custard had a picture perfect consistency. Overall Chez Fifi, is good, but not the best French restaurant in Manhattan. I would go back and get my favorites while skipping the others. You want to try probably the best steak frites I've had? It's only 70 bucks. Or maybe one of the best tuna tartares I've had. 50 bucks. I'd still go back lolz. Cocktails were great. Had a great time at Chez Fifi, my husband was able to snag a reservation for a late dinner. We arrived early and was taken to the bar, however it was super crowded so we decided to leave and wait outside. Before we headed outside, we were told that there was a table ready that was upstairs so we took it immediately. The restaurant had beautiful decorations and paintings. For food, we ordered the crab and tuna which both were very good. Since it was a late dinner we decided to share the steak frites which was cooked perfectly and served with a pepper sauce. Then for dessert, we shared a chocolate mousse, which was really good. I would give the food a 10/10. Service was great. The blue fin was exceptional. The quality was great but not surprising considering the parent restaurant. The steak was good but nothing exceptional and was mildly under seasoned. I've been wanting to try this place for a while now! The reservations were always so impossible to get at a reasonable time and I was finally able to snag a prime dinner spot. However I was a bit disappointed with the food. The filet mignon was cooked at the right temperature but when I tried to cut into the meat, there was part do the meat that were overcooked so it was like strings. But the sauce and the fries were good. I enjoyed the scallops and the blue fin tuna! Super light and refreshing for both. The salad was okay, there was really nothing special about it. The crème brûlée was great but also not life changing. Considering the price of the menu items, I didn't think it was worth it. I've gone once and I can check it off the list. The service was good and the staff was sweet! But again weighing the food and prices, I don't know if I would go back. Drinks The Blue Cheese Martini is basically drinking a cup of blue cheese and it is wonderful. If you're a blue cheese lover, order this. I was able to try 3 different wines by the glass and they were all great as well. Wound up going w/ the Chasselas which was perfect w/ our mains. Food Everything we ordered was a hit, absolutely no misses. The deviled crab and steakfrites were my absolute favorites. The omelette last night was with shrimp and not mushroom. But it was still delicious. The mushroom rice was good and the escargot was just ok. I was super excited to finally have escargot in the shell again but ultimately it wasn't very flavorful. I even had one that was empty. Chez Fifi is a cute French bistro (with some Spanish influence) tucked away in the UES. I've been trying to get a reservation for a long time but ultimately walked in a week night and was able to get seated up in their upstairs bar area. They gave us the iberico jamon by accident but we didn't mind at all! The ham was good and I really enjoyed the almonds. The chutorro bluefin tuna was very delicious with the slight citrus and creamy profile and with the addition of caviar to elevate the umami-ness. The escargot was buttery and more spinach-forward than herbacious. While I wish it had a little bit more salt, I still found myself trying to soak up the sauce with our bread. They are probably most famous for the Txangurro, which is a Basque deviled crab. The crab meat is cooked in a white vinegar sauce and then placed back into the shell. It was fragrant and perfect with any bread/cracker. We got a side of string beans and loved how you can taste the almond butter and brown butter than it is sauteed in. For desserts, the chocolate mousse was delicious and super smooth. It wasn't too sweet but you can definitely taste the chocolate and the freshness of the cream. For drinks, I got a hot spiced coconut rum which was perfect for this cold weather and holiday season. It came with this cream foam layer that was tasty. The spices, coconut flavors, and rum really came together! My partner tried an osmanthus based drink (don't remember the name). It was strong but def had a flora osmanthus aroma. The upstairs bar space is cute and intimate with vintage decor - perfect for date night and small party celebrations. We were so excited to try this new, hot restaurant. The interior is cozy and beautiful, with not many tables. There's an upstairs bar where you can also eat, which is lovely, and downstairs is the dining room, maybe only 10 tables. The service was fantastic, but unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. We ended up sending three dishes back. The foie gras was tasteless and served with a stale baguette instead of thin toast or crackers, very unusual. The escargot was rubbery. The waiter insisted we try a crab dish, so we obliged, but it tasted like old sweat socks. The Dover sole for two was filleted and served in a pan of butter broth. It was edible, but extremely disappointing. I've ordered Dover sole at every French restaurant I visit (my favorite was Le Périgord, now sadly closed). The manager came over and was very gracious, but made a comment that the restaurant is probably not for us. I found that a little condescending, unless I misunderstood the statement. I don't think it's for anyone if they're expected to eat the dishes we were served. The wines were delicious, and so was the chocolate dessert. Ordering steaks seems to be the more popular choice, but I'd go to a steakhouse for that. read more

Possibly the best French restaurant I've been to in NYC. I've been searching for this beef tartare all my life, and I've finally found it. Everything was amazing. I loved the French bread with French butter, the beef tartare, the diver scallops (so fresh), the foie gras (generous amount), salmon rillettes, escargot (soaked up the sauces with the bread), the Pommes Fifi (fried to perfection), and the chocolate mousse!!! The best part was the rib eye -- perfectly medium rare, so flavorful, and the jus with the frites! I could probably live without the omelette with truffles and the crab. Went with a friend for early dinner after managing to get a reservation. The place it's tiny and was packed, it has that bistro feel but we were sat by the door. The food was just Ok. The salad was great and fresh as was the sourdough bread. We shared the chicken as it comes with a very generous portion. It was just ok, a bit bland and does not look like it was cleaned well inside prior to cooking it. The potatoes that came with it were good and crispy, but half of them were so crispy that were burned. We skipped desert and drinks. Service was friendly. From the moment you get there when they start "pushing" the $14/bottle of Pelligrino...a waiter constantly emerges to refill your class after each sip...to the waiters' beguiling coercement that the "shared dishes just might not be enough for 2"...e.g. a $78 chicken, so you order it for one...but in reality it could feed a family of 4...to the appepitzer of asparagus at an eggregious price point, where you get exactly 2 asparagus...everything here is about promoting a "sale" and building the tab. The food is ok, though the two asparagus were so smothered in a sauce that you couldn't really taste them. So don't get lured in by the hype of "oh, it's a cool UES place." I LOVE BUTTER. the butter was very nice. between two girls, we ordered the steak+frites, crab, and chocolate mousse and a bottle of wine. we were very full afterwards. crab was interesting and yummy in the beginning but it started getttibg too salty and too redundant towards the end. and steak and frites were okay, the fries definitely stood out more than the steak. quite overhyped but i enjoyed the ambiance and esp background music. i enjoyed the chocolate mousse but i personally prefer a thicker one, i think this one definetly on the airy side read more

This was an amazing dinner experience. We had our food family style since there was a large party of us, about 15! We started off with their red cabbage salad and liver pate with jim. The flavor combination was amazing and something I haven't experience before! Farming courses we had a very well seasoned steak, chicken and crispy potatoes. Though you could easily come for the vibes, the food is all good, with a few exceptional standouts. Chez Fifi sounds like what I used to jokingly call my daughter when she took five years of French in high school and college . Her graduation gift was a trip to France where her love of French food and all it entails began. Now she lives in NYC and here we are. Chez Fifi has a lovely ambiance and the Sommelier was just incredible. I love a nice wine but my knowledge is limited. Nice to learn as you share dishes that were perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. The foie gras is made in house! Escargot? Yes ma'am and just as tasty as one would imagine. Filet was cooked perfectly with hot frites with the perfect amount of crunch with a pillowy inside. We always have to pick the star of the meal. The crab! Just go. Go now. No sense in risking a crab shortage. Will certainly return to try the dishes we missed. And who doesn't like saying Chez Fifi? I know I do, but my French accent needs a little work. read more

There's a lot of hype around this restaurant. So much so that when reservations opened up at 10 am three weeks before, there was only a 10:45 pm seating available. We ordered steak frites and the dover sole. The steak was decent but far from great. We have had MUCH better French steak in NY. The sole was rubbery and very disappointing. Completely unacceptable and in many ways shocking that a restaurant of this caliber and hype got dover sole so wrong. This is a place you go to for the ambiance and to see and be seen. It had been on my list to go here for a long time, finally I went, the reservation process was a bit difficult due to the popularity of the place.. I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere the moment I stepped inside. The decoration was made by Joyn Architecture, the 28 person cocktail lounge is quite stylish. The menu was inspired by French and Basque cuisine, Chef Zack diversified it with his touches, I tried Txanggurro and escargot as a starter, both were top notch. I chose a chicken dish for the main course, it was crispy on the outside and incredibly soft on the inside, the combination of fois gras left an unforgettable taste on the palate. Chez FiFi is a wonderful overall experience. Very cozy. As the evening went on my wife and I enjoyed this intimate place even more. Yes it was loud but not overwhelming.
