This branch is located near Grand Central Station, and they offer a varied menu of pastries, prepared food items including sandwiches, and beverages including coffee and espresso-based drinks. There's also a moderate amount of seating available along with a restroom in the rear of the cafe. I ordered a poppyseed muffin that was topped with a lemon frosting, and while it was small in size, I appreciated the flavor and the tart citrus element. This establishment was right across from our recent hotel stay in midtown NYC. Wonderful selection of sweet and savory pastries, sandwiches, fresh breads, and hot beverages. There are various locations throughout the city. I chose a poppy seed covered pastry with almond paste and a lemongrass hot tea. Both were excellent. However, service was quite slow and server not so friendly. Visited the next day with family and service was quick and friendly, and the coffee excellent. I had a drink reward to use so I ended up getting the cinnamon social latte with oat milk. I did a pre-order ahead of time, but the drink was not made when I came in and I had to wait, which I feel like defeats the purpose of order ahead. The app always gives me issues here. Once, years ago, Ole & Steen was brand new in Manhattan and we stopped by to share coffee and a pastry. And we bought their version of, I think, a loaf of rye to take home. As I recall, we were unimpressed. But today, so many years later, on our way home from Grand Central Terminal, we found something different! First of all, it's a large storefront and it was packed, almost every table full, with what appeared to be young (20s, 30s) professional people at 4 pm. Lots of chatter, lots of computers open. Couples and groups of assorted combinations huddled around the small but adequate tables. We ordered 2 decaf Americanos and shared a pastry called a raspberry spandauer, a small piece of which is pictured here. It was delicious! Perfect crust, puffy and flaky, dry and not the least bit soggy. In the center, maybe a tablespoon of raspberry jam with sliced almonds scattered on top. Very very good. The coffees are served in paper cups w plastic lids, but hot and good. They also have some small plates and sandwiches if you're there for breakfast or lunch. It'll be nice to go back and try some of those, or try another lovely pastry on another lovely mid-afternoon! read more

Let's just say I picked the RIGHT place!!! I saw from the window outside the wide assortment of fresh baked pastries and my eyes darted to the many options this cafe offered. Every bit was full of delicious cinnamon and two days later, it still tasted great. The chicken blt toastie was full of flavor. I personally didn't care for the sauce they used on the sandwich, but my friend seemed to enjoy it. The overnight oats were filling and full of actual ingredients- we could tell what's in it. Their pastry and baked goods case is loaded with breads, muffins, sweets, savory items, and cookies. They have a solid coffee menu and I ordered a macchiato which is my go-to along with a cortado if I'm visiting for the first time. It's usually my test to see if it passes for me to return. This is a great bake shop to work at! There's Wi-Fi and plenty of seating. There's also not a fight for seats at this location. I'm not that much of a coffee connoisseur, but I do drink a lot of lattes and make my own espresso and coffee drinks at home. I think a latte is worth it when it tastes better than what I can make at home (which it doesn't always), especially as I'm trying to avoid buying drinks outside. Didn't realize until biting into it that it's a Turkey Pattie. The Pattie is soft and mushy and reminds me of liverwurst, rather a rude awakening and not pleasant to say the least. The egg is medium hard, should be hard and fully cooked through. The yogurt parfait is interesting with the hard bits of granola and whatever the dark, hard and crunchy stuff is. The fruit salad is okay, could have more berries in it than cantaloupe and green melons. The oat milk latte is okay, as usual.
