I've been excited to try this spot and finally ordered food for takeout recently after a late work day. Their menu isn't huge but I can appreciate that because it shows they are preparing their foods well and know what they're doing versus trying to master a huge selection. The AR Burger is so good. We opted for French fries, but they aren't what we were expecting- they're cubed and fried pieces of potato. I needed a fork to eat them. The poke nachos are incredible. Huge fan. The food and service here is great. I've been a couple times, have had the chicken sandwich, Caesar salad, house salad, shortribs, and soups. The roasted tomato soup was excellent, and the shortribs were some of the best I've had anywhere. Come for good food, the ambiance not so much. read more

I'm not sure what magic they're working in Buellton, but the AR Restaurant and Catering off Highway 246 is an absolute gem. Our first visit we indulged in their exquisite croquettes and divine poke nachos. The croquettes were a crispy, golden delight, but it was the poke nachos that truly stole the show. Imagine delicate wonton chips, perfectly crispy and light, topped with fresh, succulent poke. The whole dish was drizzled with a creamy aioli dressing that was an explosion of flavors, reminiscent of the finest poke bowl dressing. Every bite was a taste sensation, a harmonious blend of textures and flavors that left us utterly enchanted. We also had the salmon tacos which were bursting with flavor and were cooked to perfection. Our second visit in person we were able to meet Alex himself and it was a pleasure. This visit we ordered the chipotle wings, garlic shrimp, lentil soup and of course the poke nachos. It was all so delicious. We will be coming back again and again. read more

The owner, Alex obviously knows what he's doing and has a skilled chef. We started with the Mac n cheese pork belly croquettes which were crispy and flavorful. We also tried the chipotle chicken wings which were great and trust me, we eat A LOT of wings. My blackened salmon tacos were delicious and probably the best I have ever had. My wife's chillequilles were great she said maybe the best she has ever had. Our other eater John had the AR Burger. He said it was great. In particular the bacon was crispy, the Gouda was smokey and creamy and the pork belly was an outstanding addition. What a great meal! The flavors are all perfectly balanced and you can tell that Alex puts a lot of thought into his recipes and takes pride in his craft. Can't wait to go back! read more

This place used to be awesome, and still can be, BUT, only when the owner, Alex, is there. Alex is a first class chef and his recipes are amazing. However, we've noticed that when he is not there, the cooks in the back take liberty in making their own versions of Alex's recipes, which are never anywhere near as good. For example, last time we ordered the poke nachos, it appeared and tasted as if they were drenched in nasty Tapatio sauce, which my wife, daughter and I absolutely hate! They need to understand that not everyone wants their food spicy! Also, when Alex is there, anytime I've ordered a steak dish, it was always flavorful, juicy, seasoned well and came with some kind of delicious homemade sauce. The last two times I ordered steak, when Alex was absent, it was HORRIBLE! It was dry, overcooked, completely UNSEASONED, I mean not even salt or pepper was on it! I asked for their homemade sauce that Alex usually gives us but he said they didn't have anything, not even A-1. It was so bland and disgusting I ended up taking it home and throwing it away. My wife had breakfast and ordered her eggs over medium but received them over HARD. The chef seemed confused when she told him over medium, as if he'd never heard of that style before and even asked her "you mean over easy?" It's sad because I'm sure Alex has worked very hard to build his reputation but these clown "chefs" are ruining it for him! It makes his restaurant/menu very inconsistent and you never know what you're going to get, unless Alex is there. Alex needs to crack the whip on them or get some new employees that will follow his recipes correctly. read more

My husband, daughter and I visited on an early Thursday evening and the restaurant had no other customers. We worried that we had made a mistake but were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. My daughter and I shared the salmon tacos and poke nachos and my husband had the tri-tip sandwich. The portions were generous and tasted fantastic. The service was perfect and they didn't hover, which we liked. If we lived in the area it would be a regular place for us.
