Had lunch on the deck yesterday afternoon. We had a short wait for a table. It was a beautiful Maine summer day. The harbor was sparkling and bustling with activity. We had the lobster po-boy and haddock sandwich, both served with potato salad on the side. Everything tasted great but, as indicated by previous reviewers, the amount of meat (lobster and haddock) on the sandwiches was skimpy. When you are paying $14 for a sandwich, it seems like there should be a decent amount of meat on it. Seafood is expensive, but wouldn't it be better to raise the price rather than skimp on portion size? Other restaurants in the area are charging as much as $20 for a lobster roll, so making the serving size larger and charging more for the sandwich would seem to be a viable option. read more

Good food, service and atmosphere but prices are extreme and especially the mark up on the wine. Bottom line when I pay more than a 300 percent mark up on a bottle of wine I shouldn't have to fill my own glass. That is the kind of service I would expect at those prices. Will not return. read more

phenomenal meal. what a treat to have this available in stonington. we spent the weekend up here - a retreat from normal life in portland. the waitresses were smart and delightful. serving sizes were filling, but not over the top. we ate dinner here and then brunch the next morning. 10/10 recommend the benedict. thanks! read more

Located in one of the nicest villages on the coast (w/an honest-to-god working harbor) and over the always adventurous Deer Isle bridge, this place has been on our must-eat list for a couple of whiles. So, on one of the nicest days in late August, we made the trek and were greatly rewarded. The "room" for lunch is on the deck right on the water. The server was a little brusque but otherwise very competent. The food is prepared in an open-air area right next to the queue for a table so, in case you weren't hungry enough to start with, you could (tastefully) drool while you wait. The lunch fare was really outstanding! I've consumed a lot of chowders over the years, and am here to tell you that this one is one of the best! The portion is more of a bowl and truly filled to overflowing with fish in a thinner-style broth. Great flavors and, did I mention, the bowl was just overflowing w/fish? Two of us had the halibut bahn mi sandwich which was a great blend of carrot, daikon, cilantro mayo, and other impressive stuff. I admit being slightly put off by the list of ingredients for what, after all, is a fish sandwich but it was truly wonderful w/no single ingredient dominating...a go-to feast if there ever was one! A word about the corn elotes...a truly messy dish but well worth the effort (and you quickly realize why there is a basket of extra napkins on the table). The lobster roll was fine, but I don't think as special as the halibut. Looking forward to going back for dinner! read more

We ate there the Saturday after Thanksgiving and had a fantastic night. The Oysters were awesome - our favorite was the ones with Champagne granita. Charcuterie plate was awesome as well with the Eggemoggin Fog (cheese) being my personal favorite item. I had the duck which was a perfectly cooked duck breast with crispy skin topped with some duck leg confit and loved it. My wife had the Veal chops which were equally awesome! others had a perfectly cooked filet mignon and some great crab stuffed local flounder. All the dishes looked great and had plenty of food. nobody went hungry. Aragosta is a great addition to the area and I can't wait to go back again! read more

Great spot for a meal. Quaint place right on the water with open windows overlooking the harbor. The service was exceptional and the staff efficient and friendly. We started with the little lamb ribs and the quail tempura. Unfortunately, the ribs were mostly fat which if crispy I could have eaten, but as it was I could not. What little meat I did find was very flavorful. Still, I was disappointed that this would be served. My husband enjoyed his quail, although had he read the description he would not have as he is not big on tempura. We both got the lobster ravioli as this dish has been getting rave reviews. It was very, very good. The sauce was exceptional. The portion size was huge, for us. As eaters, my husband and I don't feel like a pasta dish should be overwhelmed by the sauce, no matter how exceptional it is. It was way too much. A nice generous drizzle would have sufficed. Your mileage may vary. Also, the ravioli was thicker than we like, which might be necessary to hold the generous amount of lobster. But we were hoping for a more delicate dish. The bread on the other hand was absolutely exceptional. All in all, it's doubtful we would return as the food is heavy and the portion sizes are much too much for us. But if you like good food and you like a lot of it, and you don't mind that it's going to be a heavy meal, I recommend it highly. read more

Aragosta is right in the center of town and in my heart! I have never had a bad experience nor do I predict any in the future. Everything on the menu is not only spot on but also delicious. The views are spectacular, the design is beautiful, and the overall atmosphere is upbeat. The staff is also very familiar with the menu, I have always valued their recommendations. Last time I was in I ordered a seafood dish paired with The Oyster Wine, and I think I died and went to heaven!!! read more

If "dining" on the deck between 5 and 7, there is little of substance other than lobster and steak. Beware! Otherwise lovely setting and charming waitstaff. Dining room has an impressive menu but stuffy environs. read more

"Gorgeous" would be how I'd describe dinner at Aragosta. Located in Stonington's picturesque downtown, the place has absolutely stunning views of the water, which you can see while you're eating. The building itself has a lovely feel--very classic Maine--and the inside is decorated very elegantly. Now the food--so, so, so delicious (that it deserved three sos). The meal had multiple dishes, and each was deserving of admiration for its plating and taste. For dinner, I ordered the duck, which was cooked perfectly and seasoned splendidly. Even the breadsticks, which were served with an herbal butter spread, were mouthwatering. The waitressing was very nice, too, and the food was presented with great timing. Aragosta is a gorgeous restaurant, a true fine dining experience, and I'd love to go back there again. read more

Superb dining in Stonington. Aragosta, recently opened, has already staked its claim as one of New England's finest new restauants. The service is outstanding, the food and presentation of the highest caliber. We can highly recommend the lobster ravioli, the cheese plate, and the fresh, clean, and briny local oysters. Our only complaint is that Aragosta isn't closer to us so we could get there more often. This restaurant deserves the highiest acclaim. It is truly excellent. read more

Delicious and creative dishes. My wife enjoyed a farmers salad, and lobster tortellini. Myself I enjoyed mussels with fried kale, which were the best I've ever had. And grilled steak for entree, which was cooked perfect. There was a sorbet course that was basil lemon, yum. Desserts were beautifully presented and so delicious. read more

Tiny portion sizes and food does not come as advertised. When my wife had a complaint because her food did not come back as ordered there was no one accountable. Great view. But you are certainly paying for it and not the food or service. read more

Had late lunch on a weekday, a good time to visit since the harbor is busy and you get a bird's eye view from the patio. My lobster po-boy (a po-boy in Maine, who knew?) was tasty and filling. Some decent beers on tap to wash it down. I look forward to returning next summer. read more

Last night we splurged and were blown away by the 7 course "Chef's Tasting Menu" and have not stopped talking about it yet! Every course ~ an ample portion ~ uniquely blended the freshest of ingredients. The tempura fried Squash Blossom stuffed with summer corn and mascarpone remained lighter than air. The Sugar Snap Pea Salad with luscious lamb salami and slivered pickled shallots and rainbow beets got 5 stars when dressed with an egg, soft cooked to perfection. We argued that the Pork Ragu with arugula tagliatelle and blistered tomatoes was as amazing as the Veal Osso Bucco ~ oh, that marrow! But then could not bear to ignore the impeccable creativity that went into the preparation of the Yellow Fin Tuna in gingered broth nor the butter poached Lobster Ravioli. Sigh. We may need to go back for more data and another chance at that dessert platter. Beyond delicious! Adding to the experience was the excellent service, beautiful decor, well-priced wine list and the gorgeous custom dinnerware that nestled each course perfectly. The result gave new meaning to the term "signature dish." Bravo, Chef Devin Finigan.....well done! Next time, come out of the kitchen so we can give you a round of applause! read more

Have been here twice for Sunday brunch. The best eggs Benedict I have ever had anywhere and I get them everywhere. Poached eggs cooked to perfection and the hollandaise is light and flavorful. My wife had the potato waffle and found that to be extremely full of flavor as well. Set right on the harbor in Stonington with great views. Well appointed and very comfortable inside with friendly staff and great service! Highly recommend! BTW, Great Bloody Mary's never hurt. read more

Had the pleasure of enjoying Devin Finigan's seven-course tasting menu last Saturday! Every course was delicious and beautifully presented, and the menu was conveniently left on the table so you could follow along with the various components of each dish. This is a pretty decent restaurant, but I don't think you get your money's worth. The burger was satisfactory but the lemonade tasted like pee in a cup. The potato salad was good, until it got overbearing. I don't think it was worth the price, but if you want something simple with money to spare this will be the restaurant for you. I was disappointed with the employees, because our waitress didn't know how to pronounce the name of the restaurant. I understand Italian isn't your first language, but employers should make sure they know their employees know where they are working. Another waitress didn't know the menu at all and had to keep asking the chef or whomever what was in different food items. Overall I give this three stars out of five, because I don't think it reached its full potential. I do like the view. Perhaps it is there to distract you from the flaws that could be easily fixed. We showed up without a reservation. It was really busy! (On September 15!) The staff were incredibly sympathetic. They made a table for us at closing time. The atmosphere is warm and buoyant. Servers are chatty, knowledgeable, and kind. The wine list has an impressive range. The food, though, is the real treasure here. Every dish was thoughtful, carefully made, and delicious. Empanadas with yogurt: superb. Duck breast with poached plums: immensely satisfying. Oysters with fennel pollen: just enough fussy add-ons to elevate rather than obscure the bivalves. And the lobster ravioli, which the wise server steered us toward: the chef's signature dish, decadently poached in butter with lobster bursting out of their pockets. It tasted as good as it sounds. There were lovely little touches as well. House made chocolate; herb butter with freshly baked baguettes; a splendid spoonful of beet sorbet; a tangy white turnip and crab amuse. We've been coming to Stonington for 20 years and never had a meal out quite like this. It is not a cheap restaurant by any means. But it is absolutely worth it. read more
