Sunday evening 8 PM is a lovely quiet time for Aragosta for your one time leaving your ocean home for supper out. I did not need to do this, however, family is family and one needs to try to be accommodating. Our Menu: Amuse bouche - tiny Local mussels w/ green curry sauce and chorizo - yum. Local oysters - Little Island Oyster Co. (?) Burrata salad with local tomatoes and greens. 2 orders of Char - cooked to crispy skin crunch. Flaky and tender white fish on top of a sauce - we ate every bits. Duck - a tad undercooked to me. Had to try the made-in-house ice creams, said our sweet server Matthew. Lovely location, the potato leek soup with mini-mussels was delicious, as was the duck. "Ode to fall" was creative with the inclusion of sashimi. The signature lobster ravioli was generous. Definitely plenty of food for our $425 (after tax and tip). Ordered a popular cocktail to start which tasted like pine sol detergent. Was the bartender overwhelmed and made an error? Waitress said she'd take it off the bill, which she did not. Music blasting right in our ears was G-d awful. After having it ruin the atmosphere for most of the night we asked the staff to change it, which they did, to a much quieter syncopated jazz. The evening ended with coffee, literally boiling, presented in a handle-less mug. Ouch! read more

I guess you have to make reservations in May for an August trip! Nevertheless, they offer Happy Hour days for the rest of us on first come basis with a la carte menu, which I actually prefer over $150 per fixed course on the weekends (not including alcohol costs!) In any event, we had a 45 minute/ hour wait, but were there to enjoy the sunset on the beach during the wait where drinks were offered (mostly local brand premixed drinks akin to white claw and wine, but they had run out of wine). Finally a table, and for my wine! There were only four wine choices: a cab, a white, a rose and Prosecco. I dislike buttery white, sorry I don't remember the name, but the Australian white was indeed delicious. They also have full bar at the restaurant (but not down at the beach). We had oysters with blueberry mignonette, which was not overpoweringly blueberry. Subtle and Fantastic. Also the fish tacos, a gigantic lobster and burrata salad were spectacular. Our server, Natalie, was perfect. Highly recommend for food and ambiance, just be prepared to relax and wait a bit. read more

This place is amazing. 5 stars anywhere- but a real gem in tiny Stonington Maine. We have eaten here several times and it never disappoints. The mussels are to die for. The service and ambiance is top drawer. Order anything on the menu - it is all great. Drinks and snacks on the deck are a very nice experience but the main restaurant, which you do need a reservation for, is the not-to-be missed event. I can't wait to go back (we have reservations this Thursday!). read more

Wow!! Great spot, great service, great food! We were so lucky to stumble upon Aragosta by accident (the parking lot for our hiking spot was fun so we kept driving). What a stroke of luck! Since we didn't have reservations, we stuck around for the Happy Hour and ate oysters and muscles and enjoyed the beautiful view. The staff was so friendly and helpful and the good was delicious. The first time you experience the ride down the gravel road you will probably question the legitimacy of the reviews of this place but have no fears. It is as good as others have mentioned. We only experienced the a la carte menu but it is exceptional. After chatting with a few locals, we discoved many prefer this menu over the more celebrated fixed course. The good news: Amazing view. Interesting menu. Fun, eclectic plates and glasses. Friendly staff. Pork Belly Ban Mi was great. Burrata salad was good. White bean spread was yummy. The bad news: The "brunch" menu only has one brunch item, and it's mostly lentils with a couple eggs. Omelet? No. Eggs Benedict, No. Fruit bowl? No. A dozen oysters at 1030a? Yes. Not great. And the staff didn't seem to know the food. They have a "fire grilled" Caesar salad. What part was fire grilled? Staff didn't know. And after eating it, neither did I. For what it's worth, it was bland anyway. No real garlic or anchovy to speak of. The Bloody Mary was $12 for a tiny low ball glassful. For that price, I want more drink or at least an interesting garnish, not one lonely olive at the bottom of the glass. For these prices, they need to step it up. I don't mind paying high end prices but it needs to come with high end food and service. I really like this place in general and maybe dinner is better, but this is definitely not a brunch spot. read more

This season they moved to Goose Cove and they completely remodeled the old Cockatoo site with new clean light wood siding, gutting the interior, cleaning it up removing walls tearing up the old carpet replacing it with wood floors, moving the bar and building a light pleasing but warm modern interior. Even the new wooden tables and comfortable wooden chairs contribute to the great atmosphere. Servers are young and pleasant and eager to please but there were a few minor problems: some longish waits, they forgot to bring us the between course sherbet dish until we asked after the main course, 30 minutes after I asked for a specific draft beer the came by to tell me they were out. They initially brought the wrong check. However all the errors were made right with appropriate apologies. I expect as the season moves on, these faults will go away. These issues didn't really upset us because the food and atmosphere was just so great. Two words: "homemade butter." Each dish was innovative, delicious and perfectly prepared. We had wonderful cauliflower soup and a warm well garnished mackerel dish as appetizers. But first a memorable "amuse bouche" of perfect lobster ceviche, grape tomatoes stuffed with fish mousse and a corn salad with edible flowers and a strawberry. Wow! The sherbet was an intense black berry treat with another half strawberry. Main dishes included a lovely lobster stuffed pasta casoncelli and poached cod with lobster in a delicious broth with broccolini and shredded cabbage. It was was the codfish of my dreams. Wine and beer were well chosen and very through. There were 3 original cocktails as well as a list of premium liquors for the bartender to mix. Price was fairly high..dinner for 2 with one drink each was $125 before tip but well worth it for the quality. Goose Cove is spectacular setting. We had lunch here on a idyllically foggy August day. It was cool but ideal for sitting outside with a light jacket. Really pleasant surroundings on the deck. We each had a glass of rose and I had the burger. I'm not even a burger person really - but a great burger always surprises me. This was truly a world class burger, full of flavor, a slice of thick cut bacon, cheese and some rich, yummy flavors I can't quite place but were all delightful bliss. My husband reluctantly ordered the halibut Banh Mi (he wanted something more 'fun') but he LOVED it. He devoured it and then started in on the rest of my delicious burger. ;) We would return here again and again. I'm sure we'll be back next year. Highly recommend! read more

All were delicious but the tostada left something to be desired because of how it was put together and the portion size, hence the 4 stars. I had the opportunity to have lunch yesterday and had a delightful experience sitting on their deck overlooking Stonington's harbor. We had the monkfish chowder, their hand made hamburger and their lobster on flat bread. The chowder and hamburger were outstanding. However, the lobster flatbread, while having great flavor was skimpy on the amount of lobster they use in the sandwich. Their staff was extremely pleasant and I will return. read more

As of 2015 there are only two decent restaurants on Deer Isle that I'm aware of: The Whale's Rib (in Deer Isle Village) and Aragosta (in Stonington). As such, each of these is a particularly valuable institution, and fortunately both of them prove themselves fit to handle the hefty responsibility they bear. I've never had dinner at Aragosta, but I've done lunch there a couple of times and recommend it highly-- lunch is served on a charming below-street-level deck with a fantastic view of Stonington, and the menu, although small, has excellent range of both food and drink for its size. (The quality of the items on the menu does not disappoint either.) I dock them a nit-picky star for the following reasons: (1) the service can be a bit slow, (2) the only dinner option is a pricy prix fixe and is not available on the deck (boooo!), and (3) their days and hours of operation are a bit short, even during high summer season. Considering the high demand for and short supply of fine dining on Deer Isle, point (3) also means that on the days Aragosta IS open, don't be surprised if you end up waiting for at least half an hour for a seat, especially during the walk-in lunch hours. (This interlude serves as a good opportunity for a stroll down Main Street Stonington, or at least as far as the used books/collectibles store Unexpected Treasures just one or two doors down.) But if you can stand the wait, lunch at Aragosta is indeed one of the pleasant highlights of Stonington. read more

Lunch and happy hour (4-7 in the summer months) on the outdoor deck or inside, dinner inside. I put dressy just because you could dress up for a nice meal - we went in tee shirts and no one batted an eye. Tasteful and simple decor, very nautical/summery Maine feel. Food was exquisite - my only wish is that there might have been more :) I got the gnocchi, and my parents had the lobster ravioli and full lobster. Every dish had wonderful creative little touches - a wildflower on the lobster, nice plating of the gnocchi with the greens and herbs, the signature house made fennel salt and garlic butter. The chef served up some delightful surprise palate cleansers - first a radish slice with goat yogurt and dill, and then a stunning strawberry mint sorbet. Playful and delicious. For dessert we got the chocolate cheesecake, chocolate ice cream, and a cappuccino to split all round. Probably should have gone for something a little lighter as we'd stuffed ourselves on the bread, but great stuff nonetheless. We had a smooth chardonnay, and there are also extensive (and apparently quite creative) bar options as well. Service was attentive and timely but unobtrusive. There seems to be something for everyone - definitely bringing my friends back! read more

We had an absolutely wonderful evening at Aragosta - all 10 of us (6 adults and 4 kids)! The new setting at Goose Cove Lodge is beautiful. Airy and rustic/modern and created to highlight the phenomenal view. The food was just unbelievably good and the service was spot on. They even made a lovely cake (pre-arranged) for my parents' 80th birthdays. I can't say enough about what a wonderful evening we had. read more

I love this place. We have dined here about three times now and each visit has been exceptional. The first visit I remember the Mushroom Soup as the stand out memory, the second visit, it was the melt in your mouth filet mignon with a herbal butter. The third visit we came for Thanksgiving, it's hard to believe that Thanksgiving dinner can ever be improved upon rather than a home cooked meal but we were unable to be with family that year and in an effort to cheer ourselves we decided to make a mini vacation out of the holiday. Our dinner at the Aragosta was the best, it was traditional but each familiar dish that was presented was unique and the wine pairings were sublime. The only thing I missed was my pre-dinner Martini but on Thanksgiving they close the bar to the regular cocktails, but as the first dish appeared it was soon forgotten read more

My husband and I lucked out by coming in right when they opened for dinner, since we didn't have a reservation. This is one of the best meals I've ever had. The chef gives small tastes and pallet cleansers in between courses, and everything is insanely fresh and uses local ingredients (who knew beet salt with bread and butter could be so good?!) My husband got the lobster pasta dish is still raving about it to this day. I got a beet salad and vegetarian mushroom dumplings that were so good I wanted to cry. desert was also amazing. We went to Aragosta tonight which was their last nite of the season- our neighbor here on the island invited us - telling us that our visit may be a little unconventional - saying they were doing some type of tasting gigg- LOL Well I gotta tell you- this was the VERY BEST tasting gigg you could ever imagine - turned out to be the very best dining experience we have had in 50 years The tasting was for oysters- Scallop- Kale-Tuna- Chicken- Tortellini-Duck - Beef- & Apple cobbler with caramel, vanilla ice cream This would appear to be overwhelming- but let me assure you that the manner in which this was done over roughly a 2.5 hour period --coupled with just the right portions and indescribable table side protocol makes this "Tasting" a most memorable "Dining Experience My wife and I were so impressed that we requested to meet the chef, Devin Finigan, and make a pic of her with Angie and Rosie who were our waitresses Being an ole Texan and living in Fort Worth my wife and I have the privilege of dining at some of the best restaurants in America- - - - these great restaurants have nothing on Aragosta on Goose Cove Road in Deer Isle Maine!! It is so clear how much care Devin puts into designing the menu each week. Great dining experience. Reservations are a MUST in peak season for dinner. Attentive staff. Delicious food, perfectly seasoned. The raw oyster appetizer with a beautiful wild Maine blueberry and shallot vinaigrette was a delicious beginning. My husband had the beef au jus, which was just a tiny bitter (as au jus is meant to be!!) instead of the sweet goo you get most other places. My lobster tortellini was perfectly portioned with exactly the right amount of buerre blanc. Desserts were delightful. Even the background music was a quiet, eclectic compliment. It was too dark to see the bay, but I'm sure the view is lovely with sunlight, especially at sunset! read more

Really great place with amazing food in the heart of Stonington. A fine jem away from the craziness of places like Bar Harbor. Aragosta has the benefit of being so close to the lobster fishery and local farms that they can really deliver on 'local food'. The beet salad was lovely with perfect seasoning and rich cream dressing. I had the lobster ravioli- perfectly cooked with three rich, tasty pieces. Both the pasta and filling were perfect. A rich butter and cheese sauce compliments the dish. My wife had perch, which was perfectly prepared Desserts are fantastic as well. Quality would suggest a true pastry chef has made them. Last summer we discovered Aragosta and found their food to be transcendent. Over the course of the ensuing year we planned our 2016 trip to Deer Isle and brought some friends along to join us for dinner there. When our reservation was moved up an hour I should have figured something was going on and indeed it was. We were moved to make way for a group of 16 women who occupied the majority of the small dining room and elevated the noise level into the stratosphere. One of our group had to use an earplug to block the noise from the big group. However, the lack of ability to hear our party of four talk was not the major issue. Unfortunately the food was not anything special and in some cases was pretty eh. Our favorite dish was the simple but elegant salad. The amuse bouche was stale; the pappardelle had beautiful veggies, but no sauce or flavors to combine the dish. The mussels were in a coconut milk broth and tasted nothing like the lobster brodo. The halibut had a large section of inconceivably boiled fennel and a tasteless dollop of crab meat. The fish itself was well prepared on a bed of succotash. And the rib eye steak, which was perfectly prepared, had a chimichurri sauce that tasted as if they left the bitter green in the garlic cloves in. The service was terrible, due in large part to the staff needing to attend to the large party. We waited for silverware to be brought so we could eat, water glasses to be refilled, dirty dishes to be removed, wine to be served in conjunction with food and coffee to be served along with dessert. All of this was complicated by repeated attempts to get someone's attention. The young staff was pleasant and friendly, but ineffectual. I wish they had been up front with us about the large group - we would have come another time. But the food let down was huge. I know it is early in the season, but the restaurant was outstanding last year and could give any of the new chef owned restaurants in Boston a run for their money. This is no longer true. read more

We had a blah lunch experience. Service was slow. The (tiny) crab cakes ($14.00) were terribly salty. When I mentioned it, our server (nice girl) said others before me had the same complaints. So, I guess, the chef either didn't pay attention or had to get rid of what was left. The halibut and corn chowder was delicious. The lamp gyro was ok. There was no offer of compensation for the tiny, salty, expensive crab cakes. We won't be back. There are better places on the Island.. read more

Well, I so much wanted to be blown away by Aragosta, but was not. It is very cramped and the noise level made it difficult for us to hear ourselves. (There were four of us, and no, none of us suffers from any particular hearing problems.) For reasons that escaped all of us, Aragosta has background muzak, which only exacerbates the noise problem. We asked, politely, to have the muzak turned down (or, better, off) but I guess our request wasn't persuasive. Really, if a restaurant insists on background "music," at least avoid vocal selections. Our server was excellent. Service was a bit slow at the beginning, but once started it was fine. The food was good. It was not walk-off-the-plate great. I suppose that's part of my disappointment: when something's been hyped the way this restaurant's been hyped, you expect something really amazing. It just was not. The nettle/asparagus soup was the best plate of the meal--really delicious. And the raw oysters were divine. The Brezzo pasta dish had good flavors but the pasta itself was gluey. A poached egg in a pasta dish can be divine, but what's the point when the pasta can't soak up the egg? My husband's halibut tasted very good, but was on the dry side, and again, the lobster dumplings were heavy and chewy. The Maine Mojito was great. Three of us split a bottle of wine, but my husband had a glass of red and the pour could have been a bit more generous. The amuse bouche (radish, crabmeat, pickled fiddlehead) was great; I could have eaten several! The rhubarb palate cleanser was also excellent. One of us ordered the chocolate torte and we all had a bite. It was perfect. So bottom line: the food was a bit disappointing. Still, we would probably return for another try, but we were so put off by the noise level and the muzak, we'll probably pass. read more

This is a fine dining restaurant. You will not get steakhouse portions or overseasoned food. I actually didn't love my fish dinner ( I guess I don't like hake), but I loved everyone else's that I tasted. Being allergic to dairy really sucks. The wine list was wonderful, the food was fresh and inspired.Everything had wondeful flavor. The service was impeccable. We arrived as they were closing-they stayed open late to accommodate us. A memorable meal. The setting was serene and pretty. We did have an early reservation as we had theater tickets, so can't comment on noise levels later in the evening. We started with the oysters, tasting of the sea, presented on a pretty plate with tiny blue wildflowers. My friend had the surf and turf, not something I would ever order, but I was sorry I didn't, as the rib-eye was exceptional. Flavorful and cooked to perfection. I had the parpadelle with goat cheese, garlic scapes, and parmesan. A very good fish but the rib-eye was the star. The summer blueberry pudding was good. read more

This restaurant was literally amazing! The bread and butter was even amazing and it's just the beginning! To start the table we got tomato soup, mussels and a salad! All were amazing! We finished the tomato soup so fast since it was so good! After that the brought us berry sorbet which came with the meal! They brought it to us to clean our taste buds which was just an amazing idea! For my entree I got the lobster tortellini which was the chef special! It was just AMAZING! The sauce was amazing, the lobster was so fresh and delicious and the pasta was also amazing! I wanted to bring a ton of it home! Lastly the blue berry icecream was just pure amazing!
