Wow Kim is great. Really knows how to style hard to style mops like mine. And the tea is great too. She's the person to see for difficult Asian hair and the atmosphere is just so great. Finally a stylist who knows how to work with Asian hair. Though she doesn't specialize in Asian hair exclusively, I was just so excited when I found her on Yelp and seeing Asian reviewers rave about her. I've been in Portland for almost four years now, and I've barely gotten by with haircuts from a local place that knew somewhat how to handle Asian hair and getting haircuts in K-town when I visit New York City. She did a great job! I definitely recommend her whether you're Asian or just looking to get a great cut. read more

My family and I have been going here for several years and we love Kim. She's not only great with hair, but also really sassy and fun to talk to. The building itself is not very good-looking, but the interior of the spa is beautifully designed and very professional. The bathroom is lovely. Kim can fix you up a little coffee or tea and there are various magazines available for reading. read more

The last few times I've had my hair cut I've just feel kind of 'meh' about the style at the end, but not with Kim. I feel like Kim really listened to me in that I didn't want to stay plain Jane, but I also didn't want to hack it all of - again. She did a good amount of angling in the front and then brought up the layers in the back, still working with how I normally style my hair - mostly ponytail but I like to part it to the side if I have plans. The space is really cute and well-decorated. She's extremely friendly and inviting, and she offers you a tea/coffee/beverage. I can't express how pleased I am. Get what you pay for! I could easily go to (insert hair cut chain here) and get my hair 'buzzed', however I'd rather have great conversation, share stories, and know that Kim cares about every strand of hair - all cut with scissors, at that. I've been on a monthly cut for a few years now and think I've had enough cuts to make a valuable review. I love how Kimberly cut and color my hair! She gave me exactly what I wanted at a fair price. I have long, dark hair and got a few inches off with the color to tastfully cover the grays that are starting to come through. Kim's place is a little oasis tucked away in unassuming corner of Town. Nice and quiet easy access parking - a perk you don't get when you haul yourself downtown for a haircut! Her skills are top notch. I have thick heavy Asian hair and she got me a nice spunky short cut I love. If you're lucky you'll also come out with a bit of her sassy self rubbed off of you and walk out of the place a little taller than before! read more

I rescheduled my appointment since there was a scheduling error and Kim didn't make it for my appointment. I wanted to get my hair trimmed. When I got there, she asked if I wanted any tea or coffee. I declined, but it was nice of her to offer or have the option. Then Kim have me a scalp massage and washed my hair. She trimmed my hair when it was wet and then she dried it so that she can thin it out. During the entire time, Kim got to know me and asked me what I look for in a stylist. I've never had anyone ask me that before. She was personable and I felt like she took the time to care about the result of my hair. It was nice getting to know her. At the end, she styled my hair a little bit. I could tell she cares about her work. I guess I didn't realize how much it would be because I was pretty surprised when I went to pay. It ended up being $60 altogether. Kim's work is great, but I don't think I can afford to continue going to her. If you have that ability, I would say go for it! read more

A hidden gem. We just moved to SW and i found Kim on yelp. Kim is not just extremely skilled at her craft, but is also painfully funny and brutally honest. All important traits of a great stylist! I have short hair that I am trying to grow out, and Kim is doing an incredible job of keeping it graceful. Love this girl. Her ultra zen space is also inviting and personal. Found Kim while browsing on Yelp for hair stylists who know how to cut Asian hair. Requested an appointment via Yelp and Kim responded shortly afterwards with options... and was able to be scheduled in for a haircut the next evening! When I got there, I was impressed by how clean the space was, and how personable Kim was immediately. She asked me what kind of haircut I wanted and was very thorough with clarifying length, bangs, etc., before getting started. Also offered me tea, which was great! She then did a really nice head massage and washed my hair. She did a wonderful job cutting my hair, layering it so that it would not be as heavy and shapeless, all the while making great conversation. Sad I didn't find her earlier since I'm now moving to Seattle... but will plan to come down and get my hair cut when I visit family and friends. read more
