Honestly I wanted to love it since Katy's hasn't been that good anymore but the truth is they had us waiting for more than 45 mins while they had many open tables and they weren't social distancing people cause that's what we though at first. Made us feel like they were having people wait out front for the sake of waiting. On top of getting my boyfriend's meal wrong, he ordered a meal specifically because it didn't have meat and he got a meat on it anyways. My boyfriend is a vegan. Then they burned one side of his pancakes and try to hide it by having the burned side facing down on the plate, I mean really. I wanted to like this little upscale breakfast spot, located just behind El Tapatio in IB. Late in the morning, there were plenty of tables available, and plenty of servers walking around, but still a 20 minute wait for one. Once seated, it took another 10 just to be offered coffee. All coffees are custom poured, which can be good, but was not here; sadly, it was a weak brew and took 10 minutes to get. The menu is a little funky, with kind of a breakfast / lunch offering that initially looks good, but as we soon found out, half of it wasn't available. We had to reorder, once we were told that there no more spinach (!) for the scramble, and no breads left for toast. The hotcakes were undercooked, and bland in flavor, and the croissant breakfast sandwich was on the level of airplane food, albeit first-class fare. The rest of the food was pretty basic, and well below breakfast juggernauts like Breakfast Republic, Perry's or La Espadana. But the price was up there with the most expensive of the lot, for four people. Sorry - Can't recommend. Hopefully this local business gets their act in order and lives up to the hype, but for now it's a spot that Denny's eclipses on service alone. read more

The food is pretty Good but the SERVICE IS HORRIBLE! They made too many mistakes. I asked for Sourdough bread and they gave me WHEAT. I asked them to replace it and got back a Flat Panini sourdough. My daughter asked for. no cheese on her Veggie omelette and a side of Bacon and They gave her CHEESE and NO BACON... took them 20 min to sit us down and when we finally sat. Have visited here before, but the quality has gone down during the last 6 months. We ordered our lunch at 1 pm. Restaurant only had three other patrons. At 1:40 asked server to check our order. Within one minute she returned with our crepes. Whipped cream melted and crepes weren't even luke warm. Never saw the server again until she brought the check. This was a very disappointing visit to what was a favorite dining experience. read more

Me and my wife ate breakfast at this place it look nice but looks can be deceiving It took the waiters forever to serve us and when they did we were the only people to receive plastic water cups while everybody receive glass cups as soon as our food came to us we were swarmed by flies to the point where we could not enjoy our meals so we had to pack up our food to go and left not to mention there was two gentlemen inside the café killing flies and leaving them on the window If it wasn't for the food this place would only get one star read more

Upon arrival, we waited to be seated and 3 employees passed by and not a greeting was said. My husband went in and said employees were talking and finally acknowledged him and said they'd be out. My daughter got the fruit bowl--pretty, but had pineapple core in it, and squishy blueberries past their prime. My husband got an egg scramble and toast. It was a skinny piece of dry toast--one piece. No butter. We asked for butter which they never brought over. I got the avocado toast. It was dry, cold and thin slice of toast. It lacked the flavor of lemon described in the menu. We both had to further season our food. If they're trying to cut costs this was a pathetic attempt for something I paid $14 for. Our tiny water glasses were never filled. Our coffee was never filled. They never even checked on us until someone came to take our plates. My husband had to go in and pay because we never were brought a check. He said there was no one taking charge to manage the staff. The staff lacked any sort of training, willingness to work or hustle to be good at their job. They need training or to find a new job. I was incredibly disappointed. I have waited tables, worked front of house and in the kitchen of restaurants, this place has potential, but at this rate we won't return nor will we recommend it to anyone. Good food, but wouldn't come back to eat here unless they fix their fly problem. Just ate here and had a horrible experience. First time here and was sat at the 2 person table outside, closest to the metal side gate. Where there is a constant swarming of flies. And of course my husband and I get the bulk of them because we're at the table closest to them. Not only did it take forever for my coffee to come out, and then also our food. But that time was made to feel unbearable because of the disgusting amount of flies we had to swat away. We were swatting away flies the entire time. This establishment needs to either put a screen up to block out flies, or they need to invest in those table top fans that swat away flies for you. Because this absolutely ruined our dining experience. If you're going to invest in having good tasting food, then you should also invest in the atmosphere of your restaurant and ensure every seat has a positive dining experience. read more

2nd & LAST visit. We tried them out a couple of months after they first opened and gave them grace for being slow with the service and just ate the amount of time everything took. For whatever reason their coffee comes out AFTER your meal so don't expect it before. This time around - at least 4 months have gone by and the service was 1000x worse than when they first opened. We went on a weekday morning, only 5 tables seated and 2 of those had their food. It took 20 min from being seated for someone to acknowledge us and the person who did was the same one who sat us . She sent a young guy out who didn't apologize for making us wait, took our order and we never. saw. him. again. Waited an additional 20 min and never received coffee, water, or food. They sat an additional 3 tables and I said I'll give them 5 more min and if no one comes out, we leave. Guess what...no one came over to our table or anyone else's table after they were sat. So we left. The woman who sat us was shocked when we said this is ridiculous as we walked away. I don't understand how this place operates and why people go back! We are locals and wanted to make it our breakfast spot buuuuut nope. Will not recommend to friends/neighbors. Please get your act together or close. Waste of everyone's time. read more

Best authentic hot espresso latte drinks in Imperial Beach! I've tried a lot of places in IB for espresso drinks like cappuccino or latte and this is the best I've found so far. I only wish we could get espresso lattes in Imperial Beach earlier in the mornings from 4-7am also. If that was possible I'd get one every morning before the gym. I got the regular hot latte and the hot mocha latte, both are amazing. They also press orange juice fresh here. I will say the waffle was not impressive, not golden brown crispy on the outside and moist on the inside which is my ideal and it tasted and looked and was the texture of pretty much like something you expect when you make it at home. The roasted mini-potatoes that came with the Egg Benedict were really well seasoned and crispy on the outside, perfectly golden all around. I came twice and both days the drinks came quickly, the food did not take too long to arrive, was hot and fresh, and the bill came quickly when I finished. The bill is quick and easy to pay online with the QR code on the receipt and you don't have to wait for the server to take it to a POS machine to process it and return it to you. read more

The place looks super cute and is a great atmosphere. But that is where the good part ended. They weren't busy at all but the service was super super slow. I had been there for an hour before we got our food, there was plenty of staff, I saw 6 people for 4 tables. My French toast was cold when I got it. I sent it back and it was not good at all, tasted like they just heated it up. The marscapone filling was super bland and the French toast tasted old and stale. I asked them to make a fresh one because this obviously wasn't. After 25 minutes and no food I said I needed to go and didn't even want the food at that point. They then tried to charge me for two orders but give me discount! I didn't even had edible food at that point. They ended up giving me the third order to go. I tried to eat it in the car but there is no way they make it fresh because it tasted super old and had no flavor. Was the wait long yes especially when we did see tables open but overall the food is really tasty and our server was super sweet!!! This gem in IB was a great find! It was my sisters birthday and she just finished running 14 miles. We wanted to celebrate her at an outdoor restaurant and that was pet friendly.
