I called Arbutus Animal Hospital yesterday to inform them that my ragdoll cat Angel had an echocardiogram that came back normal. I told them that her blood pressure is under control and that she is stable at stage 3 CRD. I, also, told the receptionist that Angel gets blood work and her BP checked every two months. Angel is now 21 years old. The receptionist told me that all she can do is give them a note in the back. I never received a call back. I was hoping that they had a change of heart and that Dr. Luke would manually remove the plaque and tartar from my girl's teeth. She is on gabapentin because it is hard for her to eat her food. She still goes to the cat vet, who does only professional teeth cleanings that require anesthesia. I will try my best to clean Angel's teeth myself and continue to give her gabapentin. Again, I am disappointed in Dr. Luke, who I used to hold in such high regard. read more

I gave an update of my experience with this vet. Both of my honest reviews have disappeared from the site. This vet office refused to see my kitty Oct 2024 because they said that she had too many problems. They said that they were even afraid trim her claws. When I called the internal med vet that they recommended and asked if this makes sense. The person I talked to said, "No!" I called on Oct 6 2025 to see if they had a change of heart to clean my kitty's teeth. The vet has been manually cleaning my kitty's teeth since she was around 1 years old. She is 21 years old now. I informed the receptionist that my kitty had an echocardiogram that was normal. Her stage 3 CKD is stable. Her BP is normal. She gets her labs and BP checked every two months. I was told that all she can do is give them a note in the back. I never received a call back. My beautiful ragdoll cat has been going to a cat vet since May 2024, who is wonderful! Unfortunately, she only does professional cleanings that require anesthesia. This is why I wanted my kitty's vet, who she had been seeing since she was two months old, to continue cleaning her teeth manually and trimming her claws. The Arbutus vet charges less for trimming claws, but they refuse to do this. I am very disappointed in the vet. I would advise people with senior pets to stay away from the Arbutus Vet Hospital. Update due to the *in my Cardi B voice* Coronavirus! There is a reason why I will drive 45 minutes out of my way to continue to patronize this Vet hospital. They are so dope. Appointment are scheduled pretty quick upon request. Due to the virus you are not allowed to enter the hospital. Instead, you call, a tech comes to your car (masked and gloves) to retrieve your pet and confirm your vet request. Once inside, someone will call you to notify you of what was goings on and to give you the cost. Duchie received three services and was in and out within 39 minutes! The tech returned with Duchie and the bill they took my payment and off I went! Despite driving out of my way this vet is still more economical than those in the area. The staff continue to be super professional and caring. That plus they don't want to pump my dog full of drugs or feel the need to put her asleep to perform unnecessary tasks. I will continue to patronize this vet hospital. read more

This used to be a great vet. I've taken my cats here for their entire 14 years. Something has happened since the pandemic and now you can't get an appointment if there is a health concern, staff is condescending and rude, and you are not allowed to go into the exam room with your pet or speak directly to Dr. Suh. Last two times I wasn't even allowed to enter through the front lobby and had to come in the back and wait in the room where sick animals are kept in crates. They will refuse to fill your prescription food if you don't bring your pet in for yearly vaccines though, but they won't call you to tell you they are due for updates. Disappointing. read more

Don't take your pet to them unless you want them to provide your pet with sub-standard care, risk your pet's life & want your pet to have an amputation. You also better know exactly what they should do for your pet, otherwise they don't do jack. And then, when you finally get tired of them ignoring you, you take your pet to another vet only to find out your pet has cancer and needs an amputation. I have taken my dogs to Dr. Suh for years. Yesterday my older boxer got up and more or less collapsed. She was throwing up and very lethargic. Could not even walk. Went to Mellor Ave. ER and they were closed. We came home and waited until 8:30 AM. for Dr. Suh to open. I called a few minutes early and I thought luckily I got an answer. Explained our situation and asked if we could bring her in (we knew it was her time). I was told that they would have to call me back. About 20 minutes later we did not hear anything. in the meantime my girl is laying on the floor suffering, so I called back, still did not have an answer. Finally we got the call and was told they were too busy today and they could see her tomorrow. Are you kidding me. He just lost a very good customer and I will never go there again. By the way my dog had a tumor on her spleen that had ruptured and was bleeding in her stomach. Ended up at Falls Road and they were wonderful. Arbutus has become heartless. Never again! read more

I have a few animals and for routine care I do not have any complaints. With covid I have never actually met the doctor but the staff is nice. In January 2022 I had to put one of my dogs down. This was my first experience with euthanasia so I had no idea of what to expect. We were taken to a room and they gave my dog the 1st shot to sedate. They do not allow you to be there for the final shot. They let me have my time and when I was ready I went in the hall to talk to the tech. I was sobbing, the doctor looked at me and called the tech. He did not offer any condolences or even acknowledged me. I asked the tech to look out the door after my boy was gone and she did. I was hoping that they would do a paw print to send home with his ashes but I guess they do not do that. I did get a "sorry for your loss" on my receipt. This was my baby and one of thr hardest days of my life. It was very impersonal and when I need end of life services again I will look somewhat else. read more

ive contact this animal hospital at (7:27)tuesday morning, due to my shih-tzu collapsing and was not breathing properly. i left a message on their voice mail. at (9:57) to no avail no returned calls. i was contacting other vets,to seek urgent care. i called the arbutus number and someone answered me and i explained my urgent care issues pertaining to my pet,who have been in this veterinarian care since she was a puppy. people fail to realize that our pets are our family also. i was placed on hold for about (4) minutes, and was told that they were booked for the day,and that no one had cancel an appointment. my response was that it was too early,and my dog had serious issues with her health due to her age.be remindful when they weren't getting customer support they would contact me to see if anything was wrong with my dog.i called back at(12:57),and was placed on hold again. this time the young man returned a few minutes later and said that everyone was at lunch.i asked for his name and explained to him that i always paid my bill on time with a zero balance. well as i was finishing my compaint i've just received a call@ (2:27) to let me know that they could see my charity on thursday, october 10th at(4:00).please pray for my pet!! i had called numerous animal hospitals,and some told me that i would need urgent care . i will continue to seek care for my pet,even though i'm scheduled for a procedure myself on wednesday. what a caring world that we live in. read more

I am known for giving the benefit of the doubt; however, three times is enough chances. I attempted to schedule an appointment, and waited two days for someone to call me back. Never received a call back. I followed up scheduled an appointment for almost a month later. The day of the appointment I call because I needed to reschedule due to an energy. I told the young women on the phone that I am sorry and didn't want to waste her time. Therefore, I would like to reschedule. She informed me that my appointment wasn't found on the schedule. I asked if I could schedule either way. She took my information and said she would call me back after she talked to her scheduler. It's been three days. Poor customer service. My dog has arthritis pain. I called 3 times and each time was told they'd call back with an appointment time. This was over the span of a week. The 4th time I called, they told me to find another vet. While I was still reeling from being told to go away while I have a dog in pain, the person on the phone said "ok bye" and hung up on me. I have been going to Dr. Su since he opened many years ago. Always loved him. He was so compasionate. Now that his business is growing, I can't even get an appointment when there is an emergency that cannot wait a week or more. every time I call they tell me to go to the emergency room. What is the sense of having a vet if you can never get in to see him???? I understand that you need an appointment for shots or yearly exams, etc. but when your cat is sick and may have to be put down????? We have been going to Dr. Suh for more than 6 years. He does a tremendous job! Yes the facility could use some love, but honestly, the staff is barnone the best. Dr. Suh truly loves animals and he will NOT take your wallet for a ride. Last year our dog develop a hemmorage in her gut which is common in her breed. He gave me 2 options, one of which was very pricey and involved going to another pet ER. We chose the more inexpensive one because he was quite sure she would be ok. Sure enough, after the injection, and the meds, she cleared up! Good as new and feisty as ever. It is hard to understand him because he talks a little fast but the vet techs have no problem explaining things to you afterwards. We will keep going here because we know our pet is well cared for! read more

This place is the most insensitive bunch of people I have ever met in my life. No bedside manner what so ever. Quote one price then when it's time for the procedure they want to charge way more. I brought my 5-month old puppy for a regular check up and vaccinations. When I walked in I wasn't greeted with a smile or a "Hello," I was just handed a clipboard and asked to fill out paperwork. A vet tech promptly greeted me and asked to come into the exam room where there were 5 vet techs waiting. It was very overwhelming and uncomfortable having so many people stand around me and my puppy, no one talking to me, just amongst themselves. The doctor came in who literally did not say A WORD to me, he didn't even introduce himself. One of the vet techs asked me to put my puppy up on the exam table where everything went downhill... The first thing they did was trim my puppy's nails. In an effort to keep my puppy distracted, one of the vet techs decided to give him a treat...a very large treat not fit for such a small dog. The normal, sensible thing to do would have been to break that treat into smaller pieces considering my puppy was TEN POUNDS. Instead, she gave it right to him before I could say anything. He didn't chew it, swallowed it whole and began CHOKING on the treat. While my puppy is gagging on it she jokes that he must have been hungry! Are you kidding? Then when the doctor was getting ready to give him shots, the same vet tech took out a long flat treat the size of a popsicle stick and squeezed some kind of flavored paste on it. I asked if she could break it into small bite size pieces or let me hold it while he licked it and she said, "That's ok, I'll hold onto it." Well she shoved it in his mouth, let go, and he tries to suck down this treat, more than half of it is down his throat and, again, he is choking. I pulled it out of his mouth so the poor thing could actually breathe. I was in utter disbelief that someone who is a supposed trained vet tech, would think it's ok to give an oversized treat to a small puppy not once, but TWICE. Then proceed to joke about it. Never in my life have I experienced a group of vet techs and a doctor that were so unbelievably unprofessional and lacking in common sense. I could never trust this vet office to provide my puppy with any type of surgical procedure or general care for that matter. I will be finding another vet immediately. read more

I called to find out basic pricing on different types of bloodwork and they wouldn't give me any pricing for blood work over the phone. I've called other veterinarians before and everyone give you pricing and has different programs like platinum silver and gold and they tell you what each bloodwork test is for. But these guys won't even give you any information so you have to talk to the doctor which seems like it it's a scam because they want you to give all your information out and make an appointment just to see the doctor just for him to give you pricing that doesn't make sense . read more

We took our Sammy (Tibetian spaniel mix rescue) to Dr. Suh for 9 years until he went to Rainbow Bridge. We had wonderful service from everyone at this facility but especially Dr. Suh and his wife. There were emergencies and just regular visits and I could never have felt that Sammy could have gotten better care anywhere else plus the fees for services have been very reasonable. Our cat is always clearly distressed at being away from home and the staff always makes sure to pet him and comfort him in addition to making the process as quick and thorough as possible. The vet tech is especially very kind and has always made sure that she answers our many questions with patience and detail.
