Former Pennsylvania girl here who THOROUGHLY enjoyed my Arcaro & Genell shipped to Virginia today. I ordered a white and a red off Goldbelly.com and everything arrived PERFECT! Also, I had my wedding rehearsal dinner of 40 ppl there in November 2018 and Angelo and the staff were SO thoughtful, flexible, and easy to work with. The porketta, fish, and cannolis were a big hit. We had a cocktail hour with an open bar while they put out appetizer buffet including hot stuff like pizza and flat breads. Then, we had a large buffet of dinner food. I have organized many showers and other events for my friends in recent years and had the best experience with the staff here. I was wishing I booked my wedding there instead of where I did because the service was so much better. I wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful, warm, and old school family establishment! read more

Driving through and seeing that Old Forge PA is the "Pizza Capitol Of the World" caught my attention, and also warranted a stop for dinner on my way back towards Binghamton. I was definitely curious, and couldn't deny that I had to compare this to my travels. I have to be honest, I didn't know which place to choose, so a teammate recommendation was key, and we happened upon Arcaro & Genell. From the exterior, it's hard to see that this place's interior is huge! Further steps in the door let you know that their pizza was the draw, as almost every table had a sheet or multiple different pizzas at it. I'm an Italian food junkie, so I needed to try multiple things! I ordered their soup of the day, which was gnocchi chicken soup. The soup, surprisingly, was lacking any sodium to it. Decent chunks of carrots and celery, and some well done gnocchi, but missing flavor. The meatballs were done properly and in their house red, which again, surprised me, lacking sodium and spice. An almost sweet red sauce, but no bite, no acidity. The pizza - I ordered a single slice of their red, which I have to admit - was killer. Their red pizza sauce had spice, onion, flavor and complexity. Topping it with sausage, meatball and black olives sent it over the top! This pizza was killer. The main course - the special - rigatoni Bolognese - unfortunately the same experience as other items - no sodium, no spice, no bite. The pasta was perfect, but the sauce was just missing key items. I'm not sure if it was an off night, or if there is a definitive choice to not use salt and possibly specific ingredients, but I was disappointed. read more

Family came in from around the country for a sad family gathering. We chose Arcaro & Genell because it was one of the places we enjoyed most when we visited our relatives in Old Forge in our younger years. Angelo opened the restaurant specially for us for our family reunion. All these years later, they did not disappoint. Everything we ordered was delicious from the antipasto to the pizza (red and white) to the pasta and dessert. Nina, our server, could not have been more helpful and accommodating. The capellini and linguini is terrible! Got them both with hot sausage and red sauce. The noodles were totally over cooked to the point of being soggy and sticking together, the sauce was like canned tomato sauce, no flavor and the sausage was similar to a cooked hotdogs cut into slices. I had to throw both of them away. I would feed that slopp to my dogs! I'm afraid to try the pizza but will find out later as it is precooked. After heating it up, I'll let you know. read more

Sad. Used to be known for the best pizza. Not anymore. Recently went for lunch, pizza wasn't cooked enough, it was luke warm and not crispy. Tried take out pizza a few weeks ago, ugh. Pizza was soggy, again was not cooked nearly enough! And, the pizza sauce recently tastes like tomato sauce, like they forget to season it. We were glad to have the chance to swing by Arcaro's while we were in town. It's not every day you get to enjoy world famous Old Forge pizza! However, the pies were a bit undercooked and soggy. A little too doughy for me. I'll have to reheat the leftovers so they are a bit crispier. read more

First- pizza: Crust was soft, lacked flavor. Sauce was mediocre at best. Antipasta was decent. Chicken parm: Chicken was dry, lacked flavor, breading had No flavor. sauce was a joke. The only flavor it contained was saltiness. Penne pasta with a marinara sauce: Overcooked pasta, sauce tasted like they opened a can of tomato sauce and just added salt. I'm not a big fan of Old Forge style pizza, but this is the best. It doesn't taste like the typical Old Forge pizza. The crust is crisp and light, the sauce has a great flavor and I like to get sausage as a topping which is always delicious. They only have hot sausage so it can be a bit spicy at times. Most importantly the food and friendly staff are consistent. Something that can be difficult to find these days. They have a good variety on their menu and the desserts are excellent!! read more

3.5 stars My favorite pizza still remains New England Style Apizza but why wouldn't you try pizza while in the supposed "the pizza capital of the world". It's not called that because the pizza is the best in the world rather because it holds the most pizza places per capita. We made reservations for a party of 14 on a Saturday at 4pm to surprise my father in law for his 60th. Our waitress immediately asked us what we wanted to drink before my father in law even arrived. She was super sweet and helped us plan his entrance. She set the drinks down with pitchers of ice water with lemon and the bean salad that caught my eye. They bring this to the table with the fresh bread that really did nothing for me but the beans, delicious!!! And different! It's chickpeas, kidney beans and olives in oil with spices. I wanted the recipe. Yum! We ordered some apps for the table: portobello stuffed with crab, eggplant parm, garlic cheese bread and calamari. I can't speak for any of those but I can say all of the kids downed the cheesy bread in two seconds and it smelled delish. My husband said the calamari was "average at best" but enjoyed the mushrooms a lot. We ordered 4 pies leaving us all with leftover boxes. Pepperoni, double white, double white broccoli (cheese stuffed crust-I think they're known for this style) and peasant! I can only speak for the peasant which is a red and just $10! It was thin crust and delish! The first slice was crispy and cut into smaller pieces. By slice two it got a little soggy but still very good. My main meal however were sides. I got the broccoli rabe and the potatoes, each just $3. A tad oily for both so if I ever am in this area again I would say lighter oil but let me tell you the broccoli rabe was the best I've ever had! Perfect...crisp on the edges, perfectly garlic. Not too much, just right. The potatoes were sliced, fried and seasoned. Also yummy. We brought our own dessert without an issue and grandpa was surprised. A great night. Wow can I say let me start with the desert because it's always my favorite the cannoli was amazing the girl that packaged it for us let the cannoli inside stuff moved out of the sides and it was awesome the pizza was very similar to another place nearby that we've gotten the double crust white pizza which I love was a tiny bit crazier and it had a tiny bit of different cheese in it we're thinking American maybe some mozzarella the flavoring was different from the other location which is great they should have a little bit of individuality the chicken Alfredo was amazing and it was a full stuffed container which could feed up to 2 to 3 people depending On your appetite of course I will be back to try other things on the menu love the set up it's cute little Italian store that has everything you need to go beer olive oil cheese cakes and baked -- FYI the calamari to go was eh - everything else was nice! read more

The pizza gets four stars. The spinach and white pizzas are amazing. The red pizza is very good too. However; the other items on the menu get two stars. The pasta entrees were mediocre at best. Everything was very oily and had very little to no taste. The service was pretty bad too, but I would definitely go back and just have pizza. read more

Legendary pizzeria in Old Forge. Visiting the SO's parents in Scranton, it was made very clear that this was the place to take an out-of-towner like me. The no-reservations policy was not as annoying as the host telling us that we would be seated in 15 minutes (we waited for over an hour). I mean, I understand you have to wait on Saturday night with a large group, but then don't feed us BS to start (we're not that hungry). They really should have offered us comp drinks while we waited, but apparently the place is too popular for its britches. Back to the food--it is actually a really nice experience once you are sat. There are several varieties of hearty, country-style pizza (ah, the evolution of the pie around our great nation!). The square slices are thick (though not Chicago-deep), doughy, and filling. There are a number of toppings. I had a clam pie, which was not the popular choice at our table. TIP: The "small" antipasti plate is super-sized. You will NOT finish it, so no need ordering a larger one. read more

This is a nice family restaurant that serves classic Old Forge Style pizza, which is great for those of us who grew up in NEPA, but can be an acquired taste for those outside of the area. The service is average here, but the food is pretty good. The red pizza is quite good and a good representation of the style and we also had tried a cut of the white pizza, which was also pretty good. This was my first taste of Old Forge style pizza and I was not impressed. The crust had a nice consistency but the overall taste was very close to frozen pizza. It's basically a flatter NY Sicilian with less taste. The Faux Noise network playing in the background and the many displays of a former demagogue did not help the rating either. read more

The food is always wonderful! The complaint was with the server, Carol. No customer service skills. If I knew there was another server working I would have requested another server. Smack dab in the middle of the "True" Pizza Capital if the world (Sorry New Haven) lies this hidden gem. Always packed because the locals know of its greatness, their double crusted white is something every pizza fan should experience. Their red is damn tasty too. So pay no attention to the Cancel Culture Crybabies who provided negative reviews because the President visited their establishment and be sure to check them out the next time you're in the area. Had heard about this legendary old forge pizza when I moved to this area, and being a pizza connoisseur I couldn't wait to try it. This is one of the most famous spots and originals so I had to have it. Very disappointed with the pizza and the Chicken Parmesan that we ordered. The crust did not taste fresh as advertised and the pizza had very little flavor. I feel like high school football pizza is more impressive than this. Whoever said it was one of the best in the country must have been drunk or paid off. The chicken parm was very sub par. I hate giving bad reviews. The service was fine, but the food not so much. I am going to be completely honest I came in here very very skeptical. Here from NY visiting a friend and on his recommendation we came here to have dinner. After being explained this was the pizza capital as well as you don't call it a pie it's a tray and not a slice it's a cut I figured I had the PA Old Forge lingo down. In comes our waitress Michele who from beginning to end was outstanding and a pleasure the length of our meal. She explained to us as well in regards to the pizza as well as recommended we try a tray of the original with half hot Italian sausage. I must tell you I was made a believer. Not the same as NY pizza but it had its own twang and I can tell why it was unique. Then we saved room for dessert. My fiancé had the tiramisu, my buddy had the cannoli, and myself had the chocolate lava brownie with ice cream ( note being from NY I expected the lava brownie to have the chocolate inside but it was not). Again Michele was a star and we thanked her for her recommendations and making our meal enjoyable. If you are ever in the Old Forge area and stop in here make sure you ask for her. I've eaten at Arcaro and Genell many, many times. A family-owned and operated establishment with a great atmosphere! You feel at home like one of the family when you are there. The pizza is ALWAYS excellent and the food and service is top notch! As to a few sad people that have to share their political views instead of a review on an excellent establishment, they should be ASHAMED of themselves, but won't be because they don't know any better! Never again. My family and I dined here for my birthday and received some of the worst service I have ever received in my life.Waitress was totally uninterested in taking our order or doing her job. HOWEVER when her friends sat across from us she sat down and was super attentive and got them everything they needed. Meanwhile I've been waiting on a refill for a water (that I never got) & bread for our table (that she never got). I made multiple attempts to get her attention and she didn't even look our direction until it was time to give us our check. Also, the food was really just okay. My "homemade manicotti" was really lack luster and a small portion compared to everyone else's. All our food was pretty bland and far from what I would expect from a place like this.
