The table was set beautifully with a heavy linen tablecloth and sterling flatware. The 1883 Victorian mansion has been exquisitely restored & filled with lovely antiques. The service we received was warm and considerate. The various two pots were kept refilled with hot water and fresh water was poured for those who wished. I'm going to be as objective…read moreas possible while setting the record straight- the staff were all good, and offering breakfast, appetizers and cookies/fire/s'mores in the evening was a really nice touch. As others have mentioned, the breakfast wasn't great, but we were travelling with little kids so having something to get the day started is really important (A for effort, C- for execution). They had a decent selection of beer and wine to order in the evenings (at reasonable prices for a hotel). The grounds were pretty nice. Things fall short of expectations when you get to the accommodations and location. Our cabin felt old and dilapidated, not "historic" in the sense of the Ahwahnee Lodge (Yosemite) or Lake MacDonald Lodge (Glacier). You walk in to a slightly damp environment that smells a bit like septic mixed with old camp fire. The couch, and carpet were pretty gross. Beds were mediocre, and although the sheets looked clean, the setup wasn't exactly confidence inspiring. Rooms are not cleaned daily, and since we have little people in diapers, we opted to just put the trash can outside. Perhaps the worst part was that we were put into the AFrame cabin with no possibility to change rooms (that's not what I booked). There's a steep ladder that leads to the second bed upstairs. This arrangement is not realistic or safe with toddlers. Overall, everything was just, kinda... shabby. "Historic" in the context of the Weasku is a euphemism for "run-down". As for location, if you think you're going to be right on the Rogue, you'd be mistaken. There's an irrigation ditch that runs directly behind the cabins, fed by a pump house about 100 yards away. If you do walk down to the river, be careful because this section is very dangerous/inhospitable. The river is really swift there, so it's not good for fishing (yes, no fishing spots there!), not good for kids, no beach stuff... but plenty of spiked berry brambles and poison oak if that's your thing. Road noise is constant and detracts from the vibe of peaceful seclusion. Interstate 5 is hidden by trees just on the other side of the river, so you'll hear that all night long. As for Grants Pass, unless you've got a reason to be there, you'd be better off somewhere like Ashland. The Weasku served our needs, and we all escaped without bedbugs or scabies. Would I stay again? Not if you paid me. Rating reflects great staff and nice grounds, with negative stars for accommodations.

I saw some very positive reviews for The Weasku Inn on the Rogue River, so I booked it. I am SO glad I did! The lodge is nostalgic of days gone by, built in 1924-- so quaint and lovely. On arrival, a warm staff met us and we checked in to a picturesque cabin facing the river. Perfect! King sized SUPER comfy bed stacked high with lovely quilts. The cabin featured a lovely mountain-style, working rock fireplace with a comfy couch facing the fireplace, looking out onto the trees with the river beyond. The cabin had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. The Weasku offers "appetizers" in the evening--which really is more like a meal. If you are still hungry after the appetizer hours, which we were not, restaurants for dinner are just a quick 5 minute drive away. There is a bar available to purchase wines, beer and ciders, if you wish, available all day long with complementary coffees and teas, as well. And the FULL breakfast is SO well done; not like those plastic, poorly done "breakfasts" served at many places--THIS is a proper, complete breakfast meal. There is a fire pit for evenings and complementary "s'more"kits are available for toasting on the fire. The Weasku staff were so warm and friendly and all seemed to be pleased to see us! We will most certainly return to this lovely spot. If what you want is a respite from the crazy, a quiet cozy place to relax and comfortable accommodations, you will love The Weasku. The 5 rooms are spacious, with sitting areas, private bath and comfy beds. The decor throughout the house is charming. During the summer months the backyard is the place to be. There are plenty of tables and chairs, and even a hammock. We spend many hours reading and enjoying the warm weather. Breakfast is served in a sunny dining room. The portions are plentiful and we often can't finish. However you can ask for a smaller portion and they'll happily accommodate. Meals always include fresh fruit, juice, coffee or tea, fresh baked muffins or scones and a main plate of waffles, pancakes, eggs, or whatever Vicki's creative muse has brought forth. She uses fresh and health conscious ingredients. We look forward to our visits and highly recommend the Iris Inn.

(2 weeks later, she has begun to miraculously recover but is completely blind from the brain damage.) With great reluctance, we decided to cancel our trip - something I've never done before with a planned vacation. I emailed Alicia and asked whether she would consider partially refunding the cost of our stay (including $100 that we had paid in advance for breakfasts). She was completely unsympathetic to what has been the most heartbreaking situation in my adult life to date, cited needing to take care of her small business, and refused to refund us, even for the food we wouldn't be eating. Summer lodging in Ashland is incredibly busy and in high demand. I'm certain she was able to re-book at least some of those nights on extremely short notice. So Morical House doubled down on their revenue for those nights, and we incurred costs for a Bed & Breakfast (and extra costs for breakfast) at a place we wouldn't be using, on top of thousands of dollars of vet bills. Even our airline, with their rigid policies, was more forgiving than that. If we do make it up to Ashland later this summer, pre-baby, we won't be re-booking here.

My wife and I have just left the B&B without the breakfast we have been looking forward to. It was impossible for us to stay after the way we were treated by the house manager and then the owner. Last night when we checked in, we asked if we could have our dog in our room and were told what we expected to hear: dogs were not allowed in the room. So we made alternative plans - the dog would spend the night in the car with food and water. We went out on to the deck at the edge of the garden with our dog and had dinner delivered - beautiful view of the valley. We went off to our play and took the dog with us and returned about 12:30. We left the dog in the car and headed up to bed. The next morning my wife woke me up saying she had been treated very rudely by the house manager. Very angrily, she told my wife that no dogs were allowed on the premises. My wife tried to apologize for what was clearly a misunderstanding, but the woman refused to hear her. Instead, she repeated that dogs were not allowed and that we had been clearly told this. My wife was shaken up, and since this woman was the one serving breakfast, I decided to call Alicia to clear up the misunderstanding. However, Alicia was just as rude if not more, refusing to let me speak and yelling at me on the phone. She swore she watched us take the dog up to the room the night before. When I tried civilly to point out that we had done no such thing - we had been out at the play - she raised her voice again, "are you calling me a liar?" In so many words, yes I was. We didn't expect our dog would be allowed inside and knew in advance our plans to keep him in the car. If I had intended to be dishonest, I never would have asked. It's always better to ask forgiveness afterwards than to ask permission before. She told me that she had clearly stated we weren't to bring dogs on to the premises. I tried to point out that we had only understood that dogs were not allowed in the room. She yelled at me about mincing words, and said that if I wanted to discuss it with her attorney I was more than welcome. Hence the problem for me: aren't bed and breakfasts supposed to be welcoming? Here I was at a loss - clearly there was a misunderstanding, but rather than being treated civilly, we were yelled at and treated disrespectfully. They would not validate the fact that we understood events differently - even the simple fact that we never had the dog in the room! So a word of caution: stay at your own risk. If you might happen in to a disagreement, you won't be treated respectfully and you cannot expect good customer service. At the end of the day, they don't bank their business on whether or not you feel welcome.

Wanting to enjoy the property, we stayed up -- made a fire, used the hot tub, ate some food -- and finally headed to bed way past our usual bedtime. When I moved a pillow to pull back the blankets, I spotted a bug. Assuming it was just a random outdoor bug (since we were in the woods), I snapped a quick photo to ID it online while my boyfriend tossed it outside. To my shock, results came back: bedbug. A second site confirmed it, and when I posted on Reddit, the unanimous responses were: "definitely a bedbug." We hadn't even gotten into bed yet, but our suitcases and clothes had been at the foot of the bed. Knowing this could be serious, we immediately looked online for next steps. We double-bagged everything, cleaned hard surfaces, and checked the mattress. Under the comforter, sheets, and two mattress covers, we found multiple bedbug casings along the mattress corners. Needless to say, we did not sleep. I messaged the hotel right away and at 8am the manager, Scott, arrived. At first, he was very apologetic and kind. He offered to put us in another hotel in town, cover laundry service, and said he was bringing in an exterminator right away. This reassured us -- temporarily. When the exterminator arrived, he looked at our photos and immediately said: "Yep, bedbug." About the casings, his words were: "Definitely a bedbug infestation." He used the word infestation. But after inspecting the cabin with the manager (where they spoke in hushed voices, which felt odd), their tone shifted. Suddenly, the story became: "We don't know if you brought them with you." That is simply not possible -- we never got into bed, and the casings were under multiple layers of bedding and mattress protectors. There's no way we introduced that kind of activity in just a few hours. From there, the offers were downgraded: no outside hotel, no outside laundry service, just another on-site cabin and laundry done there. We thanked them for the offer but didn't feel comfortable staying. This was supposed to be our final night of a two-week family road trip through the PNW, and we had originally planned to drive from Ashland back to the Bay Area after checkout. But since we hadn't slept, we were absolutely exhausted and knew that was no longer an option. As a family, we decided not to risk staying in another cabin (since bedding is likely laundered together). Instead, we scrambled to find alternate lodging. With very limited options in town, we ended up paying way too much for a musty old hotel and had to buy new clothes at Walmart, since ours were bagged up and stored in our car's rooftop cargo bin. The manager promised a refund. Almost three weeks later: nothing. When I followed up, I got excuses about booking through a third party. I only received money back because the booking site stepped in -- not because the hotel did the right thing. To be fair, we liked the cabin at first glance. But then we found the bedbugs. Bedbugs are a serious health and sanitation issue, and the way this was handled made everything worse: initial kindness and accountability, followed by denial, retracted promises, and a refund that only happened through the booking site. Even the exterminator they hired didn't seem particularly professional, which makes me question whether the problem was ever truly resolved. From what I've read, it's not an easy pest to eliminate, and based on what I saw, I'm not confident this was taken seriously. Bottom line: BEDBUGS and poor management response. Avoid this property until there is proof the infestation has been fully and professionally eliminated. Travelers deserve safe, clean accommodations -- and this was the opposite.
