(2 weeks later, she has begun to miraculously recover but is completely blind from the brain damage.) With great reluctance, we decided to cancel our trip - something I've never done before with a planned vacation. I emailed Alicia and asked whether she would consider partially refunding the cost of our stay (including $100 that we had paid in advance for breakfasts). She was completely unsympathetic to what has been the most heartbreaking situation in my adult life to date, cited needing to take care of her small business, and refused to refund us, even for the food we wouldn't be eating. Summer lodging in Ashland is incredibly busy and in high demand. I'm certain she was able to re-book at least some of those nights on extremely short notice. So Morical House doubled down on their revenue for those nights, and we incurred costs for a Bed & Breakfast (and extra costs for breakfast) at a place we wouldn't be using, on top of thousands of dollars of vet bills. Even our airline, with their rigid policies, was more forgiving than that. If we do make it up to Ashland later this summer, pre-baby, we won't be re-booking here.

Alicia runs a great B&B on grounds that is small enough to be considered cozy, but large enough that you aren't bumping into other guest all of the time. While everything is top-notch, I'd have to say that her welcoming nature and her outstanding breakfasts are what keep us coming back each year. She does some really inventive (and delicious) food pairings, and is more than happy to accommodate any food restrictions. As an example, this morning's breakfast started with fresh figs topped with blue cheese, toasted almonds and touch of thyme. We usually stay in one of the downstairs rooms in the separate structure near the rear of the property. They come with an incredibly spacious bathroom, fireplace, small kitchenette area, and a window bench to curl up in. There's wifi and a TV, if you need to stay in touch with the outside world. Or, if you prefer, there's usually a small selection of books to read, should you just want to have a reading adventure.

We stayed in the Captain & Lizzie McCall Suite. It is simply stunning. The king bed was wonderfully comfortable and the furniture and decor was lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious chocolate chip cookies and milk too. Breakfast was yummy too and right on time. The coffee was strong and food arrived promptly (perhaps the bacon was a little dry- but otherwise very well executed). I appreciated their communication in the days approaching our stay. There is no onsite staff, so you need to make sure you've received your welcome email which contains the door codes to enter. The room was elegant, with very high ceilings, completely decorated in the victorian style with lovely antique furniture, photos, and decor (old oil lamps etc.). The decoration was completely tasteful and not cluttered. Each morning, there is hot coffee prepared in the sitting room, which has a large table, lots of board games, and some comfy couches and chairs to sit in. My partner and I had an easy time doing a few hours of work each day in this room. The internet was fast and reliable. The hotel is very private, with no front desk staff and very few other guests, but there is someone on hand via phone or text, and they are able to get to the hotel within a few minutes to help with anything you need! They use a great platform for managing the reservation, where you can very easily purchase a 1pm late check out (for $25) - that came in very handy when we realized in the morning that we weren't going to be ready to leave at 11am! The innkeepers are ttruly charming folk who provide a beautiful experience with simple yet perfect accommodations. The setting couldn't be better and the location is ideal, situated almost downtown, half a block to the shops, bookstores, bars, and restaurants of the village. We rented a lovely one bedroom apartment for the most reasonable price. Best of all, walking distance to Caldera Brewery tap house! We loved doing laundry at Henry's laundromat, where we would visit the Book Wagon used bookstore next door. One has to drive to the laundromat, and the adjoining bookstore, but it's not a long drive. The location is also ideal because it's on the Northwest part of town closest to the town of Talent, where we enjoyed shopping for books, antiques, and other items.

We felt so pampered with the generous homemade breakfasts and yummy afternoon sweet treats. During the reservation process, they even asked about special dietary needs. We were almost tempted to take them up on the breakfast basket in the room, but were so glad that we chose to join the other guests for breakfast both mornings we were there. It was fun to discuss the different plays we had all seen the night before and just meet new people. The home is so conveniently located. It is a great location especially if you are in town for the Shakespeare Festival. While there is no off street parking, we had no trouble parking on the street right out front and walking everywhere. It was a very short, lovely walk to the theaters and fantastic restaurants. Our room was so quaint and the bed was super comfortable. The room had a shared porch with rocking chairs and a porch swing. It was the perfect spot to enjoy the evening and early morning. The home is located across from Lithia Park and only a short walk to the Japanese garden. We cannot wait to come back for another stay at Parkside Accoustic.

This place had attractive, well-maintained grounds, attentive and friendly service (ask for a city map with hours and recommendations), clean and comfortable rooms, decent wifi, plus free parking and continental breakfast (cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, hard-boiled egg, packaged muffins, coffee, juice). I actually only wanted to give the place four stars because the noise level coming through the door between rooms was outrageous, but I am giving the extra star because someone gave them one star for having a dirty nightstand. She should have stayed at the Whine Country Inn.
