Today, I got a chicken shawarma wrap. It did not have much flavor which could be in part my fault as I had them leave off the tahini sauce. However, the chicken was so dried out and over cooked. It seemed like it was just some left over cooked chicken. On top of that, I ordered to pick up at a certain time via their website. I got there and they claimed that they didn't have the order. However when I showed him the online receipt, he then found it. But then I had to wait while they made it quickly. Maybe that's why I got chicken that was obviously precooked and dried out, not freshly made chicken. I've been here before and liked what I got but now won't be going back. read more

So I am barely in this area, but a friend recommended that I try this middle eastern place. Everyone MUST try Aristo Cafe. The food was incredible. The service is quick, with a no nonsense attitude that I really liked. Very clean dining area. But OMG the food!! Everything that I ordered I loved. Hummus is probably the creamiest and tastiest I've ever had, the shawarma (chicken) was not dry like most places. The salad dressing was seasoned and tangy really yummy. I had the football like Kibbe which was deliciously. So after my first time there I actually took my friends and they too have gone back as well. I went to the one in El Segundo, Aristo himself is there to serve you. He said he makes everything fresh everyday, from the flavor it was obvious. Hands down my favorite Mediterranean place in the area. We are frequent customers and it has yet to disappoint. We have enjoyed every meal there. The food is always fresh and the owner goes out of his way to make sure everyone is happy with their orders. My go to is the chicken kabob plate, my husband loves the tri-tip shawarma plate, and our 3 year old loves her chicken nuggets. If you are able to restrain yourself from eating everything in one sitting, it makes for excellent leftovers the next day too. The side sauces are freshly made as well and I wish he sold their whipped garlic olive oil (Toum) or their habanero spicy sauce. I would definitely purchase it! Food is decent to be generous. I usually order the chicken gyro plate. Chicken is dry, hummus is bland, rice is hard and stuck together (probably not made that day). Each time I've gone, I immediately regret giving them my business on account of the atrocious service. It always seems like there is some family drama happening accompanied by screaming behind the counter that takes priority of the hungry customers in the store. Employees casually sitting out in the dining area really enjoying themselves watching TV and turning a blind eye to customers. If I didn't know better I'd say these people don't want customers coming in at all... I've been overly polite with "please and thank you so much's" without even a "thanks!" or friendly smile in return. Seems like this place has lost its passion for food and it shows. The family that owns these restaurants is really nice and always makes me feel like this is my second home. It also features the most relaxing ambience I've been in a restaurant before. First time here. We came at off hours, so hubby and I were the only ones here. Initial impression was 2 dirty tables that were not wiped down yet. You would think if there were no customers that those would be cleaned. Hubby ordered the lule plate without realizing it was lamb when I wanted chicken. We realized when I saw it on the paper menu. The board didn't state the details like the paper did. So hubby ordered me a chicken shawarma wrap on the side. The chicken shawarma was ok. Nothing special or actually, it wasn't all that great to me. The chicken had descent flavor but reminded me of beef jerky instead let alone it was quite dry or over-fried like it. The garlic aioli spread they put on there was good and helped enhanced it a little bit but I always feel the meat should always shine first and everything else should enhance the main item. The Lule plate was also ok and nothing to rave about. The lamb I do have to admit was not bad at all but nothing I haven't had similar either. They used jasmine rice cooked in butter instead of basmati rice which is not the usual. The hummus was ok. Also lacked flavor and could add a bit more garlic to it. The house salad was ok. Too much oil, not enough vinegar so it definitely lacked flavor here too. Leaving this place left me thirsty like crazy. So its obvious they put quite a lot of salt in their food which is not pleasant at all. In terms of restroom, it doesn't seem like there was any at all. Didn't bother asking and decided to walk over next door to use the one at Starbucks instead. Also just have to add that the chairs are hard and super uncomfortable to sit on as it really hurts my bottom. This doesn't help with my eating experience. Price is a bit more costly than the ones I had been to also. So for the price, the taste and the loads of salt, I am probably going to try other places or at least the Hummus Factory that I had before down a few streets that I had before in another city though. read more

I had a taste for a gyro. Now, I loved the one I got across the street some time ago, and that would have been my go-to for this particular grub, but I decided to give this place a try anyway. They weren't busy at all - maybe 3 other customers either already eating their meals or waiting for takeout. Gyro and fries it is! Got a glass of water and took a seat. Tons of people coming in for to-go or orders for pick-up. Everything was made to order because the wrap as well as the fries were delivered to me hot hot HOT! The seasoning on the fries was new. Never had anything even remotely similar to it. The fries were done close (but not quite) well-done. Me likey! Not a fan of the gyro, though. I had a lot of trouble tasting the meat's true flavor since the copious amount of parsley in the tzatziki pretty much overpowered everything. It just came off way too strong. This resulted to hints of bitterness left in my mouth with each bite. I tried to remove some of it to ease the intensity the herb emanated. Sadly, my efforts were futile. I've definitely had a better gyro. The one they serve across the street remains my #1. I can't really comment on the service - really was nothing to call home about. The food is fine. My shawarma wrap was a little light in the chicken, but still fine and tasty. As others have said, the ambiance is not great. Clutter lying around and stacked even in the dining area, sticky surfaces, employees/owners walking around talking really loudly to each other with no regard for customers. Almost feels like they only want people to do takeout. Furthermore, there's no plates, no flatware, only plastic ware given sealed in plastic bags -- and EVERYTHING is served in a styrofoam container. I asked for my food for Dine-in and they served it in styrofoam, and said they automatically do that (without asking). Apparently their default serving style is single-use throw-in-the-landfill plastic and styrofoam. I won't be going back. read more

Recently had the Gyro Sandwich and while I felt like it was missing something, the meat was good. Next time I'm just planning to add feta cheese and hot sauce for the extra flavor boost I'm looking for. I enjoyed it more than the Chicken Shawarma I had on my first visit. The fries that it came with were unsalted and a bit droopy. Extra crispiness and some seasoning would have gone a long way. They have the kind with ridges here, which I like when done right. WOW! First of all - the food - 10/10 - easy. The Baklava is to die for, but the GYRO Sandwich! My OH My! One of the BEST Gyro sandwiches I've ever had. However, the food (albeit some of the best I am ever had) is merely the icing on the cake. Very seldom do you walk into an establishment - especially in the food industry- and get treated as though you are a family member who traveled across the ocean to reunite after years apart. This was the service, and hospitality my wife and I received here. If that's not enough, we were fortunate to have the pleasure of stopping in while the owner was there. While deciding on wether or not to get a Gyro on top of the chicken Schwarma, the owner INSISTED on personally hand making our gyro! And it was TO DIE FOR. I make it a point to stop at a Mediterranean cuisine in every city I visit, as I've been on 33 year a lifelong quest for the perfect Gyro. Ladies and gentlemen, I'm here to say, my quest is complete. We settled on Aristo, and walked in with 30 minutes until their listed closing time (at 7:30pm). We were told, "we're not taking any more orders, we're tired. We need more staff." That's fine for for their situation, but we will not be back. We found one of their Mediterranean style competitors, not too far away. It was excellent! No reason to return to Aristo. We stopped here after a beach day for lunch. Our lunch was amazing!! So glad we found this gem of a Greek restaurant with such a nice owner too. At first we were getting the food to go, but the owner brought our gyro and chicken shawarma to taste and we opted to stay and eat in. The layers of flavors and spices put into each sandwich is divine! Fresh food, perfectly spiced and cooked meats, great balance of meat to veggies to gyro wrap. Best eaten while hot. I have absolutely no idea what Mediterranean food all these 5 Star reviewers are used to but I am a hard pass on Aristo. We did takeout............ $36 for Veggie Kabob (with unrecognizable cold vegetables) that appear to have been deep fried (?), Chicken kabob was very tough and really tasteless, hummus tasted quite sour and gyro was served with minimal sauce and not even a slice of tomato or tiny piece of lettuce. Side salads were totally bland. Dumped majority of food.......Not sure why cooks only wear one glove and only put it on halfway thro food prep? read more

Summary: Delicious food. The chicken schwarma and gyro sandwiches are excellent. Possibly understaffed during lunch rush. My first experience with Aristo was interesting. I ordered for takeout are around 12:15pm on a Friday afternoon and the notification said the food would be ready in 30 to 40 minutes. I arrived around 12:40 and checked in then sat down to wait for my order. It became clear that there was a problem with the kitchen. From what I could tell, there were a number of people waiting for their food, many were lunchtime workers that needed to get back to the office and were waiting much longer than expected. The owner was frustrated with the cook and the woman operating the register. There were only three on staff, and they were struggling to keep up because of communication issues, delivery to wrong tables, etc. The owner mentioned to one table that this happens once a month and apologized to the table. I waited an extra 20 minutes after arriving before my order was ready, which isn't that late per se, but was unexpected. The most awkward part was seeing people uncomfortably late for getting back to work and seeing the frustration between staff members through the glass. That said, the staff continued to focus on quality of their product as they completed each order. On to the food. We ordered the chicken schwarma wrap and gyro wrap with fries. Both were excellent, and I'd dare say worth the wait. The quality of everything was spot on. Thankfully they use white onions instead of red because our order came with white onions in the gyro sandwich despite asking for them only on the side, but the issues with delayed order and such are not enough to prevent us from visiting again. I hope the next visit will be a little less dramatic, though. read more
