I'll say 2 stars. But only if you read "2-stars" as "never going back." Sent my son and daughter-in-law here with their Subaru. AAC made changes and fixed issues that cost us $3100. No problem...if that fixes things. But it didn't. 3 days later...a broken down car on the side of the road, with my kids and grandson needing to be taken home in the second row of a tow truck (fortunately in town, and not on some lone highway). Unacceptable, but exactly what happened. Had it towed to them. $300 more of fixes (with more upselling along the way) got it out of their care. Will it last?...we'll see. But of course, I'm guessing...no. If they couldn't see and fix an issue while our car was in their care, are they competent enough to trust them with yours? You decide. But we'll never go back. read more

Chris is really reasonable, provides honest advice even if it doesn't necessarily make him extra money, and talks to you like you're a normal person as opposed to a car person, which I'm not. I had the same experience as Angela E's post! Scroll down! They had my sedan for almost 3 months and it was essentially exactly the same as it was when I dropped it off, but they got $2500 from me. My car is now in my garage, because of what they didn't do $2500 later. 24 hours after picking up, it ran hot and I got stranded, they didn't check my fluids at all. I was low on just about everything that could be topped off. IF YOU CARE ABOUT INTEGRITY & WORKMANSHIP, DO NOT GO HERE, IT'S NOT HERE! These guys do not have attention to detail and lack exceptional service. I wish them the best, but really hope that people don't get ripped off with not end product. I was working in Tempe from out of state when my truck broke down with a cracked cylinder head. Not really knowing anyone in the area, I asked a one of the tradesman on the job I was on if he knew of a reliable and honest mechanic nearby. He suggested Arizona Auto Care so that's where I went. I called AAC and told Jeff the problem with my truck and that I already had a new cylinder head with all the required gaskets and bolts being shipped to where I was staying and that I just needed AAC to install it. I had an estimate from AAC that night but looking it over I noticed that there were all kinds of extra items added to the estimate that i didn't ask for, need, or want done (because I do them myself); like charging the AC system, replacing spark plugs, topping off fluids, checking tire pressure, etc. I called Jeff back and told him that I only wanted AAC to install the new cylinder head and that I didn't want any other work done on the truck, so he sent me a revised estimate. It looked reasonable. When I dropped the truck off and handed the keys over, Jeff said they would call me when it was done. A couple days later he called me and I picked up the truck that afternoon. Truck was running okay. No leaks or issues. After about a week, when I was replacing the spark plugs I noticed that the wiring harness clip for one of my coil packs was broken and loose. It wasn't broken before I took my truck to AAC, but rather than making a big deal out of it I just bought a new one and fixed the problem myself. I drove it all over Tempe for another month and when I was done with that job, I then made the 400 mile drive back home without any issues. My truck was still running okay. This was in April 2020 Fast forward to Sept. 2020 and 6,000 miles later: My truck is misfiring, running hotter than normal, losing significant amounts of coolant, and smoking badly out of the tail pipe. When I popped the hood I first noticed one of my exhaust manifold bolts was loose, and there was also a good amount of oil running down the side of the cylinder head. The same cylinder head that AAC installed just 5 months prior. Also coolant was visible on my down pipe, which isn't normal. When I pulled my spark plugs to check things out, one of the cylinders was filled with coolant up to the top of the spark plug opening. It was on the same side as the new cylinder head that AAC installed 5 months earlier. This weekend, my friend who is a mechanic helped me tear everything down to the cylinder head, including removal of the cylinder head. I could not believe the shotty work from Arizona Auto Care did , or the blatant disregard shown for my truck by Arizona Auto Care. The following is a list of additional problems that were discovered during the process of removing components to be able to remove the same cylinder head that I paid Arizona Auto Care $1200.00 to install: 1. Missing bolt for air conditioner belt tensioner. Belt loose and squealing. 2. Head gasket looked damaged. Was it installed that way? 3. Head bolts not tightened per spec. Not tightened enough 4. Leaking oil from cam plug. Didn't use the required FIPG/silicone 5. Bolt for fuel line keep is cross-threaded in the plenum so severely that there is no way the hack who did it didn't know that he did it. 6. Non-reusable exhaust gaskets were reused Arizona Auto Care just cost me an additional $1000.00 to fix their hack job "repair" of my truck. If you value your vehicle, your time, or your money I would suggest avoiding Arizona Auto Care at all costs. I might be able to overlook one or two minor mistakes, but with as many as I discovered in the last few days, it's pretty clear to me that Arizona Auto Care really doesn't care at all... Not about their customers, or about having professional mechanics that do quality work. They should call themselves Arizona Auto Don't Care. That at least would be honest. read more

Came here on a reference from fellow Yelper Taylor F. I called Greg and he quickly gave a run through of the cost and likely source of my problem (an "on" engine light). I needed to fix it quick so I could run my car through emissions and then update my registration. I was told there was a $90 charge for running a diagnostic to find the area where the problem is (this system does not tell what the exact problem is). This $90 was in no way a deposit toward further work (Greg was very clear about that).That seemed sort of steep just to hook my car up to a computer that kind of tells someone where to start looking for an issue, but what the eff do I know about cars? Not much, which was why I avoided dealing with this engine light issue for about ....oh, a year and a half (what?! I have a Honda!) The business is only open 7-5 M-F, which presents a problem for any person with a job they use their car to get to and work pretty much those exact hours. When I mentioned that, Greg asked how closely I worked to their location and offered a drop off service. Since Taylor gave him such glowing reviews, I decided there was no need to call around for a better diagnostic charge: a $10-20 savings here wasn't much compared to knowing that going forward with any work on the car would be honest and reasonable. So I scheduled an appointment for Monday morning (it was a Friday early afternoon when I called). Quickly and easily dropped my car off with Greg (who seemingly answers the phone, runs the counter and does the mechanic work??) He was great in person -- just normal and laid back. Never condescneding or sleazy-salesy (as, in my experience, mechanics are wont to be toward women. Or maybe they're like that to everyone, but in any case, Greg was not). By mid-morning I had an answer: a leaky gas cap. He would order one and replace it same day and even offered to run it to emissions for me all by 3p. It would be $12 for the cap and the normal $27 for the emissions test. Amazing! (Due to the schedule of the person giving me a ride to pick up my car, I had to pick up before he could take it to emissions for me, boo, but good to know, would have been great to skip a trip down there myself.) Got my car, and it wasn't for another week, when I would gas up again, that I noticed he also fixed a bent latch that made my gas tank door a bitch and a half to open and close. Yay, Greg! Thank you for being an honest and awesome mechanic and putting the ladies who feel awkward/wayward/out of place in this arena at ease. I will happily recommend this place to any friend. read more

This is a great, honest, capable mechanic shop that I would recommend to anyone. The place is run very well, they care about their customers, and stand by their work. As others have said greg is the best service writer you could get. Also as others have mentioned if you have a subaru and cant afford the dealership this is the only place I would recommend taking it. In fact, in general when it comes to any newer or high end vehicle this is the only place I'd recommend. They also seem to be extra proficient in VW. Subaru Master Tech..The best shop for my 2006 Forester.. I took it for an Oil Change @ Firestone..Mistake! While following my daughter home..she called me on her cell phone stating the car was driving funny..Instead of taking it back to Firestone, we took it straight home and parked it..Called Greg @ Az Auto care that Monday and he got us in.. They drained my transmission fluid.!!!!.This was 3 years ago and i've been bringing all 4 of are cars here..GMC and 2 Toyota's. I've waited to posted this review until i was 100% confident these guys are the REAL deal.I will NEVER take my cars anywhere else..They are closed on Weekends..That was a problem for me..But by dropping me off and then picking ME up..I will work around it.. Broken AC in Arizona is no laughing matter and this shop gave us very good service in a short amount of time (with very little notice), at a very good price. After getting ripped off several times over, I found this place for a small repair. I warned them ahead of time not to bother trying to overcharge me because I couldn't afford it. The manager laughed and said that they had more work than they needed, didn't advertise, and the shop is not visible from the street. He said they worked by word of mouth, so it was in their best interest to take care of me. They did. I've been taking my cars to them for years, along with my mom and anyone else I can recommend them to. Excellent shop who take the best care of you. Highly recommend!! read more

I have since worked all around the valley and moved out of state and back and I have always only taken my vehicles there for service! I paid $100 for a diagnostic that was supposed to tell me exactly why my check engine light was coming on and why it was misfiring. I've been back about 4 times because they haven't been able to fix the problem and after doing a bunch of work, I'm still in the same place I was 4 months ago. They wouldn't give me refund. Brought my Honda in for AC problems. Was told that air was blowing 40. Returned 4 times with AC problems. Paid $400 for repairs and still not cold air 100% of the time. Still have no AC will be going back for the 5th time. Also spent a huge amount for steering rack parts and picked car upand the steering wheel is harder to turn and different than when I brought it in. Not happy and will not be bringing my Honda in any more for repairs. read more

Read the reviews from the GarageFly site and decided to give Arizona Auto Care (AAC) a shot. My engine light was on and the vehicle was misfiring or sputtering when I tried to accelerate. Dropped off vehicle on 4/23/13 and service representative called and said the spark plugs and wire set had to be replaced. I had the spark plugs and wires replaced around the 100,000 mile mark and was told that the spark plugs and wires last 100,000 for my model. The mileage on my vehicle around that time was around 160,000. My bill was $471 (including a $93 diagnostic charge) to replace the spark plugs and wire set. I am no mechanic but I was told by one that the price was kind of steep. I told them to go ahead and change the spark plugs and wire set. The service manager called and told me that vehicle was running fine and the engine light was off. When I drove off the lot, the engine light came on and it was still sputtering. I called a week later and was told to bring the vehicle back for another diagnosis. I brought the vehicle back on 5/1/2013 and the driver dropped me off at my apartment. The day passed and I did not hear anything so I called AAC and was told that the driver had left and unless I had someone to drop me off, my vehicle would have to remain at the shop overnight. My main issue is not with having to spend a day without transportation or spending $471 to have my spark plugs and wire set changed. My issue is when I went to pick up my vehicle and the service manager says that the ignition coils and one fuel injector has to be replaced and the total charges would be $441 to have the work done. To make matters worse my vehicle ran even worse than it did before my initial visit. Rather than paying almost $1,000 for repairs, I decided to get a second estimate. By referral I took my vehicle to Tony's Auto Repair on 7th AVE and Broadway. I told him that I needed two ignition coils and one fuel injector replaced. He performed a free diagnosis and told me that the fuel injector was fine and the last mechanic to work on my vehicle had left it unplugged! He did also note that the two ignition coils had to be replaced. He did not like the wire set and replaced them with new ones. The charge for the entire new spark plug wire set was $25. The thing with Tony was that he was totally transparent. He showed me the new wires and the other parts that he replaced as he was actually doing the job. I have no idea what was actually done for repairs performed by AAC. I was charged $225 dollars by Tony's Repair Shop to have two ignition coils replaced and a new wire set that had just been replaced two weeks ago. My biggest regret is not knowing about Tony's Auto Repair sooner so I could have saved money. I am no expert when it comes to car repair and maintenance but I do know that there are two types of mechanics. Honest mechanics and those that are out there to get paid. I have been 100% honest about my experience. I have receipts to back up my statements. You be the judge! read more

Even though the shop is buried in a small industrial center, you will find AZ Auto Care well worth the hunt. Finding an honest mechanical shop is no mean feat, but since my first visit (on the recommendation of a reconditioning manager) in 2010, I've been servicing 3 vehicles (2 BMW, 1 Land Rover) with Jeff and his team. Good mechanics (I've spent some time on the shop floor), fair pricing, honest and accurate diagnosis, and outstanding service from Greg make this my favorite and only shop of choice in Phoenix. The lobby aesthetics won't impress you (no feng shui here), but you will feel great doing business here. read more

We have been going to this place for years and have always had a positive experience. (As positive as it gets when you need to get your car repaired). I think we have been there about 5 times over the last 10 years or so. I generally work on our family's cars unless it is too involved or I don't have time and then we call Arizona Auto Care. They worked on our Acura Integra, then Chevy Tahoe, then Chevy Trailblazer and in each case helped us get back on the road. The place is a little hard to find teh first time and pretty plain to look at, but I would rather not have my service fee pay for a nice fancy waiting room. read more

I was originally referred here by the DMV when they still had an emissions repair program for older vehicles. I was impressed by the fact that they were one of the only shops that were actually certified and partnered with the DMV to perform such work. I have not been disappointed since. I am a Volvo nerd, and have taken my 850, 940, and now my S80 here regularly. It can be very difficult to find a competent shop (other than the dealership) to work on Volvos, especially older ones. I highly recommend this shop for any kind of auto work, but especially if you have a foreign vehicle that might be hard to work on anywhere else. They have always been upfront with me about prices- always offering me a detailed estimate and explaining it each step of the way. I had a friend who is also a mechanic take a look at their estimates and he told me they were very accurate, straightforward, and fair. They are better at communicating than any other shop I have dealt with- calling me in the morning when they start work on my car from the night drop off, calling me immediately with any questions or problems, and calling me promptly when the vehicle is finished. I have been impressed with how quickly they have completed work on my car and how accurate they have been with their time estimates to get the work done. I was also pleased when I had them run a diagnostic on an air bag light and when they realized it was something they couldn't fix (software had to be downloaded from the dealership only) they discounted the diagnostic fee for me. I will continue to bring my vehicles here for as long as they are in business. It is hard to find the shop in the little industrial complex they are in but it is conveniently located right in the heart of Tempe. I would recommend this shop to anyone. read more
