I've been wanting to try this place for a bit. We went on a Tuesday night right when they opened and were seated right away. We stayed a few hours and the place had consistent traffic, but not crowded. A lot of convention/meeting goers it seemed. Service was prompt and friendly. We never had to wait too long and whenever we needed something, she seemed to show up. The place has a contemporary vibe, with an open-air feel. The acoustics are great for having conversations and being able to hear each other. Food was also incredible. Only minor complaints that can be easily fixed. The oysters were a bit tiny, but I think that's a seasonal thing. The only other complaint we had was our pasta was under-cooked, again an easy fix. ARLO is such a cute brunch spot! They've recently renovated the area and it reminds me of brunch in Miami next to the pool and all the palm trees. My group decided to get together for brunch since it was DJ hosted and the music was pretty good! The drinks were strong and the food was ok. I thought the ambiance of the restaurant was nice and appreciated the music from the live Dj. However, foodwise, I was underwhelmed by the brunch menu. I ordered steak and eggs with a latte while my friend had a salad with salmon. Taste and presentation were okay, and I would say the prices are fair. The service was also mediocre as we kept having to call the waitresses' attention for drink refills and request the desert menu ourselves. I also thought they might offer something special for the bday celebrant since it was noted in my reservation but they did not sadly. Came here with my sisters and cousins for Sunday brunch. This place is a really nice spot located inside town and country hotel. Parking is free with validation so make sure you bring your parking ticket cause you'll be parking inside the garage. Honestly what made us pick this spot is that it said DJs would be playing some 90s-2000 throwback music. Immediately we were drawn to that and made a reservation online. We got there, the DJ was on the other side, music was whatever but oh well. We all ordered drinks, and service was pretty slow. We ordered food, that took a little bit too. 3 out of 5 of us got the arlo benedict. Flavor was okay, not much flavor in their pork belly and their hollandaise was thick. This restaurant is located inside of the old Town & Country hotel which was recently renovated. We've come to the mOnkey Bar in past and liked the vibe. This time we met friends for dinner and hit up their restaurant bar and prix fixe menu. The cocktail I ordered is my goto Amaretto sour but instead of making it on the rocks , the bartender Tom? made it "on the top" served in a small circle shaped martini glass. (Egg white included). When I travel I prefer to sample from local eateries. My wife and I were in San Diego, and decided to eat at the restaurant at our hotel. Arlo has a subdued, but upscale feel. The window looking out on the hotel grounds is wonderful. We decided to share a plate. We settled on the Bison accompanied by black garlic mashed potatoes, and a fresh fig. I believe that, (generally speaking) the serving size is smaller in California, than in Texas. Once I got over the 1/4 cup of potatoes, (in a tiny cup just above the main plate in the picture) I began to eat. The potatoes were very good. The Bison was awesome! On the outside; there was a slight char. On the inside of the cut; the meat was soft, and rich with flavor. The steak stood on its own, but was made even better by the sauce. The fresh, sweet fig was the counterpoint to the rich, savory tastes of the rest of the plate. read more

Since there was a group of 5 of us, we decided to order three 4 course pre fixe menus and two additional entrees, so we can share appetizers and dessert. This gave us the opportunity to try a little bit of everything! For our visit, we shared Snow Crab & Squash, Wood Fired Oysters, Pulpo & Passion, Lamb Meatball for appetizers. The standout were the lamb meatballs, which were juicy, not gamey, and leaned towards a Japanese curry flavor profile. For my entree, I ordered California Lamb Rack with Smoked Potato Purée, Gruyère Panna Cotta, Purple Cabbage, and Swiss Chard. The lamb was cooked to a perfect temperature, and the smoked potato purée was creamy. I tried the scallop on my boyfriend's plate, and while it was well cooked, it was overly seasoned and salty. So I was pleasantly surprised by the entire facility itself and the restaurant location within the resort was really nice. The restaurant validated for parking in the garage which was good. We tried drinks (well I did) appetizers, entrees and a dessert. I had the spicy margarita. Regular spicy then asked for a slightly spicier one. Both good no complaints. We ordered the beet salad. Wood fired oysters and the raviolis for apps. All good but the wood fired oysters were the star. Highly recommend. The beets were great and made the apps feel healthier. I got the pork shank barria for my main. The other mains were the tuna and the steak. Everyone really enjoyed their dishes but I loved the barria. It was so tender and flavorful. I honestly can still drum up the flavor profile in my mouth Now. It came with a fluffy polenta that honestly i didn't understand. There was no substance to the polenta. That was definitely disappointing as I am a polenta fan. Next time I would sub out for mashed potatoes. For dessert we got the smoked crème brûlée. Which was good and the smoke presentation made the dish. But it wasn't a great crème brûlée. But I'm not complaining about it at all. What a great hidden gem! Tucked in hotel circle, this restaurant was such a treat with great ambiance, fantastic service and the food was amazing! Listen, we all know how expensive eating at a good spot can be and Arlo offers a 3 course meal for $65!! There's also an option for 4 dishes at a fixed price. The pulpo and tartar were mind blowing, definitely recommend trying them. The duck and steak were perfectly cooked and so flavorful, I want to go back and try the rest of the mains. Christmas dinner done right at Arlo! Husband and I split everything (1 Christmas prefixed menu, 1 Regular prefixed menu) Nice ambiance, and good food too. From Christmas Menu: PUMPKIN SPICED GNOCCHI (with Smoked Prosciutto, Butternut Squash Cream, Pomegranate Seed) was lovely. Soft gnocchi and flavorful sauce. Portion size was a bit small and we wanted more! DUCK TWO WAYS (asked for only Roasted Breast instead of breast + Confit Leg) with Yukon Potato, Napa Cabbage, Mulled Wine Sauce Duck was cooked perfectly well! A little pink to look at, but definitely done well. The sauce and cabbage was DELICIOUS! Sauce and duck and cabbage was amazing too. The space is very large and aesthetically pleasing with a trendy California coastal vibe. There is indoor, outdoor and bar seating. I have dined at Arlo on four occasions since the restaurant opened, yet I realize I never have commented on my experiences until now. Sadly, this fourth visit, which occurred on this just-passed Good Friday, was the least satisfying of the four visits. There was no one posted at the hostess podium when we arrived. I could see three employees talking at the far end of the bar who looked over at us standing in the reception and continued their talking for the just that one nanosecond too long. We had originally planned to sit on the outdoor terrace, but the Latin music from the neighboring outdoor bar was so loud and raucous that my guest stated she preferred to dine inside, where we ended up at a comfortable round table next to the back window. The waiter approached the table and a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc was ordered. He brought over the wine. After the initial pour, he stated to me "I am placing the wine and the ice bucket right behind you". I inquired: "Are you going to be pouring the wine throughout the meal?" At that, he gave me a disgusted look and barked "Well, when I am servicing your table I will pour it, but I have other tables!" And you guessed it, the irony is he NEVER ONCE poured the wine after the initial pour, even the few times he deemed to "service" the table. As I have commented before on other restaurants, the inflated prices restaurants charge for wines is in part for the service and presentation of the wines. Accordingly, as in this case, since there was ZERO wine service, the price should be reduced. Maybe Arlo could institute a two pricing system for the wines, just as we used to have for gas---one, "full service" and one, "self serve", at a 20 percent reduction in price. Because it was Good Friday evening, no meat could cross our palate. Therefore, we began with a shared appetizer described on the menu as "Jerk Spiced Vegetable Churrasco". It consisted of a few large and hard pieces of fennel and pineapple and potato on a skewer served with a very sharp knife. Neither the taste nor the presentation appealed. The sourdough bread served at extra cost at Arlo was good as always. Bravo for that. However, a waitress approached and stated to my guest "Hey, what are you doing?" Then she broke out into a laugh and stated she jokes like that with everyone. That interaction seemed rather bizarre and was an interruption of mood. Moreover, she continually kept trying to remove the sourdough bread from our table. We ordered it and we want it to remain on our table until we have completed our main courses! My guest and I both ordered the Halibut because of the no-meat rule for us on the day of our visit. It was enjoyable. A Brandy Alexander was something my guest wanted after dinner. That is a drink I would tend not to order, but she enjoyed it and it recalled another happy moment for her in her youth [she is 87 years old]. As we were leaving, we needed to validate our parking. Accordingly, as we approached the hostess podium on our way out, we noted the hostess was deep in talks away from the podium with a waitress. I had to call out to her to get her attention to validate our ticket. Of interest, apparently they were talking about a table sending back food they did not like. I overheard the waitress say "She only ate one chop" [it may have been a different word than "chop"}, to which the hostess responded "Just remove it from her bill". With that auspicious comment, we were off into the night. read more

Went to Arlo this last weekend and had the most fantastic experience. The ambiance firstly, was so great. I highly suggest sitting outside on their giant patio. They have plenty of heating if needed. There was live music at the hotel, tons of fun happening at the pool and around but because of how much space there is, that added to the ambiance and wasn't overwhelming. Every person working there was genuinely friendly and our server, Pierce was a highlight. Great suggestions, humor and high-end service the whole time. The manager interacted with everyone and stopped by multiple times, including serving us one of our courses. There is a full menu and you can make it a custom pre-fixe (for a really good price) or order the way you want. What also was impressive was how great it was for kids. We brought my boys, 5 and 9, who are total foodies but are tough to keep entertained. I came prepared because I wanted us all to have a great time. The kids menu was awesome and was same level of delicious as the regular menu. At the end, I could let the kids run around on the grass with all the space with other kids while easily keeping my eye on them. Some kids came and went from their tables too and it was nice. Down to the most important - food. We had the oysters and marrow/tartare for starters. Per Peirce's suggestion their famous sourdough. Kids got pizza and the fish, black cod and duck for entrees and the creme brulee for dessert. Food is great for the value. Presentation was lovely. Flavors are overall complex and complimentary. Some dishes were good but not out of this world but I suspect the food will only get better and better over time as the Chef is on to something really great. The restaurant has thoughtful San Diego themed decor and beautiful furniture with comfy seats. We ordered a bottle of wine for half off wine Wednesdays and started with the sourdough which was excellent. For entrees we had the pork chop and sea bass which were both cooked perfectly and had great flavors in their corresponding sauces. My wife and I recently moved in to an apartment complex next door. We went in for an early dinner for my wife's birthday. The staff was very friendly and attentive, the decore was great and live music was being played outside! We split the four course tasting menu and everything we had was incredible. We started with a side order of the sourdough which was an incredible addition to the tasting menu. I called around 9:25pm to make a reservation for a party of 5 on Thursday night, a little late but they are advertised as open until 10p, for a celebration with my group and was told they were no longer taking reservations and were closing soon. I was disappointed because my party and I thought this place looked really nice for a late night dinner/drink, but did not get to book a reservation. If closing at 9:30p, please advertise that because it states on your website and 3rd party services open until 10pm. read more

This restaurant is located in Mission Valley at the Town & Country Resort. Parking was fairly easy, however, I do suggest parking in a spot on the 2nd level. The reason is because trying to backup and get out on the 1st level was a bit of a nightmare with so many cars trying to get out. All cars trying to exit the garage had to all be stopped to place their validation card in the machine and so they had to all wait in a long line that started extending up to the 2nd floor. Upon entering the restaurant, we were seated immediately. Nice atmosphere, there was a DJ playing music and someone walking around with mimosa cart offering to make these drinks for you at your table. We received the menu, i was hoping for a bit more of a brunch menu selection. It was a bit pricey. I really like the Avocado Toast. We also ordered the Souffle Pancakes and the Short rib hash and Egg. The pancakes were a bit on the dry aide and the short ribs could have used more seasoning. I dont know if I'd return. A quick update: Returned to ARLO for another impeccable dinner. Tucked away behind Fashion Valley Mall in the Town and Country Resort, ARLO knocks it out every time. This place does a fantastic job with their food but my favorite thing this time around was the Wizardry: a butter-washed old fashioned that's creamy, buttery, and just oh-so-delicious. One just wasn't enough. Their sourdough was just as I remembered: crisp on the outside, hot and soft on the inside. This accompanied by their butter, garlic spread, and smoked finishing salt, I had half a mind to ask for some sourdough starter. Entrees: -Pacifico bass: crispy, crunchy skin and soft, flakey interior. It came with a few clams, a date jus, and my favorite: crunchy Spatzle (small egg noodle dumplings fried for that perfect crunch). -Taste of Ribeye: two cuts of meat, trumpet mushrooms, smoked salt, poached potato and some broccolini. This is my second time at Arlo. I thought I wrote a previous review but somehow it went MIA. Went here for a ladies night out during Restaurant week and to celebrate my friends birthday. They offer a three course meal for $60. You choose an appetizer, entree and dessert. There were 3 choices for each except dessert only had two. I started off with the octopus appetizer. Then moved on to the pork belly. Everything was seasoned well and tender. I finished it off with the smoked creme Brule which was a show! They bring it out in a dish with a lid and slowly lift the lid and swirl the smoke. Additionally, we added in the sourdough bread which is beyond fabulous and a couple of tasty cocktails. It was a fabulous meal, the waitress was amazing. They validate your parking for the garage next door. What's not to love? While your there take a look at the San Diego wall. We went on Sunday and the host was busy on the phone attending another guest, and the other host came quickly to the rescue. It was really sweet to see them working as a team and accommodating the guest. Wish I can remember our waitress name but she was super helpful and patient with us as we look at the menu. The mimosa girl was so sweet and made us laugh a couple of times, we almost got bottomless mimosas because of her haha. My boyfriend got the Morning Wagyu Burger and he reallyyyy enjoyed it. I got the pancakes and I've been craving them since. We also ordered a Grand Fizz and it was also yummy to drink. The place overall is nice and felt good to be in.
