Historically I had a level of loyalty to Armbrust Plumbing; unfortunately they've had some level of shift to a typical bait and switch tactic seen with fly by night operations... Scheduling my most recent appointment (which predicates a $89 service call fee) they refused to provide any kind of pricing, even just loose orders of magnitude. I tried to confirm if they'd have a standard anode rod for my water heater and provided model information and they basically couldn't promise it even a week in advance. Upon the techs arrival (who was extremely polite and knowledgeable), he affirmed all pricing was standard and flat rate, and it was all rather outlandish. I was in a situation where I just needed it done and was "already out the service fee" so I paid nearly a THOUSAND DOLLARS for them to drain my water heater and replace a $70 part. This is insane. So the fact that they are actively hiding their pricing until someone is on site when the pricing is flat rate anyways is illegal and against the IFCA/UDTPA acts Steer clear; it is clear they are not who they used to be. read more

Armbrust installed a faucet in my kitchen on sept 9th 2024. i noticed spout shank lock nut was loose about 3 or 4 days before the warranty expired.. I called ARMBRUST and explained the problem. They told me they would not honor the warranty because I did not purchase the kitchen faucet from them. I could not find or was told there would be no warranty after installation. read more

What?! I can't give zero stars?! I cannot tell you if their work is any good or not, because their handling of my request for quote to replace a grinder pump in my lift station, and the subsequent email correspondence, indicated that they were not going to give me what I requested and what I needed, especially when they did not make any attempt to check the specifications of the existing failed pump, that was easy to inspect and identify after I had the lift station pumped out, but instead they were trying to sell me an inadequate pump for the application at an outrageously high price with no cost breakdown and only a one year warranty. To say that this company lacks the knowledge and experience that's emblematic of a top rated plumbing company would be a reasonable conclusion. However, the situation with Armbrust is much worse. They are unethical. They are crooks. They are liars. Nobody should trust them. Nobody should use them. They are scam artists. They give plumbers a bad reputation and they should be called out. Please read ALL of the one star negative reviews before refusing to use them. I would never use them. read more

I was unavailable when Armbrust showed up so my wife met with the plumber, and I can't stand it when "specialists" take advantage of a situation. My issue: Water line from wall to toilet leaks. The valve is corroded and needs to be replaced. Armbrust solution: They tried selling my wife a new toilet, the installation ALONE of which would be $354. Mind you - The existing toilet is absolutely fine. Conclusion: Hacks. I'll fix it myself. Just wish I had my $89 BS fee back that was charged for someone to come out and do LITERALLY nothing. read more

So I needed a new sump pump. Called these guys, they seemed reasonable and were quick. Guy comes, tells me because of where my sump pump is he'd be surprised if it ever kicks on, but I told him to proceed and install the new one regardless. After he installs it I asked if we could test it. He said "no, why would I want to do that, it's your sump pump now" and literally packs up his gear and leaves. Wow. For the record, the thing kicks in all the time during heavy rains, even though the genius plumber said he'd be surprised if it ever did. Anyway, I would strongly advice against this company. Clearly they don't stand behind their work or give a crap about customers. read more

15 plus years of excellent plumbing services! Over the years we have come to depend on Armburst Plumbing for all our plumbing needs (from minor repairs to major remodeling of baths and kitchen). We have never been disappointed. Adam C. is the plumber we ask for. He has always been most helpful, direct and a true craftsman (and very pleasant to talk with). Recently, on a Saturday, we had a leak develop in the cast iron sewer pipe that exits our home. I called Armbrust and was pleased to find that they have weekend service. In a short time Oscar arrived and confirmed that the pipe was cracked. He took steps to minimize the leak. On Monday, one of the owners (Pat) called at a little past 8 AM. He had talked with Oscar and had reviewed the photos that he had taken. Pat discussed various repair options and gave a ``ballpark'' figure for the repair. On Tuesday @ 8:30 AM David arrived and in 2 + hours was able to cut out the cracked section and replace it with PCV pipe. He also reconfigured the sewer pipe so that there would be better drainage. Don't be fooled by their ad of "don't over pay" because that is exactly what I did. I called for a simple plumbing service of replacing a kitchen faucet. I was given an appt. and waited. End of story- I was charged $731 for 1 hour of labor and an additional $89 for a "service" call. I had the exact faucet to replace and area cleared and cleaned for service. Be forewarned! I had my central air go down during a recent heat spell. I didn't think there would be much of a chance of getting it repaired before the next heat wave was due in just a few days. Armbust came to my rescue, not only did I have my air back in service before the next impending heat wave, it was done at a price that beat out two other local contractors who gave me estimates. I can't say enough about the professional service that I received. Their HVAC manager John answered all my questions. He performed loan calculations based on my house and didn't try to over sell anything. He gave me the information I needed to make the right choice for me and my family. The installation technician Clayton was also great, he explained exactly what he was going to do and the timeframe in which he would do it. Cleaned up the place after he was done I wouldn't even have known he was ever there. My old unit was 22 years old and it was fried. I got this diagnosis from no less than three different HVAC companies. John put me into a new unit that came with several rebates that helped lower my cost and I didn't have to do a thing. Armbrust handled all the paperwork for both the rebates and the warranties. I literally didn't have to do anything but write a check. We recently had to replace our Furnace & A/C unit simultaneously. We got 3 bids and while Armburst was not the least expensive - it certainly mirrors the sentiment you get what you pay for. When the rep came out to discuss our needs he spent an hour with me explaining in great detail what time of system would be the most effective (In the midst of an in home child care setting!) John was extremely patient and truly took the time to answer every question we had. He also assisted us in getting financing for this purchase - another great Perk! This was not the case with the other estimates. When our installers arrived today (Jay S. & Louis P.) They were courteous, patient and extremely helpful. They kept me informed during the entire process and were very aware of the circumstances of the install with small children and 2 large dogs in their paths! But the best part of this install was the amazing clean up job they did!! You would never even know they were here today. Believe me this has not always been the case with workmen in my home - they often leave lights on all over the place and their garbage in my home for me to clean up! Wheaton, IL Although I have had Armbrust Plumbing previously, with very good results, this recent experience was a 1 or 2 star. Over the past several years they did a professional job, thorough work, took measures to keep everything tidy, and clean (although maybe a bit pricey). On Nov 21, 2018, we had them out to fix a leak in our bathtub faucet. There was a dried out, leaking gasket behind the overflow in the tub. The workman, Bruce, said THEY don't have any type of gasket to replace it, and would need to replace all the piping between the tub drain and the overflow, which would mean breaking holes in our kitchen ceiling to access. (can't fix it, would need very costly repair). Also, the tub faucet needed a new washer, so it wouldn't drip, and he told he he didn't think he could fix it, as it was 60 years old. I pointed out it was all copper piping, and that the fixture was not that old. He seemed like he didn't want to even try. Lo and behold, the faucet 'broke', and he said he couldn't do anything more. Put it back together. His attitude seemed like he didn't want to be there, didn't want to attempt to fix things, and didn't even offer /suggest new faucets/shower hardware, or even offer to come back at a later date to fix/repair/replace. I told him to leave. As you can see from the date, this was the day before Thanksgiving, and we were hosting dinner. ....maybe he had other jobs to complete before Thanksgiving, or wanted to get home early? He left the hallway, bathroom floor, and tub full of dirt from his clothes/shoes ( don't know if this was dirt/feeces from previous job??) And charged us $223. to give us a bad attitude, dirt, and tried to replace a faucet washer-couldn't. I called Armbrust Plumbing owner, Rich, on 11-29. Explained the situation, he said he would check into things and call me back in 1-2 days. It has been a week, and no return call or correspondence. I guess I, a customer, don't matter to him. I had another plumber (different company) come out...he replaced the rubber gasket, installed new faucet/shower parts. This other plumber had: Positive attitude, professional work, cleaned up after himself, fair pricing. read more

This is about Armbrust Plumbing. I had a leaky tub faucet. They came out, here only to check brand of faucet, so they could order the part. For less than 1/2 hr , they charged what they called a trip charge, $223. Then they came back to put the part in, maybe here for 3/4 hr & wanted to charge another $185. Their credit card machine wouldn't work, so I didn't pay it. Then a few days later, the ball & handle of the faucet fell off. My friend was able to put it on. So I contacted Rich Armbrust the owner, through written & voice mail to tell him, that under the circumstances , I think we should call it even. He didn't even reply, but sent be a bill for the $185 + $5 late fee. So, they want over $400 for a leaky faucet! I contacted the Better Business Bureau, but I don't know if they can help. Recently had my external condo utility closet damaged due to water damage to the unit above. This created a literal mess with damage to my water heater and walls and ceiling. To fix, I needed to have the water heater and furnace completely removed and have another party fix the drywall and floor, to then have the new water heater and furnace installed. This was a very tight space to work in as well as unconventional in the type of water heater required and Armbrust was amazing to work with. Had a problem with a backed up kitchen sink in Wheaton. Called in the morning and they were able to have Dave out in the afternoon. Great! Dave was on time and very friendly. He came in got right to work and fixed the problem. Sink was back in service like new! My only gripe (and in no way related to Dave) was the overall cost of the service which was $227 for a 45 minute service call. Frankly, Armbrust, this is a bit much by any measure. About $175 I would have been okay with but the $50 charge for use of the rodding machine.... come on! If I hire a carpenter I don't expect him to charge me for the hammer and nails. A painter does not bill for the roller and brushes. Why are you billing for the tools of your trade... Just a way to gouge people I suspect. I'm actually quite familiar with pricing of services....labor, materials, incidentals, overhead, etc. I think you're finishing touch of adding in a final $14.00 for "fuel and consumable recovery" was rather quite inventive... taking a cue from the taxi cab companies are we? I was washing my dog, and went down to the basement after I was done with wash. I saw my carpet all wet and water came down from the ceiling. I took shower in the morning, and so as my son, and it was fine, so something must have happened. I called Armbrust for the first time. The lady explained what they would do and how much it would be. I did not want to wait so I asked her to send someone. Within an hour, Pat showed up at my door. Went down stairs and checked what was going on. He explained what he would do and what needed to be happened. The work was done within 30 min. He explained more about what happened and what needs to be done. I called Armburst because I see the name all the time and I knew that the business was family owned in Wheaton. I appreciate Pat's job and how he was. I do hope I don't have to call them again, however, I will call them for another issue if happened. read more

Adam diagnosed the problem quickly and easily. He's confident and knows his stuff. He found and fixed the most obvious issue economically and quickly (obvious to him, not to us!). Sometimes, with plumbing, the hardest part of the problem is figuring out the cause of the problem. Fixing it is the easy part, comparably. It's too early to tell if what he found is the only issue--there may be a deeper (as in, under the concrete) problem too. But more than likely, what he found is exactly what was causing our soil stack to leak. read more

I hired them to repair a frozen pipe in my sprinkler system. They did the job and after they were done they told me about something else that needed to be done - replace the reduced pressure zone device, which made the repair the just did unnecessary, as the pipe would be replaced with the new RPC. I would rather have made the decision to do the replacement and avoid paying $200 for nothing. read more

After waking up to the smell of burning plastic and finding out our furnace was no longer working I began searching Yelp for local heating companies I could call. I couldn't look past Armbrust. Not only was it local to Wheaton but it had absolutely amazing reviews. I called in the morning to set up an appointment fully expecting it would be at least a day. Not only were they able to fit me in that day, they were able to do it mid day! I was already impressed but then they sent me an email with information about the service man making the call which included a photo and I was super impressed that they take the time to do that. Jeff showed up right on time and even called when on his way to alert me. He was friendly, informative and helpful while explaining the issues he found and even showed me the issues first hand. When it came down to fixing the multiple items or researching a replacement Jeff provided me with the necessary options and information to make a decision. He made calls to check on available warranties and requested the salesman John to stop by as well. John came out and provided me with a great deal of information. At no point did I feel pressured to purchase. After discussion my husband we chose to spend the money on a new furnace rather than pouring more money into the broken one. They were able to get us the one we wanted AND have it installed same week. We only had to make it one day without heat before our new furnace would be installed. I was told David would be the person installing our new furnace and he would arrive around 730. Just like Jeff, David called when he was on his way and arrived right on time. He walked me through the process and provided an estimate time for completion. Throughout the process he checked in just to report his status. At one point he called me in to decide on the venting options. He walked me through the different options and ultimately left it to me to decide. When he completed the job he showed me how to change the filters and explained all the new parts which were installed. The day he installed our new furnace was a day we had high wind advisories. When he was packing himself up he informed me that there had been a lot of debris flying around outside. He walked around the perimiter of the house with me and even helped me clean up the shingles that had blown off my roof! Talk about customer service. I had them out 6 weeks ago to fix a clogged drain. They claimed they power rodded it. I was charged $129.00 for travel and $14.00 for fuel, even though my property is located in Carol Stream also. He spent 45 minutes@ $156.00 an hour. $306.00 later, the sink is backing up again. My tenant called and was told they would not guarantee the work and possibly there is a block further down the line. For over $300.00 I would think the whole line would have been checked. I pay another plumber $250.00. He clears the ENTIRE line and sure enough, finds a barely recognizable wash cloth at the very end that has clearly been in the line for years and was probably pushed further down by the Armbrust plumber. If you are looking for a good plumber for less money, I can give you a recommendation but it won't be Armbrust. I will never use this company for my properties again. My tenant left a message Sunday evening with Ambrust to discuss the findings of the new plumber and they have still not returned the call. Very poor customer service. read more

After trying other plumbers I decided to go with Armbrust due to their very good ratings. I made an appointment to have work done and Adam came right on time. He was careful, thorough and explained how he was going to do the job. He worked quickly and deliberately. It took about two hours to get the job done. He left the house as clean as it was when he arrived as he brought in a drop sheet for our carpeted stairs and cardboard to protect the floor and walls. It was almost hard to believe the reviews for these guys, but I needed a plumber and "reasonable" always works for me. Tom got here and knocked out both my jobs in under 45 minutes. He had a hard time taking off a faucet flange, he said they often stick and if he couldn't get it off he would order a new one and cut it out. Well he got it off, repaired the faucet and I'm back in business. The person answering phones could not be nicer and more helpful. Highly recommend. read more

I recently found myself in need of a plumbing repair in a commercial setting. To be honest, I had called a couple of different companies out to look at what we had determined to be a slow leak from a joint in a hot water pipe. We ultimately decided on Armbrust Plumbing and Heating Solutions for the repair. The day the repair was scheduled, the Plumbing Techician, Tom Heyman, showed up earlier (amazing) and explained what he was going to do. I was concerned that this was a two man job, but he was alone. It didn't take long for me to be set at easy that he was skilled, willing and able to work on his own. He ran into a small glitch during the repair, but faced the extra challenge calm and quickly got it under control. The repair was completed ahead of the time frame that I had anticipated. While the water supply affected many others in the building this was a big plus for us. I have worked in this building for 11 years and haven't been in a situation where I needed to have the water shut off to do a repair, so to work with someone as confident and knowledgeable as Tom Heyman was a relieve (Thanks). I would suggest Armbrust for your plumbing needs; we had a big job that required the whole system to be drained and the water to be shut off for hours, but the job was completed to my satisfaction! read more
