Not my favorite of the local L.A. Armstrong locations but not awful either. The parking situation is a little akward so make sure you park near the entrance if you are buy a lot of stuff. The workers there are fine, some of them are very nice, others I can tell, a little grumpy. The plants I have gotten from here are very healthy. They are good about precautions re covid which I appreciated considering some customers were making it difficult by wearing their masks incorrectly and complaining about the line. read more

I've had a good experience in the past but this year spent $200 on plants there. A small $30 planter with three herbs developed spider mites (it was all alone in the living room near no other plants) and two of three died in a week. I took it back for a swap or credit and they said they GUARANTEE NO PLANTS (just trees and shrubs) and didn't care their plant had failed so quickly. Also, all the tomatoes we bought there had aphids. We weren't even asking for them to do anything about that, but they said it wasn't their problem. They charge a premium to have "better" plants, but they are worse than Home Depot and Lowe's who both have a full return policy. I'll never believe they have better products worth the price again. I am very disappointed in their plants and lack of concern. read more

Place looks nice, but they had terrible service. The cashier acknowledged I was next in line but helped this lady who cut to the front of the line because he clearly didn't want to deal with her attitude. Also a lot of their items were kind of over priced. Home Depot has what they have to offer but at better prices. read more

Decent nursery if you don't want to shop for plants at one of the big box stores. They have many outdoor plants, a small selection of indoor ones and many varieties of roses. They also have a selection of trees, fountains and gardening supplies. This place has great curb appeal and is landscaped nicely. Unfortunately the plants for sale don't always look as great as the landscaping. It's easy to find drying, wilting or worse plants here. I was generous with my stars because the staff there has been helpful and friendly. But if it was based only on the plants it probably would be a two. read more

I went here to look for plants for my backyard over the weekend. the store was busy but all of the employees were very attentive and gave great customer service. the guy working stopped to talk to me about the hydrangeas I was interested in and gave some great tips about getting them to bloom in the color I wanted. there were a lot of cool plants so I'm looking forward to coming back on a day when they are less busy to really spend time looking around. read more

Great service! I'm attempting to turn my thumb green and ended up buying 7 house plants on a Sunday at this location. The staff was very personable and friendly, especially for an apartment dwelling newbie like me. They recommended soil and tools as well as poked some holes in plastic dishes so I could fit one plant in my pot with no drainage. AND they are dog friendly which is a big plus for me. They even let me repot some of my plants in the shade and offered my sister and I cold bottles of water on a hot Summer day. Like I said - very welcoming and friendly service. read more

Fellow Yelpers be hatin' on customer service here but I really like their service; Gerardo and Casey help me out all the time. I rotate between here and Homo Despot to amass my wicked succulent collection, because they both have different things at different times of the year. Some things yes are more expensive than at the Depot, but some are exactly the same price. You have to hunt, ladies. Yes it's true, some of the grasses do look kinda dead and depressed, but on the gardening side, not the grasses/trees side, everything looks pretty top notch and well-maintained. read more

When I moved to Los Feliz, I got a gardenia plant. The people here at Armstrong didn't sell it to me, but were able to identify the type of bug that decided to invade it six months later, and suggested a good spray to apply once every three weeks to kill it. Since then I've bought tomato seeds from them, pots, soil, and a fuchsia (which, I accidentally fried. Hopefully I can revive the poor thing). I've never had much of a problem with customer service, and their people seem quite knowledgeable about their plants. More so than Home Depot. read more

My son is learning all about plants and the life cycle of a seed and wanted to grow something at home, so I headed out to the garden center to pick up some stuff. What I got from the very helpful cashier was a whole bunch of information about how to grow the things I got. You don't get that kind of help from the hardware stores. So yeah. I'm a fan. read more

I came here with my daughter the other day--the service has apparently improved, because 3 people asked if I needed help while we were browsing. Also, they were teaching a class about starting drought resistant gardens! The selection here is excellent and the prices are good, especially for organic soils. Another excellent thing about the place is they feature beautiful plants from the Monrovia Nursery, which specializes in drought resistant plants. I'm a gardening fanatic, and when my prior nursery closed, I found myself at Armstrong. Wow. I've taken multiple classes here over the years and learned a lot. If I have a plant that is looking sick, I take a cutting of it and bring it here for advice. Their staff always seems to know exactly what is ailing my plant, plus the treatment. The quality of their plants is first rate. The only plant I've ever had die from Armstrong was a Fuchsia and I'm pretty darn sure it was my fault! And they carry things like worm castings, chicken manure, non toxic gopher repellant, etc that you can't find anywhere else. read more

I had a very important family event to plan that required several hundred flowers and the staff at Armstrong Garden Centers went out of their way to appease and provide top-notch customer service. Leticia (manager) and Taylor in particular were of tremendous help to me. They not only just meet my deadline for the flowers but the quality provided were perfection. I recently moved to the Glendale area and wanted to start a balcony garden at my apartment. I went to Armstrong to get tips and ask a bunch of questions. I was met by Janelle, who was so friendly. I told her I was a beginner gardener, and she basically gave me the Gardening 101 on the plants I was interested in growing. I couldn't get this type of conversation (especially without trying to sell me on anything) at another nearby shop. She answered all of my questions and helped me out to my car with my purchases. Holy mackrels this place is expensive! My husband and I have started building our green thumbs in the last year and we decided to stop on in and check this place out. Granted, it's pretty and the plants are well maintained but wow...just too pricey for me! I feel not enough people write good reviews for this place. Between my brother-in-law and myself we have bought about 20 trees from Armstrong and I personally bought 3500 sq feet of Sod at a very good price. The service is great, just ask for Casey. My wife and I will be visiting Casey and his staff to buy all the plants for our new home. Like other who have posted here, good luck finding someone to help you...it's like they're playing "zone defense"... but once you do find someone, they were pretty helpful. The staff members I have interacted with, though, were not very knowledgeable. I bought some grass seeds and had to ask questions about setting for spreader and they told me to call the seed company since they didn't know...shouldn't they know their products? I always found Armstrong to be a little pricey, but the quality of plants, and the knowledge and helpfulness of their staff usually makes up for it. Not at this location. Really bad customer service. It was hard to get help, and when I did, he seemed annoyed with my questions. Today their inventory didn't seem very healthy. And since they don't offer a guarantee on most of their plants, I didn't want to take a chance. I did buy a wind chime, but as I put it in my car, I realized he over-charged me. When I went back, they were more than rude about it. I told him that I have been a very good customer, and was very disappointed. He said he'd pass my comments on to the manager, but I doubt he did. Update: The folks at the Armstrong corporate office were helpful in trying to get the project back on track, but it's a shame that it took that level of escalation/intervention from me to arrive at a better outcome. It's now 5 months later, and there is a new regional manager for the stores who is friendly, and the staff seems to be trying to sort things out - but communication is still challenging. I'm on round 2. Most of the plants from the first install died. The summer here was impossibly hot and the plants did not have a chance to establish themselves fully before they withered in the heat. So - one of the benefits (and hence the upgrade to 2 stars) of the Armstrong install service is that if the plants die before the allotted warrant time - they will replace them. Be aware however - that they need to see the dead plants, and verify each item in person. They will not accept photos of the dead plants as evidence. My gardener pulled out a few of the dead plants before the Armstrong folks came to assess the situation, but luckily - the dead plants were still in the green waste bin so that I still had them as evidence. Also - many items in my order had to be substituted. Not sure why availability of the plants that were recommended to me by Armstrong for a drought tolerant yard are so difficult to replace - but nonetheless - they found acceptable substitutions. Overall - I'm sorry to say that the experience has been far more taxing and frustrating than is warranted. I had hoped to have a happy experience in designing and enjoying an updated "garden" - but it hasn't been that for me at all. I hope that new management will eventually help the situation - and that future customers have a better experience than I've had. read more

I called to get price quote on 5 gal asparagus fern and was told 11.95. When I went to buy 10 of them, the price was now 45.95. each. 11.95 was a fair price , as I had another quote from a different nursery for $10.50, but it would have entailed more driving. So I decided to pay a little more and not drive too far. Well $45.95 is not 11.95. They refused to honor their quote and so I left. I will gladly drive . Bad, Bad, Bad I have never given a neg. review before but this was not ok! read more

I went out of my may to go to this Armstrong location because they had a kaffir lime tree that I had been searching for for months. So, big props to them for that. But if I didn't know what I was looking for or had questions, I probably would have been frustrated with my experience. Usually at other Armstrong locations, there are employees in the various sections who help answer questions. I didn't see one person on the floor the whole time I was shopping. I also noticed that some of the plants looked wilty and not well pruned or cared for. The person who rang up my purchase was very friendly, but overall I probably won't go out of my way again to return to this location. read more

This place is lovely! They have a huge selection of plants and all of them look healthy and thriving. I have two orchids that were gifts and had no idea what to do with them. I showed the pictures on my phone to the lady and was literally like, "Um, help?" She was super patient with answering all my questions (I had a lot) and helping me get the food I needed for them. I love armstrong. But this day I went in to get guidance on a gnat problem that is infesting my office - ugh. The guy who helped me gave me advice and sounded knowledgable; sand (they supposedly wouldn't dig through, wrong) and a spray (that didn't work). Typically my experiences have been positive. Male manager of this store is so rude and arrogant I won't bother shopping here anymore. The female manager is sweet and helpful. Armstrong has high prices so you would think their customer service would be stellar but it's not it's horrible and makes this location a depressing place to shop even amongst all of the colorful flowers etc. If you want to be talked down to and treated like an idiot feel free to shop at this location. I'm even part of their loyal customers program but that still doesn't mean anything to the arrogant male manager of this Armstrong garden center on San Fernando Road in Glendale. You know, there are plenty of Home Improvement "like" mega stores that have garden sections - but if you have a serious "green thumb" and need the best selection of equipment, soil, seeds, etc... then this place is for you. I am not a crazy amped up garden person - but I can rarely walk our of here without a few beautiful plants or a garden "hoe" or two... It is worth a trip. read more
