My wife and I decided to visit Aroma for a good lunch. I was happy for her to try it, as I've enjoyed it twice, previously. The restaurant was not as clean as my last visit and no one greeted us at the host/hostess station. We were halfway to a table when she arrived and seated us. Our server was friendly, but EVERY, SINGLE TIME she left our table, she was gone for 15-20 minutes. Asked for a few minutes to look over the menu - gone 15 minutes. Want a refill - gone 15-20 minutes. Another refill, 15-20. This went on throughout our entire time. If the restaurant had been busy/crowded, I would understand. There were 6 patrons, including ourselves, in the restaurant. They were not busy. I watched our server disappear into the back again for 20 more minutes before bringing the check. She took my card and a few other patrons' cards for payment. We waited at least 20 minutes as our server and 3 other staff looked at the register in confusion. Our server returned and told me the card didn't work. She stated she tried it 3 times. Although I knew the card was good, I was in shock she tried it 3 times. My wife gave her her card, and 10 mins later, she came back. She told us the machine had glitches, and they reset the machine. It did not work. The manager (?), stopped by with a paper and pen, and wanted us to write our name and phone number so we could stop back in and pay. Our server wasted a total of a couple of hours because of her LONG disappearances, tried using our card to pay multiple times, just to find out they had a glitch and still expected payment? The entire experience soured my wife and I on returning to Aroma. We paid the over $60.00 bill, but should have been compensated for the loss of time, waiting on the server. It ruined our daytime plans. All in all, even with the food being good, (We both had the Dolsot Bibimbap with shrimp), Aroma itself has gone downhill. They are even charging for small cups of sauce now. Please do NOT make the same mistake we did by coming here. Go somewhere else where they're considerate of your time. read more

Nothing has changed in the 9 years since my last visit. This is still low quality sushi and lazy service. While the service wasn't as horrible this time - the sushi wasn't worth finishing or boxing up. We wasted more than we ate. This time we ordered the Lettuce Wrap appetizer. It tasted awful. Like burnt broccoli and sesame oil. We tried to eat it but it was so bad we left the entire appetizer and it's a lot of food. When I was first introduced to Aroma, I was struck by the atmosphere. Its a bit dark inside with wear and tear on the booths and menus. But I had been recommended by a friend and the food did not disappoint. The service was a little bit slow, but our waiter was friendly and the food pricing was very reasonable. Definitely the best value sushi in the area. And they don't compromise on the taste. My only complaint was I tried some of my friends fried rolls, which tasted great, but weren't warm. I have been here a few times with friends for sushi. I love sushi and anytime I can get it I won't pass it up. This place is usually pretty busy, sometimes there is a wait but it's next to the mall entrance so you can walk around the mall while you wait. The service is always good, very nice and fast. Had a perfectly fine sushi experience at Aroma. One thing, if the sushi is always half price, isn't that just the normal price? I know Aroma isn't the only place that does this, but it still irks me. It's located outside Kenwood town centre which means it can be quite busy especially near holiday season when people are out shopping. They have an extensive list of special rolls to try and it's HALF PRICED- even the sashimi and nigiri too. My recommendation is the Cincinnati roll as there's mango inside(which is not often seen in many sushi restaurants). As an unagi(eel) lover, I'm sad that they do not have much eel special rolls. The only two is the double dragon and dragon roll. Thus, I have to get some unagi nigiri which is quite expensive. It's a busy night as usual but I did not have to wait long for the sushi. In 2022 we had an unfortunate experience with our favorite local restaurant Aroma. In the last year we have given them a re-look and we are so pleased with the changes. First it's clear that ordering takeout should be done thru their phones and not thru a service. Second they've been updating the interior and it looks great. The sushi is great, the prices reasonable and we adore the servers. The manger is also around a lot. The food is great and well presented. Theres outdoor seating. I went with two friends for lunch on a Sunday - it wasn't busy and they had the bengals game on. It appeared there were some regulars there watching the game and enjoying some noms. We each ordered a bunch of rolls and shared. Sushi is half priced every day when you eat in. The highlight was the Hawaiian Roll and the Play Girl. I also ordered the Dragon Roll and added cream cheese which was a good call. I love that you can add cream cheese to any roll for $1! Ordering is a breeze but please do make sure you read the description and provide all details needed to ensure order accuracy. The rolls came out on two giant plates - probably more sanitary than the giant wooden boats or bridges used elsewhere but I was still a little irrationally sad. You cannot enter through the mall which, to me, is a little weird... if you're going just for Aroma, your best bet is to park on the side of the mall across from Trio (easy in, easy out, short walk). I was also disappointed by humanity and that they needed to post disclaimers/notices and this distracted me at the table... the signage stated that they offered no refunds or exchanges for misordered rolls and a reminder to please eat and leave if there is a line of people waiting for a table... kudos to Aroma for at least not using comic sans. Service was fast and friendly but we weren't offered refills on drinks and we had to ask for a third set of chopsticks and a soy sauce bowl (we were originally given only 2 for 3 people). read more

We've actually had the luck to get the same server twice and they always did a phenomenal job. I personally enjoy how the booths are super tall and make it feel like you're in your own little world but if you're not fond of that, maybe this isn't the place to go. I will say that one time we went and there was a wait and they didn't have much seating for everyone bc they had 4-5 chairs; and there isn't much room to stand off out of the way bc of that, so that was slightly uncomfortable haha but other than that I really do enjoy this place and it's right by the Kenwood Mall! Absolutely one of my favorite places to go. The wait staff is always on point, you never have to wait long, if at all and the food is great. They have half-price sushi for dine-in (and carry-out during the quarantine). You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but I'll share some of my favorites. For an appetizer, the guacamole is some of the best I've had. I know that sounds crazy, but I've gone with other people and they agreed. The Gyoza and Lettuce Wrap are also very good. All of the Sushi is good. I won't pretend the Sashimi is on par with the really high-end places, but it is good and in my opinion, better than the other similar type spots. Additionally, they'll modify any roll to your request. We always have fresh jalapeno added to a couple of the rolls. If you're not into Sushi and looking for recommendations, I would go with the Chicken Fried Rice and/or the Thai Sweet & Spicy Chicken (it's basically orange chicken, but very good). One area of caution, if you dine-in, avoid the booths. In most of the booths, you'll feel the person behind you moving around and it feels a bit like you're getting boxed out while you eat. It's not intentional and they can feel you moving around too. It can get weird. I give Aroma 5 stars for the following reasons. Although it was super busy, the portion sizes were huge food was delicious, employees really wanted to make sure you understood the menu and were available to answer any questions (as they have a sign no refunds at every table) and I absolutely loved the way the waiting list was structured. So we walked around the mall (as there were 7 parties ahead of us) then when it got down to 3 ahead of us, we made our way back to the restaurant and stayed close so we'd be here when they called us. It allowed leftovers for the next day- my only down fall was we ordered number 7 spice (out of 10) and the spiciness was perfect BUT it overpowered the flavors of the dish instead of making them more vibrant. So maybe just a tip to the chef's those that order a higher spice level adjust the other seasoning so the taste of pepper isn't overpowering the dish. Other than that, we will definitely be back!
