We got takeout and returned to our campsite to eat. The food was good and fresh. It was also very hot, which made traveling with it just fine. The leftovers were as good the next day. This place sounds fantastic on paper. In reality, not so hot. The place was in complete disarray upon arrival and of course we had to wait another 25 minutes for our food. The food took over 50 minutes and we called way ahead. We got the food home, opened it up and we found two shrimp, one piece of calamari, three pieces of beef and three pieces of dried out chicken in our combination plate. We saw some girl arrive from the back entrance with some chicken as we were picking up our food. She dropped off the chicken, grabbed a cool glass of iced tea and quickly departed. We ordered three other combinations including duck, pad Thai chicken and chicken mango shrimp curry. All of these had very little meat and the mango shrimp curry had three shrimp and they were small and not very tasty at all. I'm not sure what's going on at this place, but they are riding on thin ice. If their business is derived from tourists, it's only a matter of time before this place goes adios. read more

After spending over 10 years in what I consider the home of amazing Thai delights (Seattle, WA) I believe that my standards run a little high. I've visited many places in San Diego that people rave about and feel that they are woefully overrated and overpriced. Little Aroma Thai, located in the charming squalor of Imperial Beach isn't going to be the place that changes my opinion but it's decent, well-priced and clean. My spicy basil veggie dish with mock chicken was well-seasoned and fresh and served with rice, a tiny cup of interesting broth, and a wee spring roll for a measly $6.95. A Thai coffee for $2 and I had a nice lunch well outside the confines of any box for around $12. The reason I couldn't give this nugget more stars was the Pad Thai. TOO SWEET. Me no likey, please stop making Pad Thai a dessert! Please? On a completely unrelated and unimportant note the ladies room is a delight. A quaint restaurant across from the beach. I can usually tell if I will like a Thai place based on their pad thai dish. This place has a good-tasting pad thai. I also like their Som Tom (spicy green papaya salad). It is so fresh and the sauce is so flavorful. I had leftovers and the Som Tom was even better the next day when the ingredients had time to mingle overnight. The Tiger Cry Steak comes to the table on a sizzling platter and it was delicious with the spicy sauce on the side as well as veggies and pineapple. They have many, many dishes on their menu. Terrible service! I found the food amazing so I'm leaving five stars. Yelp should divide food quality from service quality. My friend wanted to go here, I looked it up on Yelp and said "no way" as it has 3 1/2 stars. There was a 4 1/2 star place two blocks away. My friend assured me they had good food, but had never been to the 4 1/2 star place. If I realized the service was as bad as it was, I would have just ordered takeout and been on my way, happy and eating takeout on the pier. Instead, on a Friday night after a concert at the pier, we walked in at 8:15. The lady I saw upon entering rolled her eyes and went in back towards the kitchen. Fine, they must be closed, even though it says they're open till 9:00. I have worked in restaurants for years and know how much it sucks on a slow night when a big party comes in just before closing. I asked "are you still serving dinner? There are six of us" and she looked irritated and waved at a table we could sit at then tossed some menus down. One minute later she came over and asked if we were ready to order? OK, I get it, you don't want to be there, everyone wants to go home, that's why I asked if you were still serving. We ordered drinks and a couple appetizers. She came back promptly and asked for our order telling us the kitchen was closing soon...at 8:20 on a Friday night. Food came, it was incredibly good. Bravo to the chef, I loved everything. The apps, the curry, the noodles, it was all really delicious. Five minutes later she drops the check as I'm asking for some extra rice because the proportions of rice to curry sauce was not on point. She grabbed the check saying she would need to charge more for the rice. I told her to forget it, paid the bill and let her know how unwelcome she made us all feel. I'll never go back, but the food was really good so I recommend it for takeout. Oh and the Sake was spoiled and disgusting, but who orders Sake at a Thai place? That was my bad. We come to Coronado about once a year, for a long weekend. It's become tradition to get takeout from Aroma Thai each time. Their curries are great! My favorite is the red curry with duck. The duck is tender and flavorful, and the curry is rich and creamy. The veggies are perfectly cooked. I don't like it when the veggies are undercooked and super crunchy. If I could give negative stars I would. This was the worst experience for me and my boyfriend. We arrived there in the late afternoon, waited to be seated for about 10 min & waited another 10 min to get menus. Let's keep in mind that only 2 other couples were in the restaurant and the server was too busy laughing and talking with the cooks. My bf wanted to leave at this point, the server was rude and careless. We get our food and halfway through the meal WE FIND A SMALL ROCK in my bfs food. at this point my bfs upset and honestly who could blame him. The server took the rock and said it wasn't a rock then he came back, admitted it was a rock and apologized then offered to make another one. At this point my bf didn't want anything else from here and I was afraid I might of had a rock in my food as well. The server asked us to pay for my meal and we thought that was a bit unprofessional. if it was any other restaurant with good service they would have given us the meal and drinks on the house. Instead, my bf had to convince the server that it would only be fair that he'd pay for the drinks. We paid for the drinks and left. I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone, and we should have followed our first mind and went to a restaurant where there was more people around. read more

Great place! While it was my first experience, I'm no stranger to Thai food establishments in San Diego. The decor/facility was spotless and well done. Service was professional, courteous and attentive. The food was top notch and well priced for today's economy. Parking is limited when the crowds arrive. I really liked it, but I like my Thai curry on the spicy side. My wife thought the Panang was a little hot, considering Panang is supposed to be on the mild end of the spectrum for Thai curries. I just order wonton soup through Aroma Thai's website, walked to pick it up, and came home to find that all the cabbage is rotten and there was a worm in my soup. I called to tell them my issue and to get a refund and was rudely told that my problem is with door dash not Aroma Thai. I don't have a door dash account but apparently when you order through their website, it is with door dash. My issue was not with door dash and with Aroma Thai. I do not recommend eating here. We came here since it was a short walk from our hotel across the street. We arrived around 5:30pm for an early dinner and were seated right away since it was fairly empty. Service was fine, not anything special to write about. The Thai iced tea was amazing and came in large glasses. It was one of the best I've ever had. I ordered the chicken pad Thai and the husband ordered the crying tiger beef. Both dishes were amazing. I will say that the chicken pad Thai was probably the best I've ever had...it was perfect. Something about the noodles. If we were locals, we'd definitely come here often. It's a must try. read more

I.B and Thai cusine don't seem to go togther, but there is a place folks! Only Thai restaurant on Seacoast Dr. which is mainly populated with pizza, bar/grill food and Mexican food joints. Been there about three times and tried their tom kha gah soup (tasty, chicken a little overcooked), yellow curry (good), thai chicken salad (plain, not worth it), pad thai noodles (good), mango sticky rice (yum, very craveable). I work in Imperial Beach and order the fresh spring rolls (vegetarian, with tofu) almost every single day -- sometimes TWO orders! The menu lists the spring rolls as stuffed with tofu, carrot, and wrapped in rice wrapper. There is also lettuce and vermicelli noodles, and *occasionally* they throw mint leaves in there -- YUM! Anyone can make spring rolls, but Aroma Thai takes the cake for their AMAZING "aroma sauce." I wish I knew what was in it, then I wouldn't spend so much money! The staff are really nice, their Thai Tea is delicious (but a little overpriced), and most of all, I love that I can call in my order and pick it up within 10-15 minutes. read more

Came here with one of my best friends, who swore up and down this was the best Thai food in southern California. Cute little restaurant with its own private lot. He ordered the red panang duck curry with rice level 5 spiciness. I ordered the spicy beef noodles level 7. He got his food first and I got my food close to 10 to 15 minutes after he had received his food. I stole pretty much all the pieces of eggplant out of his curry because I was starving. It was pretty tasty. I was disappointed when I got my spicy beef noodles which were supposed to be a level 7. My best friends curry [supposedly a level 5] ended up being spicier than my noodles. We also ordered the fried calamari. Pretty delicious and I liked the fact that they were still hot when they were served to us. Pros: *water service. Your water cup was always full. *Parking lot. You know it's a mess to find parking in IB Cons: *timing on the food. I feel like your table's food Should come out relatively at the same time. Not 10 to 15 minutes later. *spiciness of the food. My level 7 noodles should have been way spicier than the level 5 curry. Would I come back? Sure. This food here is NOT worth the bad service. This was our second time coming and we were excited because the first time we came it was decent! But I guess today the same server we had last time was in a bad mood and took it out on us. She sat us at a table in the sun so we nicely asked for the table next to us to get cleaned off so we could sit there. That was it for her. We did not see her again for another 10 mins and she comes back asking if we're "ready to order food" Being a server myself, I know she should've AT LEAST brought us out some water first or asked us for drinks but she wanted to talk to us as little as possible. She took our orders and we never saw her again, until she dropped off the check. We had to flag everyone down for service. It's the worst feeling being hungry and going to a place, gettin treated like this shit, and not even being able to enjoy your food because the EMPLOYEES are making you uncomfortable. What a waste of money, we just paid to get treated that way. And for the food, as I said, it's not worth it there's so many better places in San Diego I'd rather drive to Hillcrest and enjoy they're food & service than to get mediocre Thai and rude service. Over the years, every time I'm in IB, I make it a point to stop here. Have always loved the fast and friendly service and of course the food! HOWEVER, this last time I was there I cannot explain my disappointment. I ordered a steak salad to go. It took forever, despite being midday and the restaurant was not crowded. The hostess/server who took my order was not friendly, but I can overlook that. It wasn't until I was sitting at a park trying to eat my salad that I realized there were no utensils or napkins included. What's worse, it was a sorry excuse for a salad! The lettuce was a small section cut straight from the head, no leaves separated, looked like crap. There was one big chunk of cucumber and carrot. Then the steak was one big, tough piece. Come on, it's a salad. Cut the few ingredients that are in it! I was so frustrated the whole time I was gnawing away at the food with my bare hands. Aroma Thai is across the street from the ocean and right next door to the condo we were staying in for vacation, the delicious smells enticed us to check out this place for dinner. It was small, casual, and busy, but we were seated quickly. The service was decent, not overly friendly, but answered our questions and checked on us at least once. Reasonable prices and serving sizes, and a good amount of food choices. With our family of 6, we ordered about 5 different plates/items and all shared. It was plenty of food with a tiny bit of leftovers. We tried pad thai, different curries, fried rice, a shrimp dish, a duck dish and Thai tea... everything was good. The only downside was they were out of fried ice cream both nights, and my foster son really wanted to try it. I'm not a huge Thai fan (wanted to try other places while visiting Imperial Beach), but the hubby and young adult kids wanted to come back a few nights later, so we ate here twice on our 4-day vacation. The location is great! You can walk down to the pier after dinner or catch the sunset and walk on the beach. We would definitely eat here on our next stay in Imperial Beach. read more

Really good Thai restaurant, they were very busy the day we went and they manage to serve us really quick with great attitude and attention. The food portions are huge! Had the pad see eww which is one of my favorite thai plates and they nailed it. It was very tasty and you can surely taste all the spices, the garlic and sauces were not overpowering. Also, had the tiger steak which was cook to perfection on a hot plate with an amazing peanut sauce that was to die for.
