Really good Thai restaurant, they were very busy the day we went and they manage to serve us really quick with great attitude and attention. The food portions are huge! Had the pad see eww which is one of my favorite thai plates and they nailed it. It was very tasty and you can surely taste all the spices, the garlic and sauces were not overpowering. Also, had the tiger steak which was cook to perfection on a hot plate with an amazing peanut sauce that was to die for. Can't believe I haven't reviewed this place!!! This has been a staple since moving to ib. I hate that I never tried before living down here as it is worth a trip. Food is great and service is on point. If you ask for spicy, they can deliver. Great sauces on the side and the I usually get the yellow curry. Anytime I have sampled around the menu I have been impressed but keep going back to the wontons and curry. They can get busy but are always moving fast. read more

BEST yellow curry ever. Perfectly spiced and very fresh. I laughed a little when the server asked me, "On a scale of 1 to 10, how do you like your curry?" I answered three, and they totally nailed it. The service was a little distant, but very accommodating upon any special requests. The satay was perfect, fresh and delicious. The sticky rice was a little hard and dry. The white rice was fluffy and amazing. The chow mein noodles were great. Flat noodles were well seasoned, if a bit too salty. It is sad how bad this place has gotten. My crab angels was served cold and when we requested a new order, the order came out even colder. It wouldn't have been a problem if our waitress didn't lie and say it's suppose to be cold. Really? Fried food is suppose to be cold? Please. My water was never refilled unless requested and with four people in the back and only one cook, one would think they would be more attentive. Did I mention we are the only guest here. I am pescatarian and thai people cook many great seafood dishes and there was an amazing seafood soup with a flavour so good I had never tried before and the first times I bought it, it was great but the next time it tasted weird and I called them and they said they used chicken broth that day and will keep using it, If i pay for seafood soup which is quite expensive they should be using the proper ingredients and they should state in their menu or tell me when I called that they changed the ingredients. read more

I've read so many reviews about this place before trying it out. The food was ok, the rice tasted like they had used the cooking d steam rice from the night before. It's was super soggy. The SERVICE was horrible, the blonde hair girl filled everyone else's glass of water til it was a full glass of ice but walked right past my husband and I seeing our glasses was out of water and ice. I waited patiently for her to fill it and she stilL came around and cleaned up all the dirty tables by our table but never filled our water. .So my husband asked her to fill it. The Thai tea was watered down. If your Asian she won't give you good service she picks and chooses who to give amazing service to. This has been our go to Thai place for many years. Last night we ordered Green curry and red curry entrees. As soon as we took the lids off, we knew something was wrong. Both of the entrees were thin and watery looking with what appeared to be a thin oil slick on top. It appeared that they did not use any coconut milk. It had a bitter, bad taste. I called the restaurant to inquire. She said that they changed their recipes a few weeks ago. I could not believe it! That would be suicide. She said that she would have the manager call me, but I have not received a call. Too bad, I will never go back there again, Beware. read more

Having lived a block away for several years, we became semi-regulars here. Overall, food is great, although I've noticed slight changes in taste/preparation depending on the day. There have been more than one occasion where the food was not to our order (especially for take-outs). Example-- white rice when brown was requested; mild when medium was requested. This is where I had my first bite of Thai food and fell in love with it. Unfortunately, this establishment is no longer the star it used to be. I went in to order my usual Chicken Pad Thai. As my partner and I bit into the noodles, our mouths were filled with a weird gritty texture. The table next to us complained about the same thing... unfortunately our food had SAND in it, YES SAND. We sent the plate back as it was inedible. Our waiter had the audacity to charge us for the plate of sand when we received our check. Not only has the food gone downhill, but service as well! When I opened it look like there's 0 love put in it.. no spiciness at all, the yucky sweet flavor is overwhelming, about TWO piecies of chicken and for some reason FOUR pieces of TOFU in there (i think.. why?) Plenty of seats but an overworked staff, so be patient! Staff is kind & thoughtful about allergies. Food is delish! We had Thai ice teas, rad na, fresh rolls and Tom Kha soup. Fantastic flavors!They can accommodate large groups too. If you want takeout, call it in because there will be a wait. Had good food here before, but this was my experience the other night...there was no service, literally. While we were waiting for our food to go, another table sat down and waited for service. After awhile I went up to the counter to let the staff know they had new customers and the guy at the counter looked up and then told me the waiter was on a break! I was there earlier with my husband and son, flavor is good, but there is lack of attention. I asked for my plate with tofu, and it was served with meat, I asked the server if I had asked for chicken or tofu, she said chicken, I ate the whole thing, when we asked for the ticket my plate said PK, I asked her once again what my plate had and she said pork. Well, the news is that I am allergic to pork, I asked for tofu, she got it wrong, no big deal I can eat the chicken but never pork. Good that I had my allergy pills with me and took one right away, but since I am pregnant I prefer not to take any medication if I can avoid it, but still keep them in by bag for any emergencies. Still I am very upset about the whole situation, I asked and she lied. We weren't charge for my plate and my husband still left the tip for the whole amount but this is not acceptable. Doubt that we return to this place, this could be a deadly mistake for some people, hopefully after my allergy pill I get minor symptoms. Absolutely the best Thai food in IB...come to think of it, "They are the only Thai Food in IB." In my opinion, this place is a HIT and MISS (notice, I didn't say "OR".) HIT: The Mango Curry with Chicken and Shrimp. This dish had that Sweet/Salty/Spicy flavor going on and was the HIT on our table. The flavors worked well and we couldn't get enough of it. MISS: The Mock Duck with noodles. The vegetables were fresh, the Mock Duck was seasoned right, but the noodles were a little on the greasy side. HIT: The Wonton Cream Cheese with Shrimp and Imitation Crab. This little appetizer was the fun to eat and the very tasty. There was actually a little discussion on our table as to who was gonna get the last piece...unfortunately, it wasn't me! MISS: The Coconut Shrimp Appetizer. I've had this dish many a times at other establishments, and was kind of disappointed at the dish we were served. Nothing personal, cause I'm sure they made it fresh, but the Coconut Shrimp looked and tasted like it was 'Store Bought.' This was our 'least favorite' dish on our table. Okay, having traveled internationally a great deal for work, I am somewhat of an international cuisine snob since I've had most cuisine's in the native land (most don't appeal to American taste :-&)... That being said, I really try to assess these joints based on the local spin. I have lived in South San Diego for over a decade and can't be more thrilled ANY Thai restaurant would open down here but even better one is in IB! Based on their location, I'm giving them another star simply for making my all-time favorite cuisine available sans a 15 mile drive. Their staff is extremely friendly, accommodating and attentive. I have specific favorites off their menu and tend to not vary outside a restaurant's specialties too far. The Thai Drunken Noodles are absolutely SCREAMIN' and served with plenty of grilled white meat chicken & fresh basil. I always ask for my Thai food "Thai hot" (translating to a 8 or 9 on a 10 scale), and unlike most places, they DO understand what this means. Very nice. The curried rice and pretty much anything with their green curry is outstanding. Their Vietnamese spring rolls are excellent! They are about 40% more than I pay anywhere else for my Thai food but given the elimination of a 15+ mile drive, it's worth it. Overall, they're not Thai House (Kearney Mesa), who used to and whose family still run a restaurant in Pattaya but they are the best thing south of the 54 thus far and I will be back. read more

It's time to review this place. I've been here countless times... with friends and family. I love this place. Thank goodness to being an IB local. They have great service (although it tends to be slow sometimes)... a lot of them likes smiling a lot, and it does give you great vibes. The ambiance is great here in Aroma Thai, by the beach... what more could you ask for? I get only one thing here... PAD THAI. Combination Pad Thai. You might get confused the first time you go here, but basically you pick the meat/protein/vegetables you want (that's where the price is based on) and then you pick how you want it cooked (type of dish). Combination Pad Thai is all of their meats (chicken, pork, beef, shrimp and calamari) cooked with stir fried fresh rice noodles with bean sprout, tofu, egg, and ground peanut. MMM. Just typing those words makes me salivate. My sister loves their pineapple fried rice. Friends like their yellow curry. They give okay amount of serving, sometimes it's not consistent... I go there one time and I get a lot of noodles, sometimes, it's like 3/4ths of what I got the last time. I suggest going M-F lunch time when they have their lunch special, basically you can pick from the same menu, for lower cost and you also get their tamarind-based soup, small piece of fried wonton, and a veggie roll. All of them are good, so I try to go during their lunch special hours--the serving for the main dish is usually the same. Let me reiterate this... I love their Pad Thai. Try it. (You might not like it if you have a totally different palette, but all of the people I've brought there liked it) ;) I've never really been to other Thai places... but I don't think I can exchange this place for another. I'm just happy to go to this place. Hope you like it. Pricing? Well, it's a bit on the steep side, but it's okay. On one hand I'm surprised this place hasn't been reviewed yet, but on the other it makes sense. This great Thai restaurant is located right on the beach, and yet every time I've been there it's mostly deserted. They were closed for a while for redecoration and just recently reopened. I'm not really sure if Southern Country Kitchen decor screams Thai food, but whatever makes them happy, I guess.... Either way, definitely check this place out if you're in the south bay/Coronado area and want some good Thai food. read more

I've been here before, the Thai dishes aren't horrible and I've liked what I had before but the service isn't good, my rice was undercooked and hard... That to me.. Is like.. Eating fish bones in your fish and then ruining your entire meal.. I kindly mentioned it to our server, asked if they had fresher rice and they took my bowl without saying anything and brought me back brown rice.... Um. Thanks but.. That's not what I wanted. All in all I left and was really unhappy ;( what a huge disappointment I was truly craving some yellow curry I've had way better. This was my first Taste of Real Thai Food, where I'm from Thai food is hard to find, most places just mix it with Chinese and Japanese food, but this was the real deal. I got the spicy noodles, I asked if they could minimize the spice, the waitress said they could make it mild, I thought great! I would hate to see what the full spice was because I took one bite and it was like I got punched in the stomach, I kept eating until about half way through my meal I had to stop, it was too overwhelming. So if you like spicy food like I do, but are a stranger to thai spices avoid the dishes with the pepper next to it. Despite the overwhelming heat, the flavor was still really good, I just wish I could have finished it. My suggestion would be to order a thai iced tea because it is so overly sweet from the sugar and milk that it will at least help a little with the overbearing spiciness. A few other minor criticisms that prevented this from being a 4 or even 5 star rating are that they garnish carrot in all their dishes, even the ones who have no mention of carrot at all in them. This needs to be listed in case someone has an allergy, how are we supposed to know what's in a dish if you aren't going to list all the ingredients? Picking carrot out of my food was tedious and got on my nerves. Also, the service was very slow, confusing and they were not very nice. In fact they seemed pretty rude. I'd still come back for the food without a doubt but like I said some changes could be made if they want two more stars. read more

This is so close to home and they have the best coconut soup I have ever had. I always find myself wishing their service were better and more welcoming so that I were more comfortable bringing friends here. Their helpings are sorta skimpy, but their prices aren't bad. Still I always leave hungry no matter how much I spend. When other restaurants serve 6 or 8 pieces, they will serve less. I don't know why. It is overall pretty good. I've never been a fan of 'Chicken Pad Thai' because every place I've tried this dish at has been, well... not so great. Until I decided to give the dish another shot here at Aroma Thai and it was amazing! Along with their milk thai tea. I definitely recommend this place to for lunch or dinner.
