A friend told me about this place so I decided to give it a shot. We came from Raleigh so we went to the Bach first. On the way back Aromas del Peru was 15-20 mins away. As a native peruvian I have to say that the food was good, not amazing that's why I am not giving it 5 stars. Arroz chaufa was good, ceviche was good, Lino Saltado was ok, a bit salty, papa a la huancaina was ok, it could have had a bit more flavor. They had passion fruit juice which was very good. Pricing was ok. Service was good and people where nice. If I am in the area I would try it again, selection is limited though. read more

This was my first time actually eating inside the restaurant (I've ordered to-go before- always tasty!). A girlfriend and I visited for lunch. I was so pleased to find that Aromas has a great lunch special menu, so we both ordered off of that. I chose the 1/4 chicken with 3 sides special (yuca, plantains, and rice), and my friend chose the fried rice special with soup. The soup came out quickly and was very flavorful (I will definitely be getting my own next time!). Our main meals were both very generously portioned- neither of us were even remotely hungry to try any of the delicious desserts in the dessert case. 8/27/23 My husband and I came here for lunch before we left town. I've been craving ceviche and this place has it. We ordered ceviche kitchen sink as medium heat and it was so delicious! A lot of flavor and not too spicy. I always order a side of white rice with ceviche because the sauce it comes in taste so good, you'd want to soak it up on your rice. We also got the anticuchos : veal hearts and those were so tender and tasty. We enjoy organ meats because of all the nutrients. This was our first time having veal hearts and they're so delicious, highly recommend you to try it here. We tried their unique drinks: guanabana and the maracuya glass, both were delicious. Lastly, we ordered 1/2 pollo solo: roasted chicken. We tried a few bites and it was so delicious, but we were full from all the other options. QUE RICO!!! We were visiting the area for the BMW dealership and looking for a place to eat lunch we were so excited to see a Peruvian restaurant. The restaurant is located towards the back of the shopping center with plenty of parking. When you enter the restaurant there is a bakery and shelves of authentic Peruvian items to the left and the seating area to the right. We sat in a booth and it was very spacious and of course beautifully decorated with Peruvian art and decor. We started with the Maracuya (passion fruit) pitcher and Calamari. The Calamari was fried to perfection alongside yuca frita y salsa criolla (purple onion salad). We decided to order a whole chicken with three sides and this was plenty of food for my husband, son and I. My toddler got the lunch special cheeseburger with fries which was cooked just right! This place is neither upscale nor a hole in the wall, but it can definitely be described as "authentic." What I found exciting was that they have diet Inca Cola, which is not commonly found in many restaurants or supermarkets, especially the diet version. That alone is worth an extra star in my book. We started with the shrimp anticuchos appetizer, which was good, but not something I would order again. There's just no replacement for beef heart anticuchos, but unfortunately, my husband doesn't eat that. Paul ordered the shrimp and fish ceviche and absolutely loved it. As for me, I had the Lomo Saltado, and it had that special flavor that a GREAT lomo should have. Not all restaurants can achieve that, but this one definitely did. Having never had Peruvian food before, but loving Latinx cooking, I had to try Aromas of Peru as soon as I learned about this hidden gem! I got the rotisserie chicken with both of my sides being friend plantains (you can never have too many!) The chicken was well-seasoned and cooked to perfection. The plantains were hot, fresh, and overall delicious! The atmosphere of this restaurant is very nice. I went for an earlier dinner, so it wasn't very busy at the time. This restaurant was so welcoming and Carlos, our server was top notch! I had never been here and he explained their menu and was so enthusiastic! He gave me samples of their juices. Very sweet and nice to taste test. We ordered the Yucca cheese bites to start - pretty tasty. Then we got the 1/2 rotisserie chicken with 2 sides. Since yucca is unusual we got the fried yucca and tostones. Both were similar to potato but different and tasty. The chicken was so juicy and flavorful. I could have had a whole one. But we saved room for dessert and got the Mil Hojas - Peruvian milk caramel in pasty - it was a perfect ending to an authentic meal. I'll be back to try more Peruvian food soon! read more

This is an update to my previous review. Today (14 July 2021) my friend DZ and I went here for lunch (my second visit, her first). I ordered the Kitchen Sink Ceviche, a mix of fish and seafood. Our server made sure she knew what I was ordering by telling me it's served cold. Yes, I know. I make Ceviche at home. OMG!! One of the best meals I've had in a long time! So beautifully presented: Shrimp, calamari, fish (mahi-mahi), scallops, and thinly sliced onions in a lime-flavored sauce. The raw fish and seafood gets "cooked" from the acid of the lime juice. I had mine prepared with a medium heat, just perfect for me. This was $16.99 and I fell well worth the price. Alongside were two small bowls with a chunk of sweet potato, corn, and fried corn; and thinly sliced fried banana chips. I was in heaven enjoying each bite of the food. What wonderful flavors. I'm ready to go back and order this again! My friend ordered the "Jumping Chicken" which she loved. It was strips of chicken in a wine and tomato sauce. It was served with rice and fries. I suggested to her the next time she request the beans instead of the fries. I had a taste of her food - something I would definitely order. We were very excited to try this place so we came in for dinner on a Friday. They were pretty busy but the place is very small so it can look crowded even if it's not. The staff was nice and welcoming and we were seated right away. We tried the "Kitchen Sink" ceviche, the deluxe seafood platter (their version of a paella), and a chicken dish. It was all pretty good and full of delicious flavor. We ended up paying almost $100 including gratuity which we thought was outrageous considering all we had was three dishes (one appetizer and two entrees), and no drinks. For $26 (as of Nov 2021) you can get a whole chicken with three sides of your choice and sauces. We ordered fried plantains, fried yucca, and beans and they did not disappoint. All the sauces packed so much flavor, the green sauce and yellow (mustardy) sauce packed a punch but don't sleep on the orange sauce, which was our favorite of the three! Raise your hand if you love AUTHENTIC food, prepared and served by people who have actually lived in the country of the featured cuisine? Raise your other hand if you appreciate reasonable prices and pleasant service. I thought so. (Btw, you look silly so you can put arms down now.) I had the ceviche, because let's face it. Why not? And we all know that if fish isn't super fresh it's not easy to mask it in a ceviche dish. No worries about that at Aromas my friend. Never have I enjoyed such fresh, well prepared ceviche ANYWHERE, and that dish alone will lure me back time and time again. We were with two other couples, and even though I was pretty busy scarfing down my dinner, I managed to sneak a bite of my husband's plaintain, which was perfectly sweet and soft, just the way we like them. He ordered a steak dish with a fried egg on top that came with rice AND fries. A little weird and definitely carb overload but not a deal breaker. Another friend had trout which he said was excellent, another empanadas and another stuffed avocado. Everything was SO GOOD! I'm a little envious of the students at UNCW because they're so close to this place. I'd be happy to place an air mattress in their kitchen and live there if they would let me. I was craving some clean seafood tonight but also wanted to find a place that I knew my wife and son would eat at. After short deliberation and 10 months since I last visited, Aromas of Peru it was gonna be. FOOD: "Kitchen Sink" Ceviche, Miraflores Burger and a whole, Rotisserie Chicken. Starting with the Rotisserie Chicken...it's the best in Wilmington and is in a league all on it's own. AoP has this bird on a rotisserie spit for hours on end, slowly cooking through and permeating through a heavenly blend of herbs and spices. This chicken is juicy. This chicken is tender. This chicken is simply perfect in every way. By far...this is my favorite dish from AoP! For the next dish, it had been 5 years since I've eaten ceviche and AoP is known to have the real goods....true, authentic, Peruvian ceviche. The "Kitchen Sink" ceviche included shrimp, fish and various morsels of calamari. The seafood was ridiculously fresh, flavorful and wasn't overpowered by the citrus. The dish also included a sweet potato cake, fried corn, white corn and fried yucca. As good as this dish was, the fresh cilantro was so powerful, it overpowered many bites of the ceviche. 1/2 of the amount of cilantro used, I believe, would have been more than sufficient. The fried corn reminded me of homemade Corn Nuts....love those things. The white corn was cooked well and plump but needed some seasoning. Prior to adding some salt, the white corn tasted as if it was just shucked off the cob from a farm in Nebraska and was just bland. Once some salt went on...the flavor was enhanced and I was able to enjoy it more. My wife had the Miraflores Burger for the first time, allowed me to try a bite and then....whoa! This burger was flippin' phenomenal!! The house-made, yellow sauce, arugula and smoked Provolone cheese added to this American classic, making it even better! Truly, I would have never given any thought to order a burger from an authentic, Peruvian restaurant...but I will next time. It was solid! This was the second best dish I had this evening. SCORE: 4.1 STARS!! SERVICE: I placed my order over the phone for pickup on my way home, encountered very friendly service and my food was ready shortly after I arrived. Although I did not dine in, I observed the interior and surroundings for COVID-safety measures and everything was in place. Sanitation stations...check. Masks worn properly...check. Social Distance seating was in place and there were no customers dining inside at the time. Very clean and sanitary. SCORE: 5 STARS!! OVERALL SCORE: When you want authentic cuisine from a true Peruvian restaurant...this is the place to go. I stopped in craving ceviche...I finished, enjoying the chicken and burger more. Lol. What do you do? Reason for this score is due to more weight given to the meals rather than service. If the cilantro wouldn't have been so powerful and the corn would have had some seasoning, this would have been another 5-star review. But still....very, very good! 4.3 STARS!! read more

First visit! I knew I was in the right place when the major language spoken was Spanish. Being from South Florida I really missed good Peruvian food. I was pointed here by a friend. Peruvian food is one of my favorite cuisines as it beautifully melds the flavors of Latin America with Asian (in particular Japanese) food. Having a huge Japanese diaspora there makes this happen. Started with the ceviche, this version was a mix seafood ( shrimp, squid, octopus and fish) with a nice helping of onions, choclo corn and the obligatory sweet potato. Delicious, the marination was near perfect. The firmness of the squid and octopus with the nice bite of the citrus juices and aji! We'll call it bliss. We ordered 2 main courses (again traditional Peruvian fare) lomo saltado which is a stir fry of beef strips, onions tomatoes served with potatoes AND rice. Carb overload and not for the keto crowd. Again bliss you again can taste the subtle hints of Asian influence in the dish. The second entree chaufa de mariscos (Seafood Fried Rice) another Peruvian staple. A fusion of mixed seafoods (squid, clams, octopus and shrimp) stir fried ( you detecting a theme here?) with rice and soy sauce. Outstanding! Note this is way too much for 2 people but I was dying to try it. For those who like to spice it up a bit ask for the rocoto pepper sauce. Otherwise try the cilantro (coriander) sauce. The only downside is that they do not serve beer or wine. It would have been perfection washing this down with a bottle of Cusqueña beer! I'll be back. read more

Let me just say the chicken on this appetizer is amazing. And everything tasted so fresh. Maybe the best chicken salad ever. She had the lunch steak fried rice with the soup. She raved about how delicious it was. I had the dark meat chicken with sweet potato fries and a salad. I did take the skin off the chicken because it tasted a little rubbery however the however the chicken was perfect and so tender. The sweet potato fries were crunchy on the outside and smooth on the inside. This place is fantastic. We've been on vacation in Myrtle beach and Wilmington and this was our favorite place by far. The mixed grill is an absolutely amazing dish and everything was cooked perfectly. It was plenty of food for a family of three. The plantains were so delicious. After reading the reviews and viewing the menu, we decided to go. We all ordered the 1/4 chicken with two sides given how much everyone raved about this dish. Everything was delicious and the service was GREAT! Even my 7 year old son loved it. The plantains were cooked perfectly and the black beans were yummy. I have heard a lot of positive things about this restaurant and finally happened to see it one day while driving on college rd (it's tucked away on the side of University Commons - near where Bdodo is) so I decided it was time to give it a go. The restaurant isn't anything fancy, but it is bigger than I thought it would be inside. There's nice little touches of Peruvian related decor throughout the restaurant. The rotisserie chicken seems to be the popular choice here, but I knew I wanted to try the Arroz con Mariscos, which is a Peruvian take on paella, I believe. But the rice had an incredible flavor and there was good amount of seafood throughout the dish. And! It came with fried yucca fries/sticks (I love yucca!), which were done well, in my opinion. Crispy, but still tender in the middle. My BF did get the 1/4 dark meat chicken plate though; He said it was just okay; nothing he'd really rave about.
